this tower's not even 200m to roof, but the huge spire makes it rank higher than rialto which is 251m to roof.... To roof, it's currently Australia's 11th tallest building but 2nd tallest to spire...

The spire looks really cool at night, as it shifts colour from red to green to blue etc showing every colour of the spectrum...

7.5/10 - it's still a box with a spire, but without the spire it's just another one of those ~190m Collins St buildings and would be another one of the boring ones in the background of 1st pic

also if you brought a sleeping bag + tent you could actually live on the spire :) unlike other poles

Wow, I never knew the base had that tacky entrance! Those columns look ridiculous. Additionally I'm not a fan of horizontal glazing bands. I do like the centrally placed antenna though.

Looks good in the skyline but otherwise it lacks interest for me. Once again it may be a tower I have to visit to appreciate.

5/10 my ass!! Danin you havent been here at nighttime and seen the rainbow of colours lighting up the spire every minute or so..

As tays says.. one of the worlds sexiest boxes not to mention one of the best aging modern towers in the world (still looks brand new after 11 years)

I like most of this building, but I think they should have done something different with the roof - maybe some setbacks. In those first three pics posted by Raffles, it looks too much like a standard box with the spire kind of thrown on as an afterthought. That first pic from Tays looks great though, not like a box at all. Overall, 7.5/10

7.5 - The tower is a bit boxy, but not at all bad; it has a good, sleek blend of glass and stone, and the butresses on each side are really nice. It might take to the sky even better, though, if it were a bit slimmer, had a few setbacks above the base, and had some more setbacks of stone, not that white whatever it is, between the roof and the spires.
I would have rated it higher, perhaps an 8.5, if it weren't for that base, especially the entrance, which looks cheap and poorly put together, unworthy of the tower. And did someone deliver those ridiculous columns to the wrong construction site, and forget to pick them back up? Talk about out of place....

i think that the spire just doesn't quite fit with the building. it's a bit too tall for a building that size. but the rest of the building's quite nice.

I watched 101 & 120 every lunch-time while they rose: certainly the facing on 101 is better. 120 wins for its profile overall. Columns out front which support nothing ... what do they mean?

Never-the-less, 101 & 120 are sisters: not in the way that the buildings in New York were, because they're genuinely different, but still intimately related.

Whenever this parity is broken, the skyline of Melbourne will have really changed.

Mostly succeeds at "not looking bad". Doesnt not succeed in looking all that good. They played it safe, although the lower levels, especially the enterance, are miserable. I like its straight smooth lines, except I do not like those things up the middle, and how they change half way. The antennae was done well. I do not like them on buildings, but I understand they have to be there, and this one does a good job with it.

Biggest problem with 101 is that it's too short - would look spectacular if it was 50 metres taller. Same with Melbourne Central.

101 doesn't deserve to be 50m taller than 120, and would look lousy if it was. Re proportions: if it were thinner, would that achieve the same effect? As for Melbourne Central, what are you measuring it against?

I love it because it is just as grouse as Melbourne, and it is always in the background shots when they show the one day cricket from the MCG. And it isnt a bad looking building, on top of those other factors.
