Fantastic. I mean it's surely no Herzog, but still. From what I see this will be a complete remodelling of the current ground- location and light-masts seem to fit. Changing the current Tsentralnyj Stadion to something like this- my apllause. :)

Is this a brand new stadium, or a renovation? If it's brand new, then why on earth do they have the shape of an athletic track around the field? It just kills any unique shape as well as atmosphere and intimacy.

^^The stadium is new, but it will be build in place of old one. Honestly, i believe that the stands will be closer to the pitch than shown in the rendering.

When Ukraine and Poland submitted their bid for Euro Odesa's and Kharkiv's mayors expressed no desire to participate. However, later in the bidding process thay did apply to become reserve cities.

Lviv and Dnipropetrovsk were chosen because Lviv among all cities Lviv draws most tourists, and Dnipropetrovsk is best prepared at the moment.

Didn't really like the old project but this new one looks very good.
It's really a shame this is only reserve.

Yes, it was attracting tourists from all over Europe since 1800's, but then was shut off from the world during the communism, now it's popular again. It's like a Mediterranean city

The club will pay for the stadium, and trust me it will pay off! The piece of land that stadium is standing on is just a few meters from Arkadia beach (the most popular one in Odesa, if not Ukraine) and is situated in a pictureque park, and in addition to the stadim bowl comes a nice piece of land which will be full of hotels, malls, clubs, casinos and restaurants. This is what will make the whole project profitable. A

Surely they will change the venue in the future, as this isn't capable of holding even half of that, if not just for the revenue for the Ukrainian FA and or atmosphere. Decent stadium seems quite compact, nice location too.

Notice one side of the stadium will resemble a tip of a ship, this will symbolise city’s and club’s connection to a sea.

The waved roof of this stadium reminds me of the wave in the ocean. Its symbolization of sea is good indeed but it would have been better to have the original 50K capacity.

I don't know. There is in news no information about the capacity of the stadium. The capacity is probably the same, if necessary slight changes took place. Unfortunately but a complete misinformation is ruling about stadiums in the Ukraine, I am reliable, that Odessa Euro 2012 will be an organizer, without more considerable problems he will fulfil the requirements relative to the infrastructure and the stadium, and different cities have considerable problems with the infrastructure.

I liked the previous design more at first, but now I'm okay with the latest design. After all, it corresponds to the southern atmosphere and style that Odessa has pursued for a long time.

As far as I know, construction also lasts on the podium behind the goal. Unfortunately little an information is feeling about construction of this stadium, I didn't find building schedule whether even if of general description of works.

I like how it looks, might be nice thanks to it's size to host games in 2012. It would a nice thing for Romanians especially if we qualify and actually get the chance to play there. I trip from Constanta is some hours on boat and it's difficult by car because you need to cross the Moldavian Republic for 2 km :rock: and stop to bribe the smart guys.

Same here. This is also good for Ukraine getting major stadium the with roofs and stuff. I just hope they will finish in time for Euro 2012. Oh and btw, Poland needs to speed up, i mean Ukraine has almost 3 Euro stadium complete, and Poland has none. Come on Pol's, we cant host Euro by ourselves if your stadiums are not complete:)

Guys, official website says the capacity is 34 858, not 40+. This would mean it will grow by only some 500 seats compared to the old one. Any comment on that? Is that a change or depends on the way they count the seats? But even if, there's only 200 VIP seats and 680 media ones if I see correct. so still a lot less.

thanks, though I hoped some of our Ukrainian friends would clear this out. As for changes - I think the thread name should be furtther changed because its no longer a Euro 2012 reserve venue, it has been ruled out in May, just like Dniepropietrovsk, Krakow and Chorzow. According to Platini, there is no option for these to get back in the game so, unless it was agreed somewhere before to leave it as a sign of what was reserve, I would suggest to drop the Euro 2012 thing in these 4 stadiums.

Donetsk im sure will be chosen since they are like 98% complete with their stadium. Kharkiv also will probably join since they are soon going to wrap up their construction.

it doesnt matter if the lviv stadium will be ready by atleast summer 2011, most of the Polish stadiums will only be completed in 2011, and today is the year 2009, Ukraine has 2 stadiums that are 100% completed and 1 stadium that is 95% completed. Probably the reason why the lviv stadium is delayed is because they also are working a lot on the infrastructure, and because of the crisis, its hard to get things done here.

Nice job Ukrainians, in my city we're also building our new stadium. Finally we'll get a real european arena. Personally I support the Lviv stadium because my family come from the old polish Lwów. After war they were transported to Wrocław like many polish. I'm so happy that we can make this Euro toghether ;) Take care!

The problem with Odessa hosting the tournament is the fact that they don't have enough hotels, and they will not be able to reconstruct their tiny airport in time. The infrastructure on the other hand is actually beautiful, the architecture is amazing, but still, a lot of work needs to be done. There is this one huge 4 star hotel that I stayed in and it's amazing, Its called "Hotel Odessa" typical isn't it? :)

i think thats why they counted off odessa because of the lack of hotels. they could reconstruct the airport if its not in a bad condition.

The contract with the Chinese corporation

Delegation of the largest in China, National Engineering Engineering Corporation, headed by the general manager of San Bayem was in Odessa on May 29-31.

The Chinese delegation which was welcomed by Chairman of the Regional Council Nikolai Skorikov, met with President of FC Chernomorets Leonid Klimov and visited the construction of a stadium in the park named after Shevchenko.

That meeting resulted in signing agreement between FC Chernomorets and the Corporation of China on the financing of new stadium construction by Chinese side and its participation in the arena construction.

As for design. On that videopresentation one could find that highrises in front of the stadium had vanished. But i don't think any other principle changes are possible, because the stadium construction is already in some point of progress where there is no way for such changes.

The construction atm is very slow for some reason, theres practically nothing going on there, well at least this is just a reserve stadium, and no wonder why Lviv started to pick up the pace.

Come on man, let's be serious. :) We cannot compare the two stadiums.
And you are wrong. They started the construction of that stadium in Ploiesti at the end of September, last year, so 6 months ago, and they planned to finish it in August, so in 5 months from today. That makes a total of minimum 11 months! Also the stadium in Ploiesti will have only 17.000 seats (not 20k, and not 35k) and they didn't have to pour any big concrete foundations or underground levels. Basically they just leveled the ground and installed the supporting pillars, and after that was all lego, as you said.
Here, in Odesa, we are talking about a serious construction, every stand is a different building, not just a few columns like in Ploiesti (http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showpost.php?p=73673987&postcount=439), so i'm sure that it will take a bit more to build.

These two buildings will not be constructed.
The stadium is located in the green zone (in the parK) and the public opposed the construction of these two buildings.
Plus Odessa will not take part in Euro 2012 and the big necessity in these hotels aren't.

Seriously, I love it. It got a lot of victorian details and ist pretty nic for 30.000. Not like those other precasted concrete metal & glas setups.

That's such an interesting and nice facade. A combination of old and new and in my opinion it works really well. Can't wait to see the finished article!
