Construction of river dikes at the back of St. Augustine Cathedral and at Sitio Calacala in Macasandig will soon start after the groundbreaking ceremonies was held last September 23, 2011 as part of the Cagayan de Oro City River Basin (CDOCRB) Project meant to protect from flooding.

Soft opening for Gaisano Bulua
Sep.27, 2011

http://www.cagayandeorodev.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/09/IMG_2631.jpg

Gaisano Bulua had its soft opening last Friday, September 23, 2011.

Cagayanons particularly living in the western part of the city and nearby municipalities flocked to the opening day which caused traffic in the area. The three level commercial establishment has a supermarket, department store, and appliance center but is still not completely finished as minor works were still being undertaken. Even the facade is still very bare as shown in the photos. So far the only available parking spaces are the ones located at the front and on the side access. The supposed parking in the back is still being developed. Meanwhile, other patrons utilized the parking area of De Oro Home Plus located across Gaisano.

http://www.cagayandeorodev.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/09/IMG_2633.jpg

One thing for sure is that this project will minimize shoppers in the area in going to the city proper. The newest branch is Gaisano’s 6th in the city after Gaisano Osmeña, Gaisano Cogon, Gaisano Carmen, Gaisano City-Mall, and Gaisano Suki Club.

DPWH to implement road widening, repair at Mambatangan
Sep.28, 2011

http://www.cagayandeorodev.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/09/MAM1.jpg

Cagayan de Oro Rep. Rufus B. Rodriguez and Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Regional Director Norma U. Gironella lead the capsule laying for the widening and road repair of Mambatangan Section of Sayrhe Highway in Barangay Puerto, Cagayan de Oro City. The increase in the number of vehicles in this highway has resulted to its deterioration. Its repair and widening would somehow appease the motoring public.

Housing complex promised to state agency employees

CAGAYAN DE ORO -- A residential development for employees of state-run Phividec Industrial Authority (PIA) is set to rise in Tagoloan, Misamis Oriental after the agency inked on Monday a deal with housing authorities. The PIA Employees Village will take up 2.9 hectares of the Phividec industrial estate with 125 lots set to be distributed.

The National Housing Authority will provide the technical assistance for site development while Pag-ibig Home Development Mutual Fund will lend funds to the beneficiaries for the construction of the houses on the industrial estate.

“Housing is one of our major concerns,” Elvira T. Garcia, president of the PIA Employees Union, said at the groundbreaking ceremony earlier this week.

“A number of employees have been renting at the Phividec’s staff houses for over 30 years now. Some have retired without owning a house while some have become informal settlers inside Phividec. We are looking forward to the completion of this project in two years,” she said.

Vice-President Jejomar C. Binay, who also chairs the Housing and Urban Development Coordinating Council for his part said the employees should do their part to ensure the project’s success.

“Beneficiaries have to fulfill their obligations, to pay the monthly amortization. Paying regularly would give a chance for others to access a similar housing project,” Mr. Binay said. -- Louise G. Dumas

PROJECT WATCH: XU CIT buildings update
Sep.30, 2011

http://www.cagayandeorodev.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/09/CITbuild.jpg

Xavier University (XU) marked the construction of two new buildings of the Center for Integrated Technologies (CIT) at the Manresa campus with a blessing and foundation laying ceremony on Sept 28.

The two new CIT buildings are part of a larger plan to develop Manresa as the new XU campus. The new structures will house classrooms, laboratories and workshops, canteen, library, auditorium and administration offices.

University Chaplain Rev Fr Calvin Poulin SJ, who presided the Blessing, remarked that the buildings being erected signify Xavier’s continuing service to the Church and the country. He acknowledged the expansion of CIT, which started out being a small vocational-technical school but has now grown to have its own complex in Manresa.

CIT is a technical unit of XU that aims to address the industrial needs of the region for competent technicians. It provides alternative education opportunities for students who favor more technical and practical skills.

Govt to spend P1 billion to widen road to new airport
Sep.30, 2011

http://www.cagayandeorodev.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/09/jhayz.jpg

THE Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) is preparing for a P1-billion road-widening project from Opol town to Laguindingan in Misamis Oriental.

DPWH regional director Norma Geronilla said government engineers were rushing plans and programs of work for the project.

The national government has reportedly set aside P1 billion for the project that would include the widening of bridges.

The project would start in early 2012 to complement the Laguindingan airport project as recommended by members of the sub-committee on infrastructure of the Regional Development Council.

The RDC sub-committee was concerned because the new airport would likely result in vehicular traffic congestions unless the road from Opol to Laguindingan iis widened.

"We hope to finish the construction in 2013 for the public to have comfortable travel and for travelers heading west to experience no hassle," Geronilla said.

Aside from the 24-kilo-meter road widening, the DPWH would also put in place five new parallel bridges.

Rep. Vincente Yevgeny Emano of the province's 2nd Dstrict said the DPWH informed him of the P1-billion budget for the road- and bridge-widening project. He said a road from Laguindingan to Lugait near Iligan would also be opened.
Emano said the government has also set aside P500 million for a new road to connect Bukidnon to the Mindanao International Container Port in Tagoloan.

PROJECT WATCH: Macanhan flyover now working on the approaches
Sep.30, 2011

http://www.cagayandeorodev.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/09/6192362928_3f59da6199_b.jpg

Work on the Macanhan flyover has now shifted on the approaches of both sides.

Accordingly, they are targetting the final week of October as project completion. But then again, completion is not the same as being passable as it would need a few more days for the infrastructure to settle down at least.

^^Aerotropolis in wiki definition is an urban form whose layout, infrastructure, and economy is centered on an airport, offering its businesses speedy connectivity to suppliers, customers, and enterprise partners worldwide. For Ayala "our view is that airports will shape business location and urban development in the 21st century just as highways, railroads and seaports have done in the past. | Company will focus on connectivity, tourism, and logistics...". I just hope so. the layout (irregular and too small stalls, fish and meat display tables are not systematic, passage ways for both customers and supply (especially containers of fish (banyeras) are one and the same which is hazardous and irritating, poor lighting, etc.) at the ground floor of both markets is based on the old demolished public markets. Hence, if these will not be changed the market would still be the same....

DPWH expedites Oro bridge access roads (http://www.goldstardailynews.com/northern-mindanao-%7C%7C-x/6299-dpwh-expedites-oro-bridge-access-roads.html)

The long-delayed construction of access roads leading to Cagayan de Oro third Bridge is now nearing completion. In her report to Secretary Rogelio L. Singson, DPWH-Region 10 Director Norma U. Gironella said the ongoing construction of Cagayan de Oro 3rd Bridge's access roads and coastal roads posted an actual accomplishment of 94.85% with a positive slippage of 0.060 %.

Director Ginorella said they are now focusing on the completion of Phase IX of Cagayan de Oro Bridge and Access Road Project.

The project comprises road concreting of Bayabas Section-West Bound Terminal-Iponan Bridge III Junction, Igpit, Opol National Road; road concreting along barangays Kauswagan and Bayabas, and graveling of coastal roads along barangays Lapasan and Gusa.

The ongoing road concreting works has a total length of 14.423 km and a total cost of P642,824,622.51.

"Upon its completion, the agricultural communities in the congressional districts of Cagayan De Oro and Misamis Oriental can immediately deliver their products to the market areas" Gironella said.

She added that the project also serves as access road going to the Cagayan De Oro Port, and it connects the city Port Road in Puntod to the existing national road network in Opol, Misamis Oriental and is expected to attract more investors and generate job opportunities in the area.

The entire Cagayan de Oro Bridge and Access Road Project has 12 phases. Majority of the phases (phase I-VIII) are already complete. Phase X will start this year after the release of funds needed for the construction of additional 620 linear meter coastal road along Barangay Gusa and construction of Kulambog Bridge along Kulambog, Lapasan, Cagayan de Oro City.

Phase XI of the project is programmed for implementation in CY 2012. It will be centered on the completion of the Cagayan de Oro Coastal By-pass Road, Junction J.R. Borja Extension and Gusa National Highway, the Rotonda at Barangay Puntod, and the construction of Bitan-ag Creek at Barangay Lapasan.

When completed, this huge project will be an enormous help to the travelling public along Butuan-Cagayan-Iligan Road (BCIR) as heavy traffic congestion will be avoided. It is vital to the economic activities in Cagayan de Oro City and its neighboring cities and towns.

OT: Hear! Hear! Banned for posting OTs? How many forumers have been doing that here? How many threads in all different cities and countries have posts that are OTs? Even casual, day to day conversations have it. It is almost unavoidable. And is it more reasonable to ban someone for posting OTs compared to those who have nothing good to say? This post is OT. Vertical construction now underway near Westbound Terminal
http://www.cagayandeorodev.com/?p=15083

http://www.cagayandeorodev.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/10/IMG_3093.jpg

There is now vertical construction at the site fronting the Bulua Public Market and Westbound Terminal Complex which I posted last August 30, 2011 (LINK).

As shown, drainage culverts and concrete footings are being installed with plenty of civil works ongoing. Information gathered onsite revealed this commercial complex project is that of Montecarlo Realty. Accordingly, this will house the Montecarlo Fish Landing area which was affected by the 3rd Bridge Access Road and additional stalls for the Vegetable Landing Area which ran out of space for stall locators. These establishments formerly occupied the area along Agora Road but where relocated at the said complex.

Vertical construction now underway near Westbound Terminal

http://www.cagayandeorodev.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/10/IMG_3093.jpg

PROJECT WATCH: Primavera Residences - Tower A as of October 10, 2011

Here are latest photo updates of Primavera Residences as of yesterday.

Like I said, construction is quicker with the tower crane with works now on the 7th floor. As shown in the photos below, one can have a beautiful view of the Cagayan de Oro River valley and perhaps the downtown area. The 10th floor (3 floors to go) will offer more views.

Recto-Velez flyover opens on Saturday

CAGAYAN DE ORO. The CM Recto-Licoan flyover will be opened to motorists after its formal inauguration and blessing on Saturday. (Joey P. Nacalaban)

Mayor Vicente Emano announced on Thursday that the flyover would be open to the travelling public right after the inauguration at 9:30 a.m.

Have something to report? Tell us in text, photos or videos.

Earlier, controversy hounded the flyover project after Emano promised it would be finished within 90 days, which contradicted with the statement of City Engineer Jorie Bingona who said it would be finished within 200 days.

Bingona’s statement has reportedly irked Emano, which caused his relieved from his post. He was replaced by Engineer Mario Batar.

However, UKC Builders Inc., the flyover’s contractor, failed to beat the 90-day deadline, though its officials have reportedly justified the extension. (Annabelle L. Ricalde)

City mulls underpasses at Kauswagan, Lapasan
Oct.14, 2011 in Construction, Proposal

The city government is mulling to build underpasses in Lapasan and Kauswagan.

City Mayor Vicente Emano stated that the plan is to build tunnels near SaveMore in Kauswagan and near Ororama Megacenter in Lapasan. Work on the proposal will soon start after the two current flyover projects in Carmen and Licoan will be formally opened to the public.

ha? why? isn't underpasses prone to floods? :(

Hope this underpasses in CDeO will push tru so as to catch the attention of city's flooding.

Misamis Oriental wins Gawad Pamana ng Lahi award

Saturday, October 15, 2011

THE Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) cited the Provincial Government of Misamis Oriental as the sole regional winner of the first Gawad Pamana ng Lahi Award in Northern Mindanao.

Provincial Board Member Jabi Bernaldez received the P3 million cash incentive in behalf of Governor Oscar S. Moreno and Vice Governor Norris C. Babiera during the formal awarding ceremony last October 11 at the PICC Plenary Hall of the CCP Complex in Manila.

Have something to report? Tell us in text, photos or videos.

“This prestigious award is presented by the DILG in keeping with its mandate on good governance, valuing the principles of transparency, accountability and performance as a strong foundation of a responsible government,” said DILG-Northern Mindanao Director Loreto T. Bhagwani.

The Gawad Pamana ng Lahi Award is a total award concept given annually starting 2011 that is conferred to all deserving local governments for their commendable performance in administrative governance, social governance, economic governance and environmental governance.

The criteria for the selection of the winner include the Seal of Good Housekeeping; a Local Government Performance Management System Overall Performance Index of 4.0–5.0; acknowledged innovations; and awards or distinctions received by the province in the previous year.

“This remarkable triumph of the Provincial Government of Misamis Oriental only shows to prove how an active leader and a competent working force can go hand-in-hand to achieve excellent performance, reaching a common goal of Good Governance for the benefit of all the people in Misamis Oriental,” Bhagwani said.

He added that this outstanding achievement has earned the province a graduation from the Seal of Good Housekeeping to the Seal of Good Governance.

Ponciano D. Caberte, DILG Misamis Oriental provincial director, said the province’s commendable performance in valuing the principles of transparency, accountability and inclusivity in local governance as well as its untiring efforts and dedication towards public service has paved the way in obtaining the said prestigious award.

Just recently, the DILG also awarded the Misamis Oriental Provincial Government the Seal of Good Housekeeping with a corresponding P7 million Performance Challenge Fund.

A ceremonial turnover of the award will be held on Monday during the flag raising ceremony.

Island to have new gateway
By CARLO SUERTE FELIPE
October 15, 2011, 8:01pm

MANILA, Philippines — Department of Transportation and Communications (DoTC) Secretary Mar A. Roxas II said by the end of 2012, a new gateway to Mindanao will be opened once the P7.8-billion Laguindingan international airport in Misamis Oriental is completed.

Roxas said the construction of the airport is currently ongoing with no delays so far. The airport will be the northern counterpart of the Davao International Airport, which is located in the southern part of Mindanao.

The project is funded by the Economic Development and Cooperation Fund of Korea, with a $30.60 million share; the Export Credit Loan Facility of the Korea Export-Import Bank (KEXIM), with a $62.75 million contribution; and the Philippine government with a $60.36 million counterpart fund.

Relatedly, the construction of the Air Navigation and Support Facilities is estimated to cost $13.38 million.

Upon completion, the Laguindingan Airport will be transferred to the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP).

The operation and maintenance contract of the terminal facilities will be bidded out to the private sector in the first quarter of 2012.

Languindingan Airport is one of four airport projects under the DoTC Greenfield Program. The other three airports are located in Bohol, Puerto Princesa, and New Legaspi.

Roxas said President Benigno S. Aquino III is currently interested on where to establish a new airport in Bohol — whether at the existing airport in Tagbilaran or at Panglao Island. The project’s estimated cost is P8 billion.

“The President wants to be frugal and cost-effective in using the people’s money. So he wants to determine whether it is better to expand the Tagbilaran airport by 700 meters versus building 2,500 meters in Panglao. The cost of the terminal is the same. The avionics will be the same. At the end of all of this, Bohol will get its modern facility," he said

Roxas explained that if the project would push through in Panglao island, the airport will have to be built from scratch. If it will be in Tagbilaran, the existing airport will be extended. The feasibility study on the project is said to be due this November.

On the other hand, the feasibility study on the P4.2 billion Puerto Princesa airport is expected to be completed by the end of the last quarter of this year. Through an Official Development Assistance (ODA) fund, Koreans have expressed willingness to fund the air and land components of the project. The $71 million cost will be payable over 40 years with an annual interest of 0.1 percent.

The proposed international airport in Legaspi is to replace the existing airport to maximize tourism potential of the beaches and whale-watching sites in Caramoan, Camarines Sur and Donsol, Sorsogon respectively. An ODA fund will finance the construction of facilities, runway, apron, and terminals.
