Truely amazing!

It frightens me that it's going to cost the same as the new Lansdowne Road and yet is superior and larger in every possible way.

Pretty damn cool, but why do you think its the best in the world. Thats a serious question, not sarcasm.

Looks a lot like the new Arizona Cardinals stadium.

You can only define the best stadium in the world by the one that has the best facilites. You can speculate all you want on the best looking stadium or the one with the best atmosphere, but you will never get a true final answer as it's down to individual opinion. So until we actually know what the detailed specifications of the stadium are, who can say?

Neda Say

Ok that stadium is just the best design I 've seen in years for a stadium. However isn't it suppose to house an athletic track in order to welcome the Valencia track and field championship bid. But what I like the most is the price!!! Now I don't believe that you can do a 75000 seater for that little or is spanish workforce really that cheap!?
Anyway this thing is just stunning

The Stadium has been made with the assembly of 16 pieces that symbolize all the districts of our city (see the videos). The "cut" that crosses the pieces (districts) is the Turia river.

I don't know if it's going to be the best. But on paper this is just mind blowing. I hate to use words like that but it really is a "sexy" stadium. There is a spanish design in this thing that no recently build stadium has, even the very slick stadium build for the germany world cup or the most recent nfl stadium do not match it in terms of design on rendering I've seen only one stadium looking that good and it is the Beijing olympic stadium.

That stadium is not just a stadium it's a statement from Valencia and what a statement this is!

300 million Euros is a lot (at least for European standards...I know that some American stadiums cost more). All German wc stadiums for example cost less (including the Allianz Arena).

:ohno:

Say me any football (not Olympic or athletic) stadium in Europe, that cost more

Gelsenkirchen: 191.000.000€ for 52.000. 3.673€/p
Munich: 280.000.000€ for 66.000. 4.200€/p
Frankfurt: 126.000.000€ for 48.000. 2.600€/p
Hamburgo: 97.000.000€ for 55.000. 1.800€/p
Leipzig: 91.000.000€ for 43.000. 2.100€/p
JOSE ALVALADE (Lisboa) 80.000.000€ for 52.000. 1.500€/p
DO DRAGAO (Oporto) 98.000.000€ for 52.000. 1.888€/p
ESTADIO DE LA LUZ (Lisboa) 119.000.000€ for 65.000. 1.800€/p
Saint Dennis, Paris 426.000.000$- 331.000.000€ for 80.000. 4.100€/p
New Wembley, London. 1.000.000.000€ for 90.000. 11.000€/p, but this include not only the stadium, and this is NOT a FOOTBALL stadium. And of course, London is London.

Mestalla: 300.000.000€ for 75.000. 4.000€/p

Only Munich and Saint Dennis cost more. And only about 200€/p

385.000.000 $

November 13th, 2006, 04:59 AM
If that's all it costs, it won't be super duper super inside. That could be a refreshing lack of 10 billion suites or just decent concources. Also lacks any retractable roof, so that keeps costs down. Does it still have the elevating floor. Don't know if it will be the best, but its certainly the best looking

Really shit I think you are gonna find a lot of pissed off English people when they go there and people are playing Eton fives.

Wembley IS a football stadium, it is just going to be used for other sports such as Rugby League and perhaps athletics if London bids for the world athletics championships.

Neda Say
November 13th, 2006, 08:13 PM
Wait a minute guys; 300 M for a 75000 seater is a total deal.
Allianz arena 340 in the current config the average to get that now.
Wembley is wembley and london is london fair enough
The Emirates stadium is around 390 M Pounds Lyon new arena around 500 M euros and these two are or are going to be 60000 seater.
Most world cup 2006 are also an incredible deals but you have to consider the fact that the deals were signed 5 years ago on average.
The first decent NFL arena is cost a minimum of 700 USD and generally land aquisition is way cheaper

4000 a seat in 2006 is an absolute deal especially since it's located downtown! not 10km away from the first urban area.

The design doesn't look cheap either this is all the way up there in my ranking. 4000 a seat well on rendering it worths every penny!

Viva Valencia!

Enzo911
November 13th, 2006, 10:17 PM
Yes, I also think that the real cost will be more than 400m €
In Valencia we have a lot of examples of this:
Palau de les Arts (1995-2005) was estimated in approximately 150 m€, and finally it costs more than 400m €

But my question is, what does this design still have to do with the original design?

No, but if it's just a 75000 seat stadium, there really isn't that much to make it any better than Sun Devil Stadium or any other stadium in the world. There are hundreds of 75000+ seat stadiums in the world, what exactly singles this out as the best?

A bunch of people here are talking about how the inside is just another generic bowl. I'm interested to know exactly what these people feel could be done to improve the inside of a stadium? Build it like Old Trafford? Or maybe like the Ricoh Arena?

until it is built it is nothing....the best stadium right now is hands down OAKA...but i will say the renderings look very nice

OAKA is nice and all, but it's basically little more than an OTT variation of a general external stadium shape that was also used in Sydney and, indeed, Hong Kong stadium. The fact that the roof is held by suspension and has a few waves in it does not make the stadium special in any way whatsoever.

Tranquilo. Why do you shake your head to that. Look at the renderings. The design of the interior looks almost identical. I didn't say I don't like it. I like Allianz and I like the exterior of this stadium better.

But what would qualify it as the best stadium in the world? Exterior looks? proximity to the field? features? crowd noise? size? What makes it better than Lucas Oil Field, Reliant, Emirates or New Wembley?

Why do you shake your head to that. Look at the renderings. The design of the interior looks almost identical. I didn't say I don't like it. I like Allianz and I like the exterior of this stadium better.

But what would qualify it as the best stadium in the world? Exterior looks? proximity to the field? features? crowd noise? size? What makes it better than Lucas Oil Field, Reliant, Emirates or New Wembley?

3 complete tiers = Allianz in football mode no matter how you look at it.

And no one answers. What makes this surpass other stadiums? It doesn't have the eye popping numbers of others. I like the track system, but other stadiums have their own unique technical aspects. I think its the prettiest exterior we've seen to date, but convince me otherwise.

The club has the obligation to sell in the boxes those 11.000 seats for non associated people, that's because of they can't have more of those 42.000 associates.

Curious to hear the answer to this one.

If I'm reading it right (and I don't know the correct stats for sure) - there are 53000 seats, of which 42000 are taken by members, but the average attendance is 42000 - which suggests that either (1) none of those on the 'waiting list' are turning up for games, (2) no fans of other clubs are attending games, (3) a lot of 'members' are not attending games, or (4) the club is falsely reporting attendances.

(Stadium looks fantastic though)

Valencia CF average
2000 40.368
2001 42.737
2002 45.211
2003 45.558
2004 46.263
2005 42.442
2006 43.105
2007 40.625

Mestalla (52.469) is an old stadium and not modern and only one stand has got a roof
so, IMO, the average in the new stadium can be 55.000-65.000

With this building and its facilities, more fans will be willing to attend live football games.
every man who build a stadium with the goal of it being sold out at every game is overestimating the appeal of the team. Of course, this apply only to team that have an average attendance of under 50.000 seats per geme.

Yes it' kinda strange, it's similar at FC Barcelona.
Their average is about 70'000, the cap 98'000. According to the official site (http://fcbarcelona.cat/web/english/club/club_avui/informacio_corporativa/barca_enxifres/barca_enxifres.html) there are 86.472 Season Ticket holders and a long waiting list.

It's an impressive structure and an interesting approach to the exterior, but as I have just posted on the Bilbao stadium thread, cant help think these allianz arena lookalikes are poorly proportioned as regards the size of each tier, and their positioning. There is no overlapping, and therefore no economy of space nor minimising of viewing distances. Maybe I'm missing the reasoning, or cultural differences are reflected in this design and I'm missing the arguments for this approach. Personally, I thought the Mestalla did much of that quite well considering it was a gradually built structure. It's misgivings were obvious in the modern era, but a great football amphitheatre nevertheless.

I agree totally....... necessity is the mother of great stadia. That said, you would have thought that the potential material savings with narrower superstructures would also be beneficial and cost effective...... not to mention the benefits of bringing people closer to the action, intimacy, atmosphere etc.

The stadium itself will host an underground parking for 4500 cars.
In addition, that plot is 50 meters away from a subway station, 300 away from a tram station, has a 100 meters wide avenue in front of it and is expected to do at least a public parking in the surroundings.

The big disadvanatge of having overhanging tiers is IMHO that the seats underneath tend to loose the veiw of the entire stadium and alot of the atmosphere. The bottom tier of the millenium stadium is a classic example of that as the back few rows feel very enclosed.

Lest we forget - the ultimate purpose of a stadium is the viewing of the (sporting) event within. Thus, a 'boring bowl' is the perfect arrangement.

Out of curiousity, for those who find bowls boring, how exactly can the arrangement be 'spiced up'?

More sideline seating, Larger second tier of a 2 tier system. All suites out of the way on one side. Staggered tiers that move video screens out of the way. There are many ways to enhance seating views.

Many things can be also be done for pure aesthetics as well. The exterior is meant to cover a building but that never stopped anyone from designing fancy exteriors.

Nice to keep us updated, I am very interrested in this stadium as I live near Alicante.
Valencia is realy placing it self on the worldmap of events.
First the Americas cup last July,
next year Formula 1 crazy Monaco style in august see pic
http://i13.tinypic.com/660drgo.jpg

and then this amazing stadium.
One question, do you have more pics of how the inside of the stadium will be looking like, I´ll put in what I have myself, but it is not all clear to me.

http://i17.tinypic.com/4yfnsc1.jpg

Which one will it be?

http://i18.tinypic.com/4mw8i9i.jpg

I hope the first one, what I like of both designs is that the highest ring is also the biggest ring. This to mop gives extra power to a stadium.

One more question, how will they make an atleticstadium of this? by lifting the field to the level of the second ring?

What will happen to the residents of the houses in the background? Is there some sort of compulsory purchase? The stadium will dwarf the houses plunging them into perpetual darkness.

Exactly. There will be 52.000 seats in that case.

Thanks for the updates.

Do you know anything about the color of the seats? There are 3 different versions in the renders (grey, violet and the various colors from the inside render)?

Not at all, the stadium is dugg into the ground so it will only rise some 25-30 meters above ground. There are 90 meter tall buildings next to the stadium site so it is rather the opposite with the stadium dwarfed by surounding buildings. The construction of the stadium will also mean more commerse around
so those living close to the site will benefit with raised property value.

it's yet another stadium, like Allianz, where all the flair is focused on the exterior of it. The interior is really just a boring bowl, which is dissapointing

Bull, the layout of this stadium is completely different as the layout of the Alianz Arena.
The upper ring is the biggest ring in this stadium, in the Alianz Arena it is only a small ring.
This stadium layout is, to my taste, much better

Yes its extremely "elitistic" and it goes against the whole idea of the divisional league structure, its like a cartel but in football. Agree, but nevertheless its a good stadiumdesign (exterior at least, the interior looks very booring).

Why it´s boring and why people still refer to the Alianz, la Luz or Emirates?

The layout of the rings is completely different, no new stadium comes to my mind with the same layout

One thing i like about Mestalla is that at one side their is a tier which is larger than the others and breaks the usual symmetry. Also i think the lowest tiers lowest levels should start higher up so that they too have a decent view.

There was nothing there but weed for ten years. There was an old mill several years ago, that's why you can see in some pics a chimney and ruins.
The plot was used in the very last years to set shows as "Cirque Du Soleil" or the local funfair in December.

Was there any action groups that want to upgrade Estadio Mestella?
No, there was nobody, just because it was impossible. The current Mestalla was upgraded ilegally a few years ago and it will have to be demolished, as it is going to be. :)

What did the nimby people think of building the new stadium?
Some neighbours of the district where the new stadium is being constructed are trying to paralize the project because they think the new Mestalla will increase the traffic and difficult the car parking.

Yeah, me too. Really interesting to see changes that have been made every week.
Many newly built stadiums have a webcam, but the quality of your pics is much better.
Keep us updated :okay:

I agree with the sentiments above. Please keep the pictures coming. They're interesting enough now when it's just basically a big hole in the ground. When the superstructure begins to rise, I can imagine these pictures are only going to get better :)

Cheers!

England is too expensive
Allinaz Arena would have cost 400-500 mil euro in England

Yep. The club has signed a new sponsorship that will pay much more amount of money than Toyota. Nobody knows the name of the sponsor (which probably will name the new stadium as well) but it seems to be a technological firm (sounds Vodafone and Sony)

Presumably no fans will call it the "Voadaphone Stadium" though even if that becomes its official name.

Wow! Congratulations Acidmind, :okay: for your photographic work. It's good. It have a great enginneering value: it is the growing of the stadium and its buildingsite. You'd have a free entrance in Nou Mestalla as prize!

One of the main reasons the New Wembley wasn't given the 2007 final was because it wasn't complete at the time of the bid. I wouldn't hold out much hope that the Nou Mestalla will win this bid for the same reason.

I'm sure once it's completed it will certainly host the final one day as it will be a fantastic stadium, but UEFA don't like to give unfinished stadiums their showpiece final.
