General Information

The MCT is a Flagship Project of Mindanao and it is one of the most important infrastructure needed to pump prime Mindanao Development.

Considering the existing capacity of the Cagayan de Oro Baseport which is only 1.8 Million Metric Tons, vis-a-vis increase in cargo volume which for year 2002 had actually reached 2.79 Million Metric Tons, the MCT can efficiently fill-in the supply gap for an efficient cargo handling facility.

The MCT, with its state of the art facilities and cargo handling equipment, unloads one container van in about 2.5 minutes as compared to the 10 minutes unloading in an ordinary port.

Thus with MCT, cargo can be efficiently shipped not only to and from PIE-MO, but also those coming in and out of the other places in Mindanao, into the Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines East-Asia Growth Area or the BIMP-EAGA Region, as well as the Asia-Pacific Region.

The total cost of the MCT is US$ 85.34 Million or its peso equivalent of about Php 3.24 Billion of this amount, 85% is funded by JBIC and 15% is financed by PIA. Its design and management during construction stage is by Pacific Consultants International (PCI), Japanese Contractor is Mitsubishi-Kawasaki-Toyo Joint Venture (MKT-JV).

The PHIVIDEC Industrial Estate and the Mindanao Container Terminal is strategically located and is the Gateway of Northern Mindanao to the rest of the world. Situated along the Macajalar Bay and within the PHIVIDEC Industrial Estate in Tagoloan, Misamis Oriental in Northern Mindanao, Philippines. It is about 20 kilometers northeast of the capital city of Cagayan de Oro and about 20 kilometers by sea from the Cagayan de Oro Base Port.

Not really... 2 baya na... The hotel and the annex, di ba? He! He! He! This is an old pic, if I'm not mistaken... The middle part of the hotel building has extended towards the pool area... Besides these building, there are 2 condo buildings... And, another big structure (100 room Casino Hotel) is in the pipeline, right? :-)

The Aboitiz group is pushing through with the expansion of its Mindanao coal- fired power facility, a top company official said.

Aboitiz Power Corp. president and CEO Erramon Aboitiz said “it’s something we continue to look at.” But Aboitiz admitted that it is re-assessing the cost of the expansion amid the impending impact of the global financial crisis.

“(We have to) look at the cost of plant,” the APC executive said, adding that another concern they have to consider is the prevailing rates in the Mindanao grid.

“Because the grid rate in Mindanao is P2.30 per kilowatthour (kwh) but we have to sell power at P4.50 and it’s difficult to sign up new contracts (because of the high rates),” he said.

Another major obstacle in the project, he said, is the electric cooperatives’ hesitance to enter into a long-term contract which may result in a bigger problem like power shortage in the area.” The problem is if they (ECs) don’t sign up, they might have shortage of power, the same thing with Cebu, now they have brownouts and the cost of power is more expensive,” he said.

He said the contracts with ECs will also determine the viability of the expansion project. ”So until we get at least 50 to 60 percent of plant capacity, we may be able to proceed with the project,” he said.

In the middle of last year, APC said it was willing to spend about $460 million to increase by 100 percent the capacity of its 232 megawatt (MW) Mindanao coal-fired power plant at the Phividec Industrial Estate in Misamis Oriental, Northern Mindanao.

APC bought a 34 percent share in STEAG State Power Inc., owner of the Mindanao coal facility from Evonik Industries AG for $91.9 million.

Ang ako nabantayan did2 ag sa Sunday kay naay Greenwich cart sa G/F. Daun gipangtrabaho na ang stall tapad sa the look og booksale. Sayang kau ka nindot sa mall. Hugaw man gud ang salog daun daghan gyud basura sa gawas. Unta naay city ordinance ang Iligan ga bawal magpataka og labay2. Regarding sa leaveland diay kay bagay gyud kau sa ang iya name. ICTSI gets BOI approval for Mindanao terminal (http://www.malaya.com.ph/jan21/ship0.htm)

The Board of Investments (BOI) has approved the P215-million investment of the International Container Terminal Services Inc. (ICTSI) for the operation and management of the Mindanao container terminal at the Phividec Industrial Authority (PIA) in Tagaloan, Misamis Oriental.

The project was approved in November last year but certificate of registration was just turned over yesterday.

The BOI granted the project a non-pioneer status, entitling ICTSI to four years in income tax holiday. Port operation falls under the infrastructure/logistics listing of the Investment Priorities Plan of 2008.

According to the BOI, entry of ICTSI in MCT would enhance its operations, which was used to be handled by the Philippine Ports Authority. The port will have access to the company’s funds, expertise and equipment.

The BOI said in the brief that this project will facilitate new business opportunities related to port operations beyond the conventional container maintenance and repair, pre-trip inspection, reefer monitoring, empty container depot services and other complimentary and ancilliary services.

The port operator formed Mindanao Container Terminal Services Inc. (MCTSI) to operate the port for a 25-year period after it won in a bidding last April. The company took over in June.

The Mindanao container terminal has a handling capacity of 270,000 twenty-foot-equivalent units.

The entry of MCTSI will enable the terminal realize its potential profitability and increase its cargo throughput from the current 81,000 TEUS to its full capacity of 355,000 TEUs.

With increased capacity, it could facilitate the flow of goods not only in the Cagayan de Oro-Iligan corridor but also to the proximate provinces in Visayas and Mindanao.

Commercial operations has started in January 2009 with 196 workers to be employed.

Phividec is approximately 20 kilometers from the city of Cagayan de Oro. It is the gateway of northern Mindanao to the rest of the world.

The MCT is a dedicated container terminal but non-containerized cargoes are also handled in the terminal.

Covering 24 hectares, the terminal has a length of 300 meters; two berthing positions and 13 meters of controlling depth. The container yard measures 9.4 hectares.

The terminal is equipped with radar system, which monitors the movements of incoming and outgoing ships in MCT. It has two Quay cranes and four rubber tired gantries.

Wa may labot ang mga Golezes sa Polymedic, Bai... Their relationship became sour a few years back... COC na ang naa tie-up with Polymedic... Liceo has a tie up with Cagayan de Oro Medical Center... :-)

Shaks, how did you know Cresente? Magkikita kami mamaya. sabihin ko sa kanya that you know him.

For those of you who do not know who cresente is, he's the guy on the extreme left photo wearing red sports shirt. He's a magna cum lauda grad of MSU-IIT with a course, BS Physics. He's now completing his Master's of Science (MS) at the same university and he hopes to get admitted at a prestigious physics school in the US or UK for PhD. Maybe our American friend, BoB, can provide some info on how to apply to a top US physics school. He's looking at Berkeley, MIT, Stanford, Caltech, and some state universities as fallback as he needs funding and most top physics schools admissions are quite stiff. I'm also trying to provide some tips to him on how to get into a top British university. Let's just hope that he gets admitted even at one of the schools he's eying at. He's such a very hardworking guy and very smart as well. Ang dami talagang masisipag na matalino sa MSU-IIT!

oh, yeah. Cresente is such a dancer. We go to the same church. He never was my classmate, actually. he went to Aurora (that's somewhere in Lanao del Norte, I think) for elementary and HS, then IIT for college. I went to la salle academy for elementary and high school and UP for college. we got acquainted only when i joined GCAM and that wasn't too long ago yet. I'll extend your regards to him. :) he's such a nice guy, btw. and a good dancer too. he dances modern, right?

I don't think airport lang kasi ang reason why they're putting up a hotel there. Almost every tourist loves white sand, snorkeling, and diving. I think that's the other reason why Club SOuth Pacific has decided to put up another hotel there.

There's only one at the moment, which is Albertos, a mid to high-end coffee shop. But from what I've gathered, there are only 2 vacant stall units available for lease out of 10 or so units on that area of the mall.

The modular for Red Ribbon and Greenwich Pizza stalls have already been ordered. Construction of these stores will start soon.

I think they have similarities on certain touches such as the design of posts which is rounded, the silver metal touches, the nickle balusters, the mala-hotel atrium, the placement of elevators and staircases, ceiling design, and so on, but the general layout of the mall is different between the two due to different stages of construction. While Gaisano Iligan was built all at once as you can observe from its harmonious layout, the one in Cagayan de Oro was actually a product of different construction phases and its interior design reflects the many transition trademarks of Gaisano malls/stores through the years.

I'm not particularly a huge fun of Gaisano architecture, but I'll make this one in Iligan an exemption. Biases aside, this mall will really blow all Gaisano malls away when it comes to size, budget, location, quality of materials used, rendering of plans and the general structural design. Though I would admit that I still prefer SM malls layout despite its "warehouse" like exterior. I thought the edge goes to SM for having a much finer rendering of plans and installation of materials. SM malls concentrate on interior rather than exterior. The contractors are to be blamed here, I suppose.

I really can't say at the moment, but I will ask why is that. I also presumed that Red Ribbon will use it as it's design is sort of a "walk through" outlet. I think they would keep that door but will have to be incorporated with the store design. There has to be an entry-exit point in that area to ease the congestion especially once the cinemas will be opened.

Regarding the cinemas, I just found out that the silver screens have not yet arrived. I was told they have to be ordered from the States. And so are the chairs. But all the rest are already in placed. I should have taken photos of them when I had the chance to do it. What a waste! :D

Baka may access ka doon Iliganon Boy. Picture mo rin at ipost mo dito. :)

the good thing about this project is it has a marina, the resort's proximity to Camiguin Island, Bohol and Cebu plus the Laguindingan Airport of International standards will make it more realized. Bohol and Cebu have marinas so club members on those marinas can easily jump off to Club South and do their snorkelling and diving adventure. :cheers:

so you mean mas bigger pa ni kaysa sa Gmall CDO? (not including Gaisano city CDO)
