Echelon at 650ft will be a bit taller than both the 2 Wynn towers and the Palazzo in the background, which themselves are by no means small.

romanamerican July 29th, 2007, 11:20 PM think they could have done something better. it is nothing great, especially confronting it with the other grat projects coming up around the city.
Jaz August 9th, 2007, 08:37 AM With Echelon, the attention will be on the details. The building materials and claddings will be unusual and unique. This is a project that will look much much better in person than on paper. Can't wait.
samoen313 August 9th, 2007, 07:46 PM the hotel and suite tower look great, the delano/mondrian complex looks interesting, but the shangri-la stump they tried to sneak into the crack between the two main towers looks, at this point anyway, very misguided. the main entrance also looks a bit bland and suburban. but it has yet to go vertical so we can reserve true judgment for later. i do really like the hotel/suite towers.
Alweron August 9th, 2007, 07:52 PM That's such a beautiful design. I love those curves. A wave -like design seems to be very popular in Vegas.

cosmo2k9 October 13th, 2007, 07:20 PM Can we get an Echelon shot north facing from say Treasure Island?
Tyia!
mdiederi October 16th, 2007, 02:39 AM You'd have to rent a room pretty high to get a proper shot of the site from there. Maybe one of the visiting forumers can get a room there and bring their camera. I'm just gonna keep shooting from the Circus Circus south garage until the buildings get some height because that has the best view of the actual work going on without renting a room.

cachen March 17th, 2008, 12:13 AM i have a question for las vegas people: when all the old casinos are destroyed, are the signs kept in operation? for instance, the glitzy stardust sign, is it going to be trashed or maintained? i really hope they keep all those cool old signs and take care of them.
Jaz March 17th, 2008, 10:14 AM ^^
All the old signs are carefully dismantled and moved to the Neon Graveyard. Several of the old signs have been fully restored, then moved to the Neon Museum downtown.

Desalinization! Dubai at least has a lot of water Nearby it's just saltwater. Las Vegas on the other hand does not have a lot of water nearby.:ohno: Kind of what happens when you build a city in the middle of a desert.

I heard a proposal of creating like either a Los Angeles Resivor esq canal system or something like a pipeline leading from the Pacific it would sevrve all the southwest but mainly areas of arizona and southern nevada but that was from some cab driver in LA who told me that

las vegas circled in black and water sources circled in white, lake mead less than 30 miles from the las vegas strip covers an area greater than 1.5 million acres, holds 28.5 million acre feet (35 km³) of water, is 110 miles long and just so happens to be the largest reservoir in the United States, if the Imperial valley stopped sucking it dry it may sustain the southwest well into the next century

Dallasbrink May 8th, 2008, 05:47 AM Well you know, with the way Global Warming is going, Las Vegas in the Dessert could be Ocean front property while Ocean Front Dubai is the Lost City of Dubai that we take mini sub tours of.
"If you look to your right, you will see the Skyline of Dubai, submerged underwater, it has become a natural reef. These tower were paid for by the money raked in by the greedy oil hog Arabs of the middle east who over charged the European nations and North America, until America discovered they had the largest deposit of oil in the word off the coast of Alaska and started drilling it, making them the Worlds Oil Supplier. Now lets go to the George Bush gift Shop."

Sad about the worker dying but assembling/disassembling scaffolding is notoriously dangerous.
mdiederi June 18th, 2008, 02:57 AM Yeah, I haven't heard any predictions that sea levels are going to rise two thousand feet, LOL.
However, I did hear on the news that the worker at Echelon was wearing a safety harness while dismantling the scaffolding, but unfortunately it was attached to the piece of scaffolding that he just dismantled and tossed to the ground, and it pulled him down with it. Guess he forgot which piece he was attached to.
Viciouster June 18th, 2008, 04:12 AM nice building... But it could be nicer with more details in the design

Those types of accidents will always happen. It gets hot, you get tired, and you make a mistake and in construction a mistake can kill you.

NEW YORK, Aug 1 (Reuters) - Casino operator Boyd Gaming Corp (BYD.N: Quote, Profile, Research, Stock Buzz) said on Friday it has decided to delay construction of its new Las Vegas Strip casino called Echelon and suspended quarterly dividends.
The company also posted lower second-quarter profit as the U.S. economic slowdown reduced gambling revenue.
The company also said it has decided to delay the construction of Echelon due to the challenging economic environment. It plans to resume construction in three or four quarters, assuming credit market conditions and economic outlook improves.
Boyd had been paying quarterly dividends of 15 cents per share.
Boyd reported net income of $21.7 million, or 25 cents a share, compared with $22.1 million, or 25 cents per share, a year earlier.
Income from continuing operations slipped to 25 cents a share in the quarter from 26 cents a share a year before.
Excluding items, earnings in the quarter were 30 cents a share, down from a year-ago 45 cents a share. (Reporting by Euan Rocha, editing by Gerald E.
