arijeetb June 19th, 2006, 11:27 PM The Rohtang Pass connects the Kullu Valley with the Lahul and Spiti valleys of Himachal Pradesh. At an altitude of 3,978 Mts ( a little above 13000 ft) on the highway to Keylong, the pass affords a wide-spread panorama of mountain scenery. Here the visitor's eye meets a range of precipitous cliffs, huge glaciers and deep ravines.
I have tried to capture some of the grandeur during my trip in May 2006 which I am posting in this thread.
arijeetb June 19th, 2006, 11:39 PM Starting off at the "base station" Manali for a 51km journey till the top.
The river Beas accompanies us for most of the journey right from the foothills of Chandigarh

IndiansUnite June 20th, 2006, 02:59 AM The 'Road Ahead' is a crazy-ass pic! Reminds me of my school trip to Mussorie. We were walking down a steep mountain trail with the trail being just approx 1 meter wide towards Kempty Falls,a popular tourist attraction in Mussorie. One wrong decision and that was it. In fact I slipped once and was fortunate that there were small plants on which I quickly grabbed on to. Thank God the Plant was there :)
kronik June 20th, 2006, 05:27 PM great pictures Arijeet. Please consider them posting as thumbnails due to their large size. takes a while to load up.

I have been to himachal, but only to Shimla and Kufri, as any other usual tourist. Eager to see Kulu, Manali, Lahual & spiti etc. Pending in the list is Ladakh in J&K and Uttaranachal. Hope to cover all in one trip.
arijeetb June 21st, 2006, 12:30 AM Thanks Guys!! Visiting these sorts of places is bound to give anyone a new high :)
arijeetb June 21st, 2006, 12:44 AM We were stuck for about 2 hours on the 1/2 lane road. Short sighted people had simply parked their cars and continued the rest by horses or on foot adding onto everyone's woes coming from below.

grimmm September 7th, 2006, 01:15 PM So, if the gacchibowli x roads is part of the ORR, is it being extended from kondapur, kothaguda junction?

The flyover in this pic seems to be on cards.
this may be to help the straight traffic from M'patnam on the Old Bombay Road to cross the junction
where ORR meets Old Bombay Road @ Gachibowli. some one familiar with the area presently could confirm...

This linear stretch starts at Gachibowli Jn and joins the outer ring somewhere near Narsingi ...

arijeetb January 2nd, 2007, 07:26 PM Hello,
In this forum specifically dedicated to Kolkata I have primarily tried to bring out the following:
1. Images of a bygone era when Kolkata was witnessed the development of grand colonial architecture like no other Indian city
2. Current physical Infrastructure
3. The "New Town"
arijeetb January 2nd, 2007, 07:41 PM Established around 1845, Royal Insurance buildings along with the Writers, GPO and HSBC buildings is an important constituent of "BBD Bag Square".

It was built between 1906 and 1921. It is a majestic white marble building at the southern end of the Maidan and surrounded by a sprawling garden.

This road is called 'Queensway' probably because it is next to the Victoria Memorial Museum. One can take rides on horse drawn carriages along this road.
Many roads & streets around this part of Kolkata have retained the original British names.

arijeetb January 8th, 2007, 07:46 PM Rajarhat, also called New Town, new 'IT Hub' of West Bengal, is the latest township being developed on the north-eastern fringes of Kolkata city. The master plan envisons a township so big that is thrice the size of neighbouring Salt Lake City.
Rajarhat is being developed in 'Action Areas'. The Action Area I is being developed first and is adjacent to Salt Lake's Sector V, so as a natural extension, a large number of software companies have already started setting up their facilities in this part of the township
Some major projects on the anvil are:
Axis Mall by Bengal Peerless
Block-by-Block mall by Bengal Shrachi
City Centre 2 by Bengal Ambuja
Uttara Abasan by Bengal DCL
The Terminus mall cum bus terminus by Bengal Greenfield
Tata Memorial Hospital
IIT Kolkata campus by IIT Kharagpur (News on the The Statesman)
'Olive Gardens' bungalow township by Canopy Projects Pvt. Ltd.

Thanks for sharing Arijeet.
PVNR expressway works: while works on the foundations for piles are in progress at site,
the fabrication works for moulds and pre-stressed segments are in progress at off-site yard(s).
Once the piles are done, progress would look much better.
Hope, they will transplant those trees elsewhere.
Babji March 21st, 2007, 03:10 AM Even in the late 90s, many Civil Engg Grads used to undergo Computer Trg courses, to find jobs. Now, Most of the construction companies, esp Govt agencies like HUDA and MCH are finding it hard to find and retain suitable Civil Engg candidadtes.
Shortage of Engg staff is one of the main reasons cited by MCH and HUDA for slow progress of road widening and other construction projects...

Presently the journey to the Begumpet airport from most parts of the city is very little and the "new extended distance to HIAL" should also involve a mindset change from the part of the commuter.

The central region is a burgeoning one including huge population from Mehdipatnam to Secundrabad and passing thru affluent parts of Banjara HIlls, Jubilli hills, Punjagutta, Somajiguda, Begumpet..all the way to Secundrabad.it will bear the brunt of the movements to and from HIAL...hence the urgent need to complete the expressway in time.

looks like this is the main access road for the Financial District.
West of Old Mumbai road, this road connects Old Mumbai road - Nanakramguda - Financial Dist - Gopanapally (towards WestNorthWest).
East of Old Mumbai road, it connects (Durgam Cheruvu) - JubileeHills Road no 45 - (Madhapur - HiTech City or) Jubilee Hills Road No1, leading to Krishnanagar main road or Srinagar Colony Road.

Guess one has to travel and see where one lands up:) West of Old Mumbai Rd( DPS) leads to the IT hub & Financial district about 4 km away
currently the road to the IT hub and financial district west of Old Mumbai road is dug up especially where the ORR passes it at Nanakramgua and some stretches are nothing less than a dirt track...if they have a 4 lane road leading right into the hub bypassing the village that would be great.

Hyderabad has good road width however lack of proper maintenance has taken a toll on them. Many of them look shabby today. A classic example is the Mumbai road which was made 6 lane sometime back however the extreme lanes in many stretches lie under sand and dirt:ohno:
