This is not UC, It's start in 2008, and will be finished in 2011/2012.
The Skyline of The Hague will be very very nice, with this towers.

Does Kollhoff use the same designs everywhere? These towers look almost identical to his Kollhoff Tower at the Potsdamer Platz in Berlin.

And sorry I don't like both his Berlin and the Hague towers. That being said, these towers will add to the density of the skyline and The Hague will indeed have one of the best skylines in Europe in 2010.

Love the Kollhoff towers! Classic buildings. Great project for the Hague. The apartment tower is a bit boring but not bad.

The brick building looks really like Kollhoffs tower in Berlin. But i like them both:

Kollhoff may not be the most modern achitect, but his buildings have grandure
and the shear size of this project is huge. (For Dutch standards at least ;))

Perhaps I exaggerated a little, but if you picture them right next to what's already there, I think it'll look pretty damn good:

No doubt it will look good. Good is even an understatement, it will be IMPRESSIVE! But you cannot compare a city's 'main cluster' or CBD to the Kop van Zuid. Totally different situations.

Last time I checked Prometheus was a figure in Greek mythology. There's a statue of him at Rockefeller as well. Shouldn't they copy that one too? :bash:

I don't care if they have an Atlas statue or any other statue for that matter. I just think it should be an original statue, not a replica of an already existing one.

By the way, you didn't really understand my comment. I said the whole project seems "American" (which wasn't meant as a bad thing) and I was trying to point out the fact that it has Rockefeller Center as an inspiration (which isn't a bad thing either). The Atlas statue is a symbol of Rockefeller Center.

That said, in another render there's a different statue

I agree it has some resemblance to the Rockefeller Center, although with some of the buildings being ministeries, you'd never find the sort of 'cozy-ness' that you get with the ice rink and the large christmas tree at the Rockefeller Center (at least, in the winter).

I didn't imply that "American" was a bad thing either, especially when it comes to skyscrapers. As you said, the statue was probably used just to indicate that a statue will appear. I think The Hague is kind of on a NYC spree, they recently copied the Flatiron, literally calling it "Strijkijzer", Dutch for flatiron.

In May will be the official start of the ministries and the residential tower will also start soon. If all goes to plan, thats usually not the case The Hague. But it will be a impressive sight to see the 3 three towers going up together in the next few years.

This week they will start to drill and drive the piles into The Hague's sandy soil. This work will already stop after about a week. After this planned break they will continue the work then after the 15th of august. The piles will be driven in all autumn long.

There has also been a modification in the design of the towers' tops, from that there are no new pictures, so this is the last state of affairs:

It should be mentioned that the work on the Ministries like Rietveld already mentioned is only for 1 week. They are testing several ways to get the piles into the ground to find out how they can do it without generating to much noise and vibrations when they will start the real work in August.

On de Kroon location the piledrivers will go on until August/September, not much visible change there since the last update.

After two months time it's time for an update

De Kroon

The piles are almost finished, only one piledriver is left on the site

http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b299/momo1435/DH/IMG_9494.jpg

the last ones are a bit different, these are trekpalen, (pull piles) that literally pull the building into the ground.

http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b299/momo1435/DH/IMG_9496.jpg

detail of the pile driver

http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b299/momo1435/DH/IMG_9498.jpg

Hopefully this means that they will be going up soon.

And now they're almost finished with the piles for de Kroon they start the work on the 2 ministries now the summer holiday is over.

1 piledriver is already active, the 2nd just came to the site and must be build up before it can do it's job

http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b299/momo1435/DH/IMG_9489.jpg

the 1st has already been busy

http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b299/momo1435/DH/IMG_9491.jpg

the site

http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b299/momo1435/DH/IMG_9490.jpg

As you could notice on the pictures, they build a wall out of containers to reduce the noise for the people that are living in the apartments behind it. It's a nice gesture, but it doesn't really work. And it could become scary with the autumn storms that will be coming soon.

I don't like the design of these towers, they look like towers from the 40's or something... :P

I think they look more like towers built in the 20's, and this is why I LOVE them!

The 2 Ministries

I count the foundations for 4 tower cranes, it will become quite a spectacle.

Today just a De Kroon update, on the 2 towers ministries there's not much to see then just a more piles into the ground.

The contours of the tower have become visible, around the tower there will be lowrise.

http://i267.photobucket.com/albums/ii301/momo1435-2/IMG_2572.jpg

http://i267.photobucket.com/albums/ii301/momo1435-2/IMG_2575.jpg

These concrete segments are probably the borders of the concrete floor

http://i267.photobucket.com/albums/ii301/momo1435-2/IMG_2580.jpg

The walls around the core have been cut down

http://i267.photobucket.com/albums/ii301/momo1435-2/IMG_2583.jpg

In the core different piles have been used.

http://i267.photobucket.com/albums/ii301/momo1435-2/IMG_2584.jpg

The structure in the corner of the site, presumably a base for a crane(?)

It's clearly visible that the actual tower will get a thicker floor then the lower parts.
