Kintetsu dept. store to be rebuilt into tallest building in Japan
Kyodo

OSAKA, Aug. 8 -- The principal store of Kintetsu Department Store Co. in Abeno in the city of Osaka will be rebuilt into the tallest building in Japan, Kintetsu Corp., parent of the department store operator, said Wednesday.

The planned 59-story building, due to open in spring 2014, will be 300 meters tall and house a department store, offices and a hotel, Kintetsu said.

The 296-meter-high Landmark Tower in Yokohama, Kanagawa Prefecture, is the tallest building in Japan at present.

The department store in the planned building will have a total store space of some 100,000 square meters, much bigger than Matsuzakaya Co.'s flagship store in Nagoya which is currently the nation's most spacious department store with a floor space of 88,000 square meters, according to Kintetsu.

But is this building considered a 'supertall'? I know i am overly-proud of Osaka but this is not only great for osaka but for all of japan!!

Japan is the best country and we dont even have that many TALL buildings!! we need more.

due to open in spring 2014

So we are 100% sure this thing will be built?

HAHAH take that TOKYO!!!

Well, Osaka needs high-rises moreso than Tokyo given that the metro is so compact. Meanwhile, the Greater Tokyo Area can still expand outwards into the fields of Saitama. The Kanto Region is simply too wide a plain.
