fogel June 26th, 2007, 01:28 PM I don't know, if I like it, I will wait till final render (soon). But still, it will be the highest building in Poland (to the roof)
Max the Swede June 26th, 2007, 02:15 PM Very massive, great addition anyhow.
Novak June 26th, 2007, 02:30 PM In those renders the tower looks OK. Nothing explosively hot, but nice. Hope they are going to use really quality materials there, otherwise the tower can look dull.
MasEl June 26th, 2007, 10:31 PM Very massive and poor design...I hope that final render will be better...
Knatterton June 26th, 2007, 11:13 PM I like the design...looks very stunning. It´s great to see that more and more cities in Europe start to build high!! :)
archy_ June 27th, 2007, 08:25 AM I don't like the design, to commie...but if you look the render it fits well in the Wroclaw's enviroment with all commie blocks around.

The tower's neighbourhood will be successive change. Next to Sky Tower will be build Southern Center (Centrum Południowe)- complex of six towers.

Poltegor building demolition site/ construction site of Sky Tower.
I will allow myself to summarize the opinions of Wroclaw's forumers:
We see the construction of Sky Tower as a breakthrough in our city's highrise development (I think it really opened a tap with new highrise projects), however very few of us are fully satisfied with the design itself. Anyway, the final design has not been presented yet so we count on some adjustments.

archy, I understand that commie = communistic , but I can't see what actaully are "communistic features" of the building that you identified in this design. Please, enlighten me :)
Mazim June 27th, 2007, 03:01 PM but from here i don t like. the architecture is not human, as the other buildings, i guess commieblocks.
I agree, the whole complex looks from this angle like a fortress. It would much better if the base part was not that high and the complex was clearly divided into separate buildings.
Racingfreak June 27th, 2007, 06:45 PM A beautifull tower, but is this in Poland?

when i was there last year i think the building that is being demolished now was the talles around...good that this will change now.
Tom_Green July 1st, 2007, 01:47 PM The tower is not that bad. 220m is a great height.
But one thought. As long as the old skyscraper is under demolition, the 220m tower is not u/c yet. The thread titel is missleading
VO3City July 1st, 2007, 10:26 PM Not exactly… ;)
^^ before second world war it was german city - Breslau.
Wrocław was founded before 1000 by Wratislaw I, who was Czech duke.
From about 990- to 1335, Kingdom of Poland
1335- 1741, Kingdom of Bohemia (next with Kingdom of Bohemia incorporated to Habsburg empire)
1741-1945, Kingdom of Prussia
1945- today, again Polish
Wroclaw is one from the most beautiful and the most quickly developing Polish cities.
Mazim July 2nd, 2007, 11:50 AM The tower is not that bad. 220m is a great height.
But one thought. As long as the old skyscraper is under demolition, the 220m tower is not u/c yet. The thread titel is missleading
Well, actaully the construction works in broad meaning (site preparation, excavations) started already a few months ago on the grounds surrounding Poltegor (the building which is being demolished) so it is fair to say Sky Tower is U/C. Poltegor occupies just, say, one fourth of the area which will be occupied by the Sky Tower complex.
Tall Rog July 2nd, 2007, 03:36 PM At Frankfurt airport they are smart enough to put Wroclaw/Braslau on the departure board which helps bth those who know just Polish name and those who know German name of the city :)
I have to admit, it is a lot better now. I have seen both names on departure gates at Munich as well recently.
Varsben July 2nd, 2007, 04:08 PM So Wroclaw till the end of the war was German city. Literally from 1870, but culturally from the late Middle Ages Wroclaw was German.
So what? What does it have to do with the Sky Tower?
Turboff July 2nd, 2007, 05:15 PM It´s great to see that more and more cities in Europe start to build high!! :)
I think the exact opposite. Cities need to reestablish proper urban planning before they build high just for the sake of it. Judging by the air photo, Wroclaw does not have proper urban planning. As with most old European cities, I bet only the city center is nice.
wisza90 July 2nd, 2007, 05:27 PM for me this building is to big for wroclaw climate. in my opinio skyscrapers should be located onluy in Warsaw . A lot of skyscrpaers.

I have to agree with you there. Wroclaw does not really need a 200+ tower in the middle of it. It is going to look a bit Taipei 101 (although on a slightly different scale :) ). When completed it will be one of the tallest towers in Poland. I think only the Palace of Science and Culture (which is mostly spire) will top it. It also will be the tallest residential in Europe (unless you want to include Russia... but lets not start that debate off).
SkyLerm July 2nd, 2007, 11:08 PM Nice looking and tall tower, congrats :)
Skyman July 3rd, 2007, 05:25 AM It's OK

Well, how can you judge urban planning of the whole city from just one shot of one area? The reality is more complex....
The area where Sky Tower is being built was completely destroyed during the last weeks of WW2, so it became "a playground" for communist times urban planners. Apart from the districts which were completyely ruined by war and then badly planned in communist era, there is much much more of "nice" areas in Wroclaw than just city center.

And city authorities didn't give permit for the implosion.
Tricky July 22nd, 2007, 04:01 PM I don't mind the design - not too bad actually. But also do question whether it's a good fit to a city of Wroclaw's size, history and statue.
erbse July 23rd, 2007, 12:20 AM This building really sucks... Sorry, but I don't understand why they're building such a boxy-commie-fortress-building in the middle of the Pampa (excuse me, Wroclaw). Something that high should be build in Warsaw, not somewhere else. There will never be kinda intact skyline, probably 3 highrises - that's it... This thang is a mistake!
Knatterton July 23rd, 2007, 01:53 PM ^^What the hell are you talking about?? Wroclaw is a big town and has a main function for Lower Silesia. So why they can´t build high towers in such towns? There are so many "smaller" towns with big towers...
Sentient Seas July 24th, 2007, 04:28 AM A very impressive complex.

Fully agree Knatteron, you must keep in mind such skyscreper cities like Frakfurt are not bigger than Wroclaw in terms of population. Therefore, I just can't understand the arguments of erbsenzaehler. This "Pampa" he is referring to was recently sold to the Spanish developer Grupo Prasa Invesments and will be developed by hirises, so it is not going to be a single hirise building in the middle of nowhere.
Mr. Maciek July 24th, 2007, 10:24 AM Just thought this might be of interest to some forumers, i think sky tower would have a strikingly close resemblance to the recently completed Verve 501 & Milano towers in Melbourne. I suppose this is something you could expect after sky tower is complete

erbse July 24th, 2007, 02:13 PM Knatterton and Mazim: I just think this tower doesn't has the architecture, that could venerably represent the city of Wroclaw - it's just boxy and ugly in my opinion. Maybe you might think different about its style, but I still don't like it. And also it doesn't fit Wroclaw very well - it's a quite beautiful town (as I already experienced, because my grandma originates from this region and was drove out at WW2, at the days it was still German), but such (an ugly and for that size way too huge) tower hasn't to do anything in a historical city like that. If it would be way more outside the center, I could live with that - but the form and facade would still bother me for sure.
Come on, let's be honest - do you guys expect a real skyline from Wroclaw in some decades? Maybe someday it's going to have such one, but until that time this tower is standing alone in the 'pampa' of Wroclaw as I can judge by the shown pictures... And after, let's say 2 other bigger towers were built, the demand is satisfied - and the investors are going to focus more 'n more only on Warsaw, because this is the rising and developing capital of Poland, and not Wroclaw. Of course, there can always be numerous of important cities in one country, but it's different in Poland I think - what we see today, is a brief boom in Eastern Europe countries, that'll briskly begin to fade away, after the big metropolis have an offer in excess at office and dwellings, which could happen dramatically fast, if u watch the hi-speed developments of Russia and Poland. Probably this is also going to happen to Dubai - they are building whole cities inside the actual townborders out of the retort. There will be a plentifully excessive offer at everything very soon! The real estate prices are going to show that in the near future, that's something I can easily insure you.
And Mazim, the population doesn't matter for the development of a skyline at all. The economical circumstances are the important factor for this - I know, Wroclaw isn't unimportant in this case. But it also can't compete with the importance of Frankfurt or Warsaw in terms of financial functions - the financial center of Poland is Warsaw by the way. It's a completely different situation as you can find in Germany, for example. The most important parts of economy, culture, science and politics are mainly centered (and more 'n more shifting to) in Warsaw. You don't find that federal system as in Germany, Poland is more handled as like in France or GB.
So I don't understand YOUR points, because you didn't explain them. Probably you'll try to convince me of the opposite of my statements now, so that I can deal with it - Please, don't let u prevent from that! ;)
Blok July 24th, 2007, 03:39 PM Come on, let's be honest - do you guys expect a real skyline from Wroclaw in some decades?
http://i12.tinypic.com/62rj98n.jpg
Wrocek_fan July 24th, 2007, 04:01 PM Warsaw was only one and most important city of Poland in communist times,
but now it's getting change (back to historical tradition of Poland, where every province had it's own capital)
There are also some big cities in Poland (Cracow,Lodz,Wroclaw,Poznan,
Tricity (Gdansk,Sopot,Gdynia), UpperSilesian Aglomeration)., which are developing sometime faster then Warsaw. And Wroclaw, nowdays, is the greatest "tiger" of polish economy.
So, skyscrapers are built by private developers and they sometimes prefer Wroclaw then Warsaw. I'm sure, that they know better than You what to do with they money and your good advices are no needed for them ;)
NorthPole July 24th, 2007, 04:12 PM 1. There's no contradiction in having both old historical town and modern skyscrapers' cluster, so there's nothing wrong with skyscrapers in cities with long history (examples: Paris - IV c. (III c. BC?), London - I c., Frankfurt - I c., Moscow - XII c.). Wroclaw was granted city rights not before XIII c.
2. There'll be some 2km distance between the ST complex and Old Town market, so with assumed hight of 14-15m for the southern side of the market you should be at least 130m behind the market's side to see top of the ST complex. And the market is a square with side length of... 150-160m, so at the most southern position you will be able to see barely the top of ST (say 6-7 storey). There'll be no impact on the view of historical part of the city except long distance panorama from northern parts of the city.
3. Nothing wrong with having towers of "non-European" style (some say it's more Korean than European). Just wait for London's or Moscow's most impressive projects to be completed and you will see what "European style" means.
4. There are currently 3 urban areas "competing" on towers' field in Poland (Warsaw, Wroclaw and Tricity), so I wouldn't be surprised if every of the mentioned urban areas were developing its own preferred style for high rises (and, frankly saying, I hope it will be so).
Rafis July 24th, 2007, 09:37 PM This building really sucks... Sorry, but I don't understand why they are such a boxy-commie-fortress-building in the middle of the Pampa (excuse me, Wroclaw). not excatly because beside Sky Tower will appeare another project which is called Centrum Poludniowe and will be build by Grupo Prasa from Spain. This complex will contain 5 apartments-building (every about 100 meters), hotel building(130 m).

This will help to put Wroclaw on the map along with Euro 1012 (if the government don't stuff it up) and Expo (if we win it).

erbse September 7th, 2007, 05:27 PM You're such a dumbass, go trolling anywhere else. This is an architectural forum and it should just remain recognizable as such one. If you have another opinion about that, you'll probably aren't enable to honour us with your presence any longer as soon as possible. Fortunately.
What concerns the tower: What about the final height for now? Any informations that oozed out of some officials? And how far has gone the demolition progress of the remaining highrise?
Daewon September 7th, 2007, 06:59 PM Wow mate come down why you get some emotional about it  you joke about something and if i do the same you attack me in pay back mate its not right do you have any complex about it or wat :ohno:
erbse September 7th, 2007, 07:19 PM No, but I'm pissed off by looking at the same 'joke' more than ten times. You made the same with the thread of Frankfurt's SkyTower and you just act like a donkey. Please stop to spam architectural threads like that, u can do so at the Skybar or somewhere else - but please keep such building threads clean of this rubbish. No offense if u post some more renders of the Wroclaw-tower.

Rafis April 8th, 2008, 06:01 PM POLAND The cornerstone ceremony has taken place for LC Corp’s Wrocław residential development Sky Tower. This project includes 5 buildings, at the centre of which there is to be a 258m skyscraper. The complex will hold 844 apartments (of more than 6,000 sqm), a 20,000 sqm shopping centre with 120 retail units, and 20,000 sqm of offices. A 10,000 sqm recreation area will also be built, containing tennis courts, a swimming pool, a spa and indoor golf. Prices for the apartments are to vary between PLN 14,500 and PLN 40,000 per sqm. They building the second tallest skyscraper in the EU?! O_O
MG1803 April 15th, 2008, 08:35 PM ^^ Hey, English please :P "are building" or "building will be"
Sky Tower will be the second tallest building in Europe, but not for a long time. There are a lot of projects of buildings which are taller than ST. I hope, that a city which will beat the ST second place will be Warsaw ;)
Quicksilver April 15th, 2008, 09:16 PM Something is not right, Moscow has Federation tower at 360 m and then Mecrury Tower at 320 m both U/C as you know and then another 2 towers above 300m

So how come this is second in Europe?
It's probably 7th of 8th

Michalek May 24th, 2008, 06:48 PM i'm a big fan of wroclaw, i think it's a great city, but i think that the sky tower looks like it was designed 20 years ago. it's base looks bad, and there's nothing sleek and edgy about those towers, they look boring to me. i'm sorry, but when you spend so much money for such a huge investment, you should consider hiring better architects. i'm just hoping that the final result will look better than the images on the renderings :)

Heron Tower will reach "only" 202 m(roof) and 246m(spire). In London under construction there is no any highest tower than Wroclaw's Sky Tower.
Pendle June 15th, 2008, 03:04 PM Exactly, two of London's future skyscrapers are taller: the 288m Pinnacle and the 310m Shard at London Bridge. Both are at the demolition stage, not the construction stage. This will briefly be the second tallest building in the EU, then, surely?
