Mexico isn't part of South America. Mexico is North America too.

Yes, I know.

Central America = between Mexico and South America
North America = Canada, US, Mexico + Central America
South America = everything south of Central America

If Torre Bicentenario would sustain an earthquake. I'm sure they've taken into account that, and several security issues. Torre Mayor is build to sustain a 8.5+ earthquake.

I see all of this "ugly" going around, but if you actually look at the design overall, it's very modern Mexico (with some historical properties too I believe)!! I think it would fit nicely for that location.

A brave new approach to skyscraper design.

Although you find it odd the first time you view the renderings - on first page of this thread - and as you browse through the thread and you get to understand the design features of it, especially the vista vertical view - down above - it starts to come to view as a really unique beautiful structure that never been attempted before.

Once you have gotten past the sarcastic funny remarks of "sinora obesa" or "pregnant/over weight something", you get to realize it's a gutsy, unique, and beautiful design.

I hope they build it - congratz for Mexico.

Huge129
September 27th, 2007, 05:48 PM
the first idea that crossed my mind when I saw the renders was "pregnant".

But that was mentioned earlier in the thread.

I do hope it gives birth to some better looking building.

Hey, the tower was cancelled for some politics stuff and some people with such a archais minds, talking of the " damage" that the tower could do to their weeds and the landmark ( by the weird design)... :ohno:

But, the government of the city are looking for some other place where the tower will be build, and they say that reforma, circuito or Insurgentes will receive this project. So isn't cancelled at all, there'll be a HUGE monster in Mexico City, and Ive have to be there at 2010. :).

Anyway, I think another place could be better, those little tiny buildings near to Torre Bicentenarioon in the renders, didnt look that good.

"In press conference, the local agent chief executive said that already he gave to the instruction to the secretary of Urban Development and House, Arturo Aispuro Colonel so that he looks for “other possibilities” in the city and so that he fits the project.

And I reiterate that it will be the Legislative Assembly that makes the final decision and for it it has mentioned the delegates who have shown interest in this or another similar project and are: Azcapotzalco, Benito Juárez, Iztacalco, Gustavo A. Log, Tláhuac and Tlalpan."

^^ Is this accurate translation? and does this mean the tower will be relocated or totally dead?

The main reason according to the New York Times is that there was strong neighborhood opposition, and several threats of lawsuits to stop it from being build in historic Chapultepec Park. To add on even more bad news, the mayor of (DF) Mexico City, Marcelo Ebrard, withdrew his support for the tower. The NYT also reported that the developers names weren't released because they are reportedly looking for another location.

Look. The design of Rem Koolhaas isn't will be construct, but there are new designs for this tower in other ubications. In the citiy's south there are a project for this tower of more than 300 meters. The tower will be construct, but not the Rem Koolhaas design

If anybody's understand this, here is in Spanish

Esperen!

Well, the think is that the first Tower Bicentenario is not proposed in a new location. The second tower is only a Project. The thing is that there will be a Tower in México called Bicentenario. It doesn't matter that the design was of Rem Koolhaas or mine. There will be a tower...

In this thread there are some photos and information (in Spanish) about the new project:

No, old/first/Rem Koolhas "Bicentenario Tower" is still on foot, but they had problems with the location, they are trying to find out a new location en Mexico City.

Then, ANOTHER/secondary/weird "Bicentario Tower" has been proposed, we don't really know what is going on with that tower.

In a positive way, if both are going to be built, there will be 2 Bicentario Towers (i know, stupid but real), maybe at the end they change the name, but it is noticed 2 towers, the first one with 300m and the second with 350m.

The new project will be announced shortly. It will be in the Cuauhtémoc District, not far from the area where it was thought initially build.

This time the announcement will be made along with the entire urban project, which will include a network of underground pathways.

Let's explain this.

There will be a tower in Mexico City called "Torre Bicentenario", that in English means "Bicentenary Tower". This tower will be construct because in September will be the Bicentenary of the Mexico's Independece.

Now, I don't know which tower will be construct. The Rem Koolhaas version, the new version, the thing is: In México City will be a Bicentenary Tower. Now, this thread is called "Torre Bicentenario" and I question, why this thread should be closed?

This tower will be construct, but right now, the architects of the tower are talking with the contractors. I will be patient. In the Milenio Newspaper, announce that this tower will be construct.

Do you need other sources??
Check the Mexican thread in Mxscrapers, Mexico City. There are two or three threads about this and are waiting the official anouncement, but theres not closing the thread... Please be patient, don't close this. :ohno:

Well, that's right Gabriel, but now let's explain this:
After the tower was canceled, there was other projects. One project is that. A tower of 350 meters localizated in Tlalpan, the south of the city. This project consist in a tower of 350 meters, a new highway and a "train line" (I dont konw how to say this: Línea de metro").

Now, the Rem Koolhaas project still in foot (SoHype post this one or two pages back), and probably this tower will construct in a new location near than the area of the first project. So maybe, we will have two towers of more 350 meters, but one of this need to be the true Bicentenary Tower. Maybe we will have only one tower. In a few days we will konw this information.

Is this thread ever going to close. This building has been cancelled!!!

Tower was not canceled - the location it was proposed for it was - and even that is not yet inked as the government has to OK it, something that will take place in November of this year. Read posts in previous pages on the thread, which includes an article that states exactly that.

New location will be found for the tower.

No, but there are rumors to a happy notice in Christmas about this project.
There are a concurse for construct two towers of 500 meters each one.
Maybe, the winner design will be construct.

November 13th, 2007, 08:50 AM

This building has been cancelled!!! :sleepy:...

This building has been cancelled!!! :sleepy:...

BT it's suspended, not cancelled, and well.. we HAVE news, for example, "Kaspe building demolition is imminent" (old building which because of political interest wasn't demolished).

That piece of trash will be demolished, maybe the BT will be in its original location, we are ON HOLD.

El Quijotillo
November 14th, 2007, 11:04 PM
Yes, the thread is for the "Bicentenary Tower", not the "Rem Koolhaas design for Bicentenary Tower"

And So Hype it's correct, this tower is suspended, not cancelled.
I think it doesn't matter how is the design of the tower, I mean, if the design is from Rem Koolhaas or is other, it doesn't matter. In Mexico City there will be a tower called Bicentenary.

The Torre Bicentenarion was very interesting & original, but I'm afraid it was too angular, especially at the top...

That's a pity, would have been more than just a tower. Too bad then. I hope that a new project will take over from it.
