Fresh updates of the proposed Tune Hotel along CM Recto Avenue revealed core drilling now underway at the project site near the Coca-Cola bottling plant.

The core drill is used to preserve the cylinder core sample which are vital in the foundation design of the building. The proposed hotel is initially to stand from 7 to 10 storeys high. The result of the soil analysis gives the needed information to the engineer.

It’s been a while since No. 33 of this series. This post covers updates of previously posted construction projects in Cagayan de Oro City starting with the 5-storey pension house along Tiano-Lun Streets shown above.

Last update was June 15, 2011. Photos show construction now on the 3rd level. This pension house project is owned by TGM Prime Estate Leasing and Devt. Corp. as shown in the tarpaulin onsite.

Next is the 4-storey dorm/pension house along Tomas Saco – 1st street shown below. Previous post was May 13, 2011. Owned by MMA Achiever Construction and Development, work is now on the 3rd floor.

Next on the list is the condo/apartment along 17th-6th street in Nazareth. Previous update was April 18, 2011. Major changes were noted that instead of having 6 floors, the building will just have 3 floors as shown. Progress is significant though with the building’s shape now obvious. This one is nearing completion.

The 4-storey pension by Abalos Golden Eagle Enterprises is also nearing completion. Previous update was April 18, 2011. Well, the building’s color is more vibrant than the one in the perspective. Painting the 4th floor seems to be next on the agenda. The adjacent commercial building was included in the development as shown.

PPA expanding and upgrading port facilities in CDO and Tacloban

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY, Philippines – The Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) is expanding and upgrading the port facilities in Cagayan de Oro and Tacloban cities and has completed the expansion of the port in Pulupandan in Negros Oriental.

“At this time, the current ports structure plan of PPA has put premium in pursuance of its mandate to provide the country’s sea travelling public with more efficient, appropriate and modern port facilities and equipment on our key ports or major gateways like the Cagayan de Oro (CDO) Port, which is the only major port serving the entire CDO and its neighboring provinces,” said PPA general manager Juan C. Sta. Ana in a statement.

“To date, the CDO port caters to an average of 1,200 passengers daily during regular, and 2,500 passengers daily on peak seasons,” said Sta. Ana, adding that “on vessel calls, the port receives seven vessels a day ranging from superferries, liners and tramping vessels.”

On cargo, the port averages around 12,500 TEUs (twenty-foot equivalent unit) every month. “In view of these considerations, the PPA has lined up a number of infrastructure projects that hopefully could be implemented in the medium term and which would allow the port to accommodate projected increase in port traffic.”

He said the PPA will pursue the implementation of the following individual projects at this port in the latter part of 2011 and 2012 to include the paving of around 20,500 square- meter newly developed operational back-up area to provide additional space for storage of container cargoes; the construction of a new two-story passenger terminal building (PTB) designed to accommodate 1,500 passengers at any given time, and the construction of three “roll-on, roll-off’ (RO-RO) berths that would accommodate large long-haul R0-R0 vessels of GRT ranging from 6,500 to 19,000 MT and with a minimum draft requirement of 7.0 meters.

On the other hand, the” Tacloban Port Improvement/Rehabilitation Project (TPIRP) involves the “expansion” of the existing wharf of the port. “This would require the installation of steel pipe sheet piles and waling (1,456 MT), rockworks (15,378 cu. m.), fill materials (37,544 cu. m.), and tie rods (14 sets of 32 mm x 18 m and 90 sets of 70 mm x 24 m). This port handles both foreign and domestic cargoes.

On the construction of the new wharf project at the port of Pulupandan in Negros Oriental, GM Sta. Ana said, “the revised contract amount is P411.2 million. The project was completed in 2005 during the previous administration , he said.

My take lang on the number of vehicles sa CDO: I don't know if I should be jumping with joy over the growing number of vehicles registered in the city kay kron pa man gud nanglihok sila sa mga flyovers ug bag-ong dalan nga duol sa syudad. Dapat unta many years back naandam nani tanan. Kahibaw ko nga daghan mga gipang himong dalan didto sa me macasandig/indahag areas kay mismo ako naka agi man ko aning mga dalana katong naa pako diha pero ang mga entry points leading to city center like the roads from the eastern (from puerto to gusa) and western (bulua to kauswagan) parts of the city, perte ka gagmay. Murag wa pa sad ko update sa coastal road. Ambot unsa na nahitabo ato. Sorry pro w kaayo nako ma feel nga naa long-term infra planning in preparation sa pag boom sa syudad...:ohno:

CAGAYAN de Oro City — Northern Mindanao (Region 10) has enjoyed a well-earned reputation as one of Mindanao’s regions with the better infrastructure network, but regional planners agree that much remains to be done.

During the recent Regional Development Forum facilitated by the National Economic and Development Authority Region X (NEDA-X), Engr. Modesto C. Babaylan, co-chair of the Regional Development Council Region X Infrastructure Committee, disclosed that most of the roads in the region remain gravel or dirt as of 2010, with almost 32.00 percent or 603.38 kilometers of the total arterial and secondary roads still unpaved and about 88 percent or 2,640.528 kms. of local provincial roads are still graveled or dirt roads.

“The overloading of existing strategic roads and bridges was also noted, as well as the worsening traffic congestions in major cities,” Mr. Babaylan said. “In the rural areas, farm-to-market roads are still inadequate.”

However, in its ranking of priorities, the InfraCom ranked the construction and rehabilitation of farm-to-market roads as most important.

Latest available figures from various government agencies presented by Tangub City mayor Philip T. Tan, chairperson of the RDC-X Macro Economic Committee, during the same forum show Agriculture, Fishery and Forestry (AFF), continues to lead the sectors in output growth with 4.2 percent growth; with industry second at 3.1 percent and services at 1.7 percent.

Other priorities for land transport ranked by the InfraCom included the paving of still unpaved national and local roads; improvement, rehabilitation and construction of necessary bridges along national and secondary roads; widening of strategic national roads to four (4) lanes; and the upgrading of national and local roads to address traffic congestion and safety in urban centers.

The 5-storey Medical Arts and Specialty Center Building of Maria Reyna Xavier University Hospital is now steadily rising.

As shown, construction is now going up to the 2nd level with concrete columns now leading up to the next floor. This project will open up another entrance to the medical facility this time from JR Borja Extension which is wider and less traffic than the main entrance along Hayes Street.

This project is a welcome development to the city where healthcare facilities are almost full and in dire need of more modern medical attention.

Here are latest photo updates of Gaisano Bulua. As shown, the large sign has been installed.

It’s now clear that this is another boxy design with main entrance at the ground floor perhaps popular fastfood chains will occupy the spaces fronting the highway. At the right is a large entry leading to the back where the parking area is located. Accordingly, some shops will be located in the ground floor and grocery. The department store will occupy the upper floors. Still, I believe this will be opened in the final quarter of this year.

BAGUIO CITY—A heavy downpour and the early evening chill in the summer capital on Friday failed to dampen the mood of President Aquino and guests during the ceremonial switch-on of energy-saving lights around iconic Burnham Park.
“We cannot bring back the glory days of Burnham [Park] but this is a good start,” the President told an audience drenched by the rain in front of the park’s skating rink.
“I talked to Bishop [Carlito] Cenzon a few months ago and [the deteriorating state of] Burnham was one of the issues we talked about. We have to get it to how it was,” he said of Baguio’s top attraction.
The retrofitting of the lights at Burnham and Wright parks entailed the replacement of 314 250-watt and 150-w mercury vapor lamps with 70-w high pressure sodium vapor lamps and compact fluorescent lamps, Department of Energy and city officials said.
They said the move would mean about P3 million in annual savings for the city government.
“It is a dream realized for the safety of Burnham Park. It is not yet the desired solar lamps but it is already efficient lighting,” said Cenzon. “The project not only covers Burnham Park but also Wright Park, which is more than we asked for.”
The President noted the enjoyment that Burnham Park offered to visitors and residents alike.
“I still remember Burnham Park’s glory days. I make it a point to visit the park, especially when I’m lonely. This park is beautiful and I appreciate the sights,” he said.
A statement from the Presidential Communications Operations Office said the Burnham Park lighting project was aimed at boosting tourism and raising public awareness on the use of energy-saving lights.
[B]The lighting ceremony was actually the launch of a much bigger project, the Philippine Energy Efficiency Project (PEEP) funded by the Asian Development Bank (ADB).
The PEEP, which would also be implemented in Cagayan de Oro City and Metro Manila, is expected to save the government more than P123.5 million in power consumption yearly.
Sohail Hasnie, ADB principal energy specialist, said changing the lights at Burnham and Wright parks would not only save the city P2.93 million a year but would also reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions amounting to 158,460 kg of carbon dioxide (CO2).
He said the retrofitting of lights in Cagayan de Oro City would help the city save P9 million a year and reduce GHG at 486,388 kg of CO2.
Hasnie also said the ADB would be retrofitting the traffic lights at 159 intersections and pedestrian lamps at 88 intersections in Metro Manila. The project, which would start in the last quarter of this year, would save Metro Manila P22.25 million and reduce 1.2 million kg of CO2, he added.

XU, Carmelite Missionaries sign deal for management of Manresa Tagbuan Center

Xavier University and the Carmelite Missionaries have signed a memorandum of agreement for the operation, management and administration of a formation and training facility located inside the Manresa Complex.

The Manresa Tagbuan Center, which is under the Research and Social Outreach Office, is composed of two multi-purpose buildings and four dormitories used for formation, training and similar activities primarily of Xavier University, but available to external clients as well.

The facility hopes to provide a venue for skill- and capacity-building, and a place for enhancing and deepening the social orientation and engagement of faculty and students as well as XU's partners in promoting the Greater Societal Engagement development goal of the university.

unta pud ma dayon jud ni ug tanan suga sa dalan ma ilisdan..dili lang kanang ginagmay ra ka portion tungod na kurakot ang budget para sa retrofitting

Sometimes, I really can't avoid but question why they're taking the construction of this flyover too long (6 months) compared to the other two flyovers being built in the city. I feel bad for Pryce Plaza.

The city can follow Marikina's way of beautifying river banks..
