rizalhakim January 17th, 2008, 06:12 AM Tarikan baru beli-belah
Parkson Corporation Sdn Bhd iaitu penyewa utama The Spring menawarkan 300 jenama termasuk produk terkemuka antarabangsa, misalnya
Prada, MPH, HSL, Factory Outlet, Padini, Bonia, Bata, Hush Puppies,
"Saya juga gembira The Spring menyediakan banyak peluang perniagaan
dan pekerjaan kepada penduduk negeri ini," katanya.
Sementara itu, Ketua Pegawai Operasi Parkson The Spring, Toh Peng Koon, berkata Parkson The Spring adalah cawagan Parkson kedua di Kuching, keempat di Sarawak, keenam di Malaysia Timur dan ke-31 di seluruh Malaysia.
"Kami berhasrat mengubah industri peruncitan di Sarawak, di samping
membangunkan Parkson The Spring sebagai destinasi membeli-belah nombor
satu rakyat Malaysia dan pelancong.
"Sehubungan itu, kami yakin akan meraih perolehan sehingga RM60 juta pada tahun pertama operasi kami di sini nanti,” katanya.
Sementara itu, seorang suri rumah, Limu Budin, 53, berkata The Spring
FAKTA NOMBOR: The Spring
4.8 hektar - Keluasan tapak
9.4 - Meter persegi
155 - Premis perniagaan
RM150 juta - Kos pembinaan
1,200 - Tempat letak kereta
1,400 - Tempat duduk di panggung wayang.

nazrey February 2nd, 2008, 04:51 AM MPH opens bookstore at The Spring in Kuching
Saturday February 2, 2008
TheStar
KUCHING: MPH Bookstores has opened a new outlet here, its first in East Malaysia and 28th overall in the country.
Located at The Spring shopping mall, the outlet occupies over 7,000 square feet and offers a wide selection of books ranging from fiction to professional and children’s titles as well as complementary products including stationery, gifts and greeting cards.
Facilities available include a self-search terminal, customer service counter and reading area with seats.
MPH deputy chief operating officer Donald Kee said the decision to open the outlet here was due to overwhelming requests from East Malaysian customers who travel to MPH stores in Peninsular Malaysia to buy books.
“Over the past five years, we’ve been receiving e-mails from a lot of East Malaysian customers asking when we’re going to open here.
“We’re confident we can do well here and once we’ve established ourselves, we may open more outlets,” he told reporters during a soft opening of the store recently.
Kee added that MPH was not just a bookstore but also aimed to promote local writing.
“We want to promote the local book industry, so we display books by Malaysian authors prominently at the front of the store,” he said.
MPH The Spring is open daily from 10am to 10pm.

nazrey March 28th, 2009, 03:40 PM MBO Cinemas opens first cineplex in East Malaysia
Saturday March 28, 2009
KUCHING: MBO Cinemas will open a new eight-screen cineplex here in June, its first in East Malaysia and sixth overall.
The cineplex, located on the top floor of The Spring shopping mall, will have a total seating capacity of 1,584 with the largest hall accommodating 426 patrons.
Chief operating officer Ikmal Nizam Ariffin (pic) said the company planned to spend about RM8mil to open the cineplex.
”We will be spending about RM800,000 to RM1mil per hall,” he told reporters after the launch of MBO Cinemas’ partnership with The Spring late last week.
He said MBO was moving into the Sarawak market as the time was right for a new cineplex to make its entry.
”The market is big in Kuching and we hope to capture at least 60% of it,” he said.
He added that besides Kuching, MBO will also be setting up new outlets in Johor Baru and Klang this year.
The Johor Baru cinema is expected to open in June while the Klang outlet will probably be ready in the third quarter of this year.
MBO currently has cineplexes in Ampang, Kluang, Malacca, Seremban and Batu Pahat.
Ikmal Nizam said the Kuching cineplex, with eight halls, will be the company’s second largest after the 10-hall cineplex in Ampang.
He said special features in the Kuching cineplex will include a 3D projector and “couple seats” for pairs.
”The 3D projector will be MBO’s first and it will be placed in the largest hall. We will also have one hall designated for couple seats which can accommodate about 50 pairs,” he said.
Meanwhile, The Spring’s head of leasing Andy Song said the mall will launch its final phase of retail space on its second floor in June.
”This will mainly be an entertainment floor targeted at the younger market, those aged between 15 and 35,” he said.
He said the floor would be anchored by MBO Cinemas as well as a karaoke outlet. In addition, there will be 13 retail concessionaires, three food and beverage outlets and three kiosks.

The Spring Shopping Mall Lunar New Year performances
The retail market in the little city of Kuching is growing and has set its sights to attract more international retailers' eyeballs, according to an industry insider.
"International brands like Esprit, Mango, Quiksilver, Roxy, L'Occitane and Starbucks, which made their first forays into this young untapped market in Kuching in 2008, are now reaping the rewards for early entry to this lucrative market," Andy Song, head of Leasing, The Spring, PE Land told Retail in Asia.
These brands are just some of the tenants at The Spring shopping mall, the largest shopping mall in city of Kuching, Sarawak, East Malaysia.
Owned by PE Land, The Spring is the largest shopping mall in Kuching and has more than 150 retail outlets, a supermarket, Food Bazaar, alfresco restaurants and cafes, and an eight-screen Cineplex. In the first quarter of 2011, it recorded retail sales growth of 6.2 percent and on target to achieve 8.29 percent projected growth for the year. Cash registers rang in MYR69.392 million (USD22.67m) in retail spending, which surpassed estimates from Malaysia Retail Association's projection of 6.1 percent and Malaysian GDP growth of 4.6 percent.
"We've had stellar years of retail growth – a growth of over 20 percent for 2010 has marked the third consecutive year (2008 - 2010) of such high performance. And with the mall's retail receipts ringing in at over MYR650m (USD212.31m) in sales in the three years, Kuching has started to interest more international retailers," Song said.
"And the retailers that are here are here to stay, with our tenancy at 95.3 percent over the last two years," he added. "Although our market is young, it’s doing very well."
With a population of about 658,000, it seems that the purchasing power of the city in the East Malaysian state of Sarawak is growing. According to Song, statistics show that this growing affluent young city are generating an above-average household income of over MYR80,000-100,000 (USD26,131-32,664) annually, and the state government's average 8 percent RGDP growth projected annually at MYR55 billion (USD 17.97b).
"For The Spring, average spending per square foot in the first quarter of 2011 was on average MYR63.98 (USD20.9), up 7.6 percent year on year," Song said.

KUCHING: Malaysian fashion brand Padini Holdings Bhd (Padini) is looking to expand its outlets over the next three to five years, with a focus on Sabah and Sarawak, dependent on finding a suitable operator with all the right capabilities.
In an interview with The Borneo Post recently, Padini’s executive director, Chan Kwai Heng revealed that the company would expand its brands’ outlets here while promoting efforts to keep all its other brands relevant to the changing trends and other demographic behaviour.
“We are very keen to further expand the brands outlets’ business in both Sabah and Sarawak because we are very positive that the public will find the value concept promoted by our concept very appealing,” he told The Borneo Post.
Speaking on the existing three stores in Sabah and Sarawak, Chan said the multi-brand Padini Concept Store at tHe Spring Shopping Mall had seen an increase in revenues generated by more than 33 per cent over the financial years 2009-2011.
“For the store at Warisan Square in Kota Kinabalu, sales have been declining over the last three financial years. However, our other store in 1Borneo has performed positively.
“Overall, the stores are doing as well as expected and although the overall contribution to total revenues and profits are relatively small, our stores in Sarawak and Sabah provide us with an immense opportunity to engage our with our customers and fans in those two markets.
