SeaGuy July 6th, 2007, 11:26 PM Has anyone posted this yet? 1903 5th, 550', 46 story hotel/condo (or as my friends and I have been calling them, "Hondos") tower.

mhays July 7th, 2007, 12:48 AM We've talked about it somewhere. I desperately want this one to happen.
I like hondo. Or "cotel"? Or "hotdo" might have the most zip.
tmaxxfreak11 July 7th, 2007, 01:26 AM Wow, taking into account all buildings u/c right now, if this is built, it would be the 3rd tallest residential tower in the Northwest, tallest in the US Northwest.
Dancer July 7th, 2007, 04:25 AM ^^ Good point :D How tall is Shangri-la in Vancouver?
edit______________________________________
At 550 ft, it will be just under 100 feet shorter then Shangri-la (642 ft) Thats pretty cool but I hope this is just the begining because we should be doing as well as Vancouver by this point in the area of residential towers.
Bond James Bond July 7th, 2007, 07:54 AM Wow, hadn't seen this one yet.
Is this the site of one of those former monorail-owned lots?
I think we've talked about this, but it used to be a smaller project.

Black Box July 7th, 2007, 08:05 AM They just keep coming! When will it stop? I don't want to see it end, but it has to at some point before another boom.
BoulderGrad July 7th, 2007, 08:37 AM Ah, knew I had seen this one before:

Still a cool project none the less. Is it still under review or has it been approved?
mhays July 7th, 2007, 10:06 PM What do you mean by "approved"? There's design review, the land use permit (and any variances), building permit... Thankfully nothing extra like a shoreline permit in this case.
The building permits take six months (or a few extra), and are sometimes awarded a few weeks or even hours before construction starts. In other words, contractors often gear up and wait. To expedite the applications, you generally apply for a shoring and excavation permit first, since those can be designed well in advance, then apply for the rest of the project's permits as the design progresses. Of course, much of the design detail work happens well after that, and even extends into construction.
In any case, it doesn't have any of those permits. This one just came up this year. The whole "approval" process will take probably 14-18 months.
Permits aren't a big question anyway, unless they're going for a zoning variance or something. They'll simply go through the process and it'll take as long as it takes, which is a surprisingly long time. The real "go or no-go" decisions are made by the developers and their financiers.
NW Mike July 8th, 2007, 08:34 AM Remember we spoke of this tower months ago in SSP. The tower is being designed by Ismael Leyva of New York.

This one is one of His from New York. Very small footprint. I like it. It can give us an idea of the width of the tower.

Thanks Mike!
Yeah I wouldn't mind a really skinny tower like that in Seattle.
tmaxxfreak11 July 8th, 2007, 09:23 AM It doesn't look that skinny... Or at least not like the tower 2 posts above...

SJM July 8th, 2007, 09:36 AM Very nice, i hope this gets built. Having this along with Escala next door would definately reshape that area.
on another note, that skinny building for NY is crazy!!! I love it
WESTSEATTLEGUY July 8th, 2007, 04:14 PM That wooden rendering is like the width of one the Westin Towers, not that skinny.
