Below I have a collection of pics from Nankana Sahib (Near Sheikupura) and Panja Sahib (Hasan Abdul, Rawalpindi) these pics are taken by a Yatra in 2005, pics courtesy of the Sikh Museum.

I think it is great to see the upkeep of Sikh Gurudwaras and historical places in Pakistan, long may it continue!!!!!

This was Quaid e Azam's wish that the minorities lived in peace and that they were not harmed and neither were their places of worship.

There are quite a lot of sikh people who come here every year.

The numbers are growing every year, I think the Pak Government have to be applauded, especially Cheif minister of Punjab Pervaiz Elahi and also the PGPSC (Pak Gurudwara committee)

Its the first time i have seen these pictures and i have to say that they look beautiful, i have to say one thing here that no matter what religion you are, people of pakistan(muslims or non muslims) you are always allowed to perform your rituals not like some other countries where people arent allowed to openly practice there religion.

gr8 pictures ...

During my trip to Pakistan in 1997 ..I saw a couple sikhs there. In Peshawar all the sikhs I saw were merchants. (havin cloth shops in Karkhanao Bazaar and a music shop in Saddar Bazaar. I even saw sikhs in SWAT.
I was told the largest population of sikh in Pk is in NWFP and FATA. I was surprised!

:applause: I had never before seen pictures of such large gatherings of Sikhs freely performing their religious rituals in Pakistan (except when I saw Larki Punjaban).

Hope all religious minorites, muslims & non-muslims, in Pakistan can openly enjoy their religious freedom and others learn to live in peace with that, amen.

which pictures are of Nankana Sahib and which are of Panja Sahib ?

The larger golden colored building is 'nankana sahib' and the smaller white colored one is 'panja sahib'.

Edit: Few of the pics are not of either of these two gurdwaras.

Does anyone have pictures of the Sikh community in Peshawar and in FATA? For being a very conservative city, Peshawar has a rather large community of native and Afghan Sikhs. Many of the Afghan Sikhs are shopowners in Karkhana. The last time I visited Panja Sahib, I noticed that the vast majority of Sikhs there were speaking Pakistani Pashto, and not Punjabi.

Great pics.. I knew about the pilgrimage Sikhs take every year into Pakistan but I didn't think it was this many! Hopefully the Pakistani government continues to improve the accomodations so we can host more.

And people say that we are not Tolerant! :|I think everyone is quite happy to see Sikhs visit Pakistan while boosting Nankana Sahib's economy. They seem well-mannered and probably leave the city as clean as when they came, so there's not much to really tolerate.. I bet Nankana Sahib can't wait until they come again actually.

Our country is extremely tolerant (and intolerant) otherwise.. but using this as an example I think is selling ourselves really short!

I guess like green is to us, saffron to hindus :|

Hope mods don't mind, if I use this thread to bring to light the plight of some Sikh buildings etc, waiting for some TLC.

Here is a 160 years old tomb of Jamrud fort defender against invading Afghans, Mahan Singh, in Gujranwalla.

A better thread for that would be, HERITAGE being destroyed! (http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showthread.php?t=258712)
