DOHA • Nearly a dozen construction workers had a providential escape yesterday, after an under-construction building at East Hilal, off D-Ring Road, crashed in.
When the incident occurred, nearly ten labourers were directly involved in the work at the project site.
The mishap occurred around 9am while the workers were busy pouring in concrete mixture into the steel frames. The estimated 40feet x 30feet structure suddenly collapsed.
Fortunately, none of the workers were hurt, said eyewitness.
Officials of the construction company were not available for a comment. However, a section of labourers at the work site told The Peninsula that the steel platform caved in for want of a proper support base.
In last November, two construction laboures were buried alive after the supporting poles gave away while the workers were involved in the concreting works. It took almost 14 hours for the sixty-member rescue team to retrieve the bodies from the debris.
In yet another incident in the same month, eight workers were injured when another under-construction building collapsed due to poor structural support.
