Imo State Goverment has panvestment in Oguta Lake Tourism Centre to create 20,000 job opportunities to indigenes of the state as well as provide opportunities for local and international investors to partner with the state government.
The partnership is to drive the project and ensure the provision of necessary facilities for its immediate takeoff.
Governor Ikedi Ohakim disclosed this during a visit to the lake where he saw deteriorating facilities that had spanned eight years.
The tourism centre will include an international conference centre, housing estate, FIFA-approved stadium, a five-star hotel, a huge shopping mall, amusement parks, cinema halls and Nollywood village for Nigerian actors.
With regular unscheduled visits to expected revenue sources of the state, it does appear that the state is in a hurry to catch up with developmental challenges in the areas of tourism and industrialisation, which attracted little attention many years ago.
However, Business Day has gathered that work would soon start on the dualisation of Owerri-Aba , Owerri-Umuahia , Owerri-Okigwe , Owerri-Orlu , Owerri-Port Harcourt roads as part of the clean and green Imo programme of the governor.
On the Owerri-Onitsha road, a source said the Federal Government was already working on the dualisation of the road linking Anambra State with Owerri.
The source said the inspection would give the governor the opportunity to make policy statements on roads, particularly on the 70-kilometre ring road, which could decongest traffic in the state capital.
PS: Interesting news! Need to follow this!
