Kulula, one of South Africa's low cost airlines. This is their new "Camoplane". they're known for their amusing inflight announcments. Here's a sample:

"Here at Kulula we pride ourselves on having the best crew in the industry,
unfortunately due to staffing problems..."

"If there is a landing on water during our flight to Johannesburg this
evening pay attention to this Kulula fans as we pass over approximately 100
swimming pools, a reservoir, a tiny lake and a puddle where I spilt my drink
this morning".

"If there is a landing on water your life vest is fitted with a whistle and
a light for attracting attention and to carry on reading your newspaper".

"Portable electronics with a transmit function may not be used during the
flight as they may interfere with the aircraft's systems and I don't know
about you Kulula fans but I don't want to land in Zimbabwe".

"In the unlikely even of the Sharks winning the curry cup, or a loss in
cabin pressure then an oxygen mask will drop from the panel above you. Place the mask over your nose and mouth and for gods sake breathe baby breathe".

"Smoking is forbidden including in the toilets which are fitted with smoke
detectors and cameras for our inflight entertainment".

"If you are found smoking you are liable for a fine of 3000 Rand, and for
that folks you could have flown SAA".

"When you leave the aircraft please make sure you take all your personal
belongings with you as any valuables left will be divided up among the crew,
although this doesn't apply to children as we are trying to get rid of our
own as it is".

"However the captain and I have discussed it at length and the lady in 17A
you are welcome to stay behind".

"Please keep your seatbelt fastened until we come to a stop at the gate and
if you are sitting on the right hand side of the aircraft then it might also
be a good idea to hide your valuables".

"We've sure enjoyed taking you for a ride today and remember Kulula fans,
nobody wants your money more than kulula.com".

"Ladies and Gentlemen, since we won't fly over any ocean, we don't have many life jackets on board. If we still have to ditch and you can't swim - well, thanks for flying kulula!"

Interesting colored aircraft. Never seen a commercial airline painted like that before.

"If you are found smoking you are liable for a fine of 3000 Rand, and for
that folks you could have flown SAA".

Way to take a stab at the competition with humor.

Air Gabon

Air Gabon, a regional player initially, took on its current name in 1977 after Gabon backed out of the Air Afrique consortium. The airline flew primarily within Gabon and Africa and to Europe (Marseille, Paris, Rome and London) and to the Middle East (Dubai and Beirut) with a variety of aircraft over the years ranging from Fokker 28, Fokker 100, Boeing 737-200īs and 300īs, Boeing 767-200īs, 300īs and Boeing 747-200īs throughout the 1980īs and 90īs. The government shut down Air Gabon in 2006 in order to replace it with a new privately held airline which is called Gabon Airlines. It started operation in April 2007. In 2002 Air Gabon has announced that it will be renewing its entire fleet with
Boeing Co Next-Generation several 737-800īs, 700īs and 600īs, one 747-400 Combi and two 767-300ER and one Airbus A330-300 aircraft. Letīs wait and see what the new Gabon Airlines brings which is a private and no longer a state controlled airlines.

I'm a heavy enthusiast.

It's a Boeing 727-200F (F=Freighter).

Also TACV doesn't have that Boeing 737-300 anymore, it was sold to Air China some time ago.

When I have more time, I'm going to flood this thread

Yeah, its a trijet-they aren't the most common aircraft, since most airliners have 2 or 4 engines, but not 3. I am fond of the trijets, though:)

No. They A319 is based in China and is used to fly oil executives around. They have ordered 3 737-700s to replace the aging 727s.

I am losing no sleep over Virgin Nigeria's Purchases, I tend to focus more on Arik Air, because Arik Air achieved what most African Airlines including Virgin Nigeria achieved in Years in Half a Year.

What are you taking about?

Apart from the two mentioned, you got also Aero-Contractor and Nicon Airways, the latter replaces it older jets with new Airbus A320īs soon.

Well, with enough money they can be kept safe, but after a while the maintenance upkeep becomes too high and it is simply more prudent to get newer aircraft.

Not only that, the Airbus A340-300s that he is so fond of aren't much newer anyways.

You probably allude to the A340-200īs series but even they are newer, more envirnomentally- friendly than the MD11...if the A340-300īs series are as old as the MD11, Emirates wouldnīt fly them, for example...the Gulf Airlines or Singapore Airlines donīt fly trash planes, (Swiis subtituted their MD11 with modern A340īs and A330īs) ...they want the lastest technology and the best planes is just good enough for them. I cannot see any MD11 left in their fleet or any leased aircraft. Airlines have to strive for perfection and stop settling for medicrity. :) Quality counts in todayīs world!

The MD-11 came out in 1990.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Airbus_A330

A330 came out in 1992. That is 2 years, Matthias. Two.
The A330-300 came out in 1993. That is three years, Matthias. Just Three.

These planes are both on the same level in terms of modernity. As for their operators, you're right about the Siwss MD11s. Finnair, Varig, Alitalia, and Fedex still operate fleets of MD11s, however. Lufthansa Cargo and UPS do to.
For the life of me, man, i just cannot understand what your beef is with these jets. First the 767, and now the MD11. :ohno:

Which airline flew the A330 in 1992, please?

And how many airlines flew the MD11 in 1990 (or in the early 90īs) already? SwissAir, KLM, American Airlines etc.

If this plane is so "modern" why isnīt Suisse flying it any more (after restructuring the company and why did it start to replace its before Swissair had gone bankrupt?) and why did it replace it with more modern aircraft like the A340īs and A330īs?

The new A330īs and A340īs are more modern and more envirmomentally friendly than the MD11, nobody can deny this?

If there is no difference between the B767 and the A330, why did Gulf Air started to replace their wack B767 with modern A330 or why did Emirates replace their A300-600 and A310 with more modern A330īs and A340īs?

Why did Qatar Airways celebrated it with pomp when they started to operate their LHR-DOH and later FRA-DOH route with modern A330īs instead of A300-600?

B767, MD11 are not the latest technology avaible or as environmentally friendly as the A330īs or A340īs, B777īs swallow it or leave it, period!

wealthy airlines that strive for perfection phase these planes (MD11, A300-600, B767) out...or have already done it

I prefer flying with the B777īs A340īs A330īs than with any B767īs or MD11 which are considered in my eyes "old" planes.

Gulf Air had no in-seat videos on their old B767 but they have them now on A330, look at the inseat-videos that Emirates had on their A310īs and compare them to those on their A330īs or A340īs, not to speak of their B777īs!

Which airline flew the A330 in 1992, please?

1990 and 1992 were their respective maiden flight dates, Matthias, not their entry to service dates. The fact is that both aircraft, in terms of how long they have actually been around, are only 2 years apart in age.

[qote]If this plane is so "modern" why isnīt Suisse flying it any more (after restructuring the company and why did it start to replace its before Swissair had gone bankrupt?) and why did it replace it with more modern aircraft like the A340īs and A330īs?[/quote]

Because it was making a move towards Airbus as a company, that's why. Swiss International Airlines(successor to swissair) still flies A320-200s, a design that is actually a year older than the MD-11. They were clearly making the transistion to an all airbus fleet, hence the switch.

As I have already shown, the A330 is the same as the MD-11 in terms of modernity. They were both designed at the SAME TIME.

The new A330īs and A340īs are more modern and more envirmomentally friendly than the MD11, nobody can deny this?

Your assertion doesn't make any sense, Matthias! We can all deny it because we know the aircraft were designed at the same time and because we know there is no major difference in their modernity.

If there is no difference between the B767 and the A330, why did Gulf Air started to replace their wack B767 with modern A330

Gulf Air still uses 767s. The others were removed as a cost cutting option, not because they were antiquated.

or why did Emirates replace their A300-600 and A310 with more modern A330īs and A340īs?

What does that comparison have to do with this comparison between the 767/MD-11 and the airbuses?

You know that they are still building the 767, right? You also know that the A300 only just recently ceased production in 2007 and that the MD-11 cesed in 2000, right?

I prefer flying with the B777īs A340īs A330īs than with any B767īs or MD11 which are considered in my eyes "old" planes.

You're being ridiculous.

In-seat videos on a gulf air flight were lacking? This is why you consider the 767 and old aircraft? This is the reasoning behind your argument about airliner age?
Frikkin In seat videos?????

Matthias Offodile
January 19th, 2008, 01:53 PM
not another ceaseless debate with you, Datexavier.:bash:

I agree with the switch aspect concerning Suisse you brought forward but why did Air Namibia choose an A340 instead of keeping their MD11 which are still "modern" why did they write in their timeable that they replaced their older MD11 with more modern A340īs? they still fly Boeing 737īs, I cannot see any "switch aspect", here. or do they plan to replace them with A320īs/A319īs/A318īs?

As a whole, I stick to the points that I have said, accept them, if your prefer the old B767 or MD11, then it is your opinion and your choice, I accept it but please accept mine, too! I prefer the more modern A330īs and B777īs which have gradually been replaced by the older B767 and MD11 due to aspects of better technology, quiter engines and more ecolological resaons...if the B767īs or the A300īs were still modern Emirates or Gulf Air wouldnīt have phased them out and Etihad would have bought leased A300 or B767īs or MD11 (in your eyes modern aircraft) instead of buying brand new A330 and A340 and B777s:)

Yes, they would have installed them if they had continued to operate this aircraft for a longer period of time. Gulf Air knew that the B767īs are old , hence they replaced them with modern A330īs and put in an inseat video. Why did Emirates choose an A330īs or an A340īs instead of keeping their old A310 or A300īs ? There is no "switch aspect" here.

I am also perfectly aware that not all airlines installed an inseat video, for example on Air Canadaīs A330-300 series, there is none! It is also a question what the airlines want to pay additionally to provide better service to their passengers.

I don't really know about that claim-Nicon Airways only has 2 aircraft, and they are both older 737-200s like the one I showed you.

The jets they use aren't too old. One was built in 1981 and the other in 1983.

Imageshack is the best option-it's the host I use.

http://imageshack.us/

Just register an account here. After you're registered and logged in, you can upload photos from your hardrive(in whichever folders you've saved them in) to imageshack.

The site will show the directlink(it will be labelled) after its been posted. Paste that link in your post and surround in between these tags.

Essentially, just go to imageshack, click 'browse" find the picture, select it, and then click "host it". Find the direct link(like I said, it'll be labelled under the hosted image), and post it here in image brackets.

That's the best way to do it and make sure it works. It's pretty easy to.
