Lol, the 80ies are back in Åmot, Buskerud:

That would be a great leap forward for that place.

And I also think the building looks like shit, grey, uninviting with big plates (flater).
Recently one of the ugliest buildings from the 80s was renovated (looks quite good), this building is pretty much in the same category imo.
I would really like to see this beuilding getting renovated. This plot is one of five in nedre langgate where infills is much needed to give this (hevay trafficated) road a facelift, but this wont help much when only half is used to build on and rest of the plot facing nedre langgate will continue as a parking lot. They could atleast thought about making a permanent parkingsolution (under ground). The developer is obviously only thinking about his own interst.

The square a few quarters away is btw being renovated this days. This (http://www.tonsbergtorv.no/) is how its gonna look when its finish.

http://i178.photobucket.com/albums/w255/greatcentral/tnsberg1.jpg

jepp, the circled area is where the centre will go, and the other parking lots can be seen left and right, not to mention the fact that most everything else in the picture is retail.

also, the site looks very small, i can't imagine they will be allowed to pull down the wooden buildings close by?

Man that is sad, build a suburban mall right in the city, why don'tcha :|

Allthough i guess Haugesund is no better, we also built a mall right in the middle of the town in the late 80's. it's sort of nice inside though, has more of a magazine feel to it than suburban mall really, shame about the typical 80's style though:

it has 5 floors, 3 for retail, 1 for offices + municipal (kommunale) institutions like youth psychiatry and on the top, apartments, nice ones too i bet!

Maybe it is, i don't like the 80's style that much though. Either way, if you're gonna build a mall in the core of Tønsberg, then for god's sake, integrate it, make it 2 floors taller, remove the parking lot, or at the very least make a parking structure behind it, have some apartments and offices on the upper floors, and you might end up with something that contributes to the town.

Good to see such development in Kristiansund. Will truly be a great feature for the city!:D

My favorite proposal is Silencio. It's the one that sticks out the most, and is the most spectacular. Looks cool!:) Kulturkvarteret looks classy, and is the safe choice. Lydbølgen may also have something, but it's a bit hard to interpret. The two others are just boring.

Her er Sotra-byen
Kino og kafeer, festplass og gater, leiligheter og butikker. Straume i Fjell kommune skal bli en levende by.
http://images.bt.no/btno/multimedia/dynamic/00651/709079__Her_er_Stra_651522c.jpg

http://images.bt.no/btno/multimedia/dynamic/00650/718892__Fylket_krev_650610c.jpg

- For mange skjær i sjøen

Parkering legges i egne anlegg.

A-lab won a competition to design a military base in Norway which will be situated on the northern border with Russia. The design challenge was to create a cohesive complex where work and private life coexist, and where military services meet the civil community.

The project is comprised of a larger u-shaped building which houses most of the functional needs, while the remaining program is organized in smaller satellite buildings. The main building is centered around a courtyard and the circulation on the ground floor is located along a glass façade surrounding it. “This gives a constant visual connection between the activities going on inside and outside, with the opportunity to open the façade and let some spaces to physically expand out into the courtyard.”

The ground floor holds work related functions. As such, the floor has a strict, functional design to meet all the requirements for the daily activities at a border station, such as training, administration and emergency call-outs. The first floor accommodates living relation functions, such as rooms and a fitness center. All rooms have a view out to the wild nature or the courtyard in an effort to maintain the spirit of the courtyard as the heart of the building.

The main building and its satellites maintain a “strong architectural coherence”. Wood is the main material used both in construction and façades, yet used differently to reflect the outer expression of private or public activities. More secret activities are clad with dark wooden panels, mirroring glass in common rooms and deeply positioned windows in the remaining rooms. This creates an anonymous appearance in comparison to the façade towards the courtyard, with translucent glass and labeled doors, where function, clarity and openness are the keywords.

Knarvik Kirke

Reiulf Ramstad Arkitekter won 1st prize in an invited competition for the new Knarvik Church, north of Bergen.

The Church of Knarvik holds an important position as a cultural provider and a communicator for the Christian message and community, on holidays
and during every day. The church will be central for a safe childhood environment and at the same time be a platform for cultural development,
arts and music in the community.

The church is friendly placed in the terrain and has dimensions that respect and blend harmoniously into the landscape’s vegetation, topography
and that stress the space qualities. The church and its outdoors are developed to the place and the soon to come central square in Knarvik. The
church of Knarvik will become a local venue for visitation and faith through the whole week. The project shall appear invitingly and including for
all people.

The church of Knarvik will be an inspiring and a worthy place for gatherings that shows great respect for the Christian faith, people, climate and
the environment.

Finally some news about Prostneset, 7 years after Space Group won the competition for the site!

Tromsø Cruise Terminal Project on Urbika.com (http://urbika.com/projects/view/3935-tromsa-cedil-cruise-)
In 2003 Space Goup won the international design competition for the design of the new cruise terminal for the Coastal Express (Hurtigruta) in Tromso. The project includes the Hurtigrute terminal, speedboat terminal and cultural facilities in the center of Tromso.

Chess Tromso applied for Chess Olympics for 2014 on the basis of Space Group's design for the cruise terminal. The jury highlighted a compact venue. as one of the benefits. The event will take place in close proximity to Tromso's fabulous waterfront and city center. It is expected that visitors from more 160 countries will visit the city during the games.

The cruise terminal will be situated in the city center, and will be a stunning building. This eliminates all car traffic for the event and the city center will be bursting with life, says the President of Tromso Chess Club, Jan Sigmund Berglund.

It's great that the cruise terminal can be used for various types of events. I believe the building will be ready in time and I am all in all very optimistic, says Tromso Port Director, Halvar Pettersen.

Now if only the good folks in Molde had the intelligence to build a multipurpose facility like this on the waterfront rather than the Jazz Theatre Hus (which is a great looking building) that no one will ever see properly because it's hidden down a back of the high street service road.

I like Molde but for some daft reason which I can't understand the town completely ignores it's waterfront, Molde has probably the finest view in all of Norway, if not Northern Europe, it's simply magnificent but you can't see it from the town centre, any other city I could think of with a view like this would be making the most of it, but not Molde.

Sorry can't find the link but there is a plan to build a container terminal in Høgset in Gjemnes kommune. The idea behind the port is to take advantage of the opening of the Northern Passage, and to ease congestion in the major European ports, goods will be shipped to this Høgset than transshipped via feeder services to other ports in Europe.

The cost of this development is in the region of 3 billion NOK for the port facilities. It's anticipated that 90% of the cargo will be transshipped with the remaining 10% originating from or destined for Norway.

Even with only 10% from or to Norway I very much doubt the local roads will be able to cope with the amount of traffic that this development will generate. A rail link would be crucial as well as a proper motorway link to the E6 would be the only sensible option.

I think it's a fantastic idea, I hope that local and regional govt will back it, the employment that this would generate would be huge plus the dramatic lessening of transport time and cost for goods to market for products manufactured in Western Norway would be good the region.

Largest container harbour in the country to be built in Nordmøre

A terminal with capacity for up to 200.000 containers are to be built in Gjemnes, Nordmøre, south of Kristiansund. Investment will be between 600-1.000 mio NOK, and the company Nor Trust AS is behind the plans.

No doubt here, "Tett på bryggebyen" is pretty cool:)

No doubt it is, and it won! ("Tett på" vinner utformingen av Skien Brygge! (http://www.romeiendom.no/aktuelt/tett-paa-vinner-utformingen-av-skien-brygge))

Skien Brygge
A collaborative design effort by A-lab (http://www.a-lab.no/) (Oslo, Norway) and SEA (http://www.s-e-a.dk/) (Copenhagen, Denmark) has been announced the winner of the competition for a new urban
development on Skien Brygge in Norway. The project comprises the transformation of a former harbor area into a new urban community. The four hectare large
harbor site is framed by the water towards the west and a steeply rising landscape towards the east. Skien is one of the oldest cities in Norway established
around 1000 AD. It is the 11th largest city in Norway with approximately 50,000 inhabitants. Historically, Skien is shaped by the development of the harbor and
the activities on the waterway.

Project Description:
The city is – and has always been – characterized by changes. Cities are living organisms that develop according to changes in the financial, technological, and
social conditions. The strong point of the city is its diversity which facilitates meetings between people across interests, age, social status and religious affiliation.
The city is a meeting place. We believe successful urban planning takes as a starting point the social interaction between people.

‘A city is a human settlement in which strangers are likely to meet’ [from ‘Fall of public man’ – Richard Sennett]

We propose a design strategy that focuses on public space – what is the city but the people? A city should be open and inviting with diverse activities and
multiple possibilities. Our vision is to create a new neighbourhood in Skien that is sustainable and inclusive – a new city rich in identity. A city that is lively and
attractive - and thereby promotes a holistic lifestyle and supports public life. But how do we support the adaptability of the new city so that it opens up and
allow change? And how do we develop a robust planning process that at the same time ensures diversity so that new communites and public life can be realized?

We introduce a compact and dense urban plan
A-lab and SEA’s vision for Skien Brygge is to create a new sustainable urban community in close relation to the city, the water and the landscape. Compact cities
use less energy and natural resources. At the same time the compact city provides accessibility to events, experiences and city life. Some of the most attractive
places on earth are also some of the densest. In our proposal for a new development on Skien Brygge we introduce a compact and dense urban plan. A series of
new public spaces ties the city together –urban squares, parks, natural landscapes, narrow streets, niche parks, pathways and waterfronts.

Public space network
Our design solutions begin with developing a public space network. The overall layout of the project is a grid consisting of infrastructure and urban spaces. This
grid is distorted according to the lines and boundaries of the context creating six new urban spaces and twenty building plots. The urban strategy integrates
public life from day one – for example by staging temporary urban spaces for events or other temporary activities. City life attracts people – people attracts
people!

Blue recreational space
Most of the existing industrial areas along Skien harbour front are currently changing into mixed-functions areas. With the new Skien Brygge and a planned bridge
across Bryggevannet the harbour area has the potential to become the ‘blue commons’ of Skien - a blue recreational space at the heart of the city. A new
network of functions and events will fill the area with life and invite to experiences, enthusiasm and activity for everyone.

The new Skien Brygge community is an important part of this network. With close links to the surrounding city Skien Brygge will offer the city new space and
activity on the waterfront. The plan introduces intimate water spaces that provides a pleasant contrast to the wide harbour basins and intensifies the
experience of and contact with water. Skien brygge will activate the waterfront as an attractive resource in the future development of Skien – a good place to
live and a good place to visit.
