This is a quality high rise, not doubt about that. The use of masonry cladding is something that goes back to earliest times and will never be dated as some have suggested, if anything glass buildings are somewhat dated as they are reminiscent of the 1960's when it first became fashionable and that decade along with the next produced some of the ugliest bastards ever created. (though not always in glass)

The central scaffolding has been dismantled - so Tower 185 should be topped out indeed.
Cladding now right below last regular slab level.

Haha, well thats peoples different opinions. I'm personally not a huge fan of pure glass structures and the shard does not impress me in terms of height or architecture either. Maybe it's because my office is just next to it and I see it everyday, but I think thats not the case since I pass Tower42 every day too and can't stop looking. I'm a fan of architecture from the 60-80's, having said that I think Tower185 does look classy due to the glass cladding at the front of the tower.

It's interesting to compare recent skyscrapers in different european countries. Whereas in Paris, for istance, they really are looking for extreme and sometimes weird shapes, in Frankfurt they seem to stick to the classic style. I generally like classic towers more than super extreme designs, but maybe this is becoming a little bit redundant in Frankfurt, and maybe in Rotterdam too. I think there can be a third way between Tour Phare in Paris (which i don't like) and this one. I like when they mix glass cladding with the normal one, or when they build classic-cladded towers with interesting shapes like Turning Torso in Malmo.

The highrise part is bland, boring. The lowrise part does have some merits.

Tower turned out to look great from it's entrance. From the side it feels a bit dated...

Messeturm for istance looks way more modern and elegant in the picture posted above

Reasonable tower. Frankfurt needs to step its game on attractive modern architecture. Germany has a handicap of not building very attractive modern towers.

Agreed, these feak distorted 'scrapers in other cities will become dated very soon, Frankfurt generally seems to go for quality which can only enhance the city. To quote the great Oscar Wilde: "It never pays to be too modern, you become old fashioned very quickly"

Just love that almost "neo-classical" base, no cheap and nasty gimmicks here that will date in no time at all.

Wow, T185 looks like a simple filler among these two glassy towers. Are there any chances of seeing them built?

BTW, Today's Frankfurt's skyline is the most impressive in Europe (EU + Russia +...). Aerial pictures of the city don't look that great though. It's because the skyscrapers are scattered across the city. Downtown area needs a lot of new high-rise buildings to increase its density.
