That is where Velencia fans will jump to their death after loosing to who ever they play. A bulldozer will then come along and push away the dead fans where they will be ground up for hot dogs and hamburgers for the stadium.

There is much debate about the current state of the stadium. Some say it has been damaged; others that it is fine. Does anyone know - definitively - whether or not parts will have to be redone when construction begins again? Or will Valencia discover in ten years that it's falling down?

2 years paused !!

I don't understand the club. It has the money to buy a few players (with no return on investment guarantee) while it can't finish the stadium even if it looks almost done. IMHO, the ROI is safer with a stadium Vs a player (injuries, adaptation difficulties...)

It's just the opposite. The club has sold its best players in recent years: Villa, Silva, Albiol, Mata, etc, and lowered the cost of the team.

i still doubt about this project when you know that spanish government has to insure financial markets that they will reduce the expenses etc...
Even in the private economic sphere it 'll affect the demand.

If spain is downgraded again the interest rates will rise and this stadium cost will rise again.

When you know that Liga has a loss of 4 billions € i wonder if some people realize those things.

Pragmatus
April 7th, 2012, 01:07 PM
Sure, but it would be worse to give up definitly this project, considering what is already done (and paid).

If no solution is found, I won't be surprised to see Valencia FC being bought by rich investors...

Axelferis
April 7th, 2012, 01:27 PM
perhaps!

I think it's a good target for investors if the stadium project goes to the final stone.

A anti barcelaona/real paradigm is possible to built here with financial fair play coming.

I think valencia could see a bright future if they are took over like malaga.

i don't have time to make a lesson on economic but you have to know that when a government is expected to take major decisions, it affects global demand. The banks which are a major economic actor
will release less credits to domestic agents . The demand is affected because you can't produce the same level of credits when you have less people and firms to meet standards to get them.

Then you have a slowdown (it is the case) of your economy and the relevance of doing certain projetcs is not accurated.

To summarize : spain has another things to do right now than building stadiums ;)

Plus a lot of clubs are in danger with unpaid wages. in 2 years this liga could seriously collapse if the country continues to looks like the future "Giant greece"

And you know that if spain collapse it's all euro zone which is dead this time because Europe gave so much money for greece that it's impossible to make it for spain.

then i would be very cautious about the future of valencia project.

We've heard of 'ghost ships' and 'ghost towns', but now we can add 'ghost stadium' to describe this dead construction site. It is such a surreal sight considering that the stadium is surrounded by a modern, well-populated city in one of the greatest countries in the world. Then again, going by what I've read in this thread, Valencia took a huge gamble with this project and the recession never did anyone any favours either (aside from investment bankers, of course).

I won't be popular for saying this, but I quite like it without the roof shown in the renders. Does anyone know how many more years/ months were needed to finish the stadium when they stopped? Also, are there any proposals to postpone the original plans and just get the bare essentials done so they can open the stadium and put punters in seats ASAP? Or when construction restarts are they just going to finish it as per the initial specification?

Axelferis
April 28th, 2012, 11:16 PM
This stadium has no future until spain is in crisis.
All financial specialists know that spain is high chances to be the new Greece sorry for our dear spanish friends :| . I love spain but the reality is i read that even some guaranty due to the social position of Royal family member is not enough to get a credit.

I sincerely doubt of this project . I was optimistic due to anacleta comments and others memebers but the downgrading change everything now.

I'm sure that this stadium won't restart this year.

Well it is a great shame not to finish this stadium! The only thing that will happen now is that when will read the bottom line will are likely to see some astronomic number! One thing though, if they finish it and by finish it I mean manage to make functional enough to be used - with or without the glorious cladding and all the fancy amenities. Then this stadium could start paying for itself... I don't think people will pack it every second week end but it could start generating a few jobs and a little money... Both things will be needed I believe!

ok here's a link to the website insidespanishfootball.com
http://www.insidespanishfootball.com/spain-to-present-debt-elimination-plan/

and here is the text featured in the link:

Newly appointed Secretary of State, Miguel Cardenal, stated the plan would be officially be presented next Wednesday: “It is not possible to say all the professional teams have outstanding debts with the tax authorities,” Cardenal said at a Europa Press event in Madrid.

“Those that do, for the most part, have their debts sorted out into payment plans with conditions, just like any other Spanish business might do,” he added.

“Over the last few weeks the (government) and the LFP have had meetings and they have reached their conclusion. We hope (the plan) will put a break on the growth of this debt and that it will disappear in a few years. Probably by 2020 this problem will have been effectively resolved.”

Cardenal went on to say that as of last month, clubs owed around an addition €600 million to the social security system. The government is desperate to eliminate the looming tax debts due to tightening fiscal policies from the European Union.

“This wasn’t a negotiation, because there was absolutely no resistance on the part of the LFP and they want to correct the situation as well, the league aren’t happy with this situation because it affects the fairness of the competition and their reputation and image,” he added.

It is Spain’s worst kept secret that many clubs have slipped further into debt as the operating costs, transfer dues, and player wages continue to increase in one of the worst financial crisis to date.

A University of Barcelona account professor recently showed that the 20 clubs in Spain’s Primera Division have seen their combined debts reach €3.53 billion Euros at the end of last season, a €3.43 billion increase from last season. Combined with the €550 million owed by the 22 teams in the second tier, Spanish professional football’s debt as swelled to an astronomical €4 billion.

Even the richest clubs have been effected as both Real Madrid and Barcelona, have debts of €600 million, Atletico Madrid €500 million, and Valencia almost € 400 million.

The good thing about the spanish football debt story is that because Spanish football is so dominant, it is very highly documented... Actually if one uses google, he will find pieces on the topic on asian, australian, american and african news websites and there's no need to go into the sports section! The numbers shown above appear to be pretty accurate that's why I picked this article....
