How is this location on the whole? Ive been down Smith before, & its pretty busy, not the ideal place I would put a development like this, but that was a good 5-6 years ago, not sure how things are now.

It's still not the ideal place I would put a development either. The one corner (next to the highway) looks really grungy, and it faces onto a very busy road.

I think Pace would have been wiser maybe to clump their developments closer together, and then spread out. They could then concentrate on some ground retail in that area.

But they'll have success in their development, I think, because I think there is a large need for lower-priced accommodation in Braamfontein that would appeal to students at Wits.

I agree with you Joburg, Wits supplies all these low cost developments with students for accomodation.

I hope they are gonna do something to make that area more brigther and attractive.

Do you guys remember that developments Wits wanted to initiate on the corner of Jorrisen and Jan Smuts? I think it included an art gallery where the Shell petrol station is, and the reopening of the round restaurant on top of University Corner?

Its first time I hear about that and hey that could have been a rocka. Just ask Neil Fraser about it, who knows he might contact those who wanted to do those renovations and the interest might be there again.

Imagine seating in that resturant looking at te city over Nelson Mandela Bridge. Damn that was gonna be nice. Tom please contact Neil about this.

Those warehouses across the road would make for chic industrial-style living. If only, however, one could get rid of those dreadful railway tracks next door.

One thing I have to say is that Braamfontein needs night clubs, better resturants and coffee shops.

Simple Blue is in Braamies. :D And which ones is that? I remeber that they had gay clubs at some point but they were shut down. It seems like the building where they were located has been sold.

I hope that the next owner will renew the place have more of gay clubs for Jozi gay community.

There's plenty of entertainment for us the straights but I have never seen anyone one night club nor a pub that is gay/lesbian specific, correct me if I'm wrong.

hehe.. Yeah Simply Blue is next to the gay clubs that you mentioned. It's also a gay club and still does pretty well. The other gay clubs were part of a complex called the Heartlands, which seemed to do really well when i used to go there. And then for some reason the owner shut shop and formed another company that has regular and outrageously priced gay parties at zooty straight clubs in Joburg. The latest one was at Tokyo Sky in Fourways.

There are quite a few gay clubs/bars in and around Gauteng, the most popular one at the moment being Risque in Fourways.

Yeah there are quite a few in Jozi actually. They just aren't necessarily well known.

It looks some how yummy, its a pitty I couldn't take pics because o fthe traffic. I still say there's a need for coffee shopans and resturant around that part of Braamfontein.

well you know... that's where all the gays hang now. they used to be on my doorstep.

But where do they go to? Risque? That place is so sad.

Some updated construction pics - this will be a very nice area once done! And good news? The old closed down clubs of the heartlands district are getting some attention. No idea what they will be, but there is work going on there.
