CdeO Port to be Modernized

The port of Cagayan de Oro will soon be modernized with the implementation of certain projects facilitated by Congressman Rufus B. Rodriguez of the 2nd District of Cagayan de Oro.

In a briefing held at the PPA conference room Rodriguez narrated that he wrote to PPA General Manager Atty Juan Sta Maria for the modernization of the passenger terminal building of the port and the birthing facilities of passenger boats to make the port a State-of-the-Art and of International Standards.

Plans for the project were prepared by then Engineering head Bong Butaslac who is now the Port Manager of Surigao.

“Originally the request was only for P80Million but what was approved was for P250Million,” Rodrigiez said.

Another project is for the paving of the newly completed back-up area forP71.269Million which has already started and will be fished by the 4th Quarter.

The plans for the Berthing Facilities and Breasting Dolphin is now being finalized and will soon be open for bidding.

The passenger terminal building will be a two storey structure and will have a seating capacity of 1,000. When completed, together with the Berthing Facilities, the passengers of ferry Boats will no longer go down to the pier area but will disembark through tubes and go directly to the terminal Building.

Construction for this modern Passenger Terminal Building is scheduled to start in the 3rd Quarter this year and will be finished by the 1st Quarter of 2013.

Rodriguez explained that the modernization of the Port of Cagayan de Oro is in harmony to the many project he has started in the city. The new set up at the pier area will allow cargo trucks and containers coming from the east side to enter the pier directly without having to pass the crowded and traffic laden streets of the city because of the coastal road that is already being built. The coastal road will end at the pier area and will continue on to te Punto-Kauswagan bridge.

He likewise revealed that the DOTC will be building a port at Laguindingan to accommodate a Fastcraft service between the airport and Cagayan de Oro and at the other side to Iligan.

“The funds for these various projects will not come from my congressional funds, Rodriguez explained. “It will come from the funds of the PPA and Isimply facilitated it by talking to the people in charge to be able to modernized the port and make it into something we Cagay-anons can be proud of,” he added.

The Port of Cagayan de Oro has generated an income of more than P180Million in 2010 with an operating expense of P54Million. The profits of the operations is forwarded to the Manila main office of which 50% of the total; income of the company is given to the national treasury while the other half is retained for capital expenditures and improvements.

The Philippine Ports Authority is a government owned corporation (GOCC) and is attached to the Department of Transportation and Communications.

Miyuki,yes, we are putting up the duck tours business there. In fact, the amphibian is already in the pier awaiting clearance. We expect to start the city and river cruise before the year ends. As for the cable car project, this will perhaps be in Dahilayan rather than in CDO. Regards to the Skyscraper forumers, paspas kaayo inyo mga spy..hehe...

The City Government of Cagayan de Oro is set to have the ground breaking of the two (2) flyover projects in the city namely, Carmen Flyover and Recto-Velez Flyover on June 15 in time for the city’s Charter Day celebration.

As shown in the perspectives of the said flyovers, the Carmen Flyover will rise specifically at the intersection of Masterson Avenue, Macanhan Road and Zayas Street with both uptown-bound and vice-versa taking the flyover.

Meanwhile, the Recto-Velez Flyover or simply the Licoan Flyover will rise at the city’s busiest intersection along the National Highway (CM Recto Ave.).
