Hello . I noticed that the HDB blocks beside Kallang MRT Stn are being demolished . Ex Residents from these blocks used to being able to see the fireworks during the NDP (esp the one facing the MRT stn. ) from the stadium .

But now they are being demolished . I took some pics as well . Can i post them here?

( Note : Note the old fire station in the middle . Should be a fire station , i once saw some fire engines coming from that building . I think the building will be left untouched . If not , the building would have been the first to go .)

The iconic old Kallang buildings are going to be turned into history , just like the equally famous Outram HDB aka rainbow HDB . :ohno:

Thanks for those pics. Its a pity that theyre now covered up with scaffolding and demolition is already underway.

I did manage to go up those blocks several times, they have quite a nice view of the skyline.

SERS have destroyed several iconic HDB places . 2 examples would be Outram HDB aka Rainbow HDBs , another would be Hillview Avenue . The Outram HDB is famous for its distinctive colourful rainbow colours . Outram HDBs are also one of the earliest built HDB flats.

Hillview Avenue is rather famous for its tasty food . Some say Yong Tau Foo , some say Curry Fish head . But I would say Roti Prata . :banana2:

Why don't they just sell the whole plot of land to a developers to turn them into another bugis junction. office, shopping, hotel , residential. The four buildings surrounding and the centre fire stations are already made for that. The developers could just amend a bit of here and there.

Actually the location is really prime waterfront

The building in the middle was not a fire station. It was just a cluster of single-storey warehouses where companies rented space to store foodstuff and textiles. One of the warehouses was a discount goods sales centre aka "close-down sale" where they sell all kinds of cheap goods from China and surplus items. I was window-shopping there some years back before they closed.

Thx for correcting me .:)

Do you think they will tear down the warehouse as well ?

Welcome.

I think they would tear down the warehouses after they are done with the demolition of the 3-room HDB blocks. The Master Plan 2003 shows the whole plot is designated for residential purposes so I don't think commercial or warehousing activities would be in that area anymore. Like RC said, it is prime waterfront land so the future HDB flats or condos there might be quite expensive, using waterfront living as a concept.

Is it FH or LH? If it is FH, then chances are, prices are going to be somewhat like Riverine by the Park.

If its to be sold on the government land sales programme, most likely will be 99 year.

Government is shrewd.

not "most likely". confirmed L99. URA/HDB/SLA cannot sell FH land. It is against the law.

Govt shrewd or not, I dont know. Land Acquistion Act confirmed 'chow kuan'

Those cluster of flats are addressed in Geylang Lor 1, not Kallang, though its distance to Kallang MRT.

There used to be an interesting mix of residential, commercial and light industrial activities going around. Residents moved oout gradually 3 to 4 years ago and most of them were offered new apartments across the road.

As someone mentioned earlier, the building in the middle of the cluster are used for storage and light industry purposes. More of a fire hazard rather than a fire station. If you see fire engines pulling out from the building, probably they just finished fighting fire inside.

Personally, I don't find the apartments iconic in anyway. For the waterfront, unless they clean it up, its filthy as hell. They caught some crocs in there many many years ago.

Odd to have warehouses in such a location

There are even more warehouses further up the Kallang River so its nothing odd.

The whole Kallang Basin area was full of shipyards, repair facilities and berths, something like what Tanjong Rhu was. After the Govt cleaned up the whole area together with Singapore River, the resultant swampy land was filled up and Kallang River canalised. The shipyards are the remnants of its "smelly" past. :)

Won't it be ultra cool to convert those into lofts as they have done elsewhere in the world?

btw Scania, where was the first pic taken from? It seems like you can get a good view of skyline from there?

Can say so bah. I took it from the replacement flats , just across the street . Hmm , but the design of the corridor only allows restricted space of shooting the old HDBs , as in even the best position to take the pics isnt even a good spot at all , very hard to take a nice view of all the HDB. Some of the other shots were taken from the car park roof next to the new HDB flat's coffeeshop.

Hey thanks for that pic! I have yet to get a pic of the last block. Now all buildings are gone, including the warehouse. Grass and trees now dotted the landscape.

Thats nice, it can be used as an interim green by the waterfront pending development :)

After they demolished the 2 old HDB blocks at Short Street, the land is now turfed over with grass, and ironically makes the cityscape look softer, and does not block the view of the new LaSalle school from the main road.
