Waldenstrom December 14th, 2008, 04:28 AM Ang paboritong mall ng mga tinatamad pumunta ng Carriedo.....:nocrook:
FRC Supermall
Imus, Cavite
NBI Clearance Capital of northern Cavite....:nocrook: :D

This mall is quite big. I will go there one time.
habagatcentral1 December 14th, 2008, 05:48 AM ^^ Para kumuha ng NBI Clearance? :nocrook: :D Mahaba na ang pila dyan as early as 7AM. :)
Its the largest ukay-ukayan in Imus, Cavite I think...Lotus Mall had made some improvements inside its mall, di na masyadong matiangge unlike before..
Lucentino December 16th, 2008, 01:58 AM Lotus Mall... Robinsons Malls... can't keep up with SM Malls... Puregold remains to be seen...
Lucentino December 16th, 2008, 01:59 AM Where exactly? Rosario? Gen. Trias? Dasmarinas? :ohno:
Sa Dasma... FCIE!...
Most afternoons, from the vicinity of Maguyam (Carmona), Maderan (GMA), up to Greenwoods (Dasma), there is a shower of smog and falling burnt debris... I dont know if it comes from a landfill but it sure is a result of massive open burning several kilometers away.
hirolionheart December 17th, 2008, 03:02 AM Lotus Mall... Robinsons Malls... can't keep up with SM Malls... Puregold remains to be seen...
Yey Puregold!
Mura naman kasi talaga mamili dito:okay:
No wonder andami na rin nitong branches:)
Pero siyempre, mas malakas pa rin ang hatak ng SM:colgate:
gurugeri December 17th, 2008, 03:23 AM Hi, there! I was in Tagaytay two weeks ago; it has changed a lot since my last visit there in 2003. Medyo busier na compared dati.
Waldenstrom December 17th, 2008, 02:20 PM ^^ yup. it's becoming more bustling but i'm not so happy about that. :colgate: i'd like it to maintain its rural setting but of course it's inevitable.

Syempre isponsored by da munisipyo.

habagatcentral1 December 19th, 2008, 02:02 AM ^^Talaga? Ang dilim kaya sa Imus...:bash: The real estate area of Buhay na Tubig is not well lit (and definitely dark) despite the tremendous growth in the area.
I have no idea why Aguinaldo Highway's street lighting is inconsistent? I wish they could've just continue the street lighting all the way to Dasmarinas.
Marami pa akong reklamo sa Imus na tila stagnant na ang growth nito pagdating sa infrastructure as compared to Bacoor and Dasmarinas. Dating tinitingala, ngayon tila sinusuya.

No, it was a roadtrip all over Cavite province. Bernie's from Imus while Jeff is from Dasmariñas. It wouldn't have been possible to leave the car at SM-MOA because I joined them at SM-Bacoor.

karirista December 26th, 2008, 06:54 PM ^^
...yung bacoor nangangampanya na sila for city hood...
...para ata sa plebecite..
Bacoor is indeed campaigning for cityhood, but it seems that Rep. Jun Abaya is NOT interested in that idea "kesyo daw marami pang problema ang hindi pa nalulutas ng mga opisyales ng Bacoor; and at this point hindi pa handang maging syudad ang Bacoor (alluding to comparison with Dasmariñas)." Abaya is more interested with converting Rosario (location of Epza) as a city ahead of Bacoor because he deemed the latter to be more fiscally sound (although me issue ngayon dun lalo sa mga pumapalag magbayad ng business taxes)...
And if Abaya is supportive of Bacoor as a city, sana inuna muna nya na ifile yon kesa yang bill proposing "Lone District of Dasma".
Kaya nga pumapalag ang tropa ni Strike Revilla; hence their cityhood camplaign slogan "Now Na!" However, it would seem that with Abaya's actions, as well as a potential formation of a formidable anti-cityhood org to be spearheaded by chapters of the organizations under Bayan Muna in Bacoor, Bacoor won't be a city until after 2010.
carl_vilches21 December 28th, 2008, 03:00 PM ...ilan yung GFA ng robinsons tagaytay??
hirolionheart December 29th, 2008, 02:26 AM Repost ko lang mula sa New Districts, Municipalities, Cities, and Provinces thread...
Citing the under-representation of his home province in the House of Representatives, Sen. Panfilo M. Lacson filed a bill dividing Cavite province into seven legislative districts instead of the present three.
Lacson filed Senate Bill 2428, which he said is in line with Art. VI, Sec. 5 of the Constitution that each local government unit with a population of at least two hundred fifty thousand, or each province, shall have at least one representative."
"In consonance with the constitutional principle of proper democratic representation, this proposed measure seeks to reapportion the Province of Cavite from the present three legislative districts to seven legislative districts," he said.
Citing the latest Census of Population (POPCEN 2007) conducted by the National Statistics Office (NSO), the population of the province of Cavite as of Aug. 1, 2007 is 2,856,765.
Lacson said this makes Cavite the biggest province in the Philippines in terms of population, followed by Bulacan with 2.83 million, and Pangasinan with 2.65 million.
"Compared to the province of Bulacan which is already divided into five legislative districts and the province of Pangasinan which is represented in the House of Representatives by six members of the House, the province of Cavite is clearly under-represented in Congress to the detriment of people residing therein," Lacson stressed.
Under the bill, the first legislative district will include Cavite City, Kawit, Noveleta and Rosario towns. The second legislative district will include Bacoor, while the third will include Imus. The fourth will include Dasmariñas town, while the fifth legislative district will include the towns of Carmona, General Mariano Alvarez (GMA), and Silang.
The sixth legislative district will include Trece Martires City, General Trias, Tanza and Amadeo. The seventh district will cover Tagaytay City, Alfonso, General Aguinaldo, Indang, Magallanes, Maragondon, Mendez, Naic, and Ternate.
So it is clear that BACOOR, IMUS AND DASMA WILL HAVE ITS OWN REPRESENTATIVE

http://business.inquirer.net/money/breakingnews/view/20090121-184738/Intel-to-close-down-Philippine-plant
MANILA, Philippines — Intel Corp., one of the biggest foreign operations in the Philippines, has told employees that it will close down its over 20-year-old testing and assembly plant outside Manila, INQUIRER.net sources in the company said.
The announcement was made via email around 10 a.m. Wednesday, the sources said. It gave no date for the closure. Officials of the US-based chipmaker and its local public relations agency told INQUIRER.net they were not ready to give an official statement at the time of this writing.
The plant in General Trias town, in Cavite province, has about 1,800 workers, down from about 3,000 in November.
The sources said the announcement was half-expected after Intel announced in November a first batch of layoffs and the remaining employees were informed of succeeding layoff “phases." The employees were told that they could get their severance packages in three months’ time.
Since then, Intel's local office has also done job fairs and education seminars, such as on starting small businesses.
Intel is said to be shutting down at least three more plants in other countries in view of weakened demand amid the global economic downturn.
Intel first set up a Philippine plant in Makati City in 1974, before moving to Cavite. Last year it announced a joint venture, Numonyx, with Switzerland-based STMicroelectronics in which the Cavite plant would manufacture flash memory chips.
Elsewhere in the Asia Pacific, Intel is widely believed to be consolidating its investments in China and Vietnam.

MANILA, Philippines - The death toll in the blast that hit a fireworks factory in Trece Martires City, Cavite rose to two Thursday noon, as authorities continue to battle the fire that was set off by an explosion.
Citing initial information, Trece Martires City police chief Superintendent Reynaldo Galang said the two bodies were recovered just outside the factory. He added that the bodies appeared to be those of a man and a woman.
"Isang lalaki at isang babae, sa labas lang yan (They appear to be the bodies of a male and a female. That's just outside the factory)," Galang said in an interview on dzBB radio.
"Putol-putol ang mga ito, pinatawag ang SOCO para ma-identify (The body parts are mangled. We have to bring in the scene of the crime operations teams to identify them)," he added.
A separate dzBB report also said burned body parts were found in the area surrounding the Starmaker fireworks factory in Conchu village.
On the other hand, Cavite provincial police director Senior Superintendent Hernando Zafra said three persons were already confirmed dead while 38 were reportedly wounded in the powerful blast.
In a radio interview, Zafra confrimed three bodies have already been recovered from the factory but did not say whether all the fatalities were laborers in the factory.
"Ayon pa rin po yung bilang ng patay, tatlo po (That is still our official count, three dead)," Zafra said, adding that the factory employs at least 100 people.

Revilla said he was guest speaker at an event in Maragondon town in Cavite, but when he learned of the incident, he immediately went to Trece Martires City.

Waldenstrom January 30th, 2009, 07:43 AM It's PAHIMIS ESTIVAL in AMADEO, CAVITE!!!
http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y282/unano/coff6.jpg
PAHIMIS FESTIVAL
January 29-31, 2009
A coffee festival of thanksgiving in Amadeo, the first ever in the Philippines, is envisioned by its municipality to become a tradition. But, what is PAHIMIS? Why it is chosen to name a very big event which is national in scope and takes very prominent national figures as guest and speakers including the highest official of the land.
PAHIMIS is the Amadeo word for pasasalamat (thanksgiving) in the olden times. As a tradition, the coffee farmer gave away his last can of harvest as a sign of thanksgiving, believing that by doing so, luck and abundance will come on the next harvest season. When a family want to open a small-term business like a carinderia (small fast food store) neighbors were treated first to an eattogether gathering for a Pahimis before the store opened on occassions relatives or friends were sent part of harvest or food as PAHIMIS.
To give semblance to the tradition, a coffee festival named after this cultural practice, will be held annually with coffee tasting fun and giveaways to ensure good luck and street dancing to shout the people’s joy of thanksgiving.
This event, initiated by the incumbent mayor and his officials, aims to promote Amadeo in terms of Agri-business and Agri-tourism in order to improve the town’s coffee industry and support the local tree growers. It also seeks to present Amadeo as the Coffee Capital of the country hoping to promote the quality of coffee in the Philippines and to overcome the problems of the industry because of unstable market condition, credit facilities, high cost of production and farm to market roads among others.
PAHIMIS, an annual affair seeking to boost the coffee industry and to promote out town as a tourist’s haven. Pahimis, A festival of thanksgiving hoping to revive a good tradition of greatfulness to them who do good to themselves and their fellowmen.

abs-cbnNEWS.com | 02/20/2009 11:41 AM
Despite a tougher business environment, SM Prime Holdings Inc., the country's biggest mall developer, said its net income last year grew 7 percent with the entry of new malls and expansion of existing ones.
In a statement, SM Prime reported a net income of P6.4 billion for 2008 against P6 billion in 2007 on the back of a 12-percent rise in revenues to P17.8 billion.
The company said the results included the operations of the three SM malls in Xiamen and Jinjiang in southern China and Chengdu in central China.
"Notwithstanding the global financial situation, SM Prime achieved its goals and sustained its expansion in 2008. The company performed fairly well and was able to deliver on its targets and objectives due mainly to the unwavering support of its loyal customers, tenants, suppliers, shareholders, and employees," said SM Prime president Hans Sy.
In 2008, rental fees continued to account for the largest share of SM Prime’s consolidated revenues at P15.4 billion, up 15 percent year-on-year. Bulk of the increase came from additional space in new malls and mall expansions during the year.
SM Prime opened SM City Marikina, SM City Rosales and SM City Baliwag and expanded SM City North Edsa and SM Megamall.
Put together, the new malls and expansions in 2008 added 353,000 square meters to SM Prime's gross floor area. The average occupancy rate of the new malls now stands at 93 percent.
Meanwhile, cinema ticket sales during the year was flat due to the dearth of movie blockbusters.
SM Prime spent P8.2 billion in operating expenses for full year 2008, an increase of 15 percent from P7.1 billion in 2007. Income from operations posted a 9 percent growth from P8.8 billion in 2007 to P9.6 billion last year.
For 2009, SM Prime plans to open SM City Naga in Camarines Sur, SM City Rosario in Cavite, SM City Pamplona in Las Piñas, and the Sky Garden at SM City North Edsa. The company is also set to expand SM City Rosales in Pangasinan.
By the end of the year, SM Prime will have 36 malls nationwide and three malls in China, with an estimated gross floor area of 4.9 million square meters.
SM Prime is a unit of conglomerate SM Investments Corp., owned by one of the country's richest men, Henry Sy.

Anyway, here's an old news. New Sta. Ana Park is in Cavite. :)
from naic.multiply.com
The Philippine Racing Club formally inaugurated last Sunday, January 11, its new racecourse in Cavite in a ceremony attended by PRC and Cavite local government officials as well as thoroughbred industry personalities.
Dubbed “New Santa Ana Park”, the facility covers around 70 hectares out of a 200-hectare property within the larger Saddle and Clubs Leisure Park complex. The property straddles the areas of Naic, Trece Martirez, and Tanza in Cavite.
The ribbon-cutting ceremony at the grandstand building was performed by PRC chairman Santiago Cua and Cavite governor Irineo “Ayong” Maliksi. Also on hand were the mayors of Tanza (Marcus Ashley Arayata), Naic (Efren Nazareno), and Trece Martirez (Jun Sagun). Likewise present were the corporate officers of PRC, among them independent director and former military general Renato de Villa.
The horseracing industry was represented by Philippine Racing Commission chairman lawyer Joy Rojas and horseowner-breeder Congressman Amado S. Bagatsing (Manila - 5th District), head of the Congress Games and Amusements Committee.
The day was marked by two Philracom Samahang Plaridel races and the 2009 Philracom Garnet I stakes (1st leg Local/Imported Challenge series).
It was also the last racing day of the first racing week at the new track and of the new year. Trainers praised the design of the racecourse and were thankful that no accidents occurred.
According to PRC vice-president for communications Jessica Villanueva, total sales for the week exceeded P130.6 million - a notable feat considering the sparse lineup. Some races were run with only four horses competing.

MANILA, Philippines - President Arroyo has declared the former site of the San Lazaro race track in Sta. Cruz, Manila owned by the Manila Jockey Club Inc. (MJCI) as a tourism economic zone.
Pursuant to the proclamation, MJCI and the Philippine Economic Zone Authority (PEZA signed yesterday the registration agreement entitling the listed horse race track operator to develop and operate several parcels of land consisting of 74,244 square meters as a tourism economic zone with information technology component.
The special economic zone, to be known as the San Lazaro Tourism and Business Park, will be developed in joint venture with property giant Ayala Land Inc.
ALI is currently building residential and commercial complexes, including one 14-story BPO building, in the area.
MJCI Investments Inc., a unit of MJCI, is allotting P383 million to put up and operate a Pagcor-accredited casino/hotel project in a 1.6-hectare lot.
Last year, MJCI secured the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corp.’s nod to run a casino, which would have an initial 200 slot machines and 10 gaming tables.
Once the casino building is completed, MJCI will start planning for the construction of a hotel adjacent to the establishment.
Incorporated in March 1937, MJCI is currently engaged in the construction, operation and maintenance of a racetrack located in Cavite and holding of horse races therein with bettings both directly or indirectly by means of mechanical, electric and computerized totalizator.
The company is also engaged in the development and sale of residential complex through joint venture arrangements with developers.
In 2005, the company entered into a joint development agreement with the Ayala Group’s Avida Land Corp. and Community Innovations Inc. to develop lots within its Manila property into residential condominium buildings and townhouses. — Zinnia dela Peña

MANILA, Philippines - “The whole is greater than the sum of its parts” is a quote we hear often to describe an interaction or cooperation of two or more organizations, substances, or other agents to produce a combined effect greater than the sum of their separate effects. This is synergy.
This concept of full integration is very much alive in South Forbes Golf City, the country’s largest fully-integrated and all-themed golf resort city at the forefront of the Metro Sta. Rosa - Tagaytay corridor and recipient of the Best Golf Community Development title by the CNBC International Property Awards, the world’s most prestigious property awards program, through its five Clusters of Excellence where a holistic lifestyle is assured every resident.
“The idea is to create a self-sufficient community where every resident’s needs is satisfied without leaving city boundaries,” Cathay Land president Jeffrey Ng said.
Travel without Leaving. South Forbes’ Residential provides a fusion of international design elements and Filipino sensibilities resulting in a unique development that harmonizes with our culture that of the foreign region.
Already completed and occupied are the quaint Mediterranean Villas, the resort-inspired Bali Mansions, and the serene Tokyo Mansions. Other villages include the tropical Phuket Mansions, the grand Châteaux de Paris, chic Miami, and the sleek Scandia Suites. We also have residential communities offering breathtaking views of the golf course like the fairway-fronting Golf View Terraces and the summit-set Sentosa Heights.
Bear in Mind. The Learning Links Academy of Sta. Rosa located inside South Forbes caters to young minds from pre-school through high school, also complete with a day care facility where trained professionals can begin nurturing the minds of these youngsters. Graduates of the academy can pursue higher education at the South Forbes City Colleges which ensures a continuity of excellence through knowledge in facing the challenges of a modern age.
Though still in the planning stages, South Forbes City Colleges intends to initially offer courses in Hotel and Restaurant Management, Information Technology, Business Management, Nursing and other medical-related courses, vocational courses (under TESDA), and foreign language courses — courses that open doors to the rest of the world as much as they help find one’s purpose in life.

MANILA, Philippines - Plus Builders’ Hampton Court gives you the best of both worlds: a commercial destination inspired by England located in accessible Imus, Cavite.
Lush gardens, cobbled roads, park benches, quaint shops facades, old-fashioned telephone booths: they don’t call this Hampton Court for nothing. As the commercial area of Imus, Cavite’s five-enclave, European-designed residential community called Eurotown, Hampton Court boasts almost everything that its inspiration, the British tourist attraction, is known for.
Dubbed a “garden mall,” Imus’ Hampton Court promises landscaped parks and open spaces, a gazebo, garden maze, and other features overlooked by most urban shopping centers today. The idea, apparently, is to bring the outdoors to people who are eternally indoors. Given the amount of time we spend in our homes, offices, and yes, even the malls, the sight of clear blue skies, well-tended green lawns and trees, and the scent of fresh southern air are indeed such priceless treats.
Lest one forget, however, this place with the thoroughly English atmosphere is in Imus – a short drive away from SM Mall of Asia on Macapagal Highway on one side, and Ayala Alabang and Tagaytay on the other side. Who says you can’t have the best of both worlds?
Those who are interested to put up their business at the Hampton Court, Plus Builders is now accepting inquiries for sale and lease applications. For further information about Hampton Court and other projects, call Janette Abelida at 5298981 or 5298975.

- Aie Balagtas See
mygz14 March 10th, 2009, 11:36 AM CNN names Cavite worker among 32 heroes worldwide
A 27-year-old Filipino worker who grew up near the slums of Cavite has been named a CNN Hero as part of the news networks program honoring ordinary people accomplishing extraordinary feats around the world.
Efren Peaflorida Jr., who organized Dynamic Teen Co. as a teenager to bring education to unschooled and neglected street children, will be featured on CNNs Larry King Live airing today at 6 p.m.
Born to Efren Sr., a tricycle driver, and Lucila Geronimo, a housewife, Peaflorida grew up near the citys open dump, where he played and swam near the garbage.
Although he was harassed and threatened by gangs that terrorized his school, Penaflorida realized early on that many less fortunate children didnt have his opportunity to go to school.
At 16, he recruited three high school friends to go to the slums on Saturdays to teach younger kids. The group, which began as a club to keep students from joining gangs and notorious fraternities that were thriving on campus, has become a 10,000-strong volunteer force that has tutored some 1,500 children from the slums.
Peaflorida teaches at a private school in Cavite City and still accompanies volunteers to the slums every Saturday.
Peaflorida is the third of about 32 CNN Heroes to be unveiled this year.
A blue ribbon panel will then select the top 10 CNN Heroes before the public selects the CNN Hero of the Year by voting at the CNN Heroes site (www.CNN.com/Heroes).
At a year-end gala, CNN will honor the 10 heroes and reveal the CNN Hero of the Year, who will receive $100,000.
In its second year in 2008, CNN Heroes received nearly 4,000 submissions from 75 countries.

mygz14 March 10th, 2009, 11:42 AM Pushcart classes help break gang chain
CAVITE CITY, Philippines (CNN) -- At 16, Rhandolf Fajardo reflects on his former life as a gang member.
Efren Peñaflorida's Dynamic Teen Company offers Filipino youth an alternative to gangs through education.
"My gang mates were the most influential thing in my life," says Fajardo, who joined a gang when he was in sixth grade. "We were pressured to join."
He's not alone. In the Philippines, teenage membership in urban gangs has surged to an estimated 130,000 in the past 10 years, according to the Preda Foundation, a local human rights charity.
"I thought I'd get stuck in that situation and that my life would never improve," recalls Fajardo. "I would probably be in jail right now, most likely a drug addict -- if I hadn't met Efren."
Efren Peñaflorida, 28, also was bullied by gangs in high school. Today, he offers Filipino youth an alternative to gang membership through education.
"Gang members are groomed in the slums as early as 9 years old," says Peñaflorida. "They are all victims of poverty."
For the past 12 years, Peñaflorida and his team of teen volunteers have taught basic reading and writing to children living on the streets. Their main tool: A pushcart classroom.
Stocked with books, pens, tables and chairs, his Dynamic Teen Company recreates a school setting in unconventional locations such as the cemetery and municipal trash dump.
Peñaflorida knows firsthand the adversity faced by these children. Born into a poor family, he lived in a shanty near the city dump site. But he says he refused to allow his circumstances to define his future.
"Instead of being discouraged, I promised myself that I would pursue education," he recalls. "I will strive hard; I will do my best."
In high school, Peñaflorida faced a new set of challenges. Gang activity was rampant; they terrorized the student body, vandalized the school and inducted members by forcing them to rape young girls, he says.
"I felt the social discrimination. I was afraid to walk down the street."
Peñaflorida remembers standing up to a gang leader, refusing to join his gang. That confrontation proved fateful. At 16, he and his friends "got the idea to divert teenagers like us to be productive," he says.
He created the Dynamic Teen Company to offer his classmates an outlet to lift up themselves and their community. For Peñaflorida, that meant returning to the slums of his childhood to give kids the education he felt they deserved.
"They need education to be successful in life. It's just giving them what others gave to me," he says.
Today, children ranging from ages 2 to 14 flock to the pushcart every Saturday to learn reading, writing, arithmetic and English from Peñaflorida and his trained teen volunteers.
"Our volunteers serve as an inspiration to other children," he says.
The group also runs a hygiene clinic, where children can get a bath and learn how to brush their teeth.
Since 1997, an estimated 10,000 members have helped teach more than 1,500 children living in the slums. The organization supports its efforts by making and selling crafts and collecting items to recycle. Video Take a look at the slums where Peñaflorida and his group spend their Saturdays »
Through his group, Peñaflorida has successfully mentored former gang members, addicts and dropouts, seeing potential where others see problems.
"Before, I really didn't care for my life," says Michael Advincula, who started doing drugs when he was 7. "But then Efren patiently dug me from where I was buried. It was Efren who pushed me to get my life together." Video Watch Advincula describe how he met Peñaflorida in the slums »
Today, Advincula is a senior in high school and one of the group's volunteers.
Peñaflorida hopes to expand the pushcart to other areas, giving more children the chance to learn and stay out of gangs.

mygz14 March 10th, 2009, 11:43 AM Teacher from Cavite picked as ‘CNN Hero’
Efren Peñaflorida, a 27-year-old Filipino teacher and youth worker, has been named a “CNN Hero.”
The prestigious recognition, CNN said in a statement on Thursday, spotlights ordinary citizens around the world accomplishing “extraordinary deeds.”
Peñaflorida will be featured on CNN’s Larry King Live airing today at 6 p.m. (Manila time). Peñaflorida is the third of approximately 32 heroes to be unveiled this year.
An esteemed blue-ribbon panel will then select the top 10 “CNN Heroes” before the international public select the “CNN Hero of the Year” via voting at the “CNN Heroes” site www.CNN.com/Heroes.
At a year-end gala, CNN will honor these 10 heroes and reveal the “CNN Hero of the Year” who will receive $100,000.
In its second year in 2008, the multiplatform initiative received nearly 4,000 submissions from 75 countries. A special “CNN Heroes: An All-Star Tribute” program will then air globally on CNN International, CNN/US and CNN en Español.
Growing pains
High school was hell for Peñaflorida, according to the statement. He was constantly harassed and threatened by the local gangs that terrorized his school. Students had few alternatives to the gangs. They were either forced into joining or they dropped out of school.
Despite the pressure, Peñaflorida was determined to complete his education. Growing up near the slums of Cavite City in the Philippines, he knew that, despite his problems, he was lucky. A lot of kids with his background did not have the opportunity to go to school.
At 16 years old, Peñaflorida decided to combine two problems to create a solution. He recruited three fellow high-school students to go to the slums on Saturdays to teach younger kids. That was the beginning of the Dynamic Teen Company (DTC).
Ten years later, DTC’s membership has grown to around 10,000 members and they have tutored approximately 1,500 children from the slums. DTC became the solution Peñaflorida envisioned. It gives high-school students an alternative to gangs and young children access to education.
Sharing his gift
At 27, Peñaflorida continues to share the gift of learning. He teaches at a local private school in Cavite City and still accompanies DTC to the slums every Saturday. His deep commitment to education will only continue to change the face of his community.

jsl_bxu1206 March 21st, 2009, 12:43 PM Project aims to make Kawit, Cavite next ecotourism site
By MADEL R. SABATER
March 20, 2009, 3:52pm
The Philippine Council for Agriculture, Forestry and Natural Resources Research and Development (PCARRD) is funding a research project which aims to make Kawit, Cavite the newest ecotourism site nearest to Metro Manila.
PCARRD is one of the five sectoral councils under the Department of Science and Technology (DOST).
According to PCARRD executive director Dr. Patricio Faylon, PCARRD is now funding research to come up with a proposal and framework for the project, which includes a study on the proposed establishment of a “Philippine Independence Park Legacy,” that aims to promote ecotourism in the area.
The funding, pegged at P 449,995 also includes identification of partner institutions, relevant policies, and linkages to facilitate project implementation as well as define possible design options or concepts and strategies.
The research is being led by Dr. Lope Calanog of the Ecosystems Research and Development Bureau (ERDB).
The project has three major components: a histo-cultural component that will feature the 14 presidents of the Philippines; agri-ecotourism that will feature a health park and a boardwalk for seafood festival, fishing, bird watching, activities like aerobics and meditation; and the mangrove rehabilitation project that will provide a central mangrove nursery as a source of planting materials.
“With this project, it is envisioned that the people of Kawit will have more livelihood opportunities. The involvement of local communities in ecotourism is also expected to rehabilitate waterways and mangrove areas, thus reducing the adverse effects of pollution in Kawit’s seafood industry,” Faylon said.
Located near Metro Manila, Kawit, Cavite is known for its scenic coastal area and tourism sites, particularly the Emilio Aguinaldo Shrine, the site of the declaration of Philippine Independence; Freedom Park, which was built to commemorate the country’s Centennial independence; the Baldomero Aguinaldo Museum, and the Battle of Binakayan Monument.
Ecotourism Philippines defines ecotourism as a form of sustainable tourism within a natural and cultural heritage area where community participation, protection and management of natural resources, culture and indigenous knowledge and practices, environmental education and ethics as well as economic benefits are fostered and pursued for the enrichment of host communities and satisfaction of visitors.
It is also a significant tool in sustainable development as it also advocates protection of the natural resources. Ecotourism seeks to put in place mechanisms that are environmentally-sustainable, economically-viable, and socially-equitable in order to bring about development in the country that would redound to the benefit of local communities, especially the poor and marginalized sectors of society.
PCARRD had allotted P 50 million worth of science and technology (S & T) interventions to further boost ecotourism in the country.
In 2002 alone, tourism accounted for 8.7 percent of the country’s gross domestic product (GDP) and generated US$ 1.7 billion from foreign tourist arrivals.

venntro March 24th, 2009, 04:03 AM 15 hotels to open this year (http://http://www.manilastandardtoday.com/?page=news4_mar23_2009)
By Roderick T. dela Cruz
FIFTEEN new hotels and resorts offering 2,000 rooms will open this year despite the economic downturn, the Tourism Department says.
The new properties are worth P20 billion, and they will be employing 3,000 workers, the department says.
It says some of these new properties have already opened, and they include 28 cluster villas under the Amanpulo Resorts, which owns Sugihara Villa Resort, Vauban Villa Resort, Salamanca Villa Resort, Almonavides Villa Resort, La Galice Villa Resort, Kapangyarihan Villa Resort, and La Pucelle Villa Resort.
Rates at the Amanpulo properties start at $1,150 a night.
Shangri La’s Boracay Resort & Spa, with 219 rooms, opened to guests on March 2 with daily rates of P20,500.
Discovery Bay Misibis on Cagraray Island, Albay, with 38 villas, also opened early this year with room rates starting at $305 a night.
The 75-room Park Bed and Breakfast Hotel and Restaurant in Pasay City, which is managed by Legend Hotels International Corp., has also opened, and its rates start at P1,500 a night.
The 50-room Microtel Inn and Suites in Puerto Princesa opened early this year, and it offers a daily rate of P3,800.
The largest hotel in Cebu, the 556-room Imperial Palace Waterpark Resort, will open on May 20, although it has yet to announce its room rates, the department says.
It says more hotels and resorts are opening in the second half of the year, including the 232-room Oakwood Premier Manila in Ortigas Center, which opens its doors to guests in the third quarter. The room rates at its sister facility, the Oakwood Makati, start at P10,000 a night.
The 100-room Picasso Serviced Residences in Salcedo Village, Makati, is expected to be completed by Ardent Development Corp. by the second half.
Also opening in the second half are two luxury hotels near the airport in Manila and beside the Villamor Championship Golf Course.
The Newport Marriott Hotel will have 365 guest rooms, and Maxims Hotel 170 suites.
The P500-million Silang Wakeboard Park is rising up on a 12-hectare plot of land in Silang, Cavite, and it’s expected to open by August.
The Manila Ocean Park in Rizal Park is building extra facilities including a boutique hotel.
The Tourism Department is also processing an application from Bella Roca Island Resort and Spa in Marinduque.
Tourism Secretary Ace Durano says these new investments in tourism-related facilities and establishments are expected to add more than 2,000 new accommodation rooms and generate 3,000 jobs.
“With this initial list of investments, the country is assured of a vibrant tourism industry with bigger revenue and more jobs,” Durano said.
The new hotels and resorts will pay no taxes for four to six years and may import capital equipment tax-free if they are registered with the Board of Investments, according to Victoria Jasmin, director of the Office of Tourism Standards.
Meanwhile, the Tourism Bill is expected to result in more investment and create more tourism zones once it is signed into law.
The Senate and the House’s bicameral conference committee has approved the bill, which will give the Tourism Department powers beyond its marketing functions.

Article posted March 26, 2009 - 03:27 PM
MANILA, Philippines - The Sandiganbayan on Thursday found a former municipal mayor in Cavite province guilty of graft for the anomalous purchase of a property nine years ago.
Oscar Jaro, former mayor of Imus town, was sentenced to six to 10 years imprisonment for authorizing the disbursement of some P8.98 million for a 2.36-hectare property without the Sangguniang Bayan's approval in 2000.
In a 38-page decision, the Sandiganbayan First Division said Jaro “acted in evident bad faith" when he authorized the purchase of the property reportedly intended for a garbage dumpsite.
“By paying for subject property using municipal funds without proper documentation and without any authority given by the Sangguniang Bayan, Jaro arrogated the power of the (municipal council) to establish a dumpsite," the court said.
The Sandiganbayan however acquitted the other defendants, including former municipal accountant Roselie A. Pangilinan and previous property owners Antonio and Lucy Venadas, due to lack of evidence.
In its ruling penned by Associate Justice Alexander Gesmundo, the Sandiganbayan pointed out that the Sangguniang Bayan had twice voted down Jaro’s attempt to use the property as dumpsite on the ground of unsuitability.
The Sangguniang Bayan is empowered under the Local Government Code to provide for an “efficient and effective system of garbage collection and disposal."
The court also noted an attempt by the defendant to cover up the crime by making it appear that the property was intended for a slaughterhouse, which was indicated in the check issued as payment for the property.
“It is to be noted however that there was a correction made on this check using a correction tape … and the word ‘slaughterhouse’ was typed over this area. I would appear that the correction tape covered the words ‘dumpsite of’," the Sandiganbayan said. - GMANews.TV

MANILA, Philippines--The Gokongweis’ Robinsons Land Corp. is set to open next month a 108-room hotel called “Summit Ridge” in Tagaytay City, the fourth member of its hotel portfolio.
The property developer has also firmed up plans to launch by next year a budget hotel chain called “Go Hotel,” which seeks to capitalize on the synergies with affiliate budget carrier Cebu Pacific Air, RLC president Frederick Go told reporters.
“The one in Tagaytay, I think it will be a successful hotel. It has the most commanding ridge view of Taal Volcano and climate is the best,” Go said.
The pilot site for the Go Hotel chain, on the other hand, is in Pioneer Street, Mandaluyong City. It will occupy two floors of the Robinsons Cybergate Plaza and offer 229 rooms to budget-conscious travelers.
“It’s a budget hotel chain which we think will do well especially because we can have an alliance with Cebu Pacific which is the largest budget airline. There is similarity between the markets they serve,” Go said.
In its fiscal year ending September 2008, the hotels division accounted for P1.14 billion or about 10 percent of total revenues. The group’s revenues last year went up 3 percent from a year ago.
The three other existing hotels in RLC’s portfolio are the 285-room Holiday Inn in Pasig City, 263-room Crowne Plaza in Quezon City and 210-room Cebu Midtown Hotel. These hotels reported a respective occupancy rate of 76 percent, 70 percent and 52 percent in 2008.

SENATOR ASKS WATER FIRM
‘Postpone project on Cavite-Metro road link’
Philippine Daily Inquirer
First Posted 23:37:00 04/20/2009
MANILA, Philippines—To prevent six months of heavy traffic on Aguinaldo Highway—the major thoroughfare that connects the province of Cavite to Metro Manila—Senator Ramon “Bong” Revilla Jr. on Monday urged a water utility firm to put off the implementation of its 5.5-kilometer pipe-laying project in the area.
Revilla said that Monday’s dry-run of the Maynilad Water Services Inc. project resulted in a 10-km long traffic jam which lasted for nearly four hours.
“It’s going to be hell. We’ve just gone through Holy Week and now we’re going to make more sacrifices,” the senator told reporters.
“The best solution is to postpone the move,” he said, adding that Maynilad should wait until the end of the year when the rehabilitation of Molino Boulevard is expected to be completed or when work is done on the Coastal Road extension in 2010.
Revilla, meanwhile, urged the Department of Public Works and Highways to monitor the Maynilad project.
It should also order the utility firm to comply with all the necessary requirements before a permit can be issued for the project, he added.
The senator warned the DPWH that he would hold it accountable should it issue a permit “despite the absence of a satisfactory traffic plan.”
“In the meantime, I expect the DPWH to halt the project. They shouldn’t wait for me to personally go there. You just can’t start digging without thinking about the consequences,” Revilla said.
The senator added that the implementation of the project would mean the closure of two of the highway’s four lanes, resulting in heavy traffic since the alternate routes would not be able to accommodate the volume of traffic that would be displaced.
“These are internal roads that are not capable of carrying more than 100,000 vehicles a day,” he said, adding that even the side streets in Bacoor were clogged during the dry run.

YOU KNOW YOU’RE IN Tagaytay when the atmosphere changes. The air is cleaner, the streets are lined with foliage, and you catch a glimpse of the ridge shrouded behind the trees. Some travelers compare it to Monterey, California. But count the legions of seminaries, convents and retreat places, you realize that Tagaytay attracts a certain vibe. After all, it wasn’t dubbed The Character for City for nothing, as the municipality has been doing values formation among barangays.
Aside from the Picnic Grove, Bag of Beans coffee shop, the zoo, the Cliff House with its landscaped terrace overlooking the volcano, The Flower Farm for its cutflowers, here are some of the new things to enjoy in this city.
Masa Ecological Development Inc.
The best handmade paper in the world is made in a little barangay off the main highway. Japanese company Masa Ecological Development Inc. (Maseco) follows the principles of eco-living such as recycling agriculture waste materials into beautiful works of art and creating jobs for rural communities to help stem urban migration.
Maseco produces non-petroleum and non-timber-based materials made from pineapple and banana fibers, cogon grass, rice straw, salago and kozo (originally from Japan and now harvested in Isabela). Each product—panels, wallpapers, lampshades, stationery and books— is handmade.
The company fuses Japanese traditional paper thread textile and modern technology with Aklan fiber weaving. It’s made into tapestry, curtains, mats and sashes.

Café on the Ridge
Taal Vista Lodge’s dining outlet gets a facelift, with warmer, modern interiors. The market has been clamoring for Filipino comfort food. The kare-kare is laden with nothing but oxtail and homemade peanut sauce. For a mere P250, one can have bulalo steak with rich bone marrow, accompanied by sizzling gravy flavored with drippings of the beef. The sisig has less fat and more meat. On weekends, the halo-halo buffet gets out. The halo-halo is made special with Tagaytay’s green pinipig.
For a bit of the Americana, the sirloin, made from American angus beef, is deboned and grilled to perfection, with potato wedges, grilled tomatoes, asparagus spears and corn on the cob.
Crowd pleasers are the buffets that offer paella, red snapper, roast turkey and Mediterranean spreads and pasta stations. The New York-style cheesecake with berries makes a tart counterpoint. Cap the meal with strawberry liqueur.
Mahogany meat market
The Taal Vista lodge has made this part of the tourist itinerary. The Mahogany market is the city’s original meat market which offers local beef, the pride of Southern Luzon. The best time to buy is 5 a.m. when the meats have been delivered. Sirloin is at P200, tenderloin P330. The sellers guarantee superior and fresh meat. It’s cut fresh thrice a day by trained meat cutters.
‘Ukay-ukay’
Olivarez Plaza, near the rotunda, is a cluster of thrift shops. Stores sell clothes, footwear and bags. You can get a new giraffe-print Fendi shirt for P40 or new Scholl reptile-skin loafers for less than P500. There are many brand-new Italian shoes that range from P400 to P600.
If you love animal prints, you’ll always find something—zebra-stripe shoes or Ralph Lauren leopard-print silk shirt for less than P200. You won’t find LVs or Vivienne Westwood, but there are many quality leather items from Europe, Hong Kong and Japan if you shop at the right time.
Ylang Ylang Spa
Taal Vista Lodge’s new spa is for people who want a quick fix or are on the verge of feeling under the weather. For the harried traveler, wearing a robe while eating banana and sipping hot ginger tea, getting a vigorous rub on and then floral bath is a convenient way to de-stress. The new Ylang Ylang Spa offers pampering bath amenities such as steam shower and a whirlpool bath.
The popular stone therapy massage uses volcanic rocks from Taal Volcano ideal for the city’s chilly weather. They are gathered in Taal Lake.
The hot stones are usually made of iron-rich basalt, a type of rock rich in iron, so they retain heat. River rocks are normally used because they are so smooth—smoothed over time by the river’s current.
Heated stones are placed at certain points on the back, on the palms or the feet, to relax the muscles to facilitate deeper pressure. The temperature boosts circulation and soothes the nervous system. It’s great for body pains, insomnia and lethargy.
The spa has an assortment of natural scrubs, body wraps, facials and scalp treatments. The Men’s Stress Buster has brown sugar foot scrub, a sports peppermint body massage and rice-and-pineapple facial for skin inflamed by shaving.
A three-hour romantic getaway service includes foot treatment, body scrub leading to a floral bath with wine. The experience is capped with an aromatherapy massage with ylang-ylang oil as aphrodisiac.
LorodePico April 27th, 2009, 05:54 AM CANYON WOODS TAGAYTAY
Although part of Batangas, Canyon Woods has been associated with Tagaytay. Just barely across the border of Batangas along Diokno Highway, the Canyon Woods Residential Resort was the first project in the area to introduce a "residential resort" concept. The 76.2-hectare development is a multi-product residential subdivision complemented by resort facilities and activities. Residential options include open lots and Canyon Homes - "country-themed" houses designed by premier architects - with excellent views of Taal Volcano, the lake, or landscaped open spaces.
The main amenity of the residential resort is the Canyon Woods Resort Club, a fully mater-planned development in itself which offers four major activity centers - the Clubhouse, casitas and cabins, the Campsite, and Canyon Golf.
The clubhouse, which has an 8,800-square meter main floor area, is the largest in Tagaytay. It offers prime accommodations and first-class dining and convention facilities. For indoor relaxation, members can avail of the health spa, heated swimming pool, library, or the mini-theater. The Fun Center has a video arcade, a children's playroom, and a separate billiards and game rooms.
The casitas, designed by Arch. Francisco Mañosa, provide a wonderful view of the lake and the pavilion. Each cottage features four rooms, each equipped with its own mini-bar and kitchenette. The cabins, on the other hand, are inspired by North American woodland architecture and have four to five rooms each.
For fun in the great outdoors, a fully-landscaped nature trail leads to the Campsite, a 3.3-hectare sports and recreational area that features a man-made lake, picnic grounds, a swimming pool, boat rides, fishing, a children's playground, and crazy golf. Sports facilities include venues for basketball, badminton, bowling, and squash.

Close this MANILA, Philippines—The SM Group will launch this year four middle-income residential condominium projects which will cost about P15 billion.
Officials of the group’s condominium development arm, SM Development Corp., said the new projects—two of which are in Metro Manila, one in Cainta and another in Tagaytay—would be fully developed in two to five years.
“We are quite bullish, that’s why we have lined a number of projects this year,” SMDC chief executive officer Henry Sy Jr. said in a briefing after the company’s stockholders meeting yesterday.
In response to a query during the stockholders meeting yesterday, SMDC president and chief operating officer Rogelio Cabunag said the company likely posted a net profit of about P400 million in the first three months versus only P14 million in the same period last year. This was on the back of a 109-percent rise in property sales in the first quarter over a year ago despite the generally gloomy economic outlook.
For this year, SMDC earmarked P7.2 billion in capital spending, about 40 percent more than its outlays last year. About 80 percent of the amount will be internally generated and the remainder will be covered by borrowings.
The first project to be launched this year is the P1.4-billion Princeton Residences, which will have 38 stories offering 1,156 units. It will sit on a 240-square meter property near the Gilmore station of LRT 2.
The second is 5.4-hectare Tree Residences along Imelda Avenue in Cainta, which will cost P2 billion. It will have eight mid-rise buildings, each with 12 stories and a total of 2,420 units. The first phase of the project will cost P800 million.
Jupiter Residences along Jupiter Street in Makati will consist of six 40-story buildings.
Development cost is about P7.2 billion.
The fourth project, Wind Residences in Tagaytay, will cost about P4.3 billion.
Sy said a lot of people projected that the first quarter would be bad and such outlook would usually be a self-fulfilling prophecy, like a supermarket reducing its inventory in anticipation of weaker sales. However, he said the SM Group continued to be upbeat on the property sector.
He said there continued to be strong sales of condominium units worth P3 million, which was the market that SMDC was serving.
Being a latecomer in the condominium market, Sy said the company had relied mainly on domestic sales, with only 7-10 percent of sales coming from overseas Filipinos.
SMDC was incorporated in the Philippines in 1974 as Ayala Fund Inc., a closed-end investment company limited by shares. In 1986, the SM Group took the majority ownership of the company and renamed it SM Fund Inc. In 1996, it was renamed SMDC to reflect its business thrust of property development.

^Cavitenos deserve half of the blame... They elected & allowed themselves to be used by those politicians... the other half? Well, you guessed it...
:ohno:
PS. penge ng kinakain mo!
ubos na! hehe.
Problema din sa Cavite, wala kasi halos matinong politician. No choice kumbaga like last election, wala namang kalaban si Maliksi. :ohno: Then yung mga nasa parido nya, sure win na.
LorodePico April 28th, 2009, 09:50 AM But Tagaytay will have to be careful about overdevelopment. We really don't want it to look like the rest of Cavite or suffer the same fate as Baguio. That really would stink.
Lucentino April 28th, 2009, 08:18 PM ^You're from Tagaytay? How is Robinsons doing there?

LorodePico April 29th, 2009, 03:14 AM Robinson's a great addition to the Tagaytay scenery. It's architecture is not your typical Robinson and blends well with the environment. The Summit Hotel is supposed to open this June.

kiretoce May 1st, 2009, 09:08 AM Freedom Island (http://www.manilatimes.net/national/2009/may/01/yehey/life/20090501lif1.html)
Corregidor Island is serene now; its cannons and guns already silent, having long ago performed their duties. All that could be heard from the island now are the calming sound of the waves paying homage to the shore, the chirping of the birds, the swaying of the leaves as they dance to the whistling of the wind, the blabber of the tourists, and the roar of the tramvia and of the ships docking and leaving.
But the relentless onslaught that the tadpole-shaped island suffered during the Pacific War is still evident in what is left of what used to be imposing buildings that housed Filipino and American military men and their families. Looking at the old buildings, now merely skeletons, one could easily conjure images of the bombardments that the island endured when the Japanese aimed their attacks on the island following their conquest of Bataan.
Corregidor in history
When Manila was declared an open city in an attempt to spare it from further bombardment, Corregidor became the seat of the Commonwealth government. It was here where newly re-elected President Manuel Quezon and Vice President Sergio Osmeña were inaugurated in a simple ceremony, and where they held office as refugees for two months. It was also here where General Douglas MacArthur commandeered the United States Armed Forces in the Far East (USAFFE) before he was ordered to Australia and where the radio station “The Voice of Freedom” broadcast. Most of all, it was here where the last organized resistance against the Japanese invaders was staged.
Located at the entrance of Manila Bay, Corregidor was vital in the defense of the country, for it was believed, rightly so, that “whoever controlled Corregidor controlled Manila.” And so despite the Japanese victory in Manila, they still couldn’t control the city as long as Corregidor was in the hands of the Allied forces. It was imperative, therefore, for the Japanese to conquer the island. But with the soldiers on the island and those in Bataan gallantly defending both fortresses, the Japanese found that it was no easy job to take over the historic island. That is, until Bataan fell.
When the country’s top officials were ferried off to Davao and Gen. MacArthur left for Australia, the defense of Corregidor was left in the hands of Jonathan Wainwright. With their powerful guns and undeterred determination, the Corregidor defenders were prepared to defend the island to the end. But with the fall of Bataan, the island, which depended on Bataan for potable water, among other things, was considerably weakened. Thus, on May 6, 1942, at exactly 12 noon, 27 days after the siege of Bataan, the cannons of the allies on the rock island were put to rest. Corregidor too, had fallen.
A Tourist destination
Today, Corregidor is a tourist destination and a national shrine featuring ruins of the old military buildings, military batteries, a Spanish lighthouse, and newer additions including memorials and monuments honoring the Filipino and American heroes of the Second World War.
One of the oldest landmarks in the island is the Spanish lighthouse. The original lighthouse, built in 1836, had a beam range of 33 miles (53 km). It was replaced with one with a more powerful light in 1853, and again in 1897, a year before the Philippines was ceded to the United States, only to be reduced to rubble during the Second World War. The one standing on the island now, right at the spot where the earlier lighthouse stood, is a reconstructed version. From the top of the lighthouse, tourists can have a breathtaking view of Manila Bay, and the South China Sea.
At the peak of the island’s head is the dome-shaped Pacific War Memorial with an opening at the top through which sunlight passes. Built by the United States government to honor the Filipino and American World War II veterans, it has a circular marble altar symbolic of a wreath of victory. On the rim of the altar, these words are inscribed: “Sleep my sons, your duty done. Sleep in the silent depths of the sea or in your bed of hallowed sod until you hear at dawn the clear low reveille of God.” Next to the memorial is a museum which features wartime photographs and artifacts, and behind it is the Eternal Flame of Freedom, a large steel sculpture that symbolizes the triumph of human courage and freedom.
The Filipino Heroes Memorial, a 6,000-square meter complex showcasing a Filipino guerilla statue and murals by sculptor Manuel Casas depicting heroic battles fought by Filipinos starting from the 15th century is among the newest additions on the island. Inaugurated in 1992, the complex was designed by Architect Francisco Mañosa. Other monuments placed in strategic locations around the island include the Filipino-American Friendship Memorial, the Japanese Garden of Peace, the Wainwright Memorial, and the statues of President Manuel Quezon, Vice President Sergio Osmena, and Douglas MacArthur.
The main attraction of the island is the Malinta Tunnel. Used as arsenal before war broke out, it was turned into an army hospital and military headquarters during the war. The tunnel is now a theater featuring a very moving audio-visual presentation of the events during the war by National Artist Lamberto Avellana. With the show capping the tour of the island, tourists are reminded of how dearly the veterans of war paid for the freedom we now enjoy. And as one exits the tunnel to the welcoming sound of the waves, one cannot help but think of those who had perished for the country, for freedom, for us.
LorodePico May 3rd, 2009, 01:04 PM I went to Tagaytay this weekend via Aguinaldo Highway. I just can't believe the traffic mess and the filth. Sometimes you wonder ano talaga ang ginagawa ng mga political leaders ng Cavite. Third world na third world talaga ang dating.
LorodePico May 3rd, 2009, 01:06 PM On the good side, however, is our dinner at the new Taal Vista Hotel. The food was good, the service excellent but most of all the hotel ambiance definitely is world class.

Which towns are you referring to? :D
Sinjin P. May 4th, 2009, 03:58 AM ^ I also went to Tagaytay this weekend via the Sta. Rosa - Tagaytay Road. Okay naman, smooth flow, except for some village parades that paused traffic for a few minutes.
LorodePico May 4th, 2009, 04:23 AM I am referring to the stretch from Bacoor to Dasmarinas. I am not sure how that road condition can be further improved. It's a mess. And it was around 2pm when I drove there so traffic must be light but it really wasn't. I can just imagine how it is on the busiest hours of the day.
LorodePico May 4th, 2009, 04:25 AM Speaking of roads, Tagaytay badly needs a diversion road. The weekend traffic was barely moving from the rotunda to almost the boundary area. Hopefully the opening of the Ternate-Nasugbu road will lessen the congestion but that doesn't eliminate the need for another diversion road for Tagaytay.
Waldenstrom May 4th, 2009, 05:49 AM ^ No matter what MMDA and the CTMO do like road widening & buhos system, the traffic poblem won't be solved. They just alleviate it a bit.
Soon, the Molino Boulevard and the R1 extension will be open to traffic. :) The LRT-1 south extension phase 1 up to Bacoor will soon start. (phase 2-Imus Phase 3-Dasma)
In thread 2, we also talked about there the proposed highways in Cavite. The CALA-North-South, CALA-East-West and the ongoing project Daang Hari Extension.
The future is bright for Cavite although it might take like 10-15-20 years more. :D
habagatcentral1 May 4th, 2009, 05:56 AM ^^ Sana piniktyuran natin yung developments sa First District Cavite. It seems that Rosario-Noveleta-Tejeros-Bacao area is full of developments unlike the second district, IMO.
And was surprised that the R-1 Extension would link with Daang Hari as of yesterday's sign at Bacao.

LorodePico May 4th, 2009, 09:54 AM I spent quite a bit of time this pm reading the Coastal Thread. Most of the observations from that thread regarding the Coastal Road-Aguinaldo Hwy mess are still very valid.
habagatcentral1 May 4th, 2009, 09:58 AM ^^ Why doubt its validity when its obviously valid? As a resident of Imus, I really am pissed off with Aguinaldo Highway. As much as possible, iniiwasan ko ang lugar na yan because its a mess, its chaos and its really frustrating.
LorodePico May 4th, 2009, 04:23 PM I live in Tagaytay and work in Manila from Monday to Friday. I am just so fortunate that there are alternative routes to Tagaytay via Santa Rosa or Southwoods. I would be very miserable if I have to drive through Aguinaldo Highway every weekend.

SM group to invest P25B in ‘09 projects
Thursday, April 30, 2009
Source: Doris Dumlao, Philippine Daily Inquirer
MANILA, Philippines – The SM Group of taipan Henry Sy is investing P25 billion in the local economy this year to expand its retail, real estate, shopping mall, hotel, and banking businesses, an official said Wednesday.
This capital outlay, budgeted by SM Investments Corp., the holding company of Sy’s SM group of companies, excludes another P7 billion that its mall development arm SM Prime Holdings Inc. plans to spend to put up new malls in China, SMIC president Harley Sy said in a briefing after the firm’s annual stockholders’ meeting.
The domestic capital expenditure (capex) planned for this year by the SM group, which has historically invested heavily even in economic downturns, was higher than the P19 billion disbursed last year.
SMPH will corner the bulk of group-wide capital expenditures this year with a total budget of P12 billion, followed by condominium development arm SM Development Corp. with P7.2 billion.
SM Land Inc., which handles the group’s commercial property development (including those for business process outsourcing or BPO office buildings), has a budget of P2.7 billion.
SM Land executive vice president Josefino Lucas said the company would break ground this year for TwoEcomCenter, the second of four BPO buildings planned in the Mall of Asia complex.
“This will be an iconic and modern building that will add to the strong character and branding of the complex. Construction of our ferry terminal project will also commence this year, for completion in 2010, affording us a direct ferry connection to Hamilo Coast by then,” Lucas said.
Another P5.1 billion will be spent for the hotel business, a new division within the company. The remainder of the capex will go to other businesses such as retail and banking (Banco de Oro Unibank and China Banking Corp.).
For 2009, SM’s retail merchandising group plans to open 14 SaveMore branches, two SM Supermarkets, four SM Hypermarkets and two SM Department Stores.
The SM non-food retail group, which is mainly the SM Department Store chain, expects to add 43,000 square meters in additional selling space this year for the new SM shopping malls in Naga, Rosales and Rosario.
Two-thirds of the capex for this year is expected to be funded using internal funds.
diba congrats....
LorodePico May 5th, 2009, 09:25 AM I know SM also plans to build a Tagaytay Supercenter but unless Tagaytay develops alternate routes to the city, I don't think this is a welcomed idea. The main road is already congested and don't want it to be looking like the mess of Aguinaldo Hwy.

Back in the 1990's, Aguinaldo Highway was the best route from Manila to Tagaytay. You can get here in about an hour during weekends (when Tagaytay is full of people)...but now everybody's avoiding the said highway.
Another option is to take the Daang Hari route via Aguinaldo Highway. At that point, its only Dasmariñas-La Salle intersection and Pala-Pala that has congestion but moving.
The so-called infamous "strangle-hold, bottleneck traffic" of Aguinaldo Highway starts at Makro Imus onwards. Before, it only starts at Camella Bacoor and was moving...today, its unimaginable except Holy Week, Christmas and New Year's Day.

LorodePico May 8th, 2009, 05:06 AM If there was a change it must be a change for the worse.
Lucentino May 8th, 2009, 03:46 PM Cavite is saturated with Homes, People, Industrial Zones, and Vehicles. The LGU, NEDA, DPWH and other government agencies lack planning.
I remember seeing a large billboard 10 years ago saying "Cavite's Second Revolution".
The "First Revolution" was the Philippine Revolution: FAILED!
The "Second Revolution" is the Industrial and Housing Revolution: FAILED?
The "Third Revolution" might be Political Revolution for reforms and anti-trapo: VERDICT TO BE DETERMINED
habagatcentral1 May 8th, 2009, 03:50 PM ^^ The First Revo was a success at least in a degree of fostering nationalism against the Spanish colonizers...only to be defeated by the Yankees in the end.
It was successful but short-lived.
For the second revolution, yes it was successful in attracting yet failed to maintain the vital infrastructure needed. PHAIL pa rin ang Cavite...tsk! :ohno:
But again, whenever I pass by Bacao-Centennial, this area of Cavite remains vast in contrast with the restrictive and seemingly overcrowded Bacoor-Imus-Dasma corridor.
The coastal towns of Cavite may be older and narrower but their outskirts are still vastly underdeveloped as compared to the Aguinaldo Highway corridor.
Lucentino May 8th, 2009, 04:54 PM ^Pinapataas pa ang value ng mga lote dyan
Bottomline: All PHAILED revos! :ohno:
habagatcentral1 May 9th, 2009, 05:30 PM ^^ Speaking of failed...
Last night...12 midnight...traffic was horrible at Longos-Talaba area. Reason: Accident and Flood. It lasted for 2 hours. Just great! And the traffic is becoming horrible by the day.

This is a common mistake. When one refers to the province of Cavite, just write Cavite. When one refers to the City of Cavite, then suffix the word City after Cavite. It is misleading at the start. I rarely see this typo-whatever situation when I read articles about Batangas, Tarlac or Bulacan.

LorodePico May 11th, 2009, 03:38 PM I have never been inside Island Cove but I've driven around its vicinity. All I can say is that I am very disappointed by its disorderly character. There is garbage everywhere and the stink was horrible. This is not the way to promote a tourist attraction like Island Cove. The mess around it is definitely a turn-off.
RonnieR May 11th, 2009, 06:05 PM ^^ Outside? yes, I agree but once you're inside, totally different. I think this is the reason why there are no foreign tourists who go to Island Cove or kung meron man, very few because of the traffic jam and the road leading to Island Cove.....dapat kasi total package ang turismo, infrastructure, surrounding and accessibility. Facilities wise, okay ang Island Cove. How could this place attract more tourists kung mismo taga Cavite di pa napuntahan? di ba? The local officials should wake up...

It isn't as bad as this one though... See where Taal was transplanted...:D
Taal of old (http://www.philstar.com/index.php?Travel&p=49&type=2&sec=48&aid=2008080990)
TEXT AND PHOTOS By Ayvi Nicolas
Sunday, August 10, 2008
I spent Independence Day in Taal, Laguna. And I left with many hopes, too many unanswered questions and one lasting image.
For a town with a pedigree like Taal, it isn’t hard for a stranger to see what its residents know. That Taal is a town with a glorious, historical past.
Taal is an Old Rich aristocrat who has suddenly realized that its past, no matter how illustrious and colorful it was, has been all but completely forgotten now and there is no other way but to live in the present no matter how strange the present might be. Genteel Taal couldn’t hide behind iron gates and capiz windows and shun the world for long. With dignified, careful steps, she walked the same old familiar streets and realized the brisk, competitive pace of modern life has fully taken over.
The words may seem a rash and sweeping statement and yet, like many other towns in the country, Taal is now described in whispered, sympathetic tones as a dying town.
Taal’s rich past dates back to early history. Internationally celebrated archaeological finds once put the town in the display cases of the world’s museums.
During the fight for Philippine freedom, Taal was the stage where great men and women plotted and played out their various roles in pursuit of independence and national identity.
Last Independence Day, the Philippine Flag was raised simultaneously in various symbolic locations in the country like Cavite and Rizal Park in Manila. In Taal, the Philippine Flag was also raised right in front of the monument of the woman who rendered the very first one. Though Marcela Agoncillo sewed the first flag with daughter Lorenza and Josefina Herbosa y Natividad (a niece of Jose Rizal) in exile in Hong Kong and though Emilio Aguinaldo would unfurl it in Kawit, Cavite, the Philippine Flag seemed to have been led home to its mother Lola Marcela, now cast in bronze standing tall and gracious at the very heart of the town she loved. And on that rainy Day of Independence, her townspeople gathered around her and relived the great stories of love and heroism that happened on the same streets where everyone gathered, lined by the very houses that stood there over a century ago.
Old glories are hard to let go, much like love stories wherein we never want the lovers to part or the fairy tale to end. Yet even the fiercest lovers have to let go of each other in mortality. And so no great town is ever truly immortal. That’s why on this day I have heard the question asked, is Taal a dying town?
This sad sentiment is reflected by its slowly disappearing crafts and trades. A long time ago Taal was a site of a bustling port where commodities and cultures were channeled through, an ideal place for artists and artisans, merchants and scholars. In recent time, the place was known for its piña cloth and balisong. Now it is sadly like any other town whose main industry is exporting professional and skilled workers overseas.
What every epic hero knows is that the story can make him immortal. And so our great Filipino heroes’ stories have been told to one generation after another keeping every name Rizal, Bonifacio Aguinaldo... all immortal. As what is true of a story’s protagonist, it may also be with a story’s setting.
Since that one day of restored glory on that Independence Day, Taal now wishes to be given a chance to tell its story to those who would come to visit. Taal yearns to showcase that by opening the heavy old wooden doors of its century-old houses. Yes, this is a town that wants to bring its old, illustrious image back. But it, too, is a town that humbly wishes to remember its identity and unique place in our nation’s fight for freedom.
I hope Taal would be able to hold on long enough to its historical treasures. I hope the Taalenos would remember the stories of heroism and love long enough. I hope the visitors would come to Taal just in time before all those are completely lost and forgotten. I have many questions as to how that will all become reality. Yet Taal today is slowly living, growing into the answer. Characteristic of its Hispanic past, a revolution is brewing right along its quiet, laidback streets.
A group of Taalenos has already formed the Taal Active Alliance League which aims to showcase Taal’s historical and architectural treasures. The league is comprised of committees on tourism, cultural mapping, a citizen watchdog, a technical working group, legal, finance and special projects and secretariat and media relations. With Vigan for an inspiration, the project to restore Taal to its rightful place in Philippine history is underway and the people behind it are aware that the first step must be for Taalenos to know their complete history and identity as a people.
Currently, volunteer teachers are taking a second look at each barangay to identify historical houses and other structures, and conduct research and interviews with the residents. Once notable landmarks and anecdotes have been identified, a group of photographers and writers will contribute their expertise to document the town’s heritage.
The project’s aim is to once again transform Taal into a quaint, interesting town with many touching sites and historical insights to offer to students and local tourists, ultimately giving the Filipinos a glimpse of their own proud history.
On the local government’s side, ordinances have already been implemented to control air and noise pollution caused by tricycles, the town’s main mode of transportation.
Like a few other towns in Batangas, Taal is a phoenix that has risen from volcanic ash. When Taal Volcano erupted in 1754, it wiped out Taal and surrounding towns Lipa and Tanauan. Through fires and floods, revolutions and legacies, Taal never ceased to be the graceful old dame of the South.
I have an image in my mind described to me one breezy afternoon on a balkonahe in one of Taal’s old houses. It’s a crowded street bustling with merchants, artists and artisans trading goods and stories while in the horizon the galleon ships’ sails flutter wildly under a blue sky and a hot sun.

How could this place attract more tourists kung mismo taga Cavite di pa napuntahan? di ba? The local officials should wake up...
Cavitenos would rather go to Caylabne, and the springs of Indang. They'd leave such places as Island Cove out for Manilenos to indulge. :)

A yes, Indang. Rio Villanuevo. :)
LorodePico May 12th, 2009, 03:49 PM Because of the above comment on the springs of Indang, it sparked my interest and googled it. It seemed to have some hotsprings resorts that maybe worth exploring, especially considering that they may not be too far from Tagaytay.

Cold river water actually. There was a controversy back then because resorts were constructed besides the river which where the resort gets their water. The agua is pristine and soothing.
Its nice because its cool and surrounded with primary growth forest. :okay:
It's just a few kilometers from Indang proper and very much accessible from Mendez Junction from Tagaytay. :)
LorodePico May 13th, 2009, 03:06 AM Thanks for the info. I will have to visit Indang one of these weekends. It's one of those places that probably needs further promotion. But I guess the seclusion is probably what makes it attractive.

President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo appears relaxed at the Imperial Palace Waterpark Resort Hotel and Spa in Mactan, Cebu, even as she carries on with the affairs of state. Earlier, she addressed the One Visayas Summit on Climate Change where she said that it is bad for the economy, particularly for the Visayas whose future is in eco-tourism. EDWIN BACASMAS / 05-13-09

Cebu's tourism industry to rise to greater heights
- "The DOT is given a broader resource base especially in promoting our tourist destinations. Regardless of which administration is up there, DOT will still be supported with the presence of this law," Durano said yesterday before the signing ceremony.
- RA 9593 will establish tourism enterprise zones in strategic areas including Cebu, Davao, Bohol, Laguna, Cavite, Boracay, Palawan and Iloilo.
- With the new law, President Arroyo said central Philippines will strengthen its place as the country's premier tourism area with 55 percent of tourism zones expected to be located in the Visayas and Cebu.
- RA 9593 will allow the central Philippines super region to have more sources for promotions and development, said Tourism Undersecretary Phineas Alburo. Full implementation will take effect before the year ends after implementing rules are issued and a budget is secured.

LorodePico May 13th, 2009, 09:51 AM I think they may be referring to Tagaytay as the center of Cavite Tourism Enterprise Zone.

alcogoodwin May 19th, 2009, 05:50 AM Howdee,
Wow it has been ages since I last visited this thread, indeed it has been a long time since I started it.
Am thinking of returning to Corregidor on my next Philippine visit.
Is there a website for the company that does the tours across there?
Cheers
Brad

I don't have any problems with fiestas. Pero parang wrong priority pa rin mga tao sa atin - save all year for one day of feasting - then famine normally follows the rest of the year. Sa Cavite nga maraming nanghaharang sa daan asking for fiesta contribution. Medyo nakakainin na to find out na palaging piyesta na lang.
Waldenstrom May 22nd, 2009, 10:01 PM ^^ Where do you live in Cavite? :D
I agree. Lalo na siguro sa Silang, 3 days fiesta
habagatcentral1 May 22nd, 2009, 10:18 PM Watawat Festival on the 28th of May here in Imus....:D

Thanks threadmates. Because of this thread my family was able to enjoy one of Cavite's hidden treasures. We went there this weekend and enjoyed it very much.

Yup. Ang kalapitan nya sa Manila is both a Positive and Negative... :)

Definitely agree with this statement. The priority for Dasmarinas (same with Imus and Bacoor) should be "Dasma Guapo" and not just papogi lang in its cityhood campaign.

Pansinin nyo. Napaka 4th world ng dating.
Wish ko lang talaga MMDA na ang mag-take over sa buong Cavite. Mga walang kwenta naman kasi mga politiko dito.
