Krakow doesn't have indoor stadium good enough for hosting Eurobasket.

DocentX

it is really pity and also interesting that krakow won't be hosting for the organization. I spent 2 years in this beautiful city for education and in my opinion Krakow could have been good for Eurobasket especially with its touristic background. (although Balice Airport would have been needed to renovation)

Krakow will have a beautiful arena, but in a few years time.

The arena should be ready by 2012 or 2013.

Wisent aka European Bison :) Don't feel so indignant ;]
The mascot is kinda surprise because many of us expected the eagle.

Czyzyny district (to the east from the city center) - same district where Polish Aviation Museum is localized.

Very nice roof. I also like that there is only 1 tier for 12k.
Not a fan of the exterior though.

Rzeszow, according to Wikipedia, was a reserve city in case Łódź doesn't manage. As for today, it's certain that Łódź will make it. That's why Rzeszow was discarded. I suppose Rzeszów's government didn't put enough effort to be the host for EuroBasket. To be honest I would prefer them rather than old Olivia in Gdańsk.

I'd prefer NEW arena in gdynia with capacity of almost 5000

http://img.trojmiasto.pl/zdj/fotki/21800/z21878.jpg

instead of the OLD Olivia arena with the same cap.which currently looks like this:

http://bi.gazeta.pl/im/9/2140/z2140629X.jpg

Rzeszów also could cover for smaller arenas like Warsaw but I think the most important thing which is communication, transport and hotels made organizers think positive about Warsaw.

IMO It's better to show to the rest of the Europe new, modern and safety indoors. I must say I quite like Olivia btw.

I know there are also better indoors than Poznań Arena (for example Rzeszów, Gdynia and maybe Kielce).

That's right. It's interesting, because in the pictures stands looks quite narrow and small, but stadium will be on 16.000. Anyway. The stadium (especially the elevation) will look brilliant.

On the 3rd picture the stadium doesn't look like a stadium. Rather like an elegant shopping-mall . But it's ok, I like it.

Sold out arena looks very impressive.

The attendance at the first match was 11'850 (source:FIVB) but probably this is only a number of sold tickets. After the Euroleague FinalFour final match the attendance give by FIBA was 13,238 but everyone knows that O2 World in Berlin has app.15,000 seats for basketball.

With accreditations and invatings Arena Łódź has probably 13,500 seats for volleyball. But we do not know exactly.

But here is the question... what team would play here? Zagłebie Sosnowiec? And if so... are they not in II Liga or lower? Can they afford this is the question I'm wondering. Either way.. I would loooooove to see this stadium built.

Yeah. I wonder, for what they need such big stadium. As i can imagine, costs of construction from this project will be quite big.
I think it should be more lowly for such city and club.
However, if they have money for this. Go ahead ;). One more good looking stadium will be rather something good :)

Lovely! Similar shape to Az Alkmar, don't you think! If built, it would look amazing. I would only change the lights as I see no point of putting them up on posts - place them in the roof instead!!

yes, they're in II Liga, but they have a reasonable base of fans and are in a big city - so there are chances for a development

Two things

1. It is bad that the new arena in Gdansk will not be ready in time for the EuroBasket. It is apparently running behind schedule.

2. I have looked at some photos of Centennial Hall and it looks like it needs a major renovation of its exterior and interior. Since the hall is a UNESCO World Heritage site, its exterior appearance cannot be drastically altered.

Will the renovation of the Centennial Hall continue through EuroBasket? If so, when is the renovation going to be finished? And they should have fixed the seating areas in the arena's interior. Is the Centennial Hall a multipurpose exhibition hall like that new arena in Bilbao or is it only used for sports nowadays?

For sure it will not be done to Eurobasket but I don't know if they are going to do some renovation works durning the tournament.

If so, when is the renovation going to be finished?

in 2011.

Is the Centennial Hall a multipurpose exhibition hall like that new arena in Bilbao or is it only used for sports nowadays?

Sports are small part of events in the hall.Music events (Sensation White,Armin van Buuren and much more) and theatre plays take place in the Centennial Hall.

I wish Wisla would have gotten themselves a unique design for their stadiums. Such a shame that one of the best clubs in Poland has a weak stadium :(

Also, the arena in Kraków looks great. When will it be done and are there any more pics of it?

question-wich one u think build more faster???

Your stadium began to build at least a half a year earlier than Narodowy in Warsaw so at the moment your is more advanced.
It is still wrong thread if you want to compare our venues you should do it in a thread about the stadium in Bucharest or Warsaw.

What Romanian stadium have to do with Poland arena development ?

Exactly, take this somewhere else. I dont like Romanian national stadium. The only thing i like about it is its roof and support but not the outside of it. In my opinion the Warsaw national stadium looks better in every aspect.

It was the first project of stadium in my city. But right, that was an awful project. That project has been showed to UEFA in 2007, when Poland and changed after the UEFA choice. It was project of modernisation the Olympic Stadium in Wrocław, which now is an antique and is used (in sport) by a speedway team. Right now the Olympic Stadium looks like that:

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/2/29/Wroclaw_stadion_olimpijski_z_bramy.jpg/800px-Wroclaw_stadion_olimpijski_z_bramy.jpg

since last 80 years not much has changed (only the heated pitch installed with the spotlights in 1970's, which were the strongest in Europe at that time and some seats). Right now nobody knows about the modernisation, maybe in next few years we will know something more.

Does anyone think that Cracovia's stadium has the capability to build extra stands on top of the three that are going to just be one level? This stadium could probably reach 20k minimum if there is that possibility in the future if the team plays well. (Not like now though.. ) :)

^^The first one is an indoor ;)

If we created threads for each new stadium we'd have a little mess around here. IMO it's way better to gather those less important in one general thread.

(I wrote 30k+ cause I remember that we needed to create a new thread for Legia stadium the other day).

It's worth to write this rule in "forum rules". There is no such criterion about capacity of stadium.
Is only the number of chairs importand? Maybe this object is small, but it's most beautifull sports arena in old capital city of Poland.

It's worth to write this rule in "forum rules". There is no such criterion about capacity of stadium.
Is only the number of chairs importand? Maybe this object is small, but it's most beautifull sports arena in old capital city of Poland.
Well, make the title properly as forum rules states and we'll see if it survive.

I agree Cracovia is beautiful stadium but that's true it's rather too small to have separate thread.

Hopefully the quality of the new stadiums will translate to a stronger Ekstraklasa and in turn a stronger national team. I am definitely looking forward to catching matches at each of these new stadia :)

BTW. Stadium in Lubin has chairs in the newest part of stadium now.
I also hope that our clubs would play better when they get good infrstructure. And we have to get rid of PZPN.
