Heading south brings us into the hood known as Pelham Pkwy. It goes from Adee Ave to Pelham Pkwy between Hone Ave, with Williamsbridge Rd, and the Bronx River Pkwy. This hood is mostly residential. Originally, this land was mainly farmland that was mainly owned by John Williams, who had placed a toll bridge naming it after himself. In the 1800's, factories were placed here by the Bronx River as the area became known as Bronxdale. Jewish immigrants were known to live here as transit came to the area. In 1911, a greenway known as Pelham Pkwy was created giving the area a new name. Durring the postwar era, a number of immigrants from the Balkans as well as from sub-Saharan Africa began to live here. Pelham Pkwy is known for having the NY Institute for the Blind. You can get here by taking the subway to Pelham Pkwy-White Plains Rd (2, 5) and Allerton Ave (2, 5). Here is what you will find in Pelham Pkwy.

Isn't the Bronx becoming more gentrified, as it's one of the few places
left where rents and property prices are affordable, although even these areas are becoming ever more expensive.

I remember Pelham Parkway was one of the places Jake La Motta lived
and was mentioned in the film Raging Bull starring De Niro.

Wow, I have a friend who lives in this neighborhood and some of those places look very familiar, especially the subway station near his apartment.

From the 4x I've been there and I can recall, this neighborhood has an interesting mix of middle-class people/families originally from Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic, as well as people who seem to be from ex-Soviet countries, like the Ukraine o maybe Russia, and they seemed to constitute the majority of whites I would see walking around or using that subway station.

Housing projects are unaffected by raising property taxes. Just b/c a neighborhood is affordable doesn't mean that it's a bad area. Honestly, areas like Pelham Pkwy do give that of the beaten path look as if it's a getaway from the main part of NYC. Of course there are always those conglomerate developers who feel that these areas are blighted and will demolish everything to build their own places, which is the real blight.
