the English name (and other lan.) of that land is Palestine.
this Jewish add ,at the time of the British mandate of Palestine, appeals to British tourists in their own language.
also in Hebrew we use different and ancient names for some countries as well.
anyhow the term Israel is the oldest one in use to describe that land.or any other land on planet earth.
Merneptah Stele - the Israel stele 1230 BC
the term Israel written on stone

Because of the fact it mentions "Israel" and is the first known record of the written name "Israel" in history, the stela has gained some notoriety. Many Egyptologists refer to it as the "Israel stele" because of this, though the title is an erroneous one, as the stela is clearly not about Israel at all. In fact, there is only one line about Israel – "Israel is wasted, bare of seed" – and very little about the region of Canaan as a whole, as Merneptah inserts just a single stanza to the Canaanite campaigns and multiple stanzas to his defeat of the Libyans.

What does that prove? How is it related to what he said anyway?

It is not less related to what he said than the picture he posted with what he said.
Kappa21 July 11th, 2007, 10:33 PM If Palestine existed, than how come there was no authority, monarchy or any form of history what-so-ever that had to do with Palestinian culture.
The only Palestinian history are inter-wined with Ottoman, Malmulke, roman/Byzantine/Ummayad history.
Moreover, even Edward Said and Benny Morris, 2 famous scholars for Palestine and its identity admitted that Palestinians were much of nomads than most people in the middle east.
The Palestinians had a high infant mortality rate and the only way that they stopped that and began to grow was when Greek and British/French Montessary's began to grow giving hospitals and other facilities to take care of the old and to protect the young.
Also, Jordan was part of Palestine, so it goes to show....
Kappa21 July 11th, 2007, 10:39 PM ^^ Also,
Aznpheonix had a thread not so long ago about Bosnians in Palestine.
Did he ever think twice that a big portion of Palestinians came from Islamic nations outside of the Arab world?
Especially the Souther Russian Stans, Turkey, Iran and a few others...
Infact, Miss Israel in 1998 was known as an Arab-Israeli. But intruth, she was a Kosovo Refugee who got sponsored as a refugee asylum back in the early 90's by her relatives, in Israel....
smussuw July 11th, 2007, 10:46 PM You are missing the main issue. The problem line with the ethnic cleansing and the substitution of a nation on the expense of another.
Changing the name from Palestine to Israel is one of the results.
Kappa21 July 11th, 2007, 11:12 PM You are missing the main issue. The problem line with the ethnic cleansing and the substitution of a nation on the expense of another.
Changing the name from Palestine to Israel is one of the results.
Arab conquest made alot of changes to the middle east.
One of them is ruining most of Ancient Persia and creating a new dialect..
the fact that you think they were ethnically cleansed makes no sense at all. If they were, you would be in a air conditioned musuem in Abu Dhabi, doing nothing more than look at the Extinct Race of the Palestinians....
Face it...
today there in "palestine" tommorow they go to Egypt, then 2 weeks they go to Libya, than Chad and then whatever..
thats how Palestinians or people who considered themselves Palestinians used to live say 500 years ago....
the only Palestinian cities that existed were probably Haifa, Jaffo, Nablus, Jericho, Jerusalem, and Hebron.. and like Benny Morris said, because of Malaria and the fact that they were...lets say too 'lazy' to make roads, than they probably had nothing in common between one another...
think of living in a country that you said is palestine and not knowing there is another city north of you, or west of you..
thats how the palestinians were, those who were urbanized..and many were christians, jews and muslim traders and craftsmen.... making deals with mostly bedouin tribesman who came by once in a while and then left for their journey into whatever...
Gilgamesh VI July 11th, 2007, 11:23 PM What does that prove? How is it related to what he said anyway?
Well, he said "I understand many pro-Zionists or Israeli people say Palestine don't exist?"
And I tried to explain that when 'we' say that Palestine didn't exist we mean that it didn't exist as a real independent country. For * sake, we all know about the "British mandate of Palestine".
Kappa21 July 11th, 2007, 11:29 PM ^^ There is also the Region of Palestina which consister of Israel, WB/GAZA, and Jordan with parts of Lebanon and Syria too..
the thing is...is that even the Ottomans, when they were taxing people in Palestine, say in the north for Akko, they would tax people who are in modern day Lebanon and even Syria (the druze), because thats what the region of Akko was....
smussuw July 11th, 2007, 11:31 PM You are not making sense
AZPhoenix was talking about the existence of Palestine while u change the subject to whether Palestine was independent or not.
