Hey, this thread is for posting youtube links of classical Asian music performances

These include styles such as Hindustani, Carnatic, Gagaku, etc.

Ill start it off with a shortened video by Ustad Vilayat Khan playing in the Hindustani style

He is playing a solo, the rest is cut off for some reason...

Here is an example of carnatic classical - a group of musicians playing the composition of Lalgudi Jayaraman, Varnam.

You should know how much I like this shamisen song:

09vfa4vuHFY

Btw the other instrument is the wadaiko, a modification of the traditional taiko

Also, I am going to see this trio of artists when they visit Toronto on the 24th of August

Father and son Shivkumar and Rahul Sharma (santoor) and Zakir Hussain (tabla)

VldKoqgDvoI

The Chinese instrument seems to resemble the sarod

hobK_8bIDvk

But the playing style more resembles that of a sitar

4JjrWxun46M

Btw the sarod player is Ust. Ali Akhbar Khan while the sitarist is Pt Ravi Shankar

Sounds great. I especially like the first one - from Aceh. Has that region fully recovered from the tsunami (it was the worst hit, i think)?

It sounds great!
