Grant Park area under annexation study
Tampa Bay Business Journal - 8:51 AM EDT Thursday, August 16, 2007

A study is under way to determine Tampa's feasibility of annexing and providing services to an area in the Grant Park neighborhood. Currently the area is in an unincorporated part of Hillsborough County.

Most of Grant Park is within the city of Tampa limits that the Grant Park Civic Association established in 2005. The area being studied for annexation is bounded on the north by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, on the east and south by Interstate 4 and on the west by 56th Street.

The 75.1-acre area has 238 properties, including 196 homes, is home to 620 residents and has a taxable value of $18.8 million.

The study and its resulting report will determine the potential impact on city revenues, costs on timing of services and the planning associated with annexation. The city and the Grant Park Civic Association will hold a community meeting on Oct. 1 at the Grant Park Recreation Center, 3724 N. 54th Ave., to present the results of the study.

Also I read during the winter that the city was looking into annexing some of Palm River also.

Very strange to aspire to annex that area - not a big tax revenue generator. Not htat I object; Maybe they are trying to consolidate political groupings in the fight with the county

Tampa should really look into annexing Brandon and its suburbs, Mango, Seffner, Riverview, Dover, and others.

Beyond, some sort of political posturing, I cannot really see the logic in annexing this area either. It seems to me that it would be more beneficial if at all possible to annex north to the Pasco County line or East as mentioned earlier, similar to what they gained through the annexation of New Tampa under Grecco.

There is not much population out that way. Maybe they plan on rezoning this area to Heavy industrial. We are losing some of the traditionally industrial areas, such as Channelside, Ybor, Cass and Rome area.
I'm totally speculating!!!
