yakirz August 26th, 2007, 01:52 PM I'd like to see some photos of El Paso. But, with it being on the NM border, how could it possibly be considered Southeast?
jmancuso August 27th, 2007, 05:21 AM I'd like to see some photos of El Paso. But, with it being on the NM border, how could it possibly be considered Southeast?
becuase texas is in the SE forum.
Geaux Tigers August 27th, 2007, 08:52 PM Even though El Paso is closer to California than to Dallas, it is still in Texas.
RGV August 27th, 2007, 09:04 PM Yeah, El Paso is in Texas, but it's Mexican food is not TexMex. It's, I don't know, Southwest Mexican food, but hardly as tasty as TexMex.
ichabodius August 27th, 2007, 09:51 PM So where are the pics?
ArchiTennis August 29th, 2007, 05:36 PM Yeah, El Paso is in Texas, but it's Mexican food is not TexMex. It's, I don't know, Southwest Mexican food, but hardly as tasty as TexMex.
ewww...TexMex is nasty! Authentic Mexican food is waaaay better...that's really hard to find here in Houston...I mean, enchiladas with yellow cheese? :ohno: I just don't get texmex
EL_PELADO August 30th, 2007, 03:21 AM Congratulations to El Paso, Texas for second place ranking Overall and as Most Cost Effective, plus Top Five ranking for Best Human Resources in the 2007/2008 North American Cities of the Future competition by fDi magazine for the Large Cities category (500,000 to 2 million population). This competitive ranking is featured in the April 2007 issue of fDi magazine. Article.
This unique global benchmarking research project compared business investment climates and urban development across North America. This business location benchmarking and "short list" screening process is similar to the approach commonly used by professional consultants.
Note that Ciudad Juarez, Mexico was also recognized separately as a winner, so the greater El Paso / Ciudad Juarez metro region captured six of the top awards in this North American competition.

It does seem strange doesn't it? I've always thought that 'El Paso, New Mexico' has a nice ring to it. El Paso should break off from Texas and join our state!:D

Multicultural is the way the world's going... adapt or die out.
I live in the South, I think the border fence is a shitty idea, and actually like hearing/seeing multiple languages (even when I understand very little of it).
There really is no reason for borders, anywhere. Period. Let people be free, instead of buying into all this nationalistic bullshit.
Sure, there'll be criminals crossing. There are probably American-born criminals in your neighborhood, who cares whether they're from Greenville or Guadalajara.

sasa_taisa November 5th, 2008, 06:09 AM Ok, so i felt like giving this thread a +1 because it deserves it. I don't know if there are members from El Paso but, as a citizen of the metropolitan area of Cd Juarez-El Paso, i'll try to keep this up along with my other friends from Cd Juarez. I don't know why the hate towards mexicans...we're not all the same, you know? besides hate leads to more hate...
Anyway, let's give this a shot, maybe it'll work.
regards!

what about san diego and tijuana being the largest?
this creates a 4,458,864 reagion
sasa_taisa November 5th, 2008, 11:34 PM what about san diego and tijuana being the largest?
this creates a 4,458,864 reagion
the main difference is that, as you saw previously on the pictures, the cities are the same one; only divided by the rio grande river. San Diego and tijuana's population are larger BUT due to their metro area's. Besides that, the number of exports/imports done here ( Cd Juarez-El Paso ) is greater. Kinnda difficult to explain but yeah...in terms of exports and imports this border is larger, or so we've been told.
ChapinUrbano November 7th, 2008, 12:08 AM Looks nice El Paso, very vibrant, tons of people in the streets, and you can see the Tex-Mex culture, a little bit of both everywhere.
Thanks.

Don't mind g-man he's just a resident weirdo.
Lonesome Traveler May 5th, 2009, 03:15 AM El Paso can be hell if you're not Mexican. It's hard to get a job if you're not a Mexican and don't speak Spanish.
I lived there for 1 year and thanks God I moved. There's nothing to do in the city. Everything close very early, it's hard to find a place that deliver food, bad drivers all around, it's a very poor city.
Everything there is about Mexico. Downtown area could be more attractive because of the beautiful old buildings but there are Mexicans everywehre selling their Made in China products in those nice buildings. If the government tries to do something, they will feel sorry for themselves as usual.
Restaurants in downtown are bad.
A good place to eat breakfast is at Camino Real. They serve a decent breakfast buffet and every Sunday there is a nice brunch there and it's not so expensive.
Many people go there to learn English because everything is cheaper and it's frustrating to find Mexican culture instead. Mexicans in El Paso believe El Paso is Mexico and tourists are supposed to speak Spanish.
I had a bad experience there, I hated that city, I hated the weather and I will never return. If I wanted to experience Mexico, I'd go to Mexico not to El Paso, Texas, USA.
Sorry guys. I have some pictures, I'll share soon.

Well, it is the Border. Everything has to be about Mexico because many people are trying to cross it. I am pretty sure Mexicans visiting Ciudad Juarez think the city is all about the US and would much rather visit Chicago. BTW El Paso is part of a metro of which the greater part is in Mexico so I guess it's understandable.

Dude, if you feel that strongly about it you might want to avoid the entire state of Texas.
Texan#1 May 5th, 2009, 06:21 AM El Paso looks nice.
Dude, if you feel that strongly about it you might want to avoid the entire state of Texas. I know what he means. I grew up in the DFW area and I moved to El Paso after college and it really is a completely world down there. Dallas and the other large Texas cities have pockets of Mexican neighborhoods and El Paso has pockets of American neighborhoods lol

EXACTLY. El paso depends on juarez ( not entirely, tho' the difference in population affects this situation somehow )
El Paso looks nice.
Dude, if you feel that strongly about it you might want to avoid the entire state of Texas.
I lol'd hard. Sometimes i have a hard time when it comes to understand why a lot of texans are racist but...oh well....i guess i would feel the same if a lot of americans came to flood juarez with....cheeseburgers?

I know what he means. I grew up in the DFW area and I moved to El Paso after college and it really is a completely world down there. Dallas and the other large Texas cities have pockets of Mexican neighborhoods and El Paso has pockets of American neighborhoods lol
Even tho' i'm mexican...i wouldn't choose el paso as a city to live because it's waaaay boring, there's nothing new, always the same ol' hell paso. Actually...i would rather live in canada. no offense but canadians are usualy more friendly towards mexicans and other immigrants
SouthmoreAvenue September 12th, 2009, 07:21 PM nice skyline pictures, 1692
They have to be the best El Paso "skyline" picture ive seen, so far.
desertpunk October 18th, 2009, 11:42 AM I absolutely love El Paso for many of the same reasons others dislike it. It's unpretentious, working class, gritty in all the right ways and an incredibly comfortable place to hang out! I've never experienced a language barrier there because EVERYBODY'S BILINGUAL! If they don't speak english with you, it's probably not because they don't know how! There's so little violent crime in EP even though there are terrible struggles across the river. It's probably the safest city over 500,000 in the U.S. In the old days, if you wanted great food you'd just hop over to Juarez which always has unbelievable places to eat but with all the congestion at the bridges and all the hassles of Customs, El Paso is catching up and there's a growing slate of great restaurants in the city. And if El Paso seems poor it's because people of wealth in El Paso don't flaunt it like in Dallas or Houston. They live in splendor but El Paso ain't no Neiman Marcus kinda town, it rolls on the DL and delivers surprises when you'd least expect!
desertpunk October 18th, 2009, 11:48 AM Oh, and while I'm at it, El Paso has some of the sweetest architectural heritage west of the Mississippi, some of it restored but much of it waiting to be discovered...and I swear I'm going' down with my camera and show you exactly what I mean!
