Canadian Rockies remain one of my top places in the world to visit, someday when I have the time and money. Moraine is one of my two favorite lakes there...the other is Lake O'Hara. By any chance did you get any pics of that lake, HKskyline?

Lake O'Hara? I'm not sure where it is located. The two major lakes I visited were Moraine and Peyto further north.

It is located in Yoho National Park, but not too far from Lakes Louise and Moraine. I guess fewer people visit O'Hara because you have ask permission first...only a certain number of hikers are permitted at a time, to protect the delicate environmental setting. There is also a luxury lodge there...guests don't need permission to be there of course. You can google pics of the lake if you like but really an aerial photo is better to appreciate, since its special appeal comes from an amphitheater setting, which is difficult to capture in a photo.

Well I haven't been there, but the "moraine" which gives the lake its name is a natural dam...I guess the larger stuff brought down by the meltwater gets caught there.
