PROJEK PEMBESARAN LAPANGAN TERBANG SULTAN MAHMUD
From Terengganu (http://www.terengganu.gov.my/impian/)

this is what we call Malay heritage. Instead of building western design, why dont we include heritage identity in design?

again, is there any demand for extra gates and new terminal in KT?

Sebijik macam Muzium Losong

this is the most boring piece of architecture i have ever seen
too tied up with romanticism.
Beautiful yet boring.
it is regressive as for this building deserve a kind of architecture that shows the modernity of Terengganu.
airport are meant as a transit between distant spaces in short particular time
transitory spaces that has emerge and change vastly on the means of social living standarts in the world.
thus why go back to romanticism when romanticism can be translated in a new metaphor of malaysian architecture
terengganu need not be 10-100 years ago,but to become a new terengganu.
this is an airport that hv the power to influence the growth of social political economical growth of terengganu.
it should be an icon that can be easily recognized and not to be confused with other icons.
it deserves to have an identity of its own within our time context.
i don't mind if they want to use the traditional roof design as inspiration.
show some courage to bring Terengganu Malay Architecture to the next step of evolution, not just by fusing it with the pragmatic modern layout plan that is standard for airports around the world.

Idris Jusoh Wants More Flights To Terengganu
September 20, 2007 18:08 PM

KUALA TERENGGANU, Sept 20 (Bernama) -- Terengganu Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Idris Jusoh wants airlines flying to the Sultan Mahmud Airport here to increase their flight frequency as more tourists are flocking to the state.

He said the airport handled 46,616 passengers in August compared to 26,096 in February.

"The relevant parties should take note of the extra 20,000 tourist arrivals and take steps to meet the increasing demand for plane travel," he told reporters today.

He said the upward trend in tourist traffic augured well for the Visit Terengganu 2008 campaign.

The Transport Ministry, he said, should immediately approve a request from the state government to further lengthen the airport's runway.

Kuala Terengganu airport to get international status
Wednesday October 3, 2007
MYT 9:29:10 PM By R.S.N. MURALI
TheStar

KUALA TERENGGANU: The Sultan Mahmud Airport here will be awarded international status allowing Jumbo Jets to land and depart, to balance the ambitious East Coast Economic Region (ECER) project for the state.

Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Idris Jusoh said the airport would be the first with such a status in the east coast region. “The airport will complement ECER as Terengganu is earmarked as a tourism gateway and educational hub under the blueprint,” he said after chairing the weekly state Exco meeting here, Wednesday.

Idris said the airport's new complex is expected to be operational soon while currently the airport’s runway extension project, covering a length of 2,800m, is underway and the state government submitted another proposal to extend the runway an additional 600m.

He said apart from the airport, Kuala Terengganu will be turned into a hub to ferry tourists to resort islands.

Currently tourists have to board ferries at Merchang, Kuala Besut and Marang jetties to get to these islands and only the only boat to Redang is from the Kuala Terengganu Dataran Shahbandar jetty.

Idris said more jetties would be constructed if the need arose and the waterway will be deepened to allow passenger boats to berth close to the current jetty.

Terengganu to have international aviation hub
Monday October 29, 2007 MYT 6:43:08 PM
By R.S.N MURALI
TheStar

KUALA TERENGGANU: The Sultan Mahmud Airport here will be elevated to an international aviation hub to complement the vigorous development programme under East Coast Economic Region (ECER).

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, who announced the elevation of the airport status, said this would enable Terengganu to become the gateway to the ECER as well as a major tourism and education hub.

"Although the Sultan Mahmud airport will be the gateway for the ECER, the airports in Kota Baru and Kuantan will be also upgraded to improve," he said at the launching of the ECER at Batu Burok here, on Monday.

Abdullah said the Sultan Mahmud airport was undergoing renovation at a cost of RM123mil and would also see an extension to its runway to enable bigger aircrafts to land.

Abdullah also unveiled several ECER goodies for Terengganu including the Kuala Terengganu City Centre (KTCC) to transform this sleepy hallow into a high impact urban development to signify the town's multi modal role as tourism and investment gateway.

The Prime Minister also announced that Kuala Terengganu would be turned into an ICT nerve centre for ECER with the establishment of the International Business Exchange in Bukit Rakit and the setting up of a global animation hub to create high-end programmes for Hollywood, Korean, Japanese and local production houses.

Terengganu will also become the region's educational hub with the establishment of the 283ha Taman Ilmu (Knowledge Park) that will house six universities and several industrial training centres.

before KT airport can handle scheduled international flight, first they must ask Petronas to supply Jet A1 fuel to KT airport. FYI, KT has no Jet A1 fuel meaning jets flying into KT, must have enough fuel for return trip to their destination or closest airport that has Jet A1. That's why, for most of the time, if flights from KUL encountered bad weather and cannot land in stipulated time, they have to go back to KUL to refill, because fuel is not enough for return trip if they decided to land in KT in bad weather (a/c has to go around, or take another route to avert diversion)

I dont know if Jet A1 fuel facilities is packaged together in the airport upgrade, but as of now, you have to return to base. (PEN, KUL)

Terengganu MB Says River Works, Airport Upgrade Bring Less Benefits
April 27, 2008 21:16 PM

KEMAMAN, April 27 (Bernama) -- Terengganu Menteri Besar Datuk Ahmad Said said Sunday that the works to deepen Sungai Terengganu estuary and strengthen its banks as well as to upgrade the Sultan Mahmud Airport bring less benefits to the people.

However, when asked whether the state government would review the projects, he said: "No action will be taken and both projects are running as usual.

"This is because the tenders have been awarded and the state government is not involved in managing the projects," he said after meeting federal and state government department heads at the National Public Administration Institute here.

He said the works on Sungai Terengganu estuary costing over half a billion ringgit to allow luxury vessels to pass through and berth did not achieve its objective.

"Up to now we see the passage is not busy. In fact, it is difficult to see a vessel a day. If the passage is busy, it is okay," he said.

On the airport upgrading project, Ahmad said the cost when it was first approved was RM250 million and it was to lengthen the runway one kilometre offshore.

"However, the State Economic Planning Unit in a recent briefing recently said the cost had doubled when it exceeded RM500 million," he said.

He said that after looking at the two projects, the state government would now value all mega projects already planned before their implementation to ensure they bring benefits to the people.

"We do not reject mega projects from being implemented in the state but they must bring benefits to the Terengganu people as a whole," he said.

an airport is not suppose to be like what we can see now as long as it can handle the flight and everything that an airport should be served. the design of the building should not be looked like western designs. Sultan Mahmud Airport in Kuala Terengganu has its own identity. You have to change your paradigm if you are a Malaysian. If you are not,you must accept it as the Malaysian identity.:banana:

Langkawi is only a small island compared to Terengganu. Terengganu has more tourist spots and of course more population compared to Langkawi itself.
In future,Terengganu will have more tourist attractions and business affair as well.

Kuala Terengganu as hub to Far East proposed

KUALA TERENGGANU: Terengganu wants the Sultan Mahmud Airport here to be a hub for destinations to China and Vietnam.

“The airport is located close to Kunming in China, Saigon and Hong Kong, so airlines operating these routes could establish their regional offices here,” Mentri Besar Datuk Ahmad Said said after chairing the weekly state exco meeting here yesterday.

Ahmad said the new airport terminal and extended runway could accommodate Boeing 747s from September.

“We will also see flights carrying 8,000 pilgrims from east coast states from the airport here directly to Mecca,

“Twenty Boeing 747s owned by Malaysia Airlines will use the airport to ferry pilgrims to the Holy Land,” he said.

Ahmad said 15 cargo planes, all B747s, will be used to transport horses for the World Equestrian Endurance Championship at Lembah Bidong, Setiu, this November.

“Therefore, the airport could be elevated to a regional hub so that passengers could fly direct to China and Hong Kong,” he said.

Ahmad said the state government would also build an aircraft refuelling facility at the airport for planes to transit.

He also said that Tabung Haji had agreed to build a complex for pilgrims on a 2.8ha site near the airport.

Penerbangan terus
Oleh Mohd Fauzi Abdullah
fauzie@hmetro.com.my

MAS offers direct flights for haj from Sultan Mahmud Airport

KUALA TERENGGANU: The maiden landing of a Boeing 747-400 created history for Terengganu as the Malaysian Airlines (MAS) aircraft was the first jumbo jet to use the newly upgraded runway.

With the safe landing of the aircraft piloted by Terengganu-born Captain Datuk Mohd Nawawi Awang at 3.45pm on Saturday, the Sultan Mahmud Airport may be on its way to having its status elevated to an international airport in the east coast region.

Mentri Besar Datuk Ahmad Said was at the airport to witness the occasion.

He said that MAS would be making nine direct flights for haj ferrying 3,000 pilgrims from the airport to Mecca via Jeddah between November 13 and the end of December.

The flight ferrying 224 passengers, including orphans, flew at a low altitude at the city’s airspace for about 15 minutes to allow those onboard to have a view of interesting landmarks like the Islamic Civilisation Park, from above.

“Flights to Jeddah will be increased to 20 next year, ferrying some 8,000 pilgrims,” he said.

Ahmad said the state government was also willing to absorb the cost incurred by MAS for embarking on the direct flights from here.

He said additional cost of operating the flights included, among others, fuel, ground service equipment, mobilisation and logistic.

“The state government is willing to bear the cost of about RM4.7mil for the direct flights and the management of ten Jumbo jets during the World Endurance Championship 2008,” he said.

Earlier, Ahmad witnessed the signing ceremony between MAS and the state government on the handling of the haj direct flights for this year.

MAS was represented by its Deputy General Manager of Haj operations and chartered flights Kapten Nik Ahmad Huzlan Nik Hussein and Senior General Manager for external affair Datuk Kapten Mohd Nawawi Awang while State Secretary Datuk Mokhtar Nong and his deputy Datuk Adzlan Mohd Dagang, signed on behalf of the state government.

Direct haj flights from Sultan Mahmud Airport

KUALA TERENGGANU: Starting next year, haj pilgrims from states in the east coast will be flown to Jeddah in direct flights from the Sultan Mahmud Airport (LTSM), here, instead of the Kuala Lumpur International Airport.

Menteri Besar Datuk Ahmad Said said the state would put in place all the necessary facilities, including a request for Petronas to set up aircraft fuelling facilities at the airport.

“For this year’s haj pilgrimage season, only those from Tereng-ganu and some from Kelantan will use the LTSM to travel to Jeddah,” he told reporters here.

Ahmad said 2,398 pilgrims from Terengganu would perform the haj this year.

Nine direct flights to Jeddah would be provided at the LTSM, with the first flight leaving on Nov 13, while the last is scheduled on Nov 25, he added.

All haj pilgrims would assemble at the Indoor Stadium, he said, adding that the state would provide 20 buses to bring them to the LTSM.

He said for the convenience of haj pilgrims, Tabung Haji would build a three-star hotel next to the Indoor Stadium next year. €” Bernama.

Several Airlines Keen To Operate Direct Flights To Kuala Terengganu - MB
November 05, 2008 18:59 PM

KUALA TERENGGANU, Nov 5 (Bernama) -- Several airlines have shown interest in operating direct flight to Kuala Terengganu, said Menteri Besar Datuk Ahmad Said.

"We plan to make Sultan Mahmud Airport, Kuala Terengganu as the main gateway for foreign tourists to the east coast," he told reporters after chairing the State Executive Council meeting here Wednesday.

Ahmad said to encourage tourism, the state government would pick up the RM50 airport tax imposed on each passenger on direct flights from abroad as had been done by Sabah and Sarawak.

The strategic location of Kuala Terengganu airport that was situated not far from China, Korea, Japan and Thailand made it attractive to several foreign airlines.

He said the state government had discussed with several airlines including low-cost carrier Air Asia on the possibility of operating direct services to Kuala Terengganu.

The menteri besar also said starting January, budget airline Fire Fly would operate four weekly flights from Kertih to Subang.

The service would benefit people in Kemaman and Dungun, particularly oil rig workers who commute regularly between Kuala Terengganu and Kuala Lumpur.

He said Fire Fly aircraft would not face difficulty during landing as Kertih airport was in better shape than that of Kuala Terengganu airport previously.

LTSM hab haji Pantai Timur

Terdahulu ketika sesi penggulungan, Ahmad berkata kejayaan LTSM mengendalikan penerbangan terus Kuala Terengganu-Jeddah jelas membuktikan Terengganu bersedia menjadi hab penerbangan jemaah haji Pantai Timur.

First International Flight Lands At Terengganu Airport
December 27, 2008 22:45 PM

KUALA TERENGGANU, Dec 27 (Bernama) -- Malaysia Airlines' flight MH8237 from Jeddah with 355 haj pilgrims landed safely at Sultan Mahmud Airport here today.

It was a historic occasion for both the national carrier and the airport as it was the first international passenger flight to land in this East Coast airport that was recently upgraded with facilities and support to handle international flight arrivals and departures.

Malaysia Airlines executive director/chief financial officer Tengku Datuk Azmil Zahruddin said: "On Nov 13 this year, we inaugurated Phase I of the haj operations at this airport with the departures of the first direct flight from Kuala Terengganu to Jeddah.

"We are equally pleased with the successful start of the flight arrivals for the Phase II of our haj operations this season at Sultan Mahmud Airport," he said a statement today.

He said the national carrier was proud to be part of the historic occassion which demonstrates the ability of the upgraded airport to operate international departures and arrivals.

"For the haj flights, we have a team of dedicated Malaysian Airlines' personnel to manage and operate this movement at all airports, including Sultan Mahmud Airport in Kuala Terengganu, as this charter has unique regulatory requirements and is highly time-critical.

"This charter also enhances Malaysia's reputation of having the best haj movement, an arrangement which is highly regarded in the Muslim world," he said.

He said the national carrier was operating seven direct flights from Jeddah to Kuala Terengganu for Phase II of this year's haj season.

"In addition, it will also operate one direct flight MH8277 which will depart Madinah, Saudi Arabia, on Jan 7, 2009 and arrive in Kuala Terengganu on the next day," he said.

Malaysia Airlines introduced its first haj flight from Kuala Lumpur to Jeddah on April 1, 1974 using a leased Boeing 707 aircraft.

By 1981, in response to increased demand, Malaysia Airlines switched to DC-10 aircraft to operate the haj services and in the following year, two Boeing 747 aircraft were leased for this service.

In 2002, Malaysia Airlines collaborated with Tabung Haji by operating 13 scheduled haj charter flights, uplifting more than 4,500 pilgrims for the first time out of Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) since it shifted its home base to KLIA from Subang.

Since then, it has been Tabung Haji's preferred charter airlines for Malaysian pilgrims.

RM10 juta naik taraf tempat letak pesawat

Sepatutnya ditanggung kerajaan pusat," katanya.

I can say MB of Terengganu will waste the state funds to wooing China airline to land at LTSM since there is no basis of private airlines to go there even though lots of incentive being offered!

look at Langkawi and malacca, if based on tourism alone, these are the destination that China airline would like to fly first rather than KT.

perhaps MB of Terengganu should consider chartered airline services to fly to KT rather schedule flights as the same as Langkawi did. Langkawi attracted more chartered flights through out the year, for example LTU from Germany, Russian, Korean, Taiwan and few more that I could not remember.

Otherwise, the trip to China by MB of Terengganu is just another ,cuti-cuti, trip that could not be translated into income for the state!

Tiger Airways to fly to Terengganu soon
Published: 2009/05/19

SINGAPORE'S budget arline, Tiger Airways, has confirmed the start of direct flights from the republic to Kuala Terengganu soon.

Terengganu Menteri Besar Datuk Ahmad Said said Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB) was informed of this matter by the airline recently.

He said Tiger Airways is in discussions with the Department of Civil Aviation (DCA) and MAHB on the frequency of the flights to the Sultan Mahmud Airport (LTSM) in Hulu Terengganu.

"An MAHB officer informed the state government that Tiger Airways will start operations to Kuala Terengganu," he told reporters yesterday.

Ahmad said the state government is ready to provide incentives to Tiger Airways if it flew direct to the LTSM, including paying its bills and taxes, for the first three years of operations here.

"This means the airport taxes, landing, parking and aerobridge charges at the LTSM would be paid by the state government to MAHB," he said.

Ahmad stated that the incentive will also be granted to any other international airline which makes direct flights to the LTSM.

He highlighted that Tiger Airways is the second airline to make direct flights to Kuala Terengganu from Singapore, after another budget airline, Firefly.

Malaysia's Firefly will operate three-weekly flights to the LTSM from next month.

"The state government is also having discussions with China Airlines for direct flights from Guangzhou, China, to Kuala Terengganu," Ahmad said. - Bernama

Terengganu and Sarawak to get flights from Singapore
Tuesday May 19, 2009
By JACK WONG and R.S.N. MURALI

HULU TERENGGANU: Singapore’s low-cost carrier Tiger Airways is plan*ning to fly direct from the city-state to Kuala Terengganu’s Sultan Mahmud Airport.

The airline is now negotiating the flight frequencies with the Department of Civil Aviation here and Malaysia Airports Berhad.

Mentri Besar Datuk Ahmad Said said the Singapore budget airline recently wrote to Malaysia Airports, stating its commitment to serve the route.

“Malaysia Airports officials informed the state government that Tiger Airways would be coming to Kuala Terengganu,” he said after making a day tour to Kenyir Lake yesterday.

Ahmad said the state government had also agreed to absorb all taxes and fees incurred by Tiger Airways for the first three years of it its opera*tions here.

This means the airline’s airport taxes, landing, parking and aerobridge fees will be paid to Malaysia Airports by the state government.

“We hope the airfare from Singapore to Terengganu and vice-versa will be very affordable to further boost the tourism industry,” he said.

Ahmad said similar incentives would be given to any other international airlines that was interested in making the airport here their regional transportation hub.

Tiger Airways will be the second carrier flying the Singapore-Kuala Terengganu route after Firefly, which is offering three flights in a week starting next month.

Ahmad said his government was also in discussion with China Airlines to operate a direct flight from Guangzhou, China to Kuala Terengganu.

On another matter, Ahmad said the state government had commissioned a consultant to plan a cable-car service at Kenyir lake.

He said the state government had also allocated RM50mil, this year for the purpose of developing Kenyir lake.

Meanwhile, in Kuching, Sarawak, State Tourism and Urban Development Minister Datuk Michael Manyin said the state was in talks with Tiger Airways and Jetstar Asia to launch direct flights between Singapore and Miri.

Michael Manyin said the proposed direct air links would support the state’s efforts to promote tourism attractions, like the Mulu and Niah National Parks and the Kelabit highlands, in the northern region.

“It will allow us to offer our various packages in culture, adventure and nature to entice the Singaporeans, expatriates and tourists in Singapore to the northern region ,” he added during the Sarawak state assembly yesterday.

The Kuala Terengganu Airport looks so 'grand' from the outside, but inside, it's a dissapoinment and a failure planning, I must say. It's so crampy, and the layout is so messed up. There's no connection or flow between the arrival and departure halls except for a pair of escalators in the middle, I hated the layout, and It made me so mad thinking about it. I mean, they spent RM200 million for this? There's no proper planning and I really wish they do renovate it to make it a better airport with better facilities!

Tabung Haji to set up hotel, complex in Terengganu
By Sharen Kaur Published: 2009/09/29

http://www.btimes.com.my/articles/Thaji/pix_topleft

Lembaga Tabung Haji is setting up a hotel and complex for pilgrims near the international airport in Kuala Terengganu, Terengganu to help strengthen its product offering in the east coast.

"With the current market situation, investing in real estate is one of the areas that we are exploring. We are starting to look at providing infrastructure in the east coast," its chief executive officer, Datuk Ismee Ismail, said.

"We believe there is good potential for hotels in Kuala Terengganu looking at the number of direct flights available to Mecca," he said at the launch of Tabung Haji Uniteller Service in Kuala Lumpur yesterday.

Ismee said Tabung Haji is in the midst of finalising the design and building plans. He added that it would be viable to have a 3 or 4-star hotel with more than 250 rooms.

The hotel would cater to pilgrims in Kelantan and Terengganu performing the Haj annually, and to the public outside the Haj season.

It is estimated that it would cost the pilgrims fund between RM80 million and RM100 million to build the hotel and complex.

Tabung Haji is expected to start construction in the first half of next year.

This is the second hotel and complex for pilgrims that Tabung Haji is planning to develop this year.

Tabung Haji also plans to build a hotel, complex and conference centre at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport in Sepang, to facilitate Haj pilgrims.

The ground breaking ceremony is expected to take place soon and construction would start in the fourth quarter.

People familiar with the matter said the KLIA project is worth around RM150 million.

It was reported that there are plans to relocate the Tabung Haji complex in Kelana Jaya to the KLIA, with the Kelana Jaya complex being turned into a Tabung Haji hotel, specifically for Haj courses.

Tabung Haji currently owns hotel and complex for pilgrims in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah and in Penang.

So far the only international link that TGG has is the TGG - Singapore flight operated by Firefly 3 times a week.

I, too wonder kenapa flight from KLIA to Kuala Terengganu only a few, 3 times daily by MAS, and AirAsia 2 times daily. Firefly operate 2-3 times daily from Subang. I'm skeptical kalo org cakap takde load. I mean there are a lot of visitors that come to Terengganu, kalo weekend atau cuti sekolah/public holiday, berlambak2 manusia kat at the so-called city of Kuala Terengganu, sampai jam, parking penuh etc.:ohno:

You're not the only one who wished that. Aku pun teringin nak lihat flights to east malaysia, maybe TGG - BKI and TGG -KCH. I mean, it's so hassle to go there, coz we have to transit in KL first, and it costs us bomb, the flight tickets. Kalo ade direct flights to KCH or BKI or even MYY, i think it would be really convinience. Maybe the frequency, 3 times a week to BKI, KCH. There are lot of petronas staffs that commute between East Malaysia and Kuala Terengganu/Kerteh, and furthermore there are quite a number of Sabahan/sarawakian students here in Kuala Terengganu.

I think Terengganu ought to have its own airline, I mean the state government has a lot of money, instead of wasting money on stupid things like Piala Moonsoon/endurance etc, baik pakai duit tu untuk tarik more visitors/pelancong asing and all that. Start with aircrafts like Embraer E-190/195. They're economical and viable dengan economy terengganu. Or maybe they should joint venture with Indonesia's Lion Air who I heard that still looking for a Malaysian partner to setup its subsidiary here, and they can make TGG as their base, wouldn't it be cool?..hahaha..these are just some rambling thoughts that I don't think would ever HAPPEN in reality!

kekerapan penerbangan bergantung kpd demand drpd consumers..alor star setahu saye xde la kerap mane pun airasia n mas kat sane..

tentu saudara semua masih ingat airasia asalnye terbang k kuantan tp dek demand kurang, airasia dh x flight kat sane...
Sini lagi la xda flight.... That's why I said, nak upgrade tu berpada-pada la. Terminal AOR upgrade pun just ada dua gate je and only capable of serving up to Airbus A330.

As far as i concern, AOR ada twice daily to KUL and Subang for AK and FF and thrice daily to KUL for MH then plus those flights from Kolej Tentera Udara and TUDM.

Sultan Mahmud airport to be upgraded
Monday September 6, 2010
http://thestar.com.my/metro/story.asp?file=/2010/9/6/southneast/6986118&sec=southneast

KUALA TERENGGANU: The Sultan Mahmud Airport (LTSM) here will be upgraded into an international airport soon, said Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Said.

He said the matter had been decided at a meeting of the Housing and Local Government Action Council recently.

“This can further strengthen the tourism sector in Terengganu where the economy in future will no longer depend on oil and gas but the tourism sector,” he told reporters after a meeting with teachers in Kuala Terengganu Utara at the Indoor Stadium, Gong Badak Sports Complex on Saturday.

Ahmad said it was hoped that the airport would become the main entry point to the East Coast when it accepted flights especially from South East Asian countries and South China. LTSM has the third longest runway in this country after the KL International Airport (KLIA) and Subang Airport. — Bernama

I really support the plan to upgrade the airport since the approval obtained from the ministry transport as claimed by MB....but really dissappointed with the movement....for me it is too slow, like MB

Most of the time it is either a copy-and-paste miniature version of KLIA or some glass and concrete thing. :(

bg sy, personally, airport ni mmg sgt cntik.
the idea to upgrade it into international airport its not a bad idea act..
since no international airport at east coast, and location of t'ganu which is in the middle of east coast region, with good facilities, promotion and transportation system, this project can be done. for tourist, its easier to come to east coast by airplane rather than bus (its dangerous lately) and train (very unefficient) rite now.

LTSM henti operasi selama setengah jam

Bagaimanapun operasi dibuka seperti biasa selepas pesawat berkenaan dialihkan.

New umrah hub in Terengganu

KUALA TERENGGANU: Muslims performing the umrah can now take their flights from the Sultan Mahmud International Airport here to Jeddah, the principal gateway to the holy city of Mecca.

This follows a decision by the Terengganu government to make the airport the east coast hub for these trips.

The first flight to Jeddah will leave on March 18.

In a statement here after the weekly state executive council meeting, Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Said said the airport had been used to fly haj pilgrims to Mecca since October 2008.

“The airport is well known for its direct flights to Jeddah for the haj pilgrims. It will now become a hub for umrah trips as well,” he said.

Ahmad said the state government also plans to have direct flights from here to cities in China and Thailand as well as Bandung in Indonesia in the near future, adding that it was discussing these prospects with several airlines.

He said the state government had allocated RM3.8mil for the haj operations for two years, since last year.

He said that besides pilgrims from Terengganu, the flights would also benefit the people of Kelantan and Pahang.

Meanwhile, the state government has decided to subsidise RM1,500 for the umrah flights for 450 government employees “in recognition of their hard work during the haj operations last year.”

Terengganu wants to be AirAsia's east coast hub
2011/04/02
http://www.nst.com.my/nst/articles/TerengganuwantstobeAirAsia_seastcoasthub/Article/

KUALA TERENGGANU: The Terengganu government is in talks with AirAsia to make the state the east coast hub of the low-cost carrier, Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Said said.

The state also wanted to forge collaboration with AirAsia to train people from Terengganu to be pilots and flight engineers, he told reporters after launching the Terengganu World Invitational Jetrace Challenge (TWIJC) 2011 here last night.

Ahmad said the state government had a similar collaboration with Malaysia Airlines (MAS).

On the TWIJC, which is organised jointly by state government and the Terengganu Marina Club, he said it was a catalyst for Terengganu tourism.

It is being held over three days beginning yesterday at the Ri-Yaz Heritage Marina and Spa in Pulau Duyong, the venue of the Monsoon Cup sailing event.

Several big names are taking part in the challenge, being held for the second time, and they include Amy Green of the United States, Paolo M. Collini (Canada), Mehdi Menad (France), Pancho Marjak (Finland), Seth Milkinson (United Kingdom) and Toshi Ohara (Japan).

The challenge, in which 60 participants in 25 teams are involved, offers total prize money of RM114,500 in eight categories. - BERNAMA

The KT airport is indeed unique...BUT the layout planning failed miserably, crampy sempit, not practical, almost no natural lighting and the material used inside looked so CHEAP for a RM200 million airport! :ohno:

Tu la.. sayang sgt. Airport cantik2 dan sampai boleh cater 747 tapi under utilized. Upgrade KB airport lagi bagus. Habis duit kot.

When AOR received its upgrade, it is considered as appropriate with its current traffic and utilization. Design pun tak seberapa.

Untuk makluman dua-dua yang dinyatakan mmg ada.
Baik program Kawan Awan mahupun umrah..
Baru-baru nie blm musim haji, mostly pelanggan Rayhar & syarikat2 umrah
guna pesawat 747 dari Kt terus ke Mekah.
