Cabula road slip protection project now underway

A road slip protection project is now underway at Sitio Cabula, Lumbia, Cagayan de Oro City.

The formal groundbreaking for the contracted amount of P17.608 million was held last week led by 1st Dist. Cong. Benjo Benaldo, City Vice Mayor Ian Acenas and officials from the DPWH. The project is targeted for completion by November 17, 2011.

The project aims to protect this road section from further slips. Ongoing erosion due to the steep slopes, unstable soils, lack of vegetation and high rainfall has made this section vulnerable to slips. While there is still a possibility of further slips occurring, this project will prevent it from happening. Still, DPWH will closely monitor the area particularly in periods of heavy rain.

Concreting of Lumbia-Uguiaban by-pass road to be completed in August 2011

The concreting of the P2.213 million Lumbia-Uguiaban will be completed in August of this year.

The almost 500-meter long road serves as the alternate road from Lumbia going to Uguiaban via Dansolihon. The photos show the formal groundbreaking held a few months ago.

Widening of CDO Airport Road to be completed September 1, 2011

The ongoing widening of Cagayan de Oro-Airport road that is specifically located at Upper Balulang to Lumbia Road focuses on the road widening, construction of slope protection (rubble concrete), construction of drainage structures, and open canal with concrete cover and is expected to be finished on September 1, 2011.

This is the first infra project under the newly-created Cagayan de Oro First District Engineering Office which was started with a simple groundbreaking last May 28, 2011 with Congressman Benjo Benaldo and RD Norma U. Gironella.

The project has an appropriation of P20,000,000.00 and under contract with Alcel Construction. It has a contract amount of P17,350,696.65 and it has a contract time of One Hundred Twenty (120) calendar days. It started last May 5 and expected to be finished on September 1, 2011.

After its completion, the project will ease the traffic congestion at the area specially during peak hours of the day.

The project is under the 2010 DPWH Infra Program (locally funded) and is just released through the effort of Cagayan de Oro First District Congressman Benjo Benaldo.

In her report to Secretary Rogelio L. Singson, DPWH-Region 10 Director Norma U. Gironella said the ongoing construction of Cagayan de Oro 3rd Bridge’s access roads and coastal roads posted an actual accomplishment of 94.85% with a positive slippage of 0.060 %.

Director Ginorella said they are now focusing on the completion of Phase IX of Cagayan de Oro Bridge and Access Road Project. It comprises road concreting of Bayabas Section-West Bound Terminal-Iponan Bridge III Junction, Igpit,Opol National Road; road concreting along barangays Kauswagan and Bayabas, and graveling of coastal roads along barangays Lapasan and Gusa. The ongoing road concreting works has a total length of 14.423 km and a total cost of P642,824,622.51. “Upon its completion, the agricultural communities in the congressional districts of Cagayan De Oro and Misamis Oriental can immediately deliver their products to the market areas. It also serves as access road going to the Cagayan De Oro Port, and it connects the City Port Road in Puntod to the existing national road network in Opol, Misamis Oriental. It is expected to attract more investors and generate job opportunities in the area,” Gironella added. The entire Cagayan de Oro Bridge and Access Road Project has 12 phases. Majority of the phases (Phase I-VIII) are already complete.

Phase X will start this year after the release of funds needed for the construction of additional 620 linear meter coastal road along Barangay Gusa and construction of Kulambog Bridge along Kulambog, Lapasan, Cagayan de Oro City.

Phase XI of the project is programmed for implementation in CY 2012. It will be centered on the completion of the Cagayan de Oro Coastal By-pass Road, Junction J.R. Borja Extension and Gusa National Highway, the Rotonda at Barangay Puntod, and the construction of Bitan-ag Creek at Barangay Lapasan. When completed, this huge project will be an enormous help to the travelling public along Butuan-Cagayan-Iligan Road (BCIR) as heavy traffic congestion will be avoided. It is vital to the economic activities in Cagayan de Oro City and its neighboring cities and towns.
