Heavy equipment now at rumored Chinese mall and condotel site

There is now heavy equipment at the site of the rumored Chinese mall and condotel at the corner of A. Luna and Capt. Vicente Roa Streets.

As shown, a field office has been set up also at the site. All makeshift structures within the said property were demolished over the weekend. In previous reports, the mall/condotel project will start if the creek (shown below) which traverses the property will be re-aligned along the road. This is what I had in mind when I saw the back hoe onsite.

PROJECT WATCH: Hotel Sogo’s yellow and red colors now appearing

Hotel Sogo’s trademark yellow and red colors are now appearing on the building’s facade.

As shown in the photos, the facade is now fully covered with metal claddings with the upper portion now revealing the said colors the hotel chain is known for. You can also notice delivery vans parked in front. These vans carry the hotel’s furniture and other fixtures currently being installed in the building.

not to offend but squatters should be put far away from the Heart of cdo. it would definitely be pleasant to our eyes and to the investors aswell. i hope someday the government would give the squatters a place to transfer.

There will be six outlets of the clothing store Uniqlo in the Philippines by August 2013, global Japanese retail firm Fast Retailing Co. said Wednesday.

According to Fast Retailing Philippines chief operating officer Katsumi Kubota in a press briefing at SM North Edsa, Uniqlo's continuous expansion is an affirmation of the firm's confidence in the Philippine market. He said the next expansions will have an average $1-million investment.

"We are right in our decision to come to the Philippines, which serves as the opening windows for Uniqlo in the ASEAN region," Kubota said.

Uniqlo will open its second outlet in Metro Manila on the second floor of SM North Edsa on Nov. 16. It will have 78 regular store associates, 42 seasonal associates and two store managers.

Kubota did not identify the next possible sites for expansion, but said these will be in Metro Manila. "We must have a very solid fundamentals in Metro Manila first before we expand in the provinces,' he said.

Kubota said sales of the first outlet at SM Mall of Asia recorded a 120-percent increase over their projected monthly target. He did not mention the sales value.

"We are happy with the results, which surpassed our expectations," he said. "We feel the acceptance of Filipinos for our products and we are happy to be here."

According to Kubota, Uniqlo's best sellers are jeans, T-shirts, and polo shirts. Although he did not divulge the amount, he said men's and women's wear had almost the equal value of sales.

Kubota said Fast Retailing considers Cebu, Davao, and Cagayan de Oro as potential sites for provincial expansions. He said the ambitious 50-store expansion in the Philippines within the next three years is achievable.

Uniqlo's first Philippine outlet, at the SM Mall of Asia, is located in a 1,550-square meter area and had a paid-in capital of approximately P400 million, or 720 million yen. It is Uniqlo's 12th store established outside Japan.

Uniqlo’s global expansion started in 2001 in London, and now includes stores in the United States, France, Russia, China, South Korea, Hong Kong and Taiwan.

With global sales of 820 billion yen for the 2011 fiscal year ending Aug. 31, 2011, Fast Retailing is the world’s fourth largest apparel retail company and its brand Uniqlo is Japan’s leading specialty retailer. — BM, GMA News

Improvement of Corrales Avenue along Centrio Mall now underway

The long awaited re-concreting of Corrales Avenue along Centrio Mall is now underway.

As shown, the main drainage lines are currently being constructed.

A section of the road has already been concreted as shown below. The new road pavement is now at level with the new paved curb along the mall.

Actually, this section is already concrete but badly needs improvement due to lack of drainage system with a significant road level flaw near the mall which has resulted to flooding during heavy rains.

The size of the drainage canals are the same with the recently completed drainage system along CM Recto Avenue.

This section across Cagayan de Oro Water District is still being surveyed and will soon be paved. Accordingly, the work is targetted for completion during or after the holidays or just before the scheduled opening of the mall.

Meanwhile, because of the concreting project, the city’s Roads and Traffic Administration (RTA) had started implementing the new traffic scheme along the major roads around Centrio Mall which is scheduled to open on November 9, 2012. Under the new scheme as shown below and as witnessed yesterday, Corrales Avenue is now a one-way northbound road from A. Luna to CM Recto Avenue. Southbound motorelas (Cogon and Divisoria) are not allowed anymore to use Corrales Avenue but instead are diverted to Gaabucayan and then Osmeña Extension southbound to Osmeña Street before turning right along Agudo Road and turning left along Capt. Vicente Roa, which is now also a one-way street from CM Recto to A. Luna. Click the image for larger view.

Robust Economy In South Projected

BUTUAN CITY – The economically stable cities of Butuan and Cagayan de Oro are expected to benefit from more economic activities in 2013, as both booming southern island cities are set to launch various business opportunities and economic services.

The city government here disclosed that some 13 private investments expected to enter this city next year.

This city also noted 14 projects that will be operational next year and beyond, and some of them include the improvements of the Bancasi (Butuan) National Airport, and the state-of-the-art Butuan Sports Tourism and Recreation (STAR) Gymnasium with a rubberized oval and a standard football field.

“More businesses are coming with their local counterparts as the country’s first-ever Public-Private Partnership (PPP) Code here is already being noted,” said a business expert and also one of the officials of the Butuan Chamber of Commerce here.

Next year, other projects and business investments are expected to generate 5,000 job opportunities for Butuanons, as the labor front here sees the upcoming prospect to benefit the people of the Caraga Region, especially this city.

As this developed, city officials here led by City Mayor Ferdinand M. Amante Jr. is eyeing a bigger budget for economic services next year.

While in Cagayan de Oro City, it is also setting up infrastructure programs owing to the burgeoning demand next year.

With this development, the city government of Cagayan de Oro had earmarked the amount of P422,076,151 for its economic services in 2013.

The amount is contained in the proposed 2013 executive budget submitted by Mayor Vicente Y. Emano to the 16th City Council headed by Vice Mayor Caesar Ian Acenas for review.

Out of the amount, P23,538,853 is allotted for agricultural services, while P20,151,412 is for veterinary services.

Cagayan de Oro river protection project updates

Here latest developments of the river protection project along Cagayan de Oro River.

As shown, there is now heavy equipment on the Macasandig side near Paseo del Rio and Kagay-an Bridge. I think the plan is to connect the existing dike…perhaps elevate it higher and connect to the existing retaining wall at the back of St. Augustine Cathedral.

Meanwhile, work on the Carmen side is ongoing and in revealed more progress than the one in Macasandig. As shown, sheet piles have been placed along the riverbank. This set up will mitigate possible scouring and erosion along the riverbank. After the sheet piles will be the concrete dike which will reclaim the area behind the piles and perhaps they should make it higher. This dike will also connect the existing dike (destroyed during Sendong) along Acacia Street and the one along Commission on Audit office.

Based on the latest report update by the Department of Transportation and Communications (DOTC) dated October 2012 but uploaded on the web just yesterday, the planned soft opening of Laguindingan Airport in January next year will use Visual Flight Rule (VFR).

By definition, Visual flight rules (VFR) are a set of regulations under which a pilot operates an aircraft in weather conditions generally clear enough to allow the pilot to see where the aircraft is going. Specifically, the weather must be better than basic VFR weather minima, i.e. in visual meteorological conditions (VMC), as specified in the rules of the relevant aviation authority. The pilot must be able to operate the aircraft with visual reference to the ground, and by visually avoiding obstructions and other aircraft.

She added that GMA will launch within two months its afternoon Serbisyong Totoo newscast.

Nilabay ko gabie velez st. kato bitawng rumored na Joliibee Store na atbang sa Marigold Hotel naay naka post na new tarp dadto ang its a 4-storey building... nice ang design.. can some take some pics? hehehemaka pic man ko pero galisud ko ug upload dani sa ssc. lol

..and Velez st sugod sa Polymedic to city central kay cool na kaau kay at least 6 storey ang mga building na nagtapad2... hopefully naay at least 10 storey sa velez...

The expansion building of Ororama Supercenter (Cogon) is now almost done as shown.

With new malls and shopping centers sprouting in the city, Ororama is not just about to throw in the hat. Afterall, it’s one of the homegrown companies which propelled the city’s economic growth. The new building at the corner of JR Borja and Mortola Streets is connected to the main building.

You are referring to GMA studio construction. yes it is obvious that it is not a priority. but if they want to expand their business and catch up with Kapamilya, they have no choice. Basin lupigan na gani sila sa TV5 which is owned by MVP.

The diversion is a pre-requisite for the development of the property into a mixed use mall and condotel as proposed. The original creek traversed the property in the middle that any development will have to make major adjustments on setbacks from the creek. The diversion will maximize the use of the lot for the proposed development.
