snomad March 31st, 2012, 04:47 PM Just a quick question guys, why is Djibouti a sub-forum for Ethiopia forum? Admins should correct this by placing Djibouti under East Africa Section, don't you think?

Yh doesnt make sense. Is it really that hard to move Djibouti to East Africa :?
Ras Siyan April 2nd, 2012, 06:14 PM ^Looks like Djibouti forumers are quite happy with it.:)
Yes we are...Let me clarify this for once, there are no other implications with Djibouti being a sub-section under the Ethiopian section, there really isn't any need to politicize everything. The Ethiopian forumers when restructuring their section proposed if we wanted a sub-section and we said yes. It would have been the same whether it was with a Somalia or Eritrea section...Besides, having this will make it easier for us to have our very own section when traffic increases. You would help us a lot by often visiting this section and help us increase activity so that we can move to have our own section one day. There are only 4 Djiboutian forumers here, so we need your participation, that is if you are honest about your desire to help us have our own section.
Mahadsanid, now let's get back to the topic at hand.

Djibouti. Jib-BOO-tee. Ever heard of it? Not many people have; even fewer have the vaguest idea where it is. For those in the know, that's part of its allure; they have the country all to themselves.
Tiny Djibouti is a small nation wedged between Eritrea to the north, Somalia to the southeast, Ethiopia to the west and south. To the northeast is the Gulf Of Aden, which links the Red Sea and the Arabian Sea and the Indian Ocean; it is this connection to the water that provides Djibouti with its main sources of income-namely, serving as a transshipment point for the entire economy of Ethiopia as well as a strategically convenient observation deck for several nations maintaining a military presence here in order to watch over the movement of petroleum through the shipping lanes, the movement of Somali pirates across the same, and the movement of assorted other entities in what is admittedly a volatile region of the world. Djibouti, however, is an oasis of calm and stability; no one wants to mess with a resourceless country that counts the world's superpowers among its defenders.
With few air connections to the outside world, tourists in Djibouti are thin on the ground. The sea once again acts as a magnet; visitors who do come rave about the excellent diving opportunities in the exceptionally clear waters of the Gulf Of Aden and the rare chance to dive next to one of the largest fishes in the world, the whale shark. A boat trip to Moucha Islands is a must even for nondivers, who can enjoy the beach and the quietude while counting the shades of blue and green in the water from the comfort of a chaise longue.
Direct from the private jetty of Djibouti Palace Kempinski, boat excursions to Moucha Islands, a small group of islets in Djibouti's Gulf Of Tadjoura, bring the country's brilliantly colourful marine life to the doorstep of Kempinski guests. Well organised and highly professional, Djibouti Divers employs a team of experienced-and entertaining-instructors to accompany divers to the dive sites and to walk novices through the basics of their first dive-their 'baptism' as it is called in French. Even people who have never gone past snorkelling will be tempted by the diversity, number, and colour of the fish. Djibouti is famous among the world's diving community for the opportunities the country offers to dive with those whale sharks, peaceful creatures whose name belies their gentle behaviour; the whale sharks are usually in residence in Djiboutian waters from November to February, but dives at other times of the year will still not leave admirers of marine life disappointed.
For more information on the surprising attractions of this little-known country, have a look at K Guide Djibouti. For flight information, visit the website of flydubai. flydubai, based at Dubai International Airport, offers daily flights to Djibouti from Dubai, putting Djibouti only one stop away from the world's major cities and bringing easy access to one of the points in Africa nearest the Asia-Pacific region. Looking for an African adventure without the extra hours of flying time? Look no further than Djibouti-and fly no further, either.

With all theses developments happening next to balbala. It seems the fun is moving away from downtown :D

If you have money, then people will respect ya, i mean you will be treated as a tourist, even better you might get some things for free, if not then youre just another ethiopian, worse you will have to watch your backs and make sure not to enter the wrong zones without protection. This is not different from any other country so the choice is yours. Ive lived in ethiopia for about a month in a very poor neighborhood where the english embassy is located. I husstled my way out to the west from there. My next addis trip, Ill make sure my pocket is damn green so i spare myself the hardship and enjoy the good sides of the city. :)
Best advice, see it for yourself. Enjoy and learn from your experiences.
