micrip January 16th, 2011, 08:57 AM Amazing how the worm turned in the 2nd half. This could be the most heartbreaking loss in Baltimore history. I'm talking Ravens, Colts, and Orioles. It's one thing to get beat...I'm OK with that. But to give the game away? Maybe someone was making sure the Steelers beat the spread.(sarcasm)
Did you see Ray Lewis on the sidelines near the end of the game? First time I've ever seen the fire gone from his belly. Prediction: if the 2011 season is lost (due to lockout) look for Ray to retire.
rockin'.baltimorean January 16th, 2011, 02:49 PM ^^yeah, i caught that look by ray also. for the first time in his career, i saw him look.........well, defeated. i've never seen us self-destruct in one quarter like we did in the 3rd.
between flacco's interception, boldin's drop in the end zone, the horrible pass protection by the offensive line, and houshmanzadeh's drop at the end, i knew we were doomed by the time 4th quarter arrived.
think holding penalty on ladarius webb's punt return was the backbreaker for me.
those calls were the worst also. tonight, we didn't get beat by the boys in black and gold, but the boys in black and white. thanks alot, refs!!!
rockin'.baltimorean January 16th, 2011, 02:56 PM This is hilarious! Check out what Joe Theismann said that got everybody ROFL on the NFL network!
Wz-I2xZDF0Yfunny stuff.....lol!!! deion was literally on the floor...
Exrexnotex January 16th, 2011, 10:35 PM Where did the offense go in the second half? Where!? We had the fewest drops in the regular season, yet we had 2 [big ones] last night. That interception that Flacco threw, I've never played QB but even I knew it was an interception as soon as it left Flacco's hand. Ray Rice didn't fumble all season long but he had a key fumble last night. We definitely beat ourselves but we never have any luck against the steelers.
I wonder if Cam Cameron and Gregg Mattison will be back next season [if there's one...]

Bad things happen when we play the Steelers and Colts. Its inexplicable. The coaching plays a part. Despite all the turnovers, with 3 min. left, Rothlissberger is third and nineteen, we decide on a three-man rush? When I saw that, I knew it was over. You can't given Ben all day to throw, we were more successful blitzing. I don't understand the logic here.
micrip January 17th, 2011, 06:32 AM It was a whole season full of inexplicable things...makes you wonder how they finished 12-4. Cameron needs to go, and Harbaugh needs to take complete charge.
And the officials didn't beat the Ravens. All they had to do was take care of business in the 2nd half. There were a few bad calls, but that wasn't the difference in the game.
Ty Doggie January 18th, 2011, 07:36 AM The Ravens NEED to re-learn how to be consistent playing 60 minutes and not be tentative in the second half. This has plagued the Ravens all season.
Flacco needs not to choke and there needs to be HEAVY rotation on offense cause offense has been worn out all year and this last game showed it.
Just one objective opinion as I really don't have a team.
Oh and the Skins are in need of a leadership COLONIC.
yamota January 18th, 2011, 04:52 PM Well, everybody will have lots of time to dwell on that. From what I hear, there won't be a 2011 season or it will be a shortened one.

What?! Is there a pending strike about to happen? Salary cap?
yamota January 20th, 2011, 06:28 PM I'm kinda hoping the players go on strike. You know who wins the Superbowl everytime there a strike
micrip January 23rd, 2011, 09:15 AM Now that the precedent has been set that the Super Bowl will be played in a cold weather city outdoors, shouldn't that open the door for other northern cities to bid for the game? Although it's a roll of the dice, sometimes weather can be quite pleasant (for winter) in Baltimore in early February.
I think Baltimore would be a natural with the Inner Harbor and all those hotels within walking distance of the stadium.
Some would say that DC would get the game before Baltimore with the larger stadium, but with the stadium out in the burbs it wouldn't have the appeal that M & T's downtown location would bring.
rockin'.baltimorean January 23rd, 2011, 04:08 PM ^^i say we should go for it! yeah, definitely!
if washington gets it, more power to them, also. because of our proximity, i think baltimore's hotels would still benefit (financially) if d.c. got the super bowl.
Mirage52 January 23rd, 2011, 08:15 PM I don't see how DC could ever get a Super Bowl. The stadium is in the boonies.
Baltimore is much more obvious to get a SB. A decent mass transit option to the stadium in the light rail and metro, plenty of hotels within walking distance and plenty of convention center space to host the pre-game festivities.
The only thing holding us back is the weather.

Aside from the fact that DC nor Bmore will ever host the big game, more money would be generated at FedEx due to seating capacity. 91k vs 71k.

I agree, but getting all those people to the stadium for the game would be a logistical nightmare. It already pretty much is every Sunday.
micrip January 24th, 2011, 07:14 AM The precedent has been set, however, with the game going to the Meadowlands, where the weather, on average, is much worse than this area. Unless that game winds up being a complete debacle, there's no reason why the game shouldn't be in the North sometime in the future. Places like Green Bay and Chicago obviously are out, but anything south of the Mason-Dixon Line should be fair game.

rockin'.baltimorean January 24th, 2011, 01:20 PM Steelers in Super Bowl is tough for Ravens fans to stomach
Unless seeing Pittsburgh take on Packers serves as validation for Baltimore's season
Peter Schmuck

If you don't want to watch two more weeks of Ben Roethlisberger highlights on SportsCenter, you'll probably have to leave the country because Big Ben and the Pittsburgh Steelers are going to the Super Bowl — pretty much at your expense.
I know, it's time to let it go. The Ravens had their chance to host the AFC Championship game and fumbled it away, and the Steelers have made the most of the opportunities provided in that disastrous third quarter last week.
The title bout is finally set. The Steelers will take on the Green Bay Packers in Dallas in the 45th Super Bowl after Sunday night's victory over the New York Jets, which leaves everyone around here with a decision to make.
Do you double down on your visceral disdain for the Ravens' most hated divisional rival and become temporary Cheeseheads? Or do you take a more neutral approach since another Steelers championship would — in a relative sense — validate the Ravens' season?
How so? Well, when you consider that the Ravens likely would have been in Sunday's title game at M&T Bank Stadium if not for a rare fumble by Ray Rice and the ensuing offensive meltdown that allowed the Steelers to survive the divisional playoff round, you could probably rationalize a Steelers victory in the Super Bowl as proof that the Ravens really were good enough to win the Lombardi Trophy this year.
It would be small consolation, but you take your consolation where you can get it after a frustrating end like that.
I'm guessing, however, that the majority of Ravens fans would trade that for the opportunity to see Hines Ward walking off the field with his head down as the confetti rains on the Packers at Cowboys Stadium. Just a hunch.
No doubt, there were a lot of temporary Jets fans in front of their flat screens throughout the Mid-Atlantic region on Sunday night, partly because of the widespread anti-Steelers sentiment and partly because there is still a lot of affection for Rex Ryan and Bart Scott among local football fans.
The wild-card Jets went a week deeper into the playoffs than the Ravens for the second straight year, but they were not equal to the challenge at Heinz Field. The Steelers ate up most of the first quarter with an opening touchdown drive and were ready to try on their AFC title T-shirts by halftime, but give the Jets credit for not having an ounce of quit in them.
The hard-fought Steelers' victory sets up a Super Bowl showdown between the roughest, toughest team in the AFC and a versatile NFC wild-card opponent that got hot at just the right time.
The Packers barely made it into the postseason, then did what a wild-card team has to do to get to the Super Bowl. They won three straight games on the road, jumping out to a big lead in Philadelphia, throwing up 28 points in the second quarter against the Atlanta Falcons and dominating the first half at Soldier Field in Chicago.
They weren't exactly a dark horse, not with one of the most dangerous quarterbacks in the NFL coming off a season in which he had the top passer rating in his conference. Aaron Rodgers had thrown for 546 yards in the first two playoff rounds, and he quickly took control of Sunday's win over the Bears.
It looked like the Packers would do to the Bears what they did to the Falcons in last week's 48-21 victory, but the Bears defense delivered a series of big plays that kept the game from getting out of hand. The Bears even made it interesting when third-string quarterback Caleb Hanie was pushed into the game and drove them to a couple of surprising touchdowns in the fourth quarter.
Rodgers made some mistakes and wasn't quite as effective as he was against the Eagles and Falcons, but the balanced, high-powered Packers offense should give Steelers defensive coordinator Dick LeBeau plenty to worry about over the next two weeks.
Obviously, this isn't the matchup Baltimore sports fans wanted to see, but it should be a very entertaining Super Bowl.
Now, where can I get one of those cheese hats in a Size 8?
yamota January 24th, 2011, 05:10 PM It will be a historic Superbowl! It'll be the first Superbowl in history where both teams are wearing yellow pants!

.....and by the way, i see the steelers won another game off of a blown call. sanchez's arm was going forward when that fumble occured in the 2nd quarter, so, it should have been an incomplete pass. as it turns out, that blown call made the difference in the game. the steelers didn't score at all in the second half, & the jets would've won 19-17.

Redskins’ Haynesworth charged with sexual abuse
Posted: 4:03 pm Tue, April 26, 2011
By Associated Press
WASHINGTON — Washington Redskins defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth has been charged with misdemeanor sexual abuse.
A grand jury in Washington indicted Haynesworth on the charge Tuesday. The 29-year-old Haynesworth is accused of fondling a server while at the rooftop lounge of a hotel in northwest Washington in February, sliding a credit card down the front of his server’s dress and fondling her breast.
If convicted, he faces up to 180 days in jail and a fine of up to $1,000
rockin'.baltimorean April 27th, 2011, 12:25 PM Ravens' Zbikowski appealing suspension over failed drug test
Safety 'in shock' over positive test for marijuana substance, seeking 'expedited' decision on appeal
By Jamison Hensley, The Baltimore Sun
6:44 p.m. EDT, April 26, 2011
Ravens safety Tom Zbikowski is appealing a 45-day suspension for failing a drug test after Saturday's victory in Thackerville, Okla.
Seeking an "expedited" decision, Zbikowski sent a negative result from "a more in-depth test" to the Chickasaw Nation Boxing Commission on Tuesday, his attorney said.
Zbikowski, who turned to boxing during the NFL lockout, was one of five fighters who tested positive for Tetrahydrocannabinol, the main substance in marijuana.
"Tom was in shock," said Mike Joyce, Zbikowski's lawyer. "He doesn't do drugs. He's passed every collegiate and NFL test, and I think sometimes there are false positives."
If the suspension is upheld, Zbikowski likely would miss his next two scheduled fights and would be subject to discipline under the NFL's personal conduct policy. "We do not know the facts, but it will be reviewed when the teams return," league spokesman Greg Aiello said.
The results of Zbikowski's clean test have been faxed to Oklahoma, according to the Los Angeles Times.
"The commission in Oklahoma has told us he'd be off suspension if we send them a clean sample within five days," boxing promoter Bob Arum told the Times.
Zbikowski's lawyer and father both cast doubts about the testing at the WinStar Casino.
Zbikowski participated in a urine test strip after the fight, according to Joyce. "I've never seen results where you get them the day of the fight," Joyce said. "It was like a home pregnancy test or something."
Having five boxers test positive also raises questions about the validity of the testing, Zbikowski's father said. "I bet if you did a study on what was the most suspensions on any card, this would rank up there with one of the highest," said Ed Zbikowski, who has been involved in boxing for 57 years. "It seems odd that five guys who are athletes tested positive for marijuana."
Zbikowski didn't return messages from The Sun.
Arum said Zbikowski denies smoking marijuana, and the long-time promoter speculated it entered Zbikowski's system as a result of "someone at the hotel smoking close to the guys, like a contact high."
The NFL lockout allowed Zbikowski return to boxing, which he has repeatedly called his first love. He also has yet to sign his tender as a restricted free agent, so he is technically not under contract.
Zbikowski improved to 4-0 as a professional boxer with a first-round knockout of Blake Warner on Saturday night. He is scheduled to fight May 21 in Cabazon, Calif., and June 4 in Los Angeles.
California State Athletic Commission spokeswoman Sarah Waklee said the commission will know by mid-May if Zbikowski's suspension has been lifted. Waklee said even if Zbikowski has been cleared, he'll still be subject to a test for marijuana given the positive result for THC.
The Ravens are aware of the incident from media reports, but teams have been reluctant to contact players until there is a decision on the NFL's motion for a stay to the lockout.
"At this time, unfortunately, we can't reach out to Tom for his side of the story," a Ravens official said.
Despite the failed drug test, Zbikowski was allowed to keep his $20,000 purse, according to his father.
"It's very unfortunate to have his good name associated with something like this," Joyce said. "But we're getting it cleared up as fast as we can."
Exrexnotex April 27th, 2011, 11:51 PM ^^ He took another test yesterday and passed.
Then again, clean urine sale is and has always been a thriving business in Charm City. I kid, I kid.
Exrexnotex April 27th, 2011, 11:53 PM Who do you want the Ravens to draft? I think if Costonzo falls to our spot, we should grab him. if not, we should get Cameron Heyward from Ohio State.

Gsol October 25th, 2011, 03:26 PM What a disgraceful display on national TV, after all the ESPN commentators were praising the Ravens. They agreed that the Ravens were the best in the AFC, and were bound for the Super Bowl. With this kind of amateurish play they shouldn't be allowed to even watch it.

Eh, the Ravens bounce back well after losses. Look for a blowout at home.
As for the Steelers, they are not as good as they have been in the last few years. The Ravens play up to their competition, but unfortunately have played down to it as well, but I am still not too worried about the Steelers just yet.
micrip October 30th, 2011, 08:18 AM Well...which Ravens team will show up today?
Gsol October 31st, 2011, 02:42 AM The question before today's game was, which Flacco will show up? Well, they both did. It seems like he went into the locker room, did a few spins, a few chants and the winning Flacco emerged. He led them to the biggest come from behind in their history.
Now, what about next week? Looking at the way the Steelers handled Brady and Co., it looks scary. To bad we are not playing them on Halloween. I think a Steelers uniform is more frightening then a ghost, skeleton or mummy.
I think the betting line will favor the Steelers by 3 or 4. When these guys meet its always rather close, but the Ravens come up short. We got the the first game, but the Steelers have really improved since then.
micrip October 31st, 2011, 07:38 AM I was so disgusted after the first half that I turned off the TV and went for a walk...too nice a day to watch that disaster. KLynch November 7th, 2011, 08:07 AM If we take every team as seriously as the Steelers, I'm hoping finally for some hope playoff games in the Harbaugh/Flacco/Rice era this year!

micrip November 7th, 2011, 09:22 AM What a game! And who whould have thunk that, after 8 games, the Ravens would be tied with...the Bengals!
A loss tonight would have been devastating, as Pittsburg would have been 7-2, the Bengals 6-2, and Ravens 5-3. A sweep of the Bengals would probably have been required to make the postseason.
That said, I don't think we have seen the last of the Steelers yet...

That game was really tough on the nerves. When Flacco fumbled with 7 min left in the 4th, I thought it was over. The Steelers capitalized on that mistake. The Ravens had so many opprtunities, but finally got it done. Just imagine if Flacco protected the ball and Smith would have connected a few of those dropped passes. I guess Smith is learning on the job. He has the potential hopefully he gained confidence and improves as time goes on.
There were some bad calls or missed calls that hurt or would have benefitted the Ravens. Maybe I am paranoid, but it always seems that the refs have it in for the Ravens. Perhaps it goes back to the Billick era (the Earl Weaver of football).

Both the Steelers and Ravens play Cincinnati and Cleveland twice, right? If the Ravens can run the table against those two, they would be 6-0 in the division and the best the Steelers could be is 4-2. The Ravens also need to win the "game in hand" they have over the Steelers.
The Ravens had better be ready for the Colts, too.
This is whats so cool about football...every game matters, whereas not so much in baseball.

urbanyte November 10th, 2011, 10:13 PM So I've loosely followed the NFL for the first time since the 2001-2002 season, and I was wondering how the Redskins are doing this year. They mentioned quite a few injuries on the radio, but I have no clue about their depth or how they play.

yamota November 15th, 2011, 09:14 PM I too have often wondered why they don't sell any Ravens apparel at the Walmarts here; they sell Redskins merchandise of course, but they also sell a lot of Dallas Cowboys merchandise, what the hell?? Dallas isn't even in the same time zone! And why would I even consider buying Cowboy stuff, I hate the Cowboys! They also sell a lot of Pittsburgh Steeler stuff?? Hello?? The Steelers aren't even in the same conference?? Some New York Giants stuff, some Philadelphia Eagles stuff, but not a single Baltimore Ravens thing, not even a hat. Maybe they have something against purple?
micrip November 16th, 2011, 04:25 AM Yeah Dallas is the evil empire as far as Redskins fans are concerned.
Plenty of Redskins gear available around Baltimore, including Wally World, I think.

By the same token, it's almost like getting a 2nd bye week, as I'm betting the players will get a few days off after the game. Look for some Ravens at BWI bright and early Friday morning!

The 49ers won both games when traveling east. They are 9-1 (don't know who they lost to), got to like the niners chances. They Ravens are to inconsistent, and you can both the good and bad Flacco within the same game. For the Ravens to win the defense will need to really work hard. Still the odds makers are giving the Ravens 3.5 pts. It'll be a nail biter tonight.

The Ravens have to score in the Red Zone. This has been a problem for some time, even before Flacco. Cameron is mostly at fault. Bad decisions 1) to have Flacco run it from the 5, and 2) When at the one half yard line, just stuff it in. Can't keep settling for 3, this is not 2000.
But a 'W' is a 'W', we're 8-3 and beat a good team. Now, go get the Browns and cheer for the Chiefs on Sunday.

Yes, there is a bar on 3rd Ave. in the 30s, I think its called Whiskey Park. Went there once, there were around 200 Ravens fans (I posted that experience here after the unfortunate loss to the Titans). The wait staff were also in Ravens attire. Even in my neighborhood (West 72nd St) there are Ravens fans, when we out-number Jets or Giant fans, they put the Ravens on the big TV with sound. But there are quite few Ravens bars - I get Facebook invites all the time.

...yeah that was a rather puzzling move. That close, might have taken at least 1 shot with Flacco himself. Whatever happened to the good old fashioned quarterback sneak?
Mirage52 November 29th, 2011, 02:45 PM Patrick Willis sniffed out the QB draw, which is impressive since we rarely run it. They should have gone 5 wide and had Joe in the shotgun, then done the draw, but that may have been too obvious. Oh well, we won. Let's not give another one away on the road to a bad team in Cleveland.

Wow, Crazy! I guess it's all those good High Schools around Baltimore putting kids in great colleges, and then in great jobs in Manhattan.
Ravens Mania is getting enormous. Every time they showed the crowd in Seattle, there was Ravens Fans everywhere, same thing with Jax.... two games I like to forget. I know a ton of people going to Cleveland this weekend. I would totally go to Cincy this year if it wasn't on New Years Day, I've been there twice, and you can get Tickets for like $5-10.... the entire trip is almost cheaper than buying tix on Craigslist to a home game.

From my perception, its mostly the jobs here that attract Free Staters. I had more NYers in my classes at Maryland and U of B Law, than Baltimoreans in my classes at NYU when I later decided to go back and get a degree in Journalism. Most Marylanders move here for the big bucks. Even in this economy there are still many opportunities. You work harder, it's more competitive and expensive for rather modest living quarters; but, I think in the long run the rewards are greater.
But on Sunday they're rabid Ravens fans, and plenty of them. Whiskey Park had a whole floor devoted to the Ravens, and every TV was tuned to the game. I have to believe that there were more people in that place than many bars in Baltimore. It had to be in the 200+ range. Not only was every table occupied, but there was standing room only at the bar. That is only one of several bars in town.

Ravens fans do travel...almost like Red Sox fans. It seemed like there was more noise coming from Ravens fans in Jax then from their own.
Unfortunately Cincy is a hard day's drive away. That said, the potential exists that the number of Ravens fans there could hit 10,000+, depending on the importance of the game. As good as a season the Bengals are having, they drew less than 50,000 Sunday.
Mirage52 November 30th, 2011, 05:00 PM Tix this weekend against Cleveland start under $10 on StubHub. 6 hr drive from Baltimore...I wish I didn't have plans this weekend or else I would go.
The Cincy tix I have seen on StubHub are still around $50. They have remained competitive this year so I don't think they'll get much cheaper. In 2008 I went with a bunch of friends and paid $18 a ticket. The drive wasn't bad with 5 guys in a car...had a good time.
And I was at the JAX game. There were a lot of Ravens fans and somehow most of them were on the same side of the stadium. However, the JAX fans were really loud that game. I was actually impressed with their fans there.
KLynch November 30th, 2011, 08:14 PM Tickets are typically expensive when it is weeks away. I went to Cincy twice. Once when Cincy was floundering and once when they were leading the division, both times I paid $50 ahead of time as part of a package, and realized I could have gotten tickets for less than $10 outside the stadium. Their attendance has been pathetic this year, worse than ever, so if you guys go, I would def recommend just buying when you get there, I'm sure you'll save yourself at least $30 per ticket.
Unfortunately I couldn't make a road trip this year, but a bunch of my friends are going this weekend. Went to Carolina last year, that was a home game!

The early line favors the Ravens over the Charges by only one point. That's the lowest for the Ravens this season. I agree with it, I thought the Ravens would be favorite by 3. The Ravens need to run the table to stay on top. The Steelers have gotten stronger as the season progressed. Rothlissberger is a cat with nine lives, nothing can stop that guy; so I expect them to beat the 49ers. The Ravens MUST come away with 7 inside the Red Zone, not settling for field goals. This is a persisitent problem for them.

I thought that also during real time view, but in looking at re-play they got it right. Both feet appeared to be in. The real break was the last play of the game, where they could have called pass interference against us. But we have had many bad calls during the season, so maybe it equals out.
Anyway, a great win. There are some things the Ravens need to work on, most importantly Flacco's timing throwing to his receivers. We need those big plays in order to advance through the next two games. Can't have dropped balls when a big play is needed. It also appears, from the last two days, that the defense eases off when the lead appears safe in the second half. That allowed both the Browns and Bengals to have a second life. Giving the Bengals the ball and control of the out come of the game in the final two minutes, was a huge risk. We needed a better play on third down proceeding that punt. As was evident the Bengals could have connected in the end zone. As I said earlier we got a break from the refs.
Lets hope the Ravens get rested, healthy and ready to play like they did in the beginning of the season.
Happy New Year All

urbanyte January 16th, 2012, 07:47 PM Too bad the Chargers aren't the Ravens' next opponent :D
The Ravens are thoroughly screwed - not gonna lie, I'm smiling when I say that! - if they play against the Pats the way they did against Houston. 20-13 and relying on that moment of monumental stupidity to win a game isn't going to cut it against a high powered offense. Not to mention the Texans QB as a rookie outperformed the overrated Flacco (yes, I said overrated, Taylor is more athletic than him). Flacco may as well be a practice target for training a defense how to sack. He had an easy schedule - on paper - this season and the Ravens still blew it against teams they should have beat on paper. If they do manage to eliminate the Pats, they still have the Giants and 49s left and the way those two are playing this postseason, they'll pick apart the Ravens. As one of the commentators said yesterday, the 49s in particular have been playing ok to start the season, better mid-season and really have been full steam ahead late season.
Enjoy the win against the Texans, it gets substantially harder afterwards.

I don't care who they play. Just get into the game. That will be a tough order. The Ravens are a 7.5 underdog. It will be up to Flacco to make the big plays. He can't come up empty in the red zone, nor settle for a field goal. NE averages over 30 points per game. Somehow the Ravens have to find away to hit that mark. The defense should be able to contain Brady and keep us in the game, but can Flacco hit his wide receivers? Rice can touch the ball 25 times, but the Ravens are going to need some big plays to beat the Brady Bunch in Foxboro.
KLynch January 19th, 2012, 04:49 PM If we can generate some pass rush, I think we are in good shape. Not too worried about the offense, I thought they got the job done against HOU, and NE's D is a complete opposite.

all the 3-and-outs we had during that game, and you're actually giving the offense legitimate credit?? The offense's lack or scoring is the reason we almost lost!
i'm with you about the missing presence of the pass rush on the defense. However, the defense was ultimately the reason we won altogether. Houston scored 0 in the ENTIRE second half, and that was courtesy of the "D". I really don't fault Ed Reed for callin' out the offense on Monday. Its a frustrating ordeal watching our offense perform.
Here's the bottom line.........Tom Brady is going for the jugular, so we need A LOT more than 20 points to beat New England this Sunday.
KLynch January 19th, 2012, 07:19 PM They weren't spectacular, but put up enough points to win, and weathered the storm against the #2 defense in football. Blocking needs to improve, and passes need to be caught. Cam needs to figure out how to gain a half a yard when needed. But New England's defense is no where near as good as Houston's. This game is all about containing Tom Brady, the offense is going to put up points.

No 2 looked like a guy that got rattled at the big moment. He was obviously uptight before the kick. And who's to say they wouldn't have lost in OT anyway.

I don't think Cundiff got set before the kick. It seemed rushed. The Ravens still had a time out which they should have used and let Cundiff settle. Don't think you can blame this game on Cameron, although his departure would be welcome. Flacco had a good game 300+ yards, he performed better than Brady. It just seems like for the Ravens all cylinders aren't working all of the time. There is always something out of kilter.

Kudos to Flacco. Great way of hanging in there!!
rockin'.baltimorean January 23rd, 2012, 07:01 PM No 1 was the direct reason for the loss...that ball should have been caught. And you wander why Flacco didn't go to him that often this season..if that was Boldin, Smith, Pitta, Rice, or even Ricky Williams on the receiving end of this pass, we'd be in the super bowl now as we speak.
Notice I didn't say Dickson. He's been shaky lately in the receiving department.

The officials tried gifting the game to them. It's karma. Serves them right for all the shit they spoke at the beginning of the game. Extreme arrogance punished. The 3 fights also means there will be beef between the teams from now on.

Nah, that was half-assed enough. Not enough incentive to try harder. The Ravens still using a kicker that couldn't hit a mountain from it's base in a critical situation is enough, I don't need to do anything.
Balmurfan January 24th, 2012, 10:29 PM We all know he missed the kick.. BFD! Life doesn’t end based on the outcome of a game. Ravens fans will stand behind our team regardless what happens!! I wish your team the best of luck in Indy!
urbanyte January 27th, 2012, 10:35 PM Thanks :) The funny thing is I was just talking about consistency and big players stepping up at the right time with a Ravens fan before the game. There was a running joke after the Cleveland game a while back (where Cundiff missed once, hit post once and then the flag) that when you miss a sitter, you don't miss it, you Cundiff it . They did hire a new kicker because of Cundiff's complete lack of accuracy but didn't use him.
Anyway I would have wanted to see the 49ers vs Patriots, but apparently defense doesn't matter in the playoffs. The karma remark was also directed at the officials for an extremely moronic call despite video review, it was karma nabbing the officials in the butt for that one.

House3780 May 4th, 2012, 12:46 AM http://blogs.baltimoreravens.com/2012/05/03/reports-terrell-suggs-tears-achilles-tendon/
Reigning Defensive Player of the Year Terrell Suggs has reportedly torn his Achilles tendon.
The severity of the injury is not known at this time and the Ravens have not confirmed that there was a tear to the tendon. They are waiting to hear more news from doctors.
“We are in contact with Terrell. He will see a specialist early next week, and we’ll know more at that time,” the team said in a statement.
While first reports indicated that Suggs would likely miss the year, the outside linebacker is saying otherwise. Suggs believes he will return this season.
“Absolutely,” Suggs told The Carroll County Times’ Aaron Wilson. “Middle to end of October. Definitely beginning of November.”
Suggs’ injury was first reportedy by 105.7 The Fan’s Vinny Cerrato, who said it came while he was playing basketball. However, Suggs has refuted that report in text messages to the media.
“We do a conditioning test every year, and I was practicing it,” Suggs told the Carroll County Times’ Aaron Wilson. “I went to stop and turn and I thought I sprained it. Went to doc and [they] said it’s a partial tear.”
ESPN is reporting that Suggs has surgery scheduled for next week.
Suggs will see a foot specialist, Dr. Robert Anderson, in North Carolina on Tuesday. He suffered the injury on Saturday, the day after Baltimore drafted outside linebacker Courtney Upshaw, according to The Baltimore Sun’s Jeff Zrebiec.
Ravens General Manager Ozzie Newsome told ESPN that the team found out about the injury on Monday.
Suggs went to his second straight Pro Bowl last year and has become the focal point of Baltimore’s elite defense. He sets the edge against the run and is also the team’s top pass rusher.
The 10-year veteran, who has missed just three games during his career (knee injury in 2009), recorded a career-high 14 sacks and 70 tackles last season. He forced seven fumbles and notched two interceptions.
The Ravens could use Upshaw to replace Suggs. Upshaw played Suggs’ position in Alabama’s national championship defense last year. He plays a similar style of physical football, able to stuff the run and get after quarterbacks.
Upshaw took to Twitter to respond to the Suggs news.
“I keep [getting] these ‘it’s time to man up‘ tweets,” Upshaw tweeted. “I mean it’s the NFL…with T. Sizzle healthy I [would] have to man up its big boy ball…
“I’m a grown man plus I’m so motivated!”
Paul Kruger would likely be the player charged with manning the other outside linebacker position vacated by Jarrett Johnson. He also could be charged as Suggs’ replacement considering he has backed him up in years past.

rockin'.baltimorean September 11th, 2012, 08:01 PM wow!!!!!! What a game last night!!! However, i did have two concerns...
1)andy dalton wore the Ravens' secondary out at one point. Being that we'll run up against teams that also do the no-huddle like we do, that's somewhat of a concern...
2)Although Joe didn't commit any turnovers, he lobbed the ball in the air a few times when he was under pressure. Overall, I have faith in his passin', just not the iladvised throws...
any thoughts??
Gsol September 17th, 2012, 12:03 AM Terrible showing today. The Ravens beat themselves. In the 3rd quarter, Ravens mid field, 3 down, 2 yards to go, Flacco passes and is intercepted. Why not give the ball to Rice, less risky. The 3rd and 2 came up 3 more times, same result - including the second last play of the game. Even 4th and 2 on the last play should have been to Rice. The Eagles were protecting the long pass, could have snuck the two.
The defense sucked as well, Vick was able to throw at will always finding a man open. Why? It seems as if the defense let them do whatever they wanted. On the other hand, the Ravens could never get open. Flacco constantly throwing into traffic.
On the positive side, how about Justin Tucker 58 yarder, with room to spare, then a 48. No way Condriff hits those. If Flacco were only able to get the ball to the 40, we would have had a chance.
This was a miserable display, bad coaching and bad execution. Hope they get this out of their system or its going to be a long season.

Play calling was atrocious in those short yardage situations.
Exrexnotex September 17th, 2012, 07:26 PM There is no pass rush. They have to find a way to get to the QB. On the Eagles winning drive, our pass rushers were going against their 3rd string LT and backup C, you'd think we'd be blitzing from the left side...
No doubt they should've run more, but CC loves to pass. He needs to learn when to, though. It's exciting to have all those speedy weapons around Flacco, but if there is no separation (like it was all game long) don't throw it, don't risk Flacco holding on to the ball too long and getting sacked or be forced to fumble. In the 3rd quarter, 2 straight 3 and out, 6 straight passing calls. Run the ball. Rice was having a pretty good game on the ground.
On a bright note, Pitta has been able to get away from his cover and get open, so why not have him do Dickson's routes instead. He (Pitta) has good hands, and Flacco will always look his way. Justin Tucker looks like a pretty good out there. He has a strong leg, and I would've liked to see him attempt to make a long (~60) winning field goal. That would've given us a better look of what kind of player he is under pressure.
On to the Patriots.
rockin'.baltimorean September 20th, 2012, 04:14 PM ^^^^you hit the nail on the head. The past rush has gotta' improve. I felt we manhandled the Eagles pretty much through 3 quarters. Jacoby Jones's offensive pass interference really hurt our momentum (it would've put us up 24-14).

Defense needs to step it up. To many open receivers for Brady, just like Vick last week. They need to play tight man-to-man. At least Cam Cameron let Rice play, even tough he said he was happy with last week's calls and would do it again - he didn't. That was just saving face, Rice was used in many short yardage situations.
Last night's game was an emotional rollercoaster and I am a wreck, I can only imagine how the team feels. To bad they have to play Thursday so the NFL network can make its money on the backs of the players.

rockin'.baltimorean September 28th, 2012, 12:29 PM ^^^^yeah, we need him more than ever now....
Gsol September 28th, 2012, 03:27 PM What the Ravens need more than ever is a competent offensive coordinator. Cameron did again on that insane pass that was intercepted in the end zone. When they are that close, I think it was within five, run the ball. We have one of the best running backs in the league. This is the same crap that cost us the Eagles game. Also the defense cannot put pressure on the QB, also they let to many receivers get open.
rockin'.baltimorean October 15th, 2012, 05:08 PM well, it looks like Ray Lewis & Ladarius Webb are both lost for the season. The true will of this team is about to be tested.....
Exrexnotex October 15th, 2012, 06:22 PM The loss of Webb is HUGE. We can survive without Lewis, he hasn't been playing great football. No pass rush and mediocre corners...uh-oh. And who's on our schedule? Eli, Peyton, Schaub, Rivers, the rapist... We'll get through this, I'm sure, but it's hard not to panic a little. Our defense was below average already. Needless to say, as long as we keep winning (in any way, ugly or pretty) panic will not spread.

Isn't Suggs supposed to return in Nov.? The defense looked anemic. One of the comentators on TV pointed out that the Ravens defense was 24th in the NFL. And that was before yesterday's game. I am sure we dropped further, giving up over 200yds on the ground and 261 in the air. If this doesn't improve its going to be a grueling rest of the season. At least we're safe in our division for now.
Like the reference, "the rapist".

I agree with you. The Ravens did ok last season when Lewis was out for 4 games, and the same cast of characters will be replacing him this time. Ray has been wonderful...up there with Brooks, Cal, Johnny, and other Baltimore icons, but now he is just average.

Gsol October 22nd, 2012, 04:00 PM There are so many areas that need fixing it requires a book, rather than a simple post. But before I saw the writing on the wall on this game (and departed the bar), aside from an anemic defense, the play calling by Cameron got my ire up. His insistance that Flacco must throw the ball in 3rd and short situations is a very costly problem. Early in the game we could have put points up, but he wants Flacco to be a big time passer he ain't. We have one of the best running backs in Rice, and this is where he has to be used. Flacco is not the brightest when the pocket collaspses and he's being rushed, this has lead to turnovers at worst, or a missed opportunity for a first down. This formula has failed many more times than it succeeded. And it can be corrected. The defense will be a work in progress for some time.

Injured middle linebacker is rehabbing torn right triceps

6:29 p.m. EST, November 5, 2012
For anyone expecting to see injured Ravens All-Pro middle linebacker Ray Lewis at practice or attending games anytime soon, they'll probably have to wait a bit longer.
Placed on injured reserve-designated to return after undergoing surgery to repair his torn right triceps suffered during a 31-29 win over the Dallas Cowboys, the two-time NFL Defensive Player of the Year has been rehabilitating away from the Ravens' training complex.
Lewis has been spending time in Florida and following his surgeon's advice as far as his recovery plan.
"He's doing well," Ravens coach John Harbaugh said. "He probably won't be in the building for a little while. He's got a protocol he's following. I can tell you this: He's got the best doctors in the world, to my understanding, working on his triceps. So, I fully trust Ray with his rehab right now. How many times is cameron going to have Flacco throw on 3rd and 2? The most critical situation was at the two minute warning, all the Raverns needed was a first down and the game was over (Pitts used up their TOs). Just have Rice run one side or the other (he was constantly getting stuffed in the middle), maybe have do a sweep get the two and its over. But no, Flacco has to throw anf the Steelers get another shot. If Leftwich weren't hurt he would have quickly gunned the ball to within field goal range, but we survived due to some key defensive plays. But I think its time for Cameron to go. Any of you who have closely watched the Ravens this season would have seen these crucial 3rd and two situations, where Flacco passes and its incomplete, or worse, picked off.
On another subject ( I don't know where else to put this comment), I hope Maryland decides to stay in the ACC and not go to the Big Ten. At least they should allow the alumni and others to voice their opinion. This decision should not be made unilaterally. I don't know how others feel, but the Terps are founding members of the ACC, and the division is improving. Great basketball rivalries with N.C. and Duke. I know the argument that MD is primarily a B-ball school, and they want to boost the fooball program for economic reasons. This is all about money, you'd think it was the pros. Come to think about it college athletics is a big businees. Who are we kidding? U of M will do whatever they need to bring in revenue. To Hell with what we think.

To Hell with what we think.I think they will stay. That $50 million exit fee will keep them in the ACC.
Tricia_Lvs_Baltimore November 19th, 2012, 05:41 PM crucial win last night...
the only reason we won (and I stress the word "only" in a heavy fashion) was because Leftwich's throwin' hand wasn't 100%. We kept them in the game too long & we had too many 3-&-outs.
as far as our offense, I often wonder where Joe's mind is sometimes. On several occasions, Torrey was wide open last night....I'm not understanding the big fuss. We won the game!
Gsol November 19th, 2012, 06:09 PM I think they will stay. That $50 million exit fee will keep them in the ACC.
According the The Sun article that $50mil fee is negotiable. The incentive is the lucrative Big Ten TV network. The University might feel that the future TV deal is best in the long run, and maybe something like paying $36 mil to bolt the ACC is worth it.

Maryland has made the decision to seek admission to the Big Ten Conference. Elizabeth Conlisk, the vice president of communications for the Big Ten Network, confirmed the news publicly shortly after 10:30 a.m. Maryland's decision is driven largely by financial motives

with the Chargers up 13-10 and the Ravens faced with 4th & 29 with the game on the line, Flacco hits Rice on a dump-off for 5 yards, and how he got 25 more yards after the catch is beyond me!!! Wow.........unbelievable!
this kinda' stuff only happens to us. I couldn't explain it if I tried. Wow, craziness.....
micrip November 26th, 2012, 07:42 AM Incredibly enough, with 5 weeks left in the season, the division winners in the AFC are pretty much settled. Looks like 3 teams will be fighting for the 2 wild card spots...Pittsburgh, Cincinnati, and Indy. Not much last minute drama this year, except for the first round byes.

Ray Lewis, the Ravens' 13-time Pro Bowl inside linebacker, could return to practice as early as this week.
Coach John Harbaugh said Monday afternoon that Lewis, who has missed the last five games after tearing his right triceps in the team's 31-29 win against the Dallas Cowboys on Oct. 14, is eligible to be activated from injured reserve-designated to return this week.
Without saying that Lewis would practice Thursday — the first day he is eligible to do so — Harbaugh said the 37-year-old linebacker is on pace to return earlier than anticipated.
"I think he will," Harbaugh said during his weekly news conference at the team's training facility in Owings Mills. "That's a best guess. He's working hard to do that. We'll see."
Getting Lewis back this season was a priority for the Ravens, who elected to avoid shelving him for the entire season.
If Lewis were to return this week, the first game that he would be eligible to play in is the team's home contest against the Denver Broncos on Dec. 16. But Harbaugh said everything depends on timing to make sure Lewis is ready to return this week.
"... We're going to have to test it, to see if it can hold up," Harbaugh said. "Really don't know where it's at right now. Ray has been in rehab mode. So he hasn't been here from a football standpoint in terms of us seeing any of that. But just talking to Ray, it sounds like things have gone well. There have been no setbacks. So there's a possibility."
The Ravens dropped their first game without Lewis, absorbing a 43-13 pounding by the Houston Texans on Oct. 21. Since then, however, the team has strung together four consecutive wins. Coupled with the four contests that Lewis sat out last season because of strained ligaments in one of his toes, the Ravens are 8-1 in nine games without Lewis.
The defense has recorded mixed results in Lewis' absence. Ranked 24th in average yards allowed prior to the win against the Cowboys, the unit is still 24th after Sunday's 16-13 overtime win against the San Diego Chargers.
Lewis attended the team's Nov. 9 practice, just two days prior to a home game against the Oakland Raiders. But he hasn't been seen much around the team's practice facility since then.
Lewis has been using a hyperbaric chamber to aid the healing process for the damaged triceps, and a source told Yahoo! Sports that Lewis has also been undergoing platelet-rich plasma therapy to return sooner.
Peter Allinson, a physician who specializes in hyperbaric medicine at MedStar Good Samaritan Hospital, said there are no studies that establish hyperbaric treatments as a clear method for healing sports injuries. But Allinson said there are an increasing number of anecdotal cases that suggest the treatment might work in sports medicine.

But Allinson said there are an increasing number of anecdotal cases that suggest the treatment might work in sports medicine.
"Theoretically, it should speed healing. It definitely reduces the swelling of damaged tissue," he said of the treatment, which entails entering a pressure chamber that bolsters oxygen levels in the blood. Allinson said he has had success using the treatments to address everything from thermal burns to bone infections such as osteomyelitis.
"Athletic injuries fall more into the gray market for these kinds of treatments," he said. "As much as I would like to say this is a way to treat all sports injuries, I try to be very cautious and not advocate using something unless I know it has a good chance of working."
Allinson said he's also not familiar with any studies that show platelet-rich plasma therapy as a definitive means of treating sports injuries, though he said platelets do promote healthy tissue growth and have been effective in healing wounds.
Lewis' potential comeback would follow outside linebacker Terrell Suggs' return from a partially torn right Achilles tendon suffered in April. Suggs, the reigning NFL Defensive Player of the Year, played against the Texans and has been steadily increasing his workload with each game.
Harbaugh downplayed the notion of medical miracles, opting instead to give credit to Lewis and Suggs for rehabilitating their injuries as quickly and as effectively as they could.
"I just have so much confidence in who Ray is as a person and as a man," Harbaugh said. "And it's the same thing for Suggs. The thing … is, these guys are physically genetic, special DNA-type guys. … And they work harder than anybody in this room physically, that's for sure. So give credit where credit is due, and we'll just see how Ray does. But I know one thing: he's working harder than any of us can imagine to try to get back and get healthy."
On Sunday, Suggs reiterated what he's said all along: that the team is trying to hold its own until "The General" returns.
"We've been hit with a lot of injuries this year, but [Lewis] keeps telling us to stay the course and that the mission hasn't changed," Suggs said. "So hold it down until he gets back, and that's what we're doing."

Lets get ready for the 'skins next week......
Exrexnotex December 3rd, 2012, 11:58 PM Cam Cameron has got to go. I've been saying this after every win and every loss. The offense is not creative, and he often forgets about Rice. Does anyone know the defense's blitzes %? I often saw just 3-4 rushing the passer.
I'm confident we'll win the division but we were so close of getting that number 1 seed.
micrip December 4th, 2012, 10:30 AM Cam Cameron needed to go 2 seasons ago. If they flop again this season, maybe Newsome will finally make a move.^^
When Ray Lewis finally retires, I'd like to see him back as a coach...maybe defensive coordinator eventually. He probably doesn't need the money, but I think he'd love to do that.

I couldn't agree more. Rice is the most consistant offensive weapon we have, and Cmeron under utilizes him. If you recall in Sunday's game, in the Second quarter, the Ravens were Second and goal from the five, and Cameron had Flacco pass on both downs. In two downs Rice had a better chance to run it in than Flacco had passing. Many times cameron elects to pass on third and short and always comes up empty.
Flacco is not the sharpest when under pressure. He needs to know when to fold them, like when he's going down, protect the ball, instead he decides to toss it recklessly. He is responsible for Sunday's loss for that dumb decision late in the the game to give Pitts. the winning TD.

Cam Cameron needed to go 2 seasons ago. If they flop again this season, maybe Newsome will finally make a move.agreed, fellas. There was that one drive where we made it to the Steelers' 5 yard line, and what do we do???
we're still throwin' the ball........on 1st & goal........on 2nd & goal......on 3rd & goal........at the 5 yard line. As expected, we didn't punch it in and settled for just 3 instead of 7.
you gotta' think smarter than that, Cam Cameron. We have the best running back in the league, and you don't give it to him. Wow...
rockin'.baltimorean December 6th, 2012, 02:04 AM but i'll say this..........if we don't somehow get a passrush on some kind by Sunday, RG3's gonna' run over our asses. It's not gonna' be pretty.
hpal3 December 10th, 2012, 05:55 AM Well, first of all, I hope RG3 has not sustained a season ending injury to his knee...fingers crossed. Without him, I don't think we will get anywhere fast. I do have one question for all the Ravens Fans in the forum about todays game. Why did Flaco only pass the ball 21 times against one of the leagues bottom ranked pass defense teams??? I am quite puzzled over that stat. Seems to me that Harbaugh would have tried to exploit the 'Skins secondary more than he did...:dunno:

I agree, there isn't much to say. The game was a give-away. Its all Flacco's doings with some help from Cameron. At least they let Rice touch the ball. But you still have a quarterback who lacks the judgement skills that the game requires.
Aside from Flacco's wreckless play, where was the defense during the final two plays of regulation? Why was the Wash. Receiver so open in the end zone? On the two point conversion who was watching the QB? We are supposed to have the best special teams. Where were they on the OT punt?

guys, throughout the season, we've had twelve starters hurt! Right now, we have everyone back. As for Joe, some of his best games have came in the playoffs, so he'll show up. You're gonna' see a new Joe starting on Sunday, Gsol. Andrew Luck, you're gonna' have a problem come Sunday, and that's all I'm gonna' say about that. In the end, Ravens-24, Colts-10.
....as for our burgundy & gold neighbors to the south, this is y'all's first playoff appearance since '05, so congrats on that. RG3 is, at best, at about 50% healthiness right now, so that's gotta' be some concern. Whether y'all want to admit it or not, there's a serious quarterback controversy goin' on down there. Actually, I think Collins is better. But in the end, Redskins-20, Seahawks-13.

Las Vegas favors the Ravens by 6.5, and not sold on the Redskins, they are underdogs by 3. We'll see. Hope they are right on the Ravens. Don't really have a dog in the game to the south.
I think Vages gives the Ravens 3 for home field, then they are confident with the Ravens' experience in the post season. But, in reality the game comes down to its play on the field. Which Flacco are we going to see on Sunday? Will his passes be more accurate? What about Bolden, can he hold on if the ball is in his hands. Same for Smith and Pitta. The only consistent guy on the field is Rice, and pearce is also impressive. So if we see the team that was on the field two weeks ago, they win.
StevenW January 1st, 2013, 05:41 PM ^^ Seattle in Seattle is SCARY. In DC.? It's an even game, imo. Anything could happen. At least, for Washington's sake, it's good to know that their "second" QB is as good as he is, "if", something should go wrong with RG3.
I think Ravens really were afraid to win last week against Cincinnati, imo, for fear of advancing a seed higher, (with the potential New England loss to Miami), and having to beat the odds again by beating Cincy again. I think they were smart for taking the loss and resting their 1st string players. Very smart. I think Baltimore will play smart, and with passion this coming Sunday. The key is: "No Penalties". That and play good solid ball and I believe they will beat Indy.
To tell you the truth Denver is the team that I think is the scariest opponent to play.
micrip January 2nd, 2013, 08:43 AM Kinda like those badminton players in the Olympics, huh?
I thought the same thing. You really don't want to face the same team 3 times. They would have a good handle on your tendancies, but it works both ways.
However, would a 3rd seed, in some way, have resulted in another home playoff game if things were to break the right way? I think the only scenario that would result in that would be if Cincy were to beat both of their opponents, and the Ravens the same, which would result in the AFC championship being played at the Bank. So being the 3rd or 4th seed probably doesn't matter, which is why Harbaugh treated Sunday's game as an exhibition.
rockin'.baltimorean January 2nd, 2013, 05:07 PM cincy possibly upsetting New England would shake up the entire scenario of the AFC playoffs significantly. I truly believe that the Patriots are the one team in our conference that no one wants to face....not even top-seeded Denver.

"The team physicians said he wasn't ready to go, but yet, he's on the field because HE claims he's ready. Because HE claims he's ready??? Who's the damn head coach, YOU, or rg3?? That kind of decision is up to the HEAD COACH!!"
Tricia_Lvs_Baltimore January 8th, 2013, 06:22 PM rg3 was kept in WAY too long!!
by now, I'm sure Daniel Snyder is lookin' at Shanahan and thinking.... Yes, and after the game, what I heard was a young, brash, rookie quarterback basically explaining to the media why he chose to override the Head Coach's decision in deciding to play. I wouldn't be surprised if Shanahan gets fired over this fallout.
KLynch January 8th, 2013, 09:09 PM It's a lose/lose situation and no one should be blamed for anything. The Bears did the opposite with Cutler and took a monster PR hit. I'm sure RG3 will be back for at least half the season next year. The lesson they need to learn... running QBs don't work in the NFL unless you want a 2 year career. The guy can pass, keep him in the pocket. You can be as fast as you want but guys like Ngata will still get their licks in.

Flacco has beaten both Mannings and Tom Brady this season. I wonder if any other quarterback can make that claim?
StevenW January 13th, 2013, 03:35 PM The main stream media still wants to talk junk against the Ravens. Said this morning on, "First on the Field", that the Ravens lucked up because, "the Broncos best players did not show up on the field". Ravens do not get any respect from the main stream media. I mean, you can say the same thing for the Ravens when they lost games this season when their best players did not show up and that's why rhey lost, but,... they don't.
Anyway, we know better. The BETTER team WON, bottom line.
Now, who do we want to really see in the AFC Championship game next week? Pats or Texans? I would like to see a rematch between the Texans.
