Stocks Division: Stocks Building (Western Cape) (Pty) Limited

Project Type: Office Parks and Buildings

Contract Value: R134,5 million

Start Date: July 2006

Physical Address: Monte Carlo Building
44 Hertzog Boulevard
Foreshore
Cape Town

Project Overview: The existing 44 Hertzog Boulevard building is being revamped for Sage Trust Investments as part of the inner city revitalisation programme. The project includes alterations and renovations of three existing buildings consolidated into one mixed commercial building with retail, office areas and a parking garage. The existing tower block is being 'widened' to the north and south to enlarge the floor areas. A new structure has to be constructed through the existing building from ground level, including new piling, to the fifth floor and upward. Construction also includes a new 'Link' - a 12-storey construction housing a circular ramp to the six parking levels from the fourth and ninth floors. Five floors, the basement, ground floor and first floor are being constructed through the existing atrium of the 'new' Broadmont building to house a BMW Dealership. A dramatic showcase, all in glass will protrude from the building as a 'display box' for a Mini motorcar!

i'd have to agree.. Joburg is in a shambles atm, why how i envy a competent municipality :(

^^ i personally would blame joburgers more than the municipality. certainly i think our mayor does a pretty good job. I think what makes Cape Town so nice is that Capetonians have much pride in their city, and are personally bothered when the environment in which they live looks crap. Also, i think that Capetonians are far more 'outdoorsey' (maybe it's a coastal thing?) and so the collective environment in which they live means a lot to them. Just my :2cents:

I have to admit that Joburg could really beautify the CBD more with wide boulevards, fountains and central parks. Having said that, the Newtown effort is a great step forward. And also updating the buildings facades would do a lot in modernising the city's exterior.
BTW, I remember some discussion previously about submerging the vast railway yards at Park Station, and cover it with an urban park? A sort of Central Park. That would do wonders. Perhaps a huge lake, with a Waterfront could be created in the East city, around Ellis Park.

I disagree that CT is the best CBD as far as public spaces goes, Check out brother pules pics and Joeyies shits on CT and DBN as far as public art goes. Its also amazingly clean (yes there are dirty areas like all cities), but the one thing that stood out in Pules pics was the greenery, public art, street furniture etc

Yes I think it might have been a thesis from many moons ago - don't think anything came of it. Nowadays it's only something that sits and festers in my dreams...
