One Woodward Avenue was built in 1962 by Minoru Yamasaki, whos offices are in Metro Detroit. It was the predecessor of the World Trade Center. It stands 430 feet tall (131m), with 32 stories. At it's base is a small plaza with a 30 feet tall glass-walled lobby.

Its boxy, but for some reason I like it, especially at night. Almost angelic.

5.5/10 it looks real cool at night, and a ugly boring box at day

I give it a 7 also. It's not meant to be a stand-alone, rather a filler building. It's top at night is now lit in red, white, and blue, or at least it was the last time I saw it. Yeah, by day it can look a little boring, but it still has some odd international style charm about it.

8.5/10...Unique, sharp at the top, different on the sides, simple and has a nice vertical approach. It looks stunning at night too.

While it isn't quite the glass box dominant during that era, I still don't like it much. Particularly, because it blocks one of my favorite buildings, The Guardian. However, since it was the first major post-war commercial development in Detroit, I give it a few more points. Besides, it really does look beautiful at night.

Not a bad-looking bldg. The lobby is mildly impressive... large glass sheets and I think u can practically see thru it at some points. I hate the whole "boxy" thing too but every city has 'em and I've seen much worse in other cities. It's right on the water/Hart Plaza too which is a great urban location..... many a hazy night stumbling past this bdlg.

For a modern box, it at least has some interesting details.
It shares extremely narrow windows with Yamasaki's NY WTC design.

A picture I took provides a closer look at the individual windows:

Ugly, unimaginative, and borderline-brutalist. I've seen worse, but not much worse.

Some of you people have been brutal in your ratings (I had given it 7/10). Would you have given similar ratings to the NY WTC? One Woodward and the NY WTC are by the same architect.

Here is an exterior shot I took of the lobby area of One Woodward:

The 20 foot high plate glass lobby was among the largest installation of its kind at the time of the building's construction.
