Currently, our one looks much worse for sure. Let's see what happens when it's build in 2009-2010. At least, Zenica one is almost ready as I see, while the Ruse Mall is its very early stages of construction.

Croatia's biggest shopping centre has finally commenced construction after years of planning. Located just outside the capital city of Zagreb at Zapresic on the motorway towards Ljubljana (Slovenia), the new 220,000 sqm complex will open mid 2009.

The project called "Shopping Centre Zagreb" will be built in stages. Once fully completed the zone will house a whopping 1 million square metres of retail space. The shopping centre below known as "West Gate" will be the centrepiece. "West Gate" has been designed to represent a "necktie", a Croatian invention. :)

One thing is for sure, Polish malls , in both design and style, stand head & shoulders above everything else currently existing or U/C in rest of Eastern Europe. During my week long stay in Poland this past April, I was literally blown away. And im not even much of a shopper.:)

Show us your nice malls instead of telling us bullshit. These malls posted here are on the european continent which means 3% of Turkey. If we start posting malls from all corners of Turkey you'll start to feel even worse.

If it does, can you compare the small Manhattan Mall to those huge monsters in Istanbul as prices and prestige?

WTF? Asian mentality? Why? Because I told you to show yours instead of telling us that these malls are asian although they are on european contient? What is this "europness" bullshit that all Bulgarians are talking about anyway? You talk to some Bulgarian members and every second sentence they speak out is being "european" etc.. Is that something which makes you proud or do you think it is something special? Just tell what was "asian mentaliy" in my post! Let me tell you something! People talk about others' things if they don't own it and this is simply the case here. Just stop telling us about asian continent or asian mentality, show us pictures!

^^ Since Baneasa Shopping City will probably be connected to "Feeria", maybe that one will be the biggest mall, if you include Mobexpert, Carrefour & shopping gallery and Media Galaxy.

http://www.baneasa.ro/baneasa-comercial-spatii-comerciale.html

Baneasa Shopping City ... 85.000 sqm
Carrefour + Galeria Feeria ... 32.500 sqm
Mobexpert ... 23.000 sqm

Total ... 140.500 sqm

And the performance hall will also be connected to the mall.

GLA: 120,000 sqm

^^ will be the largest one in romania?right?

Answer
^^ Since Baneasa Shopping City will probably be connected to "Feeria", maybe that one will be the biggest mall, if you include Mobexpert, Carrefour & shopping gallery and Media Galaxy.

http://www.baneasa.ro/baneasa-comercial-spatii-comerciale.html

Baneasa Shopping City ... 85.000 sqm
Carrefour + Galeria Feeria ... 32.500 sqm
Mobexpert ... 23.000 sqm

Total ... 140.500 sqm

And the performance hall will also be connected to the mall.

I am a fan of changing old industrial factories/buildings into malls. That's what's happening all over Poland. Besides prominent locations such finished projects offer uniqueness that differenciates them from your typical big box modern malls located on the outskirts.

I will be posting many such projects from Poland in the future (hopefully you will find them interesting).

Here is a good example of integration of all buildings into a larger shopping space.

Bydgoszcz, Poland - Focus Park will be open in a week.

I wish we had a shopping village like that here close to Krakow, much nicer than a mall.
I can say that the amount of Malls U/c in Poland is huge, most are smaller than 150 shops though, there are a few really big ones u/c though.

Wow.:ohno:
It is so sad to see europe being plagued with these crappy malls, seems like the lessons from North America have not been learnt at all. What a disgrace to otherwise beautiful cities.
That village looks a little bit better, somehow imitating pedestrian environment, but is just too fake with that disneyland architecture and still is a car-oriented commercial.

^^IMO Renoma is excellent, as it looks modern thou it was bulit in 30's. Other malls on this page are rather crappy, and the Wertheim Village sucks the most.

From what i have seen here, I could say the best malls of Europe are in Turkey followed by Russia and Poland.

Unfortunately, there are not so many malls in Azerbaijan. Almost all the brands from different levels have stores in Azerbaijan. But it is more on the street level. Even now our people prefer street level shopping rather than malls. The modern mall culture came to my country only in 2006 with the opening of th first modern mall "Nargiz" in downtown Baku. But since that time some new malls were opened and around 10 malls are under construction in Baku and in other cities as well.

There are more shopping malls with 10.000 to 15.000 sq m. But it is hard to find pictures and info of them. And they are catering to the residents of the respective district anyway.

Actually I've also forgot to mention the HSH Nordbank Passage. But it is not really worth to be shown anyway.

And yeah, Mellin is a real little gem. Too bad that it is so small.

IMO Hamburg has the most beautiful shopping area in the World!
The combination of lakes, canals, bridges, streets and passages is unique.

Photos from my visit to the shopping complex in Spata, some 20km east of Athens, between the Athens metro area and the Athens International Airport in the area of Yalou, (Γιαλού) on the eastern outskirts of Athens greater area. Tis area, previously unpopulated now hosts a zoo, and a very large commercial complex is now in various stages of development.

The sketchy details about this development are as follows:

There are two separate developments that are simply adjacent (and hopefully connected in the future by an air-bridge or something).

The first one, whose pictures you will see below is a Discount "Village", i.e. an open shopping center there the shops offer discounted items at reasonable to cheap prices. The particular complex has been built and is operated by Mc Arthur Glen, who, despite the overall negative economic situation believe that it is going to be successful. True, the first week's figures seem encouraging and the center, besides the shops offers a beautifully arranged and picturesquely designed food court. The overall leasable space of the village is 25,000 square meters although there are ample spaces in between shops creating a unique combination of large plazas, corridors, atria, pedestrian air-bridges, etc.

The second part of the complex is right across the street and is under construction by Reds Development. Its leasable area will be some 55,000 square meters.

Upon completion these two complexes will offer a unified shopping and entertainment complex of some 80,000 square meters which will be the largest in Greece as at the time of this writing (the Mall Athens has an area of 67,000 square meters commercial space).

I have been to the Mc Arthur Glen village which is now fully open and below you can see some pictures. The large building with the red and orange wall seen in three pictures is the Smart Shopping Center still under construction by REDS Development.

Smart Park Hybrid Mall - Mac Arhtur Glenn Discount Village - Spata - Attica - Update April 2012

Following some earlier photo shooting sprees from last summer on this complex which in full development will comprise a total of 80.000 square meters of retail space allocated for the most part of it in a type of hybrid mall (http://www.gfk-geomarketing.com/en/customer_magazine_enews/gfk_geomarketing_magazine/022011/hybrid_malls.html) type of space arrangement at least for the large stores which normally constitute "anchor" names and if developed in a single plot with no connection to neighboring stores or relevant establishments they are known as "retail boxes".

An aerial image of the overall development in advanced construction progress, not including the full as at today or planned, (i.e. phase III), can be seen here:
