Pansinin nyo. Napaka 4th world ng dating.

Tagaytay is consulting with MMDA. Iyong Mendez crossing na almost as ugly as Aguinaldo Hwy noon ay malaki na ang improvement, both in looks at traffic flow.

Actually MMDA consultation is not really needed. Political will lang kailangan and my observation is wala niyan mayor ng Tagaytay. Sayang naman dahil its natural beauty is unparallelled.

Gov. Drive is the road linking Trece - Gen. Tri (@Manggahan) - Dasma - GMA - Carmona. The widening and rehab works (from SM Dasma all the way to Carmona) has been underway since time immemorial. Kudos to the politicians, whose faces are once again being promoted all over the entire span. :)

PS. Dont forget to post the pics ha!

:ohno:

^^ If national support is a problem, why don't Cavite politicians do what Cebu did when they lacked support from the national government during 1990's and 1980's that resulted their economic boom during those times?

Its not about the jurisdiction IMHO but its about political will.

And regardin Aguinaldo Highway's worsening traffic....I blame Imus' stupid implementation of traffic management for creating a mess from Patindig Araw to MCI-LTO area! :bash:

My wife took the road to perdition from Tagaytay via Aguinaldo Hwy last night. She didn't have a choice since she had to pick up a cousin in Imus. She's cussing when she finally made it to Manila and said she'll never take that road again.I guess the trip was about 5+ hours. Considering the tremendous rain we've had last night, that's probably miraculous that it only took her that long.

It is only by law that Imus is Cavite's present capital or cabisera while the seat of government (at least of most government provincial transactions) are located in Trece Martires City because it sits right at the center of the province.

Pero would it be defying the true context of of the word "capital" if it is not the seat of power in a province? Well anyway, the current administration and most of the family dynasties that ruled Cavite over the past decade came from Imus...

Imus is capital of Cavite — Maliksi
By ANTHONY GIRON
June 5, 2009, 9:19pm

Imus town is the officially designated provincial capital of Cavite, not Trece Martires City, declared Imus Mayor Emmanuel L. Maliksi Friday.

"By law, Imus is the official capital of Cavite," said Maliksi, a son of Governor Erineo S. Maliksi. The older Maliksi holds office at the provincial capitol in Trece Martires City.

The mayor’s statement sought to clarify conflicting reports on the issue.

Records showed that Presidential Decree 1163, issued by President Ferdinand Marcos on June 11, 1977, declared Imus as the capital of Cavite instead of Trece Martires.

However, the provincial capitol or seat of government was moved to Trece Martires in 1979, although there is no enabling law for such move.

To this day, many officials and residents, including mayors and students, think that the capital of Cavite is Trece Martires City.

Cavite City also became a capital of the province once, it was gathered.

Imus, a first-class municipality, has 98 barangays (villages) and a population of more or less 300,000, and is bigger in land area than Trece Martires, a third-class municipality. Trece Martires has 13 barangays and a population of about 100,000.

Imus is also known as the Flag Capital of the Philippines since it was in the Battle of Imus (September 3, 1896) and the Battle of Alapan (May 28, 1898) that the Philippine flag was known to have been first flown. (comment: I think there was an NHI research done that would dish out Alapan as the site of the first unfurling of the Philippine flag...sa isang baryo Kawit ito daw unang inilabas at winagayway..ilang araw bago maganap ang digmaan sa Alapan...and another comment...how come "flag capital?" do they really know what "capital" really means?)

Cavite is known as the cradle of Philippine democracy and the birth of the country's independence.

Recent confusion about the capital of Cavite stated when a host of a popular noontime game show said that the designated capital of the province is Imus and not Trece Martires City, which was the answer of one of the show contestants.

^^ What is that law for when it's useless anyway? Ok, so Imus is the capital so what? Almost all provincial gov't transactions are being done in Trece Martires

Why not make Imus as the 'traffic jam capital' of Cavite as it has already surpassed Bacoor already in terms of traffic problem because of its many bottleneck areas. I commute from Manila-Dasma. every week so I know. :)

Summit Ridge Hotel: A destination in a destination (http://www.philstar.com/Article.aspx?articleId=475113&publicationSubCategoryId=87)
Updated June 07, 2009 12:00 AM

http://img41.imageshack.us/img41/7244/tourism2.jpg

MANILA, Philippines – Love Tagaytay City even more with the newly opened Summit Ridge Hotel, a mountain getaway nestled on the highest point of the city.

Just a 45-minute drive away from Makati, this new hotel destination promises to be not just a great weekend getaway but also so much more.

Summit Ridge Hotel not only lets you enjoy the resort city’s much-vaunted natural attractions, particularly the year-round pleasant weather, but it also allows you to do it in style.

The fresh air, together with the occasional morning mist and the mid-morning fog, perfectly compliments the hotel’s first-class accommodations, which include standard rooms and apartelles.

From here, guests get an unobstructed view of Tagaytay’s major tourist attraction, the magical Taal Volcano and the lake surrounding it. In fact, these are practically laid down at your feet when you stay at Summit Ridge Hotel.

http://img41.imageshack.us/img41/6378/tourism2b.jpg

“The whole Summit Ridge experience allows guests who are in need of personal time to chill out and leave the cares of urban life behind. One can actually avail himself or herself of the sports facilities like badminton and basketball courts at the promenade, take a dip in the infinity pool or simply enjoy a good book as you rest against a soothing Tagaytay atmosphere,” says Cora Ang Ley, head of RLC Hotels Division.

“This is also the only hotel resort property in Tagaytay that offers a whole range of training, seminar, banquet and events facilities, complemented by state-of-the-art audio, video and Wi-Fi facilities with a whole range of room accommodations to boot,” she adds.

With Tagaytay’s almost unchanging cool weather that is consistently in the low, at comfortable 20s throughout the year, almost anybody will find staying at the Summit Ridge Hotel a much-welcome time for relaxation and easy living.

On the other hand, those who love the outdoors can commune with nature at its most magnificent, letting the senses luxuriate in sights, sounds, and smell missing in the city. The breathtaking Taal Volcano and lake, the smell and feel of local plants and trees, the cool mountain air are just some of the delightful treats one can look forward to at the Summit Ridge Hotel.

“We have also whipped up an enticing menu available at the hotel’s Truffles, a cozy sit-down restaurant with an al fresco area overlooking the poolside. Here guests can take delight at the various offerings or enjoy acoustic sounds at sunset,” says Ang Ley.

With Summit Ridge Hotel, the resort city acquires an event destination like no other, a place where wonderful memories can be made. Packages will be available to suit varying tastes and budgets to make event planning easier and hassle-free.

And since a major part of any event’s success are the food and drinks guests enjoy, the Summit Ridge Hotel has assembled a professional, experienced and versatile kitchen and service crew to help make any visit to the complex an experience worth repeating again and again.

So drive to Tagaytay City without having to worry that it will be just an exhausting exercise that leaves you little time to see and enjoy everything it has to offer. The Summit Ridge Hotel — “the destination in a destination” — assures its guests of a relaxing and enjoyable time that will rejuvenate them not just for the drive home but for the hassles of urban life.

Summit Ridge Tagaytay is located at Km. 58, Aguinaldo Highway, Tagaytay City.

RP eyes Chinese loan to fund LRT extension (http://www.manilatimes.net/national/2009/june/11/yehey/business/20090611bus2.html)
Manila Times (http://www.manilatimes.net/national/2009/june/11/yehey/business/20090611bus2.html)
By Darwin G. Amojelar, Senior Reporter

THE Philippines plans to tap official development assistance (ODA) from Beijing for the proposed extension of the country’s first Light Rail Transit (LRT), the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) said.

In a letter dated May 28, NEDA Director General and Socioeconomic Planning Secretary Ralph Recto told Transport Secretary Leandro Mendoza that “the Chinese [ODA] is the most cost-effective financing source” for the LRT Line 1 South Extension Project.

Recto asked the Department of Transportation and Communications (DOTC) to submit documentation for the Chinese loan.

The Philippines earlier was eyeing a $400-million to $500-million grant from the US Millennium Challenge Corp. (MCC) to partly finance the project.

State-run Light Rail Transit Authority (LRTA) had said the planned extension to Cavite of LRT Line 1 would now cost $1.78 billion, up from the previous $683 million.

“The revised project cost includes the light rail vehicle [LRV] requirements on account of the Line 1 North Extension Project and the System Enhancement Works of the entire line during the 40-year concession period,” LRTA said.

The project aims to extend the existing 15-kilometer LRT 1 by an additional 11.7 kilometers, of which about 10.5 kilometers will be elevated and 1.2 kilometers will be at-grade.

The extension will start from the existing line’s last station at Baclaran and will traverse the cities of Parañaque and Las Piñas in Metro Manila before reaching the municipality of Bacoor, Cavite.

The project will include eight new passenger stations, with provision for two additional stations. It is expected to serve 800,000 passengers a day and cut travel time from Bacoor to Monumento, Caloocan City, to less than an hour.

The project will also involve system enhancement works over the concession period, which would include fleets upgrade, replacement and capacity improvements. A total of 64 LRVs will be added in 2020 and another eight in 2030.

New Cavite tourism strategy set (http://www.mb.com.ph/articles/206170/new-cavite-tourism-strategy-set)
By MANDY FRANCISCO
June 7, 2009

TRECE MARTIRES CITY — The provincial government of Cavite has adopted a new strategy in an effort to attract more tourists and investors.

As this developed, Cavite Gov. Ayong S. Maliksi commissioned the Cavite Association of Historical Sites and Museums (CAHSAM) to formulate a comprehensive program on tourism which would be used "as a potent tool to encourage prospective tourists as well as investors" to come to the province.

The support of CAHSAM was enlisted by Maliksi following a seminar-worshop on “Cavite mapping and historical trail” held recently at Watercamp Resort in Kawit. The seminar was authorized by the Department of Tourism (DoT).

Maliksi said the seminar was in line with the provincial government's thrust of promoting Cavite as a tourism destination focusing on history and cultural heritage.

"Cavite is rich in history, and I'm proud that our province is known as the Historial Capital of the Philipines. It is for this reason that we have to take pride, promote, enhance and preserve our historical and cultural values.

"I am highly confident that with history and cultural heritage as the centerpiece of our program, our province's economic growth could dramatically improve," Maliksi said.

10 firms in Cavite ecozone honored (http://www.mb.com.ph/articles/206098/10-firms-cavite-ecozone-honored)
By DEL VILLANUEVA
June 7, 2009

KAWIT, Cavite — Ten companies, which have been operating for more than 20 years at the Cavite Export Zone (CEZ), were presented the 20 K+ Milestone Achievement Award by the Philippine Export Zone Authority headed by Director-General Lilia B. de Lima.

The awards were given during the celebration of CEZ 29th anniversary last Friday at the Island Cove Resort and Leisure Park in this town. Assisting De Lima in the awarding rites were CEZ Administrator Theo Panga, Rosario Mayor Nonong Ricafrente, and former Vice Governor Jonvic Remulla.

The awardees were MEC Electronics Phils. Corp., Cavite Apparel Corp., CS Garments, Nihon Garter Phils., Cavite Manufacturing Co. Inc., Clarion Manufacturing Corp., Mikado Phils. Co., Zentex Co. Inc., Chang Chuen Cotton Corp., and JPN Inc.

In her speech during the awarding program, De Lima lauded the 10 companies for their support for the government's effort to promote and develop the national economy and generate jobs for the people.

She said that "through thick and thin, through good times and bad times," these locator-companies stayed in the largest economic zone in Rosario, Cavite.

She praised former Cavite Governor Johnny Remulla and Mayor Ricafrente, who both graced the occasion, for doing the groundwork for the establishment of the economic zone. She recalled that during a recent visit to Vienam, she was asked by Vietnamese officials what is the secret of success of the government’s economic zone in Cavite.

She said that an ecozone becomes successful when local officials and the community commit their full support for it. This happened in Cavite during the 1990s and is now largely replicated in other parts of the country.

"Through his various infrastructure projects and industrial peace program, Cavite was slowly transformed from a "badland" into one of the most peaceful and progressive provinces in the country today," De Lima said.

At present, the CEZ which is home to 255 companies has been directly and indirectly benefitting 1.6 million people and generating P2.53 billion in export earnings annually.

Sen.

Bong Revilla Gears Up as Suzuki Brand and Safety Ambassador (http://motioncars.com/autobuzz/articles63/bong_revilla.htm)

Senator Ramon “Bong” Revilla, Jr. has signed on to be Suzuki’s brand and safety ambassador, through a partnership that will promote the dynamic motorcycle lifestyle and advocate safe motorcycle riding.

According to Suzuki Philippines President Satoshi Uchida, “As a young, dynamic legislator, Senator Bong is a hero to millions of Filipino youth. He is the perfect role model to lead Suzuki’s vision of an exciting way of life. Through his support, we can enhance riding safety among motorcycle riders.”

Revilla, an avid motorcycle enthusiast, will be riding the new 2009 Suzuki Intruder M1800R, a racing superbike powered by a four-stroke, twin-cam 1800cc engine. Revilla will also be promoting Suzuki’s S.A.F.E. advocacy through a nationwide publicity campaign. S.A.F.E. is an acronym for Safe, Active, Fashionable, and Easy to use — qualities that all Suzuki motorcycles embody. Senator Revilla will be the company’s endorser for the big bikes that Suzuki Philippines will be bringing in the country.

At the forefront of the S.A.F.E. campaign is Suzuki’s mobile riding safety workshops which brings safety training down to the grassroots level. Suzuki’s riding instructors are deployed to communities where they conduct actual riding demonstrations to make motorcycle riders aware of safety guidelines.

With its commitment to bring mobility to Filipino consumers, Suzuki Philippines is the only integrated motoring company carrying both automobile and motorcycle products under one roof. It hopes to contribute to the country’s progress and industrialization by introducing more dynamic products and programs for the Filipino motoring public harnessing the power of Suzuki’s Way of Life.

Its manufacturing philosophy is grounded on providing value-packed, high-quality products offering both reliability and originality. Suzuki R&D efforts cover a wide range of the latest advances in energy, environment, electronics, communication, information and control applications — all devoted to creating products what will meet the challenges of the next generation.

My concern is more of the fact that the site where it used to stand is now overrun by a squatter colony. It would have been better if the government preserves the structure for educational and tourism purposes even if the church itself no longer exists.

Five die in Philippine traffic shootout
June 22, 2009 - 6:34PM

http://news.smh.com.au/breaking-news-world/five-die-in-philippine-traffic-shootout-20090622-ctt5.html
Five people have been killed and a sixth is in a critical condition after two Philippine families fired on each other over a minor traffic incident near Manila, police say.

The bloody firefight happened on Sunday at the municipal market of Imus, south of Manila, after a truck delivering blocks of ice parked in front of a Muslim grocer, the town's police chief said.

The grocer went to the ice factory to complain about the truck but the family that owned it returned to the public market and fired on the grocery with handguns, Superintendent Ulysses Cruz told reporters.

The grocer and his family returned fire.

The shopkeeper and a relative as well as the ice factory owner and two of his family members all were killed.

A sixth man, another relative of the ice factory owner, sustained a gunshot wound and remained in a critical condition in an Imus hospital on Monday, said provincial police spokeswoman Chief Inspector Milagros Sanchez.

Home > Business > Corporate Shang Properties seeks partners to develop Makati, Bonifacio properties
RUBY ANNE M. RUBIO, GMANews.TV
06/24/2009 | 09:03 PM

| | More
MANILA, Philippines - Shang Properties, Inc. is on a lookout for partners that may be interested in helping develop its properties in Makati, Fort Bonifacio, Cavite, Tagaytay, and Batangas.

However, president and chief executive Andres D. Bautista said the development is unlikely to happen this year.

The company is on the alert for “good opportunities" for some 474.74 hectares of undeveloped land, Bautista told GMANews.TV.

These include a one-hectare property in Malugay, Makati; a 1,348-square meter Fort Bonifacio lot in front of Pacific Plaza Tower; a 20-hectare land in Cavite; a 53.6-hectare property in Tagaytay; and 400-hectare property in Mabini, Batangas.

The company is open to developing these properties through a joint venture although it can improve these lots by itself, Bautista said.

“We are always on the lookout for prospects for joint venture opportunities," Bautista said after the annual stockholders’ meeting. “I don't think it is not within the plans of 2009 but we try to be flexible all the time."

Shang Properties is the product of a merger between EDSA Properties Holdings, Inc. and Kuok Philippine Properties, Inc.

Among its projects are The St. Francis Shangri-La Place, Shangri-La Plaza, KSA Realty Corp., The Shang Grand Tower, and Shang Residences at the Fort.

As of 2008, Shang Properties sold a total of 952 units in The St. Francis Shangri-La Place amounting to P4.91 billion since its launching in November 2005.

The 60-storey project is considered to be the tallest residential building in the country.

"We expect all units will be handed over by the end of the year," he said.

The property has excavated 99 percent of the luxury hotel and residential project in Bonifacio Global City, he added.

"We are still tinkering with the design. We will be building an iconic development something the Philippines will be proud of," he added.

Shares of Shang Properties Inc. remained unchanged at P1.36 apiece during Wednesday's trading at the Philippine Stock Exchange. - GMANews.TV

Dun sa may Rotunda dun sa may 7-11, meron don restaurant na nag sara na.

Alam ko may nag complain dati tungkol sa restaurant na yon dahil na block yung view ng volcano from the rotunda.

Since sarado na naman yung restaurant na yon dahil hindi kumita, dapat i-demolish na para mabalik view corridor to the public.

The view corridor is public property, nobody has the right just block it and take for their own. If they wanted to build something there it should have been lower so that it doesn't take away the street level view of the volcano.

Another visual anomaly in Tagaytay is the Splendido Taal Tower.

A tower in the middle of nowhere on top of a mountain ridge?? It is so out of place.

I think the Enriles own this. I don't know how this tower got approved by the Tagaytay LGU.

Cavite now RP’s most populated province (http://www.mb.com.ph/articles/219289/cavite-now-rp-s-most-populated-province)
By ANTHONY GIRON
September 5, 2009, 7:27pm
Manila Bulletin (http://www.mb.com.ph/articles/219289/cavite-now-rp-s-most-populated-province)

Cavite is now the country's most densely populated province with over three million people living in its 20 towns and cities.

In an interview, Gov. Ayong S. Maliksi said the province’s growing population was one of the main causes of traffic jams particularly in the lowland areas.

"The big population of the province speaks for itself. We are now three million. Cavite is the country's most populated province, based on records," said Maliksi.

Region 4-A, or the Cavite-Laguna-Batangas-Rizal-Quezon (Calabarzon) area, has the biggest population among the 16 regions in the country with 11,743,110 million, based on the survey made by the National Statistics Office (NSO) on Aug. 1, 2007.

The number of people in Region 4-A was 13 percent of the country's total population of 88,574,614, the NSO records showed.

The population of Cavite as of August 1, 2007 was 2,856,765. The figure was higher by 793,604 as compared to the 2000 census report with 2,063,161. The NSO said that the average annual population growth rate of the province during the seven-year period was 4.59 percent.

The number of the people in Cavite is 24.33 percent of the population of Region 4-A. Based on the accounts, the population of Cavite by this year is over three million.

Records revealed that among the 20 municipalities and cities of Cavite, the most populated areas are Dasmariñas with 556,330, followed by Bacoor, the province's gateway, with 441,197 and Imus, the capital, with 253,158.

Officials said that the neighboring Bacoor, Imus and Dasmariñas are the most traffic-prone areas in the province.

The towns with the least population are all in District III or the upland area. The three towns with the smallest population are General Aguinaldo with 17,818, Magallanes 18,890 and Ternate 20,457.

The population of Tagaytay City, the No. 1 tourist destination, is 45,287.

The August 2007 survey showed that Trece Martires, the provincial capitol site, was the fastest growing city in terms of population growth rate. The city has a population of 90,177, based on the 2007 census report.

Cavite is a first-class province south of the National Capital Region (NCR). It is known as the cradle of Philippine revolution and birthplace of the country's independence.

There are at least 20 tourist spots in the province. The most frequently-visited area is Tagaytay City.

More than one million foreign and local tourists visit Tagaytay alone every year to take a glimpse of the Taal Volcano, the smallest volcano in the world which crater is within a lake, and enjoy the cool climate of the city.

Traffic jams remained to be a problem in the city particularly along Aguinaldo Highway in Bacoor and Imus areas. The Aguinaldo road is a 42-kilometer stretch from Bacoor to Tagaytay.

Traffic stalled on the highway during rush hours everyday especially during Christmas and Lenten seasons due to the big volume of vehicles that pass by the area.

There are ghosts in correigidor. There were severa local documentaries shown in local TV before showcasing these unearthly beings. I remember this show in ch7 where in they brought some local "ghost hunters" and even caught several white ghostly figures using their night cams. They tried to make contact and they sed these are american soldiers still lingering around in the area.

I hope the potholes along Aguinaldo Highway after the continuous rains over the weekend are patched up immediately. It's causing horrendous traffic especially during rush hours. The asphalt used by DMCI in patching the diggings they did when they laid the Maynilad pipes are of very inferior quality so after only one weekend of rains, the entire stretch in Talaba-Longos are all potholes.

One big thumbs-down to the BTMO aka Strike's Yellow Boys kasi sila pala ang PROMOTOR ng buhos system na yan...kung ang CTMO or Larry (Nato)'s Brown/Red Boys ng provincial government eh they wanted to abandon it, ang henyo pa ng mga taga-BTMO lalo tong si Glenn Del Rosario na to samantalang ang buhos nga ang MAS LALONG NAGPAPALALA sa trapik na yan, I don't even see them abandoning that COUNTERPRODUCTIVE scheme even if the St. Dominic-Niog stretch of Molino Boulevard (isa na namang proyektong inagaw ng magkapatid na Bong-Strike, after the Bacoor portion of Aguinaldo Highway which many say ay inagaw mula kay BF) is fully opened to vehicular traffic...

*************************

One-way traffic enforced in Cavite during rush hours (http://www.mb.com.ph/articles/217175/oneway-traffic-enforced-cavite-during-rush-hours)

The so-called "buhos" system (one-lane traffic) is being enforced every now and then along Cavite’s main Aguinaldo Highway in Bacoor town and neighboring Imus during rush hours of the day.

Geronimo del Rosario, head of the Bacoor Traffic and Parking Management Division, said traffic in the area may stall for 20 minutes or more with the system during the peak hours.

"Puwedeng tumagal ng 20 minutes o higit pa na nakahinto ang sasakyan sa area dahil sa buhos system kapag rush hours," he said. <-- Sir hindi ninyo man lang inisip ang oras ng ibang tao!!!

Del Rosario said the "buhos" system is one way to unleash the tens of thousands of vehicles that get tangled on Aguinaldo Highway in Bacoor and Imus during rush hours.

Commuters experience heavy traffic every day along the highway’s stretch from Longos in Bacoor to Palico in Imus. Traffic is worst during rush hours from 6:30 a.m. to 9 a.m., and 5 to 9 p.m.

Del Rosario said the "buhos" system would have to be implemented at times to keep the vehicles moving on both lanes of the highway.

The official said with the system, the flow of vehicles on one lane would have to be stopped for a certain time to give way to the movement of traffic on the opposite lane.

"Otherwise, traffic jam on both lanes will prevail. Lalung tatagal lang ang trapik sa highway," he said.

Del Rosario said that aside from the big volume of vehicles, the narrow road, abrupt curves and highway diggings or patches are the main causes of traffic in the area.

He estimated that there are some 1.5 million residents who commute daily from Cavite to Metro Manila and vice versa via Aguinaldo Highway.

Governor Ayong S. Maliksi declared earlier that Cavite is the most densely populated province in the country. There are now more than three million people living in the province's 20 towns and three cities, he said.

In an interview, Del Rosario said that between 80,000 and 100,000 vehicles travel along Aguinaldo Highway every day.

Aguinaldo Highway is the longest road in Cavite. It starts at the lowland Bacoor and ends in upland Tagaytay City.

Coastal Road tollgate reports said that between 25,000 and 30,000 vehicles pass by the Aguinaldo Highway in Bacoor during rush hours.

Residents have suggested color-coding, truck ban and other schemes aside from the "buhos" system to ease the traffic along the highway. Officials have yet to heed the suggestions.

Buti na lang hindi sinara, hinarangan o binarikadahan ni Strike Revilla ang Aguinaldo Highway during his 2nd Bacoord Traffic Festival, hindi katulad last year, the 1st Bacood Traffic Festival. Sana mag-isip-isip uli yung mga taga-Bacoor at mga taga-Cavite in-general, we don't need trapos like those ones na nakaupo ngayon...

The problem in Bacoor is wala atang MATINONG gustong labanan sina Strike at JBC next year eh. Rumors also had it before that Peter Abaya the Jatropha king and brother of Rep. Jun Abaya is interested in the Bacoor mayorship kaso depende rin yata kay Malvar na ngayon hindi na singbango ang pangalan nya compared nung 2007.

BTW do you happen to be Master Betong, the first person in the blogosphere who called that wakwents na Bacood Festival "Traffic Festival"?

They are aware of the problem...how come I don't see concrete solutions except for Daang Hari, Coastal Road Extension and Molino Boulevard? Where did the Ca-La-Ex have gone?

Still, Cavite lacks proper urban planning and mobilization for the anticipation of Metro Manila urbanization spill-over. No wonder Laguna's urban center extends all the way to Los Baños as compared to Cavite which only reaches IMO Pala-Pala Dasma. Travel time from Alabang to Calamba is less than 45mins and thats about 20-30+ kilometers via SLEX. Travel time from Robinsons Place Imus to Longos Junction in Bacoor would take at least 2-3 hours on a Monday...and that's only 3-4 kilometers of distance.

This DelRosario guy is such a headache. Buhos is not effective in Imus, IMO because it has a different situation as compared to Bacoor's. But IMHO, Bacoor is way organized than Imus traffic management.

PGMA urges Cavite officials to prioritize material recovery facilities (http://www.pia.gov.ph/?m=12&fi=p090911.htm&no=82&r=cal&y=&mo=)

by Ruel Francisco

Trece Martires City, Cavite (11 September) -- President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo cited the benefits of putting a Material Recovery Facility (MRF) in every barangay as this will reduce the solid waste disposal of every household in the community and provide additional livelihood opportunities to the residents.

The President made the statement during solid wastes management and climate change briefing held at the Legislative Building session hall of the provincial capitol last September 11, 1009.

The said briefing of the President was her regular schedule (every Friday) to visit a municipality/city as part of the national government's campaign called "Zero Basura" and the reduction of the solid waste disposal to mitigate the impact of global warming.

The President urged the leaders of Cavite headed by Governor Ayong Maliksi to invest in the establishment of MRF because it is much cheaper than building a sanitary landfill.

"Mas importante and MRF in every barangays, it is cheaper that maintaining sanitary landfill and open dumpsites," the President said.

Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Secretary Lito Atienza informed the President during the briefing that he already recommended to Governor Maliksi and to the city and town mayors of the establishment of MRFs in the 650 barangays in the province and the construction of sanitary landfill in Ternate.

According to Secretary Atienza, his office is supporting the sanitary landfill of the provincial government but he told provincial governor that they should prioritize the establishment of the MRF in all barangays in the province.

Secretary Atienza commended the leadership of Governor Maliksi when it comes to waste management program as he cited that out of 829 barangays, twenty percent (180 barangays) have complied in the national government campaign on proper waste disposal.

Although, investing in MRF needs additional funding, the President assured the Governor that the DENR will study the possibility to assist others towns which are not yet capable to raise funds for this project

The President also announced that the Philippine National Police Academy in Silang is allocating certain parcel of land inside its 50 hectares property for the construction of MRF. (PIA-Cavite)

Filipino makes it to 'CNN Top 10 Heroes'

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

by TJ Manotoc, ABS-CBN News | 10/02/2009 7:05 PM

Efren Penaflorida first came to the public's consciousness when his group, the Dynamic Teen Company won the Bayaning Pilipino award for their heroic work in helping kids keep off the streets through education in Cavite.

Since 1997, more than 10,000 volunteers have helped educate more than 1,500 kids in depressed areas of Cavite. It was the work of the young helping the young, the poor helping the poor.

The group upped the ante and bore the Kariton Klassroom, which is a mobile classroom that brings around all their teaching materials to the different areas they service.

This year, Penaflorida was recognized as a CNN hero. He was even interviewed by Larry King.

On Friday morning, veteran CNN anchor Anderson Cooper announced that out of 9,000 nominations, and 28 heroes, Penaflorida made it to the elite list of 10 finalists for CNN's hero of the year.

Disbelief and joy were all over Penaflorida's face, as he could not believe the kind of praise his work continues to get.

He even shared that the honors he has received in the past were more than enough to honor him and his country.

“Hindi ko talaga ine-expect to. Kasi yung una, maging hero pa lang, ok na ok na talaga yun. Pero kahit papano’t s’yempre aasa ka na sana, matuloy-tuloy na. Pero ngayon na nandito na, ang hirap paniwalaan. At itong karangalan na ito ay di lang para sa akin kundi para sa buong sambayangan Pilipino,” he said.

It was a virtual eye of a needle that Penaflorida had to go through from the 28 heroes to make the top 10, specially considering the kind of heroic work that the other 27 heroes from all over the world have done, too.

To give the awards justice, CNN enlisted the help of a blue ribbon judging committee to pick the final 10. These men and women are all accomplished in their fields and recognized too for their humanitarian work.

Names like Whoopi Goldberg, retired US General Colin Powell, Sir Elton John, NBA coach Phil Jackson, Ted Turner, and even TV show Hero's star Masi Oka.

Overwhelmed; prize is P1.2M

All the more, Penaflorida was overwhelmed with making the elite list.

“Nung nalaman ko nga yung mga kasama sa blue ribbon committee na yun, tulad nina Colin Powell, sina Elton John, grabe, bilib ka na sa mga nagawa nila bilang mga humanitarians din, kaya't nakaka-humble talaga na mapili ka pa nila,” he added.

All the 10 finalists now will receive US$25,000 or about P1.2 million, and they will be flown to Los Angeles on November for the final All-Star Tribute night.

There, the ultimate hero will be announced and will receive an additional US$100,000.

He said the money will not go to his use personally but straight to Dynamic Teen Company's efforts to expand their work, particularly in Metro Manila.

“Sa mga panahon, nakita natin ang importansya ng volunteerism at pagmamahal sa bayan, talagang importante na ipakita natin sa mundo ang tunay na bayanihan spirit natin,” said Penaflorida.

The online voting has now begun on the CNN Heroes website.

From the 10 finalists, the public will purely decide via the internet votes who will become the ultimate CNN hero of 2009.

Penaflorida added that he is not making it important to campaign for his own votes, but it’s also more important for the public to learn about all the heroes on the CNN Heroes website and let their stories serve as an inspiration to us all. -- TJ Manotoc, ABS-CBN News

Ternate is an island and town in the Maluku Islands (Moluccas) of eastern Indonesia, located off the west coast of the larger island of Halmahera, the center of the powerful former Sultanate of Ternate. Like its neighbouring island, Tidore, Ternate is a visually dramatic cone-shaped island. The islands are ancient Islamic sultanates with a long history of bitter rivalry. The islands were the world's single major producer of cloves, upon which their sultans became among the wealthiest and most powerful sultans in the Indonesian region. In the precolonial era, Ternate was the dominant political and economic power over most of the "Spice Islands" of Maluku. Today, Ternate is the largest town in the province of North Maluku, within which the island constitutes a municipality (kotamadya).
History
Pre-colonial history
Ternate and neighbouring Tidore were the world's single major producer of cloves upon which their rulers became among the wealthiest and most powerful sultans in the Indonesian region. Much of their wealth, however, was wasted fighting each other. Up until the Dutch completed the colonization of Maluku in the 19th century, the sultans of Ternate ruled empires that claimed at least nominal influence as far as Ambon, Sulawesi and Papua. The peak of its power came near the end of the sixteenth century, under Sultan Baabullah, when it had influence over most of the eastern part of Sulawesi, the Ambon and Seram area, and parts of Papua. It frequently engaged in fierce competition for control of its periphery with the nearby sultanate of Tidore. According to historian Leonard Andaya, Ternate's "dualistic" rivalry with Tidore is a dominant theme in the early history of the Maluku Islands.
In part as a result of its trade-dependent culture, Ternate was one of the earliest places in the region to which Islam spread, probably coming from Java in the late 15th century. Initially, the faith was restricted to Ternate's small ruling family, and spread only slowly to the rest of the population.

Europeans
The first Europeans to stay on Ternate were part of the Portuguese expedition of Francisco Serrão out of Malacca, which was shipwrecked near Seram and rescued by local residents. Sultan Abu Lais of Ternate heard of their stranding, and, seeing a chance to ally himself with a powerful foreign nation, he brought them to Ternate in 1512. The Portuguese were permitted to build a fort on the island, construction of which began in 1522, but relations between the Ternateans and Portuguese were strained from the start.
An outpost far from Europe generally only attracted the most desperate and avaricious, such that the generally poor behaviour of the Portuguese combined with feeble attempts at Christianisation, strained relations with Ternate's Muslim ruler.[3] In 1535 King Tabariji was deposed and sent to Goa by the Portuguese. He converted to Christianity and changed his name to Dom Manuel. After being declared innocent of the charges against him he was sent back to reassume his throne however he died en route in Malacca in 1545. He had though bequeathed the island of Ambon to his Portuguese godfather Jordão de Freitas. Following the murder of Sultan Hairun at the hands of the Portuguese, the Ternateans expelled the Portuguese in 1575 after a five-year siege. Ambon became the new centre for Portuguese activities in Maluku. European power in the region was weak and Ternate became an expanding, fiercely Islamic and anti-Portuguese state under the rule of Sultan Baab Ullah (r. 1570 - 1583) and his son Sultan Said.[4]
Spanish forces captured the former Portuguese fort from the Ternatese in 1606, deported the Ternate Sultan and his entourage to Manila. In 1607 the Dutch came back in Ternate where with the help of Ternateans built a fort in Malayo. The island was divided between the two powers: the Spaniards were allied with Tidore and the Dutch with their Ternaten allies. For the Ternaten rulers, the Dutch were a useful, if not particularly welcome, presence that gave them military advantages against Tidore and the Spanish. Particularly under Sultan Hamzah (r. 1627-1648), Ternate expanded its territory and strengthened its control over the periphery. Dutch influence over the kingdom was limited, though Hamzah and his son and successor, Sultan Mandar Syah (r. 1648-1675) did concede some regions to the Dutch East India Company (VOC) in exchange for help controlling rebellions there. The Spaniards abandoned Ternate and Tidore in 1663. In the 18th century Ternate was the site of a VOC governorship, which attempted to control all trade in the northern Moluccas.
By the 19th century, the spice trade had declined substantially. Hence the region was less central to the Netherlands colonial state, but the Dutch maintained a presence in the region in order to prevent another colonial power from occupying it. After the VOC was nationalised by the Dutch government in 1800, Ternate became part of the Government of the Moluccas (Gouvernement der Molukken). Ternate was occupied by British forces in 1810 before being returned to Dutch control in 1817. In 1824 became the capital of a residency (administrative region) covering Halmahera, the entire west coast of New Guinea, and the central east coast of Sulawesi. By 1867 all of Dutch-occupied New Guinea had been added to the residency, but then its region was gradually transferred to Ambon (Amboina) before being dissolved into that residency in 1922.

Indonesia / Maluku / Ternate
Ternate, an island in northern Maluku, was once the seat of the most important kingdom made rich by the spice trade. The Portuguese, the Spanish and the Dutch vied with each other for influence on this island. A stronghold of Islam in the otherwise predominantly Christian province of Maluku, Ternate nevertheless carries the clear imprints of both its pre-Islamic past and its period of contact with the West, especially the Portuguese. The old sultan's palace in Ternate is now a museum. In the vicinity are the ruins of Old Portuguese, Spanish and Dutch forts. The remnants of the Dutch Fort Orange are right in town. About five kilometers west of the town, on the slopes the 1,715 meter Api Gamalama volcano is Afo, with its giant clove tree, said to be more than 360 years old and the ancestor of all cloves trees in the world.

The connections between Ternate Cavite and Ternate island in Moluccas Indonesia

Ternate Cavite - Ternatenos
TERNATE was originally a sandbar formed at the mouth of the Maragondon River and popularly called Barra de Maragondon. It was swampy and densely covered with mangroves, providing a resting place for natives of Maragondon going out to Manila Bay to fish. In the year 1700, seven Merdica Families consisting of about 200 persons were transferred to the Barra de Maragondon from the old Bagumbayan ( now Ermita ), Manila, to establish their residence there. The Merdicas or Mardicas. Meaning " men of the sea" or "free people" were transferred to Maragondon by the Spanish Authorities because of their frequent brawls with the Tagalogs of Ermita.
Noted for their bravery. The Merdicas were Malays from Ternate in the Moluccas Archipelago, who volunteered to come to Manila along with the Spanish garrison that was pulled out of the Island by Spanish Governor General Manrique de Lara in 1662 to reinforce the defenses of Manila in preparation for a threatened invasion by the Chinese pirate-patriot Koxinga, after he had conquered Formosa from the Dutch. To forestall the repetition of the disastrous Limahong invasion of 1574, the Spanish governor-general ordered the withdrawal of Spanish forces from Zamboanga and the Moluccas and concentrated them in Manila, ready to repel the Koxinga attack. Fortunately for the city residents, the Chinese warlord fell ill and died before he could make a good threat.

Under an agreement with the Spanish governor general the Merdicas were required to provide protection against attacks by Moro pirates, and in return for their services they were taken to the Barra de Maragondon because of frequent Moro raids in that area. The Merdicas chose as a site of their new homes a place near the mouth of the Maragondon River, calling it Gala-la, derived from the name of a tree grew there. They set up a watchtower on top of a hill which they called Mira.

Aside from fishing, the Merdicas cleared the land and tilled the soil. They eventually intermarried with the natives of neighboring villages, building up a community that grew up rapidly and expanded. The most prominent families of the community bore surnames Pereira, Estuebar, De leon, Ramos, De la Cruz, Nigoza, and Ninofranco.

In 1850 the burgeoning Merdica population were able to build from their own funds a stone church, a casa real (tribunal or municipal building), and a school house Under the leadership of Florencio Ninofranco, the community became a regular pueblo or town, and they named it Ternate in memory of their ancestral birthplace in the Mollucas. Pablo de Leon, a wealthy Merdica leader, became the first gobernadorcillo of Ternate. Another source says that Ternate was separated from Maragondon and became an independent municipality in 1863.

The Ternatenos speak a kind of chabacano (a sort of indigenized Spanish) which they inherited from their forefathers. They still use it as a principal means of communication among themselves. However, in writing to their relatives and friends or in conversing with strangers from other towns, they use Tagalog.

Due to the rapid increase in population, a time came when the natural and other resources of the town became inadequate for its needs. In 1856 the alkalde mayor (equivalent to provincial governor) of Cavite ordered the fixing of the boundary between Ternate and Maragondon, giving the former sufficient land for its inhabitants. Ternate was authorized to take under its jurisdiction the barrio of Patungan. However for some unknown reason, barrio Patungan is still under the jurisdiction of Maragondon. Ternate has three barangays in the poblacion and four barrios. These are barangays 1, 2, and 3, and barrios are San Jose, San Juan, Zapang and Bucana.

The Philippine Revolution against Spain (1896-1898) and the subsequent Philippine-American War (1899-1901) had so depleted the population of Cavite Province that the Philippine Commission on October 15, 1903 approved Public Act No. 947 reducing the municipalities of Cavite to nine. Ternate was absorbed by Naik, this situation remaining until 1916 when the Philippine Senate restored Ternate to its former status as an independent municipality.

A most unfortunate happening took place in Ternate in early 1945 when, due to American incendiary bombing and bombardments from naval units, the town was almost wiped out from the map. Only seven out of approximately one thousand houses miraculously survived the man-made holocaust. But the Ternatenos, people of sterner stuff, went on to start life anew, building from the ruins and ashes of war, tilling their lands, doing their daily chore of fishing in the sea, uncomplaining, looking forward to the dawn of a new day in their lives.

History
The Merdicas/Mardicas were a tribe of Malays of Ternate in the Moluccas which was a small Spanish colony. Before this it was a Portuguese colony. Mardicas, meant "People of the Sea". There were originally seven families, whose family names were Nino Franco, De Leon, Ramos, De la Cruz, Esteubar, Pereira, and Nigoza. In 1574, the merdicas volunteered to come to Cavite to support the Spanish against the threat of invasion of the Chinese pirate, Limahong. The invasion did not occur but the community of Merdicas settled in a place, which at first was named "Gilolo" after a tree similar to theirs in the Moluccas. Then it was changed to "Barra de Maragondon" at a sandbar at the mouth of the Maragondon River. Today, the place is called Ternate and the community of Merdicas continued to use "broken Spanish" which evolved into the full-fedged Philippine Spanish creole called Ternateño or Ternateño Chavacano.

In 1663, some Merdicas were ordered by the Governor General to establish themselves in Bagumbayan (now Ermita) and protect Manila. About 200 of them fought against Moro pirates.

Just want to share with you guys this article from GMAnews.tv:

A CNN hero started with a pushcart full of hopes
SOPHIA DEDACE, GMANews.TV

More With an ocean of garbage as his playground as a child, Efren Peñaflorida Jr. was accustomed to living amid the ills of society. The slum area in Cavite province where he grew up abounded with solvent-sniffing kids and tough gangsters. People sifted through dumpsites during the day and slept in the cemetery’s empty crypts at night.

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3470/3989194341_857025f6ac.jpg

It was 1997. Peñaflorida, a gangling 16-year-old youngster back then, was occasionally bullied and beaten by street toughies. No one would have thought that, 12 years later, he would be short-listed by globally known Cable News Network (CNN) as a candidate for its CNN Heroes.

“I grew up really poor. My father was a driver and my mother was a laundrywoman. When I went to school, I experienced being mocked, bullied, discriminated against," said Peñaflorida, the second of three children.

“I wanted to settle scores with the bullies. But I realized I could turn a bad experience into something positive."

At the time, Peñaflorida was part of Club 8586, a youth group in Cavite. His mentor encouraged him to help curb the rampant gang wars and fraternity feuds in their communities, where kids as young as nine years were already involved in violent fights.

‘Pushcart classroom’

Despite having to cope with his own limited means, Peñaflorida formed the Dynamic Teen Company (DTC) with his two peers. The fledgling group ventured into work among destitute and out-of-school youth, teaching them basic literacy skills, values formation, and even personal hygiene.

Armed only with plastic bags loaded with books and school supplies, Peñaflorida and his team roamed the shantytowns of Cavite, offering kids a unique chance to learn useful things in the “street classroom" setting.

Years later, the platform for their mobile classroom would evolve into pedicabs, and eventually into what it is today – a Kariton Klassrum (literally, “pushcart classroom"). The Kariton Klassrum now carries a mini-library, reading aids, blackboards, and even detachable tables and chairs.

Peñaflorida says that his commitment to teach basic literacy to kids is his way of “paying forward" – having been a scholar himself. His elementary and high school education was funded by World Vision Philippines, while his college education was shouldered by Club 8586. Not surprisingly, he took up a degree in Education.

Now 28, Peñaflorida earns a living as a public school teacher in Cavite. On Saturdays, he continues his pushcart classrooms –which have expanded into Manila – with other teen volunteers now reaching 2,000.

Aside from teaching literacy, the group also conducts feeding programs for abandoned street kids who scavenge for food by sifting through heaps of garbage.

Who is a hero?

When the world-renowned Cable News Network (CNN) early this year called for submissions for its annual search for Heroes, Club 8586 nominated Peñaflorida.

The network’s Blue Ribbon Panel sifted through 9,000 nominees from over 100 countries, and soon narrowed down its choices to 28. On October 1 (October 2 in Manila), CNN announced its top 10 finalists for its Hero of the Year. Peñaflorida made the cut.

The word “hero" has been used so loosely, that these days even someone who performs a singular, momentary selfless act like jumping into a river to save a child is quickly declared a hero. But the same public recognition is not so easily earned by a person who performs the same heroic act, quietly and doggedly from day to day.

Peñaflorida (in white) pushes for change. Hub Pacheco file photo
http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2460/3989964630_1e9eefa60f.jpg

Nonetheless, Rezcel Fajardo has no doubt in her mind that Peñaflorida is indeed a hero. One of the co-founders of DTC, Fajardo says she knew from the start that her colleague would be included in the CNN shortlist.

“He is a modern-day hero. He would use his meager salary to buy food for the kids. In fact, he had already pledged the prize money to the children he is helping, should he win," Fajardo said.

But like a real hero who embodies humility, Peñaflorida refuses to take the credit for the honor given by CNN, much less brag about it. He says that his inclusion in the roster of 10 finalists is already an honor in itself.

“This is not about me," he says. “If the people vote for me, they are actually voting for the poor kids DTC is teaching and the dedicated volunteers behind this work."

‘Rainbow after the rain’

Peñaflorida views his inclusion in CNN’s Top 10 as the proverbial “rainbow after the rain" to Filipinos.

On October 2, the country was still reeling from the weeklong floods wrought by storm “Ondoy" when it braced itself anew to face typhoon “Pepeng’s" wrath.

Like many other citizens who volunteered for Ondoy-related relief operations, Peñaflorida joined others in packing and distributing donations to flood-stricken communities in Cavite. True to his mission, his pushcarts turned into relief carts used to collect donated goods.

One of the mobile classrooms turns into a "relief cart" for Ondoy victims. DTC file photo
http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2523/3989194127_b6babdafec.jpg

Peñaflorida says that Anderson Cooper’s announcement of the Blue Ribbon Panel’s decision “gave Filipinos a breath of fresh air, a brief moment to cheer and celebrate, to be inspired all the more" to pursue volunteer work and rebuild our nation.

The many heroes emerging from the Ondoy tragedy inspires Peñaflorida to devote more of himself to the disaster victims in his home province.

“There are many people who rose to the occasion, but their stories remain untold. It’s an honor to represent a nation of heroes," Peñaflorida says. “Indeed, the Filipino is worth dying for," he adds, quoting the famous words of his personal hero, Ninoy Aquino.

With Filipinos abuzz with Peñaflorida’s nomination, the young man recently visited the World Vision office one busy afternoon and was promptly hounded by media. He now confesses he is still unaccustomed to being thrust into the spotlight.

Peñaflorida recalls that he and other DTC volunteers had to endure taunts and rejection for many years, while carrying out their mission. “We’ve experienced being degraded and unwanted, so we just had to bow our heads low while they shouted, ‘Here are the basureros (trash collectors)!’"

Despite the difficulties of bringing education closer to impoverished youth, Peñaflorida finds fulfillment not in awards and other forms of official recognition – not even in the flattery by politicians who have started courting him for their election plans – but in the smiles of the children who rush to meet him when they spot his humble pushcart.

Peñaflorida’s success is not your ordinary rags-to-riches story. While he is no longer hounded by the pangs of hunger and destitution, he continues to offer himself to the underprivileged as an example of a kid who fell victim to violence driven by poverty and yet found a way to lift himself up.

With heroes, the need to catalyze change always leads to endless possibilities. Even if the only possibility at first is to simply start pushing a pushcart. - GMANews.TV

They are everywhere.
They have planted more than 3,000 pine trees (will continue to plant more) in Crosswinds.
You have to visit it to really appreciate how green this place is.

Here are pics from Sept 2008. Since then they have planted more pine trees in the area.

Nice thing is that the pice trees they planted few years ago are getting bigger. And they just keep on planting more.

You can see that they have something like a pine tree farm or something... and when the pine tree is big enough they plant it...

I'm glad Crosswinds is doing this. I hope Tagaytay will have a long-range urban planning and not allow buildings left and right to sprout along the ridge. We don't want another Baguio.

But one thing I notice about Tagaytay is the amount of trash along its main highway. Nakakahiya sa mga visiting guests cuz their first impression will be horrible. I hope the mayor of Tagaytay will get his cue from Mayor Hagedorn of Puerto Princesa on keeping the city free of trash.

With the floodings in the metro Manila lowlands, may may consider moving to higher lands like the areas around Tagaytay. It's really not that far from Manila but we have to do something about our roads and highways. It takes me two hours to commute 50 miles (Makati to Canyon Woods). That's really ridiculous.

Cityhood and lone district ay pwedeng sabay depende sa bill na propose like sa case ng Dasmarinas. kaso sa Dasmarinas ay may bill ang Cavite na reapportion into 7 districts kaya bale wala na ang nakalagay sa Dasmarinas CityhoodHousebill 5258 section 64 also includes the City of Dasmariñas shall have its
own legislative district to commence in the next national election after the
effectivity of this Act

Speaking of Dasma, naalala nyo yung sunog doon sa Paliparan 2 this October?

Can 2 rubber boats save Cavite residents in case of disaster?
By ANTHONY GIRON
October 19, 2009, 6:52pm

Cavite, a province with three million people and tagged by the United Nation Development Program (UNDP) and the National Disaster Coordinating Council (NDCC) as one of the so-called disaster high-risk provinces in the country, has only two rubber boats for search and rescue operations.

Larry Monzon, local Civil Defense deputized coordinator, said Cavite would have to rely on the equipment and personnel of the Philippine Navy, Coast Guard, and other concerned agencies in case the province goes under water after a typhoon.

Cavite is the most populated province in the country, with more than half of the population living in low-land areas.

“We have only two rubber boats. We will be clinging to the equipment and personnel of the Philippine Navy, Coast Guard and other concerned national agencies just in case Cavite will be swamped by floodwater,” said Monzon.

During the interview, Monzon said that the low-land towns should be given concern as they are prone to floods.

Monzon identified the province's flood-prone areas as Bacoor, Kawit, Noveleta, Tanza, Naic, Cavite City, Rosario, and Imus, the province’s capital, among others.

Noveleta, Kawit, Naic, Cavite City, Rosario, and Rosario are the virtual floodwater “catch basins” of the province, he said.

The landslide “high-risk” areas are Tagaytay, Silang, and the other neighboring towns, he said.

“Flashflood almost similar to Rizal and Metro Manila has already happened in Cavite. Who can forget Milenyo's floods and mud in Cavite?” Monzon asked.

The damage caused by typhoon Milenyo in Cavite was more extensive than storm “Ondoy,” said Monzon.

Yes 5 years pa bago mag increase.

Rosa City, Laguna. Ngaun na ata sila nagincrease ng taxes after there cityhood in March 2004

^^ I cannot think of any. His husband and even the surname 'Barzaga' is very popular and they have the support from the administration. She's also doing well.

Regarding the rubber boats, I hope the provincial would address this problem very soon. Metro Manila also has this problem. They have only 6 for the whole metro if I'm not mistaken.

Sana wag agad. Sabi rin ng mga miron eh mukang kakampanya against cityhood etong si Bokal Recto Cantimbuhan (who is rumored to challenge the hold of the Barzagas next year) at ang tropa nya.

speaking of cityhood and bacoor...

Kaya siguro matatagalan. Pinakamatagal siguro ang February.

just a weather update. base from the latest forecast track of Japan Meteorological Agency, lumalabas na dito sa metro manila ang dadaan ng bagyong si SANTI. But if I have to weight the forecast track of both agencies especially sa last na bagyo na si Ramil, lumalabas na mas malapit sa actual na track ang forecast ng JMA as compared to JTWC. Let's just hope na incorrect this time ang JMA. Malalaman natin yan on their next issuance of forecast track come before noon.

Anyway, I haven't seen nor heard of any campaign for the cityhood. No banners, signages, etc. unlike in Bacoor. The residents and the local government seems to be silent about it but let's see in the coming days. I hope the residents will be well-informed and be open-more on the positive side. I'll keep you updated.

Calling the attention of the Tagaytay city mayor. Pakiimprove naman toilet facilities sa Picnic Grove. Napakabaho at nakakahiyang puntahan ng mga bisita. Gayundin sa Palace in the sky. Tagaytay really needs to develop these two areas so as to attract future tourists. As of right now, you can't really view Taal Lake and volcano unless you eat in one those restaurants along the ridge.

oboi
November 9th, 2009, 07:35 PM
^^The city should have made an ordinance long before that future developments must not obstruct the view of the lake and volcano from the hi-way. Before, one can get a good glimpse of the vista upon reaching the junction at the ridge from Sta. Rosa. Now, a viewing deck partially obstructs the view.

I have seen so far 4 types of banners.

Ung ikalawa ay yung pinakamaraming banners. nakalagay dun "YES to Cityhood" Cityhood ay suportahan para sa tutoy tuloy na kaunlaran" Votes YEs on Dasmarinas plebiscite on Nov. 25

Ung ikatlo.

I'm sure susunod agad by 2010 and 2011 ang mga other deserving towns like Bacoor, Imus & Gen Trias. I'm not quite sure para sa Carmona, Rosario and Tanza pero sa tingin ko qualified din

The problem there is that the League of 16 are already planning to raise a howl against these future cities (esp. Dasmariñas; if Dasma does become a city through a plebiscite, dadalhin nila un sa korte -- they want a moratorium of creation of new cities until their issue is resolved with absolute finality; meron pa silang one last hirit after that SC ruling)

ganun?! anong kinalaman ng League of 16 diyan? sa nakikita ko wala silang butas na makikita sa dasma.. qualified na qualified ang bayan namin for cityhood.. and this is our 3rd trial... and me and my family is going to vote YES...

Gov. Maliksi eyeing House seat in Imus

By ANTHONY GIRON
November 20, 2009, 5:43pm
Manila Bulletin

Cavite Governor Ayong S. Maliksi is running for congressman in the newly-reconstituted Imus District.

Alda Lou Cabrera, head of Cavite Provincial Information Community Affairs Department, confirmed the congressional bid of Maliksi who is on his last term as governor of the province.

Cabrera said that Maliksi will proclaim his bid on Sunday in a simple ceremony at his farm in Malagasang, Imus.

In a phone interview, Cabrera also said Imus Mayor Emmanuel L. Maliksi would seek reelection in the town.

Both father and son would run under the banner of Liberal Party of Senators Noynoy Aquino and Mar Roxas, it was learned.

Cabrera made the confirmation on Friday, the first day of the filing of certificate of candidacies (CoCs) for election aspirants in the country.
Imus is the hometown of Maliksi where he was elected first as vice mayor (from 1980-1986) then mayor (1988-98), and congressman of the province’s 2nd District (1998-2001).

A report said that former Representative Gilbert Remulla is also vying for the congressional race in Imus. The young Remulla, a son of former Gov. Johnny Remulla and brother of 3rd District Rep. Jesus Crispin Remulla, is running under the banner of the Nacionalista Party of Senator Manuel B. Villar Jr.

Imus, the capital, is now a lone district in Cavite and so with neighboring Bacoor and Dasmariñas towns under the approved province redistricting.
Congress approved the resolution increasing the number of the province’s legislative districts from three to seven.

With the approved measure, the first district is now comprise of Kawit, Noveleta, Rosario, and Cavite City, with Bacoor as second district; Imus as third district; and Dasmariñas as fourth district. Carmona, General Mariano Alvarez (GMA), and Silang comprise the fifth district, while General Trias, Alfonso, Tanza, and Trece Martires City, the sixth district. Alfonso, General Aguinaldo, Indang, Magallanes, Maragondon, Mendez, Naic, Ternate, and Tagaytay City belong to the seventh district.

.

MUKA NILA... and its a legacy to the first female mayor ng dasma.. history talaga ito.. at gusto ko maging part ng history..

pinaliwanag din ni mayora kung bakit component city at hindi highly urbanized.. sbi niya pag component daw e kasali pa rin tayo sa cavite.. siguro yung tinutukoy niya e we can vote the officials na tatakbo sa lalawigan ng cavite unlike pag highly urabnized e sariling gobyerno ang dasma..

Gov. Maliksi eyeing House seat in Imus

As expected.

And I noticed that among the newspapers/media, Manila Bulletin lang ang nagrerecognize na Imus ang capital of Cavite...

Don't tell me dun din sa LTO na balita ko provincial lot...a lot of Caviteños would see it as a hassle.

:bash:

Imus has lost its glory to Bacoor and Dasmariñas, IMO. And that law making Imus a capital is as pathetic as not doing anything to resolve the Aguinaldo Highway mess.

Why don't he divert the funds in making a "capitol" to liberate the Caviteños from the chronic disease of the lack of urban planning instead? Dumadami na ang mga subdivisions dito sa Cavite pero ang nailalagay pa lang nila na new roads are Daang Hari, Molino Blvd and the Coastal Road Extension na God-knows-when pa matatapos.

What's the use in boasting it as the "cabisera" if Imus is really a mess nowadays!

^^ I actually heard 2 speeches by the gov. ranting why Imus was "left behind" by Dasma. E sus ko, he should be partly blamed. Imus is the first to be classified as the first-class municipality in Cavite but the local officials failed big time.

Sorry to say this but just compare the drainage/canal along Aguinaldo Hi-way between Imus & Bacoor+Dasma. Also, the traffic condition in Imus is worse than Bacoor! Buhos system there is not even effective. It just shows who among the local execs have the political will.

Imus is still on the top richest municipalities right? ayusin naman sana nila.

It's ironic that big names in Cavite politics were from Imus. :sleepy:

For me, Imus and Bacoor are no where near Dasmarinas in terms of development nowadays. Infrastructure development and a sort of urban planning are more evident in Dasma than in Imus and Bacoor.

But Im hopeful, Imus can reclaim its glory in the future.

MANILA, Philippines – For his innovative “Kariton Klasrum” (pushcart classroom) Filipino educator Efren Peñaflorida has been awarded by CNN as “2009 Hero of the Year.”

Peñaflorida was awarded during the CNN Heroes: An All-Star Tribute at the Kodak Theater in Hollywood. He received his award from American actress Eva Mendes.

He bested nine other nominees from different countries for the Hero of the Year award. The nominees were initially selected by a panel of 14 “Blue Panel” luminaries but the Hero of the Year award is given to the one with the most number of online votes in the CNN Heroes website.

Peñaflorida would be the first Filipino to become a nominee of the annual CNN Heroes awards and the first to Filipino to win the top prize.

The project, already in its third year, is a tribute by the international news organization to selfless humanitarian acts of individuals from different countries.

In his acceptance speech, quoted by CNN, Peñaflorida said: “Our planet is filled with heroes, young and old, rich and poor, man, woman of different colors, shapes and sizes. We are one great tapestry. Each person has a hidden hero within, you just have to look inside you and search it in your heart, and be the hero to the next one in need.”

"So to each and every person inside in this theater and for those who are watching at home, the hero in you is waiting to be unleashed. Serve, serve well, serve others above yourself and be happy to serve. As I always tell to my co-volunteers ... you are the change that you dream as I am the change that I dream and collectively we are the change that this world needs to be."

Peñaflorida will receive $100,000. This will be used to fund his work in the Dynamic Teen Company, a volunteer organization that he put up to conduct his “Kariton Klasrum” program.

Peñaflorida’s program conducts weekly visits to poor and underserved areas in Cavite, north of Luzon, to teach young people basic lessons in Mathematics, English, and Science using only a specially designed pushcart.

In a previous interview, Peñaflorida said he will continue holding weekly lessons and hopes that it will encourage other people to lend time to help others in need.

I'm getting frustrated and hopeless. We thought that having a son and a father in the seat of power would provide opportunities also for Imus...but we were wrong.

I've seen Imus declined past Bacoor and Dasma. At least for Bacoor, even if it's mushy mushy like that but at least they have provided street lights for the whole stretch of Aguinaldo Highway and Evangelista Street, opened up Molino Boulevard.

Imus...I have to wait for a big infrastructure project beyond that overpriced plaza and Daang Hari (which is partly of the Nacionalista Villar, ally of the Remullas).

I have to wait also for the road linking Coastal Road extension and Daang Hari which was supposed to be commencing.

Rosanna Roces maraming ibubulgar laban sa pamilya-Revilla (http://www.journal.com.ph/index.php?issue=2009-11-23&sec=3&aid=107780)

By: Ed De Leon

In the first place inalagaan niya ang kanyang apo dahil nakatira iyon sa ina no-on na anak naman niya.

==================

Pidi as governor ng Cavite in the near future. I'm not against. In fact I will support him. Kailangan ng Cavite ng tulad nya in my opinion only.

I am from Bacoor. And I might give Peter Abaya the chance to lead Bacoor. (to borrow the Abayas' slogan: ABANTE BACOOR!)

2) Kasabwat si Strike ng kanyang kuya sa PANG-AAGAW ng proyekto na dapat si BF ang nagsagawa (ung road widening ng Aguinaldo Hi-way from Bacoor to Trece/Tagaytay) --> Strike: "Literally, Bacoor is not MM, so (BF) has no business in doing the road widening even if atas pa ng presidente yan"
3) His post repaintings of predominantly yellow are more and more of becoming a f'ing eyesore
4) Minamadali ang cityhood (shades of Jessie Castillo?)

Si Castillo? Wag na. Utang na loob.

And I'd rather give justice first to the League of 16 than give Dasma & Bacoor cityhood at the expense of the League of 16 -- trabaho na yan ng CA.

Lani Mercado, 2 politicians bare congressional bid in Cavite (http://www.tempo.com.ph/news.php?aid=51663)

Movie and television personality Lani Mercado, Governor Ayong S. Maliksi and Representative Elpidio Barzaga have proclaimed their congressional bid in Cavite.

Lani, wife of Senator Ramon "Bong" Revilla, would run in the district of Bacoor, Maliksi, who is on his last term as provincial governor, in Imus and Barzaga in Dasmarinas.

Lani and Barzaga made their congressional pronouncement in gatherings before the start of the filing of certificates of candidacies (CoCs) last Friday. Maliksi proclaimed his bid last Sunday at Villa Emilia farm in Barangay Malagasang I, Imus.

Lani was endorsed by Mayor Strike Revilla and his clan in recent political meetings in Bacoor. Senator Revilla announced Lani’s bid as early as October. Like the senator, Lani would run under the party of presidential aspirant Gilbert "Gibo" Teodoro.

Maliksi, who was elected three times as provincial governor starting in 2001, declared his congressional bid before a throng of supporters during the simple proclamation gathering at his farm.

Barzaga, incumbent 2nd District House representative, said he would seek reelection in the new district of Dasmarinas, his homeown. He confirmed his bid in media interviews.
