Hi all!
As you all know (I am a little bit optimistic), Liberec will host Nordic World Ski Championships in jan and feb 2009. Sapporo had The Dome. However, I missed more fans and more interest from Japanese. In 2009, it will be different and better than it was in Sapporo 2007!:) After 40 years, this championships goes to Central Europe (Obersdorf is not considered as CE :) ) and atmosphere in areas will be much better, Polish, Norwegian, German and other supporters are welcomed! :)

The LIBEREC 2009 FIS Nordic World Ski Championships

In June 2004 the directors of the International Ski Federation (FIS) decided that the host of the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships in 2009 will be the city of Liberec. Thus the city has been placed among important host cities alongside Obersdorf, Lahti, Sapporo and Val di Fiemme. The LIBEREC 2009 Nordic World Ski Championships will take place on two sites – the cross-country disciplines at the new Vesec recreation and sports facility, the ski jumping at the Ještěd sports arena.

Nice developement. But what if there will not be snow in 2009? I think manager of this event can commit suicide after that easily... just kidding :)

hehe.. no way, management of Liberec 2009 know answers even to your problems:) Have you ever heard about synthetic snow? Will be prepared in some "cold valley" and transferred by lorries to Vesec, I heard that:)

Yes, but it is very unattractive for spectators so I hope there will be sunny weather, -5°C at noon and at least 50cm of snow.

Well, new Vesec areal is quite adapted for them, tracks are not going in woods as it was in Sapporo, but they are well-arranged and racers will be visible from some higher places which are surrounding the race tracks.

I don't know if sunny weather and small amounts of snow are unattractive, I like it:) And maybe more will come because of good weather.. I am fan to thunderstorms, but I don't expect them here in feb 2009 :lol:

Damned czech government causing us troubles. Don't like them at all. Hope in 2020 or later when Prague will wil the bid for Olympics, things got better.. Now it's mock to all fans. Ministry of Education and Sports don't want to pay its liabilities of 700 mil. czech crowns for development connected with Ski World Cup.

Liberec - Ze tří návrhů mohou vybírat lidé maskot pro Mistrovství světa v klasickém lyžování, které se za rok uskuteční v Liberci. „Nejedná se o konečnou podobu maskota, ale o to, zda se maskotem MS stane veverka, lev, nebo budova televizního vysílače na Ještědu. Kromě podoby má veřejnost možnost určit také jméno maskota," uvedl mluvčí organizačního výboru Zdeněk Soudný.

Podle něj se maskot během mistrovství možná stane nejznámějším „Čechem". „Proto by i jeho jméno mělo odrážet to, že mistrovství je české, že ho dělají Češi. Při volbě jména je třeba myslet na to, aby bylo vyslovitelné i pro zahraničí," dodal Soudný.

Motiv Ještědu má symbolizovat město Liberec a Liberecký kraj s jeho dnes již neodmyslitelnou dominantou - vysílačem na Ještědu.

Lev je od pradávna symbolem České republiky, je nejen ve státním znaku, ale je to také heraldické zvíře, které symbolizuje českou historii i současnost.

Veverka je jeden z nejtypičtějších obyvatel Jizerských hor, místa konání mistrovství.

Areál na Ještědu je hotový z poloviny

Liberec - Areály ve Vesci ani na Ještědu ještě nejsou na světový šampionát lyžařů klasiků připravené. Do mistrovství zbývá už necelý rok, podle organizátorů ale vše stihnou včas dokončit. „Na Ještědu jsme sice ve dvouměsíčním skluzu, ale i kdyby nám počasí nepřálo, vše podstatné bude do šampionátu dokončeno," tvrdí manažer areálu na Ještědu Lukáš Týfa.

Podle něj jsou práce ve skokanském areálu hotové zhruba z poloviny. „Pro závodníky zbývá dodělat jen malý můstek, vybetonovat buben a dojezdy u obou můstků," nastínil. „Ostatní stavby souvisí se zázemím pro diváky," doplnil

V areálu se musí dostavět pevné tribuny, parkovací dům i zpevnit přístupové cesty. Asfalt kupříkladu chybí i na tzv. televizní cestě. A úpravy se dočká i bahnitá cesta vedoucí od konečné tramvaje. „Beranovu stezku rozšíříme, zpevníme, bude osvětlená, aby se stala důstojným vstupem do areálu," uvedl již dříve náměstek libereckého primátora Ondřej Červinka. Mimo toho v areálu musí vybudovat i garáž pro rolby.

I přes značné nedodělky se už organizační výbor dočkal i pochvaly od skokanského úseku lyžařské federace. „K úpravě chlazené stopy na můstku používáme frézu, kterou jsme si v Liberci speciálně upravili. Říkali nám, že je to ta nejlepší jakou viděli a chtěli by, aby jí používali i na jiných můstcích ve světě," pochlubil se Jaroslav Honců, generální sekretář organizačního výboru.

Jako přínosné pro skoky na Ještědu se také ukazuje vybudování umělého osvětlení. Denní závody nad stotisícovým městem totiž často narušoval silný vítr, který se ale obvykle k večeru uklidňuje. „Navíc večerní závody jsou pro diváky atraktivnější. I proto jich v seriálu světového poháru skokanů stále přibývá," poznamenal Honců.

Na jaře a v létě se také bude muset pracovat i v běžeckém areálu ve Vesci, který byl už zkolaudován na sklonku minulého roku. „Nedostatky má zasněžovací systém a v původním projektu chybělo i odvodnění kopce," popsal manažer běžeckého areálu Robert Heczko.

To se jako velký problém ukázalo při nedávném světovém poháru. Pokud by odvodnění bylo, sníh by z tratí na svahu neuplaval a nemuseli jsme ho navážet z hor," kriticky poznamenal Honců.

Organizační výbor by se tak vyhnul protestům ekologů, kterým se nelíbilo, že sníh brali i ze vzácných luk na Jizerce. CHKO pro Jizerské hory kvůli tomu dokonce zahájila s organizačním výborem správní řízení. „Výsledek ještě neznáme. Jsme ale připraveni v rámci možností vzniklé škody nahradit.," řekla prezidentka organizačního výboru Kateřina Neumannová.

Podle ní budou také před světovým šampionátem na rozmary počasí lépe připraveni. „Loni to možné nebylo, ale počítáme s tím, že letos začneme zasněžovat od prvních mrazů v listopadu. Velké hromady budeme dělat jak ve Vesci, tak i v Bedřichově," popsala. Kdyby to nestačilo, sníh by opět sváželi z výše položených míst v horách. „Už nyní jsme si začali vyřizovat všechna potřebná povolení," upozornil Honců.

Podle Roberta Heczka přitom k zasněžení celého areálu postačí, aby jeden týden byly teploty pod třemi stupni Celsia a 90procentní vlhkost vzduchu.

Mistrovství světa se v Liberci uskuteční od 18. února do 1. března 2009. Stát poskytl na šampionát téměř 1,3 miliardy korun. Zhruba 400 milionů uvolní město Liberec a 150 milionů Liberecký kraj. Stavby v ještědském a veseckém areálu budou stát celkem 1 miliardu a 82 milionů korun. Další peníze se investovaly do výstavby bytů v Zeleném Údolí a do úprav vysokoškolských kolejí v Harcově.

Dneska je fakt den na nic, málem jsem se zabil v autě a přejela mě skoro tramvaj, když k tomu připočtu tu ranní "koupel" v hydroxidu sodném, nemá to chybu.. ale i přesto jsem se stačil kouknout na Ještěd a udělat pár fotek ze skokanského areálu... ;)

Tjn, it's almost a national sport here (building a ski areal), every village with some hill nearby wants to have it's own ski areal to attract more tourists, even with the possibility there will be no snow in the future..

I understood your point..with that appropriate places I meant appropriate hills as in Czech Rep there is lack of such a hills..but anyway you (Czechs) have my admire for organizing this champ!

Jaká je předpověď počasí? Odkud se bude vozit sníh, z Alp?

V Liberci bylo za tuto zimu nejvíce sněhu v druhé polovině listopadu, a to bylo nějakých 14 cm. Mezinárodní ostuda se blíží, a na peněženkách to časem pocítíme všichni...

Sníh bude vždycky, zrovna ho je až až (edit: tak už zase ne..), ale areály by každopádně vypadaly líp kdyby byly zasněžený, ono když bude v televizi bílej pruh a kolem něj bláto, tak to liberci na popularitě zrovna nepřidá :-)

Na druhou stranu, Bedřichov byl už od začátku nesmyslná varianta, navíc mnohonásobně dražší než Vesec.

Až až? Ve Vesci není po sněhu momentálně ani památky... :lol:

Visitors often come to Jested – a silver oblate spheroid on top of Jested, to bow the city view point by public transportation and then they take a cable car. Tourists from many countries are attracted by this magic peek. A group of Poles, mostly guys, take a stroll to ski jumping hills, where Adam Malysz used to jump and they left in words: “We will come back….”

The most frequent guests in the city are Germans, Poles as well as Dutch. Jan and Ciska from the Netherlands are very familiar with this place; they have owned an estate in Januv Dul for more than ten years now, they have a car camp there. “Norwegians will live at our place and we will drive them to the venues. They will find everything they could possibly need there; we have Czech kitchen with Czech cuisine, bathroom, restaurant and internet too,” they say.

Groups from more remote states such as Arabs, Africans, Asians and South Americans come by mass transportation less often. Tourists from different parts of Europe are among individuals who come relatively often – for example from France, Spain or Switzerland.

French cameramen from Paris TV arrived privately to Jested during summer festival to see transmitter’s equipment. He appreciated its unique architecture and wrote down words of praise: „Tres heureux d´étre a nouveau a piedt du JEŠTÉD…“.

Japanese tourist wrote to the guest book: „Czech and Jested are so beutiful and Czech people are so warm. I like Czech and Czech people…“. And another Japanese noted down: „Liberec is wonderful city … We love CEC!“ (There should have been CZECH probably)

A young Japanese mum went towards the cable car wearing stilettos only making her way through snow, but it surely was an adventure for her and her kids. A teacher from Sachsen-Anhalt said on his way from Jested: “My first visit to Jested was truly a great experience to me. I will surely come in February to visit World Ski Championship with my family.” Elan Tamir, a student from Israel, would recommend a visit to Jested to everybody who ever comes to the Czech Republic.

A member of a group of approximately fifty chorus singers of mountain climbers from Dresden said after having visited the peak, that it was nice out there, but very cold. Mr. Anton Neumann, a business man from Mississanger (close to Ontario, Canada) expressed his opinion on his way to parking lot very laconically: “I am excited with my visit to Liberec and Jested. I will not be able to make it to the Championship though; it is way too far for me. ”

Two Arabs from Iran documented their trip during the whole trip to mountain peak with a video camera, but they were not interested in the Championship at all.

Group of eleven managers wanted to see Jested venue since of them were owner of slopes in Austria. Five chiefs from Jemen listened adversely to the expatiation about Jested; they were apparently not interested in skiing just like the Brazilians who plan on coming to Liberec more often to commemorate the environment of their ancestors.

Dario Romero from South America visited Jested too, he is not keen on skiing, but he is quite familiar with the area of Liberec, because he got married there. He has returned back recently. “I will not be present during the Championship, but I might come over since I really like it here,” said a journalist from South America.

A famous Slovakian traveler Jozef Karovič also visited Jested Mountains. Two beautiful girls Teresa and Iris from Hong Kong noted down only a few signs in the guest book and write down in English: „It´s nice tu be in Ještěd, it´s beutiful here!“

Miss Anette Kriegel teaches German language at a university and she comes to Jested every time when somebody from Germany came to visit her. She expressed her excitement concerning not only Jested: “I will surely return, I would love to see the forthcoming Bats’ night. I might work as an interpreter during the Championship.”

A tourist with a huge backpack went down Jested early in the morning and kept on going towards railway station. Sixty two year old pensioner took a trip all the way from Eisenach. He crossed the border in Hřensko, Czech Republic, he continued over Jizera Mountains to Krkonoše Mountains and Moravia. Then he carried on strolling to Slovakian mountains and Budapest. Horst Kalen heading to Garmisch-Partenkirchen drank a small beer and set out on a trip to railway station. He only made one remark: “When I travel, I drink your tasty beer, may the next year be a good one, God be with you.”

Why though ? Word Ski Championships are always good :) Well, it's not Olympics but still a major event in ski world

Yes, they are, because they usually aren't in 400 meter altitude in town with totally terrible infrastructure. Most of Liberec inhabitants look forward to the end of the championship, most of us consider the championship as a disaster, especially for expected collapse of the whole town. ;)

But you will have public transport for free for two weeks! I think I'll visit places where I've never been to in my life, like Dörfel, Schönborn or Friedrichshain :-P Of course, driving a car through the downtown will be suicide, but that's not my problem definitely.

Also there will be some cultural program in the city center, regional plaza, medal plaza, coffee house, beer house.. who cares about some snow? :) If you like Everton, you like it with or without new stadium in the same way!
