Does Kollhoff use the same designs everywhere? These towers look almost identical to his Kollhoff Tower at the Potsdamer Platz in Berlin.

And sorry I don't like both his Berlin and the Hague towers. That being said, these towers will add to the density of the skyline and The Hague will indeed have one of the best skylines in Europe in 2010.

Love the Kollhoff towers! Classic buildings. Great project for the Hague. The apartment tower is a bit boring but not bad.

Kollhoff may not be the most modern achitect, but his buildings have grandure
and the shear size of this project is huge. (For Dutch standards at least ;))

No doubt it will look good. Good is even an understatement, it will be IMPRESSIVE! But you cannot compare a city's 'main cluster' or CBD to the Kop van Zuid. Totally different situations.

i really like these a lot! one of the top best projects in the netherlands (imo)!

The Hague is building at the most beautiful high rise cluster of the Netherlands in the near future.

Whit the big stretched out skyline of Rotterdam it will be a nice site seeing when i am driving on Motorway A12 from Utrecht to The Hague.:cheers:

I agree it has some resemblance to the Rockefeller Center, although with some of the buildings being ministeries, you'd never find the sort of 'cozy-ness' that you get with the ice rink and the large christmas tree at the Rockefeller Center (at least, in the winter).

I didn't imply that "American" was a bad thing either, especially when it comes to skyscrapers. As you said, the statue was probably used just to indicate that a statue will appear. I think The Hague is kind of on a NYC spree, they recently copied the Flatiron, literally calling it "Strijkijzer", Dutch for flatiron.

This looks like the first activity to make the area ready to build the 3 towers.

In May will be the official start of the ministries and the residential tower will also start soon. If all goes to plan, thats usually not the case The Hague. But it will be a impressive sight to see the 3 three towers going up together in the next few years.

this is going to be very exciting to watch. if it's going to be only half as good as other kollhoff creations it's going to be awesome.

This week they will start to drill and drive the piles into The Hague's sandy soil. This work will already stop after about a week. After this planned break they will continue the work then after the 15th of august. The piles will be driven in all autumn long.

It should be mentioned that the work on the Ministries like Rietveld already mentioned is only for 1 week. They are testing several ways to get the piles into the ground to find out how they can do it without generating to much noise and vibrations when they will start the real work in August.

As you could notice on the pictures, they build a wall out of containers to reduce the noise for the people that are living in the apartments behind it. It's a nice gesture, but it doesn't really work. And it could become scary with the autumn storms that will be coming soon.

Well, it has to be said that this tower is of much better quality than any of his Rotterdam projects.
Plus his retro style fits better in the Hague, which has more older buildings in the city centre than Rotterdam. :)

What's this area called? Really interesting postmodern / neohistoricist architecture.

On th right side of the cluster you will soon see Tower 1 (141,8m) of the Babylon complex. Tower 2 is already visible on the right with blue and white. When al this is finnished The Hague will have a nice kkyline for a city with around 500.000 inhabitants!!!

I really love how this skyline will look, One of the nicest looking skylines in Europe. These kind of buildings looks exactly like my taste of buildings, very New yorkish combined with dutch arhitecture! Hope they continue in that way and make this city a very baeutiful City! :cheers:

Nice pics. I just moved to the Hague and walked around those tram lines today. De Kroon looks very impressive from the ground. And it's a lovely day here

By the by, what's the mixture of uses like? Most of it looks like residential and hotel space.
And some of it will be of governmental use, won't it?

^^ The grey tower (de Kroon) is residential, the other 2 are government offices. :)

Check pictures posted by Jeromeo and you will see the The Hague skyline with in the back the Rotterdam skyline. I think they are taken from the building you are talking about ;)

Retro shapes and materials ( like bricks ) work well on these towers and they blend well with the skyline - one that proves a medium-sized city whith nothing like a supertall can have an impressive and original skyline - so there's nothing wrong whith what you see loking up from street level; the problem is what you see AT streetlevel, looking right in front of you... bland facades whith repetitive patterns and, yes, bricks everywhere...
the "so seeerious" a few posts back realy said the least about it...
Feels like someone in black and white from a gloomy 50's movie is going to turn the next corner!
Anyway, this thread makes you feel like coming and checking by yourself:cheers:

Construction of these towers started before the crisis. If the government had to decide today to start the construction, it would probably not have happened.

What a surprise, having Kollhoff as the architect here as well. :|

I really like this project, but I don't think it's the better Potsdamer Platz. The latter offers far more diversity, urbanity and space for live/liness. Kollhoff should develop this style further, build more such buildings all across the globe. I'd love to see the revival of postmodernism in this very decent and qualitative way that resembles Art Déco. Gorgeous.

Yup it has Kollhoff written all over it :) Not a bad thing since it seems to fit the
surrounding buildings quite well. The Potsdamer tower looks good to, seen it in person
once, nice area there...

What a surprise, having Kollhoff as the architect here as well. :|

impresive skyline. with these towers and the new babylon complex this wil be the best skyline in netherlands. these developments should be a example for other dutch cities. i hope there will be more towers developed in the next years, especialy steel and glass towers like new babylon. everyone loves this international architecture

I wouldn´t say in the world, but better than Rotterdam because Den Haag has more dense skyline ;)

yeah,i wouldn't say the best of the world either,but honestly,one of the most interesting skylines in europe :)

i think the diffrent colors are an important fact that make this skyline nice

If you now what building used to be on this spot before, you'll have to agree with me that this is a HUGE improvement. :cheers:

yes i know ! it was the blak madonna..i did not like it at all !
it was a lower appartmentbuilding 80s style and black as kole !
the ministerietowers are improving the citycenter and it give den haque a nice skyline :cheers:

It would have been nice to save the Zwarte Madonna, a fine example of it's age.
But it started to fit it's environment less and less... Anyway, i find the new situation
to be a improvement too :)

Great skyline! I love the holandese towers style.
