View Full Version : Melbourne - on hold ?
williampitt July 10th, 2007, 05:43 AM Doesn't seem to be much happening in skyscraper land in Melbourne, which is a shame.
What are the reasons ?
Docklands, a fall in the apartment industry, oversupply of office space ?
When will we see the next batch of tall buildings ?
Tyson July 10th, 2007, 05:58 AM Prehaps when they have finished building the backlog of not so tall buildings? For example my estimates show that in the city we currently have U/C:
Neo
CBW
Life Lab
Waterfront City
Mosaic
Lend Lease HQ
FWP3
Q2
Convention Centre
ANZ
Northbank
567C
Media House
SX2
National Foods
Vue Grand
Recital Centre
Axa, nearing completion
a whole bunch along St Kilda Road...
... more? less?
Qantas743 July 10th, 2007, 09:55 AM I have been thinking the same thing recently. It does seem pretty quiet atm!
sakor1 July 10th, 2007, 10:16 AM Definately not quiet. Just look at the list that Tyson has posted. Some of those are massive projects (ANZ, Convention centre in particular). OK, so there is no FWP1 or Eureka U/C like we've had in recent past but by no means is there nothing going on, it's just all under 150m ;)

crave July 10th, 2007, 10:20 AM please send more of your 150m's to perth... or we'll steal them!
kthanx...

I think I mentioned skyscrapers.
Anyway, I was looking at this list:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tallest_buildings_in_Australia
There are 5 new buildings from South East Queensland on this list and nothing from Melbourne. :ohno:
And what is worst is that according to wikipedia, Eureka is not officially the tallest. :dunno:
Maybe we should arrange a protest against campus style buildings ?

Yep I believe its called density! There is still billions of dollars of new work going on and thats a long way from stagnation.
Tyson July 10th, 2007, 01:22 PM Don't worry about that wiki page. It appears to have been edited by someone with a particular affection for SEQ.
melbournee12 July 10th, 2007, 02:01 PM some possible 150m+ buildings to come in the future off the top of my head are..
- Prima Tower - 226m
- 368 Little Collins - 200m
- CUB site - 204m??
- Possibly the Spencer Powerstation redevelopment
- SAMA site
are there any more that i have left out?

Forget about wikipedia. EVERYONE in the world knows that Melbourne is the best city on so many levels. NO CITY comes close to Melbourne. Melbourne is officially the best city in the world. Simple. *yay*
A r c h i July 10th, 2007, 02:12 PM Why, just why?

Oh shut the fuck up you troll. No-one suggested anything of the sort, and no-one was having a dig at any other city.
mic July 10th, 2007, 03:46 PM ^^ Don't even bother, he clearly has a problem with Melbourne being what it is and hates the fact his tacky gayed up shit-hole can't kick our progression.
MelboyPete July 10th, 2007, 04:19 PM hi...somewhat of the topic..but can someone be able to answer a question for me...I've just noticed I'm unable to click on any of the smilies etc to be included in my postings..I use to be able to...a bit annoying but no big deal I guess..just curious as to what could be the cause....cheers.
gappa July 10th, 2007, 04:20 PM ^^ :bash: :bash:    :tongue4:  :ohno:  :)
works for me
MelboyPete July 10th, 2007, 05:10 PM yeah sure...rub it in...hehe
Blabbyboy July 11th, 2007, 04:43 AM Blabby is more interested in Melbourne's built and urban environment as a whole.:D New scrapers are great as long as they contribute to the current fact that, at the street level, Melbourne can't be beat (at least in Oz and certainly in most cities of the same age). Let other cities catch up - no matter how many scrapers they build elsewhere, that won't change the fact that Melbourne still has the best built environment. :D
redbaron_012 July 11th, 2007, 05:43 AM Gappa...where did you get that pic of the last meet????
