Everything's gone green in the brotherhood of New Order. I'm still in shellshock at this news. Seems the group were ruined in a day. Must have been a blue monday for Hooky!

Do you think it's a fine time for them to call it a day, or do you have true faith that they will sort it out with a perfect kiss?

Maybe they are just waiting for the sirens call and Gillian Gilbert will come back to sort out all the confusion.

Anyway, erm, I'm gonna stop now.

I'll keep my response short at this time of night so don't expect an avalanche of opinion from me to set the world in motion because my concentration is low -- in fact I regret to say it's at vanishing point.

Etc.

It's a pity but frankly their output has been patchy since about 1993. Republic was their last really good album (in my opinion -- some people would even dispute this), even though their later stuff is still classy; it's just not as stratospheric as their 1980s material. Whatever happens, whether or not they choose to carry on minus their talismanic bass player, they can all retire with legendary status.

Yeah. I agree they could never repeat the sonic shock of their early stuff, but I reckon they made a better fist than most of keeping their innovative qualities and bringing out consistently great records. Even their latest stuff is better than 20 ploddy schmindie NME bands put together.

They are without question one of Manchesters finest exports. A truly global, cult band (and brand - thanks in no small part to Peter Saville). They are absolutely massive in places like South America and Australia, and many other territories that bands like The Stone Roses (great as they were) never reached, and as you say, their legendary status is assured.
