Hi, it was reported in today's Guardian newspaper of new stadium plans for Nottingham Forest. Initially the stadium shall be of 40,000 capacity but shall raise to 50,000 if Forrest return and stay in the Premiership. And if stadium is selected for Englands potential 2018 World cup. If any one has any images of this new plan please post them. Here is the article:

Nottingham Forest will today begin the process of trying to re-establish themselves as a leading club by announcing plans to move into an "east Midlands super stadium" on the outskirts of the city. The Guardian has seen plans for the new site, which has been designed with the 2018 World Cup in mind and will usher in a new era for the fallen two-time European Cup winners.
Initially, the stadium will have a capacity of around 40,000 but there will be scope to increase to 50,000 if Forest can make the long climb from League One to the Premiership. That would make it the largest stadium in the east Midlands and, if the Football Association is successful in bringing the 2018 tournament to England, among the leading grounds to be selected for games alongside Villa Park, Old Trafford, St James' Park, the City of Manchester Stadium and Liverpool's new ground.

The City Ground, which has stood on the banks of the River Trent since 1898 and was the scene of many of Brian Clough's former glories, is expected to be sold in a move that will dismay traditionalists and those who remember when it was home to the champions of Europe.
The Guardian has learned that Forest, who have averaged crowds around the 20,000 mark despite their slide into the third tier of English football, have agreed a deal in principle where the majority of the costs for the new stadium will be funded from outside the club.

Developers have offered Forest use of a vast site in the Clifton region of Nottingham, close to the M1 and have offered to foot most of the bill because they are aware of the huge potential for the area and the financial rewards from other businesses setting up around the ground. Nigel Doughty, Forest's multimillionaire owner, is expected to fund the rest of the project and the club are understood to be seeking financial help from the local authorities. However, the project may have to wait until the A453, which supporters will use to get to and from the M1, is turned into a dual carriageway.

The club have been desperate to keep the plans confidential but are aware that details have leaked and will hold a press conference at the City Ground this morning.

Intriguingly, Derby County, Forest's main rivals, have just announced plans to redevelop Pride Park and increase the capacity from 33,500 to 44,000. The suspicion at Forest is that Derby have got wind of their plans and are keen for their own stadium to be regarded as the most impressive football arena in the east Midlands. Forest, however, are confident their famous past will stand in their favour.

Lol...just because Derby are on the up,probably on the way down next year..:), Forest have to try and steal some of the limelight....

This is just as bad as the way Paris is announcing aload of new towers in la'defence just because they are jealous of all the new towers going up in London.

maybe its just a pre-rendering
why should they make a very detailed rendering? IMO the project isn't in the detailed phase. Even the capacity isn't clear.

BTW i can show you "better" renderings :D

I hope Forest don't move from the City Ground. No doubt this new stadium will be stuck on some horrible industrial estate, out in the middle of nowhere. The City Ground is in such a nice location:

As a club, they'd be much better off renovating the old stand and staying put. I suspect the owners want to sell the land to the council and make some money for themselves, leaving Forest stuck with a stadium that's hard to get to and will be half full every week after the World Cup.

I've been at the City Ground for a pre season friendly in 1998 (I support Feyenoord, 2-3 win for us that day) and realy liked the location of the stadium. Almost in the river Trent.

Would be great to see the old stand renovated so the the City Ground would look in the same style as the new renovations around the country, but I believe that this won't happen.

a) The owners want a modern stadium with better facilities
b) There isn't enough room to build a larger stand.

A more realistic artist impression of Nottingham Forest's proposed new home has been submitted with England's 2018 World Cup bid. It would be built on the north side of the A52 next to the National Watersports Centre and hold 41500.

The chances of this actually being built now look slimmer than ever following a newpaper scandal over the weekend revealed that the English F.A's chairman had claimed that Spain & Russia were corrupt.

However, when you look at all of the proposed English 'new builds' for this tournament, there really isn't anything that inspiring about them. In fact, Forest's is probably the best of a bad bunch.

I suspect the corrupt Russians will get it, and they'll built better stadiums with their corrupt oil money than England can afford, so it's probably for the best!

I don't think they will build it just for the WC. So it doesn't depends on England getting the WC, I am sure it has to with the demand.

Can't really say that I like it, though it's too early to judge - largely because this is clearly only a hurriedly drawn render.

What I definitely don't like, however, is the out of town location. The current City ground has one of the best locations of any in England. It's prettily situated on the river and very close to what is a thriving city centre. It would be a shame to lose that - even if moving to the sticks is the only way that Forest could fund a new stadium.

Tbh, like Jimb said, there's no way you can really judge or compare this stadium. This is the only render i've ever seen in the two or so years the proposition has been around. We have no spec information, no interior images, or anything which extend our comprehension beyond this image (or if there is then please show me)..

So, although i'd agree the new builds are not particularly inspiring, i'd argue that's partly because we've already delivered the iconic new builds that hosting countries are expected to produce. Wembley, the Emirates and COMS. And thats before the New Anfield hit the skids. The new builds for our bid happen to be the smaller, less identifyable venues which help carry the group stages.

What a great post. I'd never thought about it that way before. We seem to be going about this completely back to front compared with most World Cup hosts, but in a good way. :)
