Den Antwerpenaar August 27th, 2007, 01:42 PM What do you think/know about Belgium ?
Have you ever been in Belgium ? Where ?
What do you know about the Belgian cities (like Brussels, Antwerp, Ghent, Bruges, ...).
Let it know ! Please give an answer in English, French or Dutch ! :)
TohrAlkimista August 27th, 2007, 01:46 PM Not yet.
But I'd like to visit Brussels/Bruxelles. :)
Which is, in your opinion the most beautiful city of Belgium?
Den Antwerpenaar August 27th, 2007, 01:56 PM ^^ In my opinion, Antwerp is the most beautiful city of Belgium ! There is a very beautiful cathedral (the highest of the Benelux, 123m!), shopping facilities, a very beautiful railway station (Antwerpen-Centraal), ...
Brussels is also very beautiful. It's also the most interesting city of Belgium (and the capital) with very great and beautiful buildings (like the Palace of Justice (the 2nd largest building of the 19th century in Europe !), The ''Grote Markt'' (the most beautiful market place of the world), the Royal palace, ...)
If you want, you can take a look at the Belgian forum. There you can find many pictures of Antwerp, Brussels, ... :)
Falcon83 August 27th, 2007, 02:56 PM I've been to Antwerp, and I liked it. Brussels sucks though.
daniele1089 August 27th, 2007, 03:26 PM I know Santiago Calatrava has designed the new Liege railway station, isn't it?
daniele1089 August 27th, 2007, 03:32 PM It's an amazing project!!! I love it definitely!!!
alex81 August 27th, 2007, 03:32 PM I have been in Bruxelles, I thought it was better. There are only the Grand place and those little Manneken pis.
fcom1 August 27th, 2007, 03:36 PM once, and i think it's enough
Annibale August 27th, 2007, 04:03 PM How is the weather in theese weeks? i mean... what do you wear in belgium right now?

I've been in Bruges! One of the most beautiful cities I've ever seen
Eletrix August 27th, 2007, 04:25 PM I have been in Bruxelles, Ghent, Anverse (Antwerp), Brugge. I love Ghent, very nice city!
Shogun August 27th, 2007, 05:47 PM 3 day in Brussels and Antwerp
Lor86MI August 27th, 2007, 10:55 PM Brussels, Ghent, Antwerp and Liege
Carletto August 28th, 2007, 10:24 AM I've been twice to Brugge and Gent, and once to Antwerpen and Brussel. The first 2 are really some of the most beautiful towns in Europe and Antwerpen is really a beautiful city too. I was not impressed by Brussel at all, but I spent there too little time to judge it...
poller1 August 28th, 2007, 10:51 AM Very bad summer through Northwestern Europe this year... even Spain was cooler than average years... Only southeastern Europe had a really hot summer this year.
This week and until at least mid september the weather in Belgium will be :
partly coudy, minimum 12, maximum 20-21. Not that bad, but quite cool for the season.
It doesn't surprise me that Italians prefer Bruges, Ghent and Antwerp (mostly in that order) above Brussels.
Fanatic74 September 3rd, 2007, 10:27 PM Bruxelles(very nice),Charleroi(not good),La Louviere(a small a quiet town)
I liked the beers(the best in the world)and the girls(very beautiful)
GENIUS LOCI September 4th, 2007, 07:33 PM I love Bruges!
Federicoft September 4th, 2007, 08:07 PM Belgium? Italian queen!

urbane September 7th, 2007, 05:39 AM Been to the German speaking area of Belgium and found the scratched-out road signs rewritten in German very interesting. Saw Brussels and was disappointed in it: the Manneken Pis is a total tourist trap, the Grand Place was nice, and the EU quarter came across as being very cold, unhospitable, and not well integrated with the rest of the city. Furthermore, the highways in Belgium were the worst I have ever driven through in Europe (in huge contrast with the highways in the neighboring Netherlands).
Having said that, I have heard great things about Bruges and Antwerpen.

The Grand' Place is one of the most amazing squares in the world though! The first time I visited Brussels I was like:"What the fuck?". After many travels there, I must admit the city has a certain Je ne sais pas quoi.
markcode September 7th, 2007, 03:11 PM I've been in brussel 3 years ago for a cuple of months and I have to admit, although is not a big city, has got a very good public transport system; I found the gran place a beautiful square but not so big as I expected...
about the EU quarter I egree with Urbane; it's so cold!
TohrAlkimista September 7th, 2007, 03:20 PM Does anybody know something about Leuven?

In Belgium we say: '' Op Brussel word je niet van de eerste keer verliefd'' = You fall not in love with Brussels from the first time you visit the city !
And I have to say that it's true. At the first time I visited Brussels I thought 'I never come back here!' and my second time 'oh, nice city', ...
And now I come once a month or even a week in Brussels !:)
stemos September 10th, 2007, 11:19 AM I was in Antwerp for New Year's Eve. Actually I was in Amsterdam that period but since I had already lived that night in Amsterdam several times... I opted for a new one. So me and my friend decided to go elsewhere... she proposed Antwerp and so we did. I must admit I liked this town a lot... it was obviously overcrowded on Dec, 31st 2006 but I enjoyed it all the same... unfortunately it rained a lot just after the midnight... heavy showers obliged us to go back to the hotel earlier than I expected!

eh sì purtroppo quella notte lì è arrivata una grande tempesta. Hanno pure cancellato i fuochi d'artificio ufficiali - peccato.
