சேலம்: சேலம் மாநகரில் வரும் 12ம் தேதி முதல் போக்குவரத்து மாற்றம் செய்யப்படுகிறது. கலெக்டர் சந்திரகுமார் தலைமையில் நடந்த சாலை பாதுகாப்பு கூட்டத்தில், புது பஸ் ஸ்டாண்டில் வாகனங்களால் போக்குவரத்து நெரிசல் ஏற்படுவதாக தெரிவிக்கப்பட்டது. அதையடுத்து, ஓமலூர் மெயின்ரோடு, ஐந்து ரோடு ஆகிய பகுதிகளில் போக்குவரத்து நெரிசலை தவிர்க்க, சோதனை முயற்சியாக வரும் 12ம் தேதி முதல் புது பஸ் ஸ்டாண்டில் இருந்து போக்குவரத்து மாற்றம் செய்யப்படுகிறது. புது பஸ் ஸ்டாண்டில் இருந்து ஓமலூர், தர்மபுரி, பெங்களூர் பஸ்கள் மெய்யனூர் வழியாக ஐந்து ரோடு மூலம் பெங்களூர் பை-பாஸ் செல்லும் விதமாக போக்குவரத்து மாற்றம் செய்யப்படுகிறது. ஐந்து ரோடு ரவுண்டானா சேர்வராய்ஸ் ஹோட்டல் முன் தற்காலிக பஸ் நிறுதத்தில் பயணிகளை ஏற்றி கொண்டு, ஸ்டேட் பாங்க் ரவுண்டானா வழியாக பை-பாஸ் சாலையில் செல்ல நடவடிக்கை மேற்கொள்ளப்படவுள்ளது.

^^ This will create more chaos at the Meyyanur By-pass Road / Meyyanur Main road Junction. Inbound Buses from Erode/CBE/Namakkal/Trichy/MDU will be taking right onto Meyyanur bypass Road(towards ARRS Multiplex), and outbound buses bound for Bangalore/Hosur from ARRS Multiplex side will take right turn towards Shevaroys Food Mall.

They can try to route the Bangalore bound buses to reach Thiruvagoundanoor circle and take right towards Bangalore. This would mean that the bus will not get to Five Roads Junction and all passengers would have to board the bus at the terminus / ARRS Multiplex / Thiruvagoundanoor / State Bank Colony. But this will avoid traffic jam at the junction near the ARRS Multiplex.

ஓம லூர், டிச.9: அடிக்கல் நாட்டி இரண்டு ஆண்டுகளுக்குப் பிறகு தகவல் தொழில்நுட்பப் பூங்கா உள்கட்டமைப்பு வசதிகள் நாளை (வெள்ளிக்கிழமை) தொடங்குகின்றன.

சேலம் மற்றும் அதன் அண்டை மாவட்டங்களில் 51 பொறியியல் கல்லூரிகள் உள்ளன. இவற்றில் இருந்து ஆண்டு ஒன்றுக்கு சுமார் 2 ஆயிரம் கணினி பட்டதாரிகளும், 2 ஆயிரம் மின்னணு மற்றும் தகவல் தொடர்பியல் பட்டதாரிகளும், 7 ஆயிரம் எம்.பி.ஏ. மற்றும் எம்.சி.ஏ. பட்டதாரிகளும் படிப்பை முடித்து வெளியே வருகின்றனர்.

இவர்களுக்கான வேலைவாய்ப்புகள் சென்னை, பெங்களூரு போன்ற பெரு நகரங்களிலேயே கிடைத்து வருகிறது.

இதன் காரணமாக அவர்கள் சொந்த ஊரை விட்டு தொலைவில் சென்று குடியேறும் நிலை இருந்து வருகிறது.

இவர்களின் நீண்ட நாள் எதிர்பார்ப்பை நிறைவேற்றும் வண்ணம் சேலத்தில் தகவல் தொழில் நுட்பப் பூங்கா அமைக்கப்படும் என்று அரசு அறிவித்தது.

இதற்காக சேலம் மாநகராட்சி எல்லையில் அரபிக் கல்லூரி அருகில் 53 ஏக்கர் நிலம் தேர்வு செய்யப்பட்டது. இதையடுத்து கடந்த 14.9.07 அன்று சேலத்தில் நடைபெற்ற விழாவில் தகவல் தொழில்நுட்பப் பூங்கா அமைக்க முதல்வர் கருணாநிதி அடிக்கல் நாட்டினார்.

இதனிடையே பூங்காவுக்காக நிலம் கையகப்படுத்துவது தொடர்பான வழக்கு, உலகளாவிய பொருளாதார மந்த நிலை போன்றவற்றால் தொழில்நுட்பப் பூங்கா அமைக்கும் பணிகள் எதுவும் நடைபெறவில்லை.

ஏறத்தாழ இரண்டு ஆண்டுகளுக்குப் பிறகு ரூ.9.44 கோடி மதிப்பில் தகவல் தொழில்நுட்பப் பூங்காவில் சாலை, சுற்றுச் சுவர், கழிவு நீர் வடிகால் போன்ற உள் கட்டமைப்பு பணிகளை 11-ம் தேதி மாநில தகவல் தொழில்நுட்பத் துறை அமைச்சர் பூங்கோதை தலைமையில் நடைபெறும் விழாவில் வேளாண்மைத் துறை அமைச்சர் வீரபாண்டி ஆறுமுகம் தொடங்கி வைக்கிறார்.

சேலத்துக்கு விமான சேவை கடந்த ஒரு மாதத்துக்கு முன்பு தொடங்கப்பட்டது.

இந்த நிலையில் தொழில்நுட்பப் பூங்காவுக்கான முதற்கட்டப் பணிகளும் தொடங்கியுள்ளதால் சேலத்தில் தங்களது நிறுவனங்களைத் தொடங்க மென்பொருள் நிறுவனங்கள் ஆர்வம் காட்டக்கூடும் என்று எதிர்பார்க்கப்படுகிறது.

சேலம் விமான நிலையத்தில் இருந்து 10 நிமிஷங்களிலேயே தகவல் தொழில் நுட்பப் பூங்காவைச் சென்றடைய முடியும் என்பது குறிப்பிடத்தக்கது.

ஆனால் பூங்கா தொடங்க உள்ள இடத்துக்கு நேர் எதிரே மாநகரில் இருந்து கொண்டுசெல்லப்படும் மருத்துவமனைக் கழிவுகள், தொழிற்சாலை குப்பைகள் உள்ளிட்ட துர்நாற்றம் வீசும் கழிவுகள் இப்போது கொட்டப்பட்டு வருகின்றன.

பல கோடி மதிப்பில் உள்கட்டமைப்பு வசதிகள் நடைபெறும் அதே நேரத்தில் இதுபோன்ற குறைகளைச் சரி செய்ய வேண்டும் என்பதே அனைவரின் விருப்பம்.

Construction works for providing infrastructure for the Information Technology Park will be taken up on Friday.

Salem district administration has organised a function for the same in which Agriculture Minister Veerapandi S. Arumugam and IT Minister Poongothai Aladi Aruna would participate.

Inspecting the site here, Mr. Arumugam said that ELCOT, the nodal agency for the IT Park had already allotted a sum of Rs 9.44 crore for the building works.

The Park was coming up on 53-acre land on the Salem-Bangalore National Highways, which also was closer to the city and its airport.

The Minister after inspecting the works, pointed out that the works would be completed as per the schedule.

He asked ELCOT officials to take necessary action to relocate the existing electric poles on the Park site.

ELCOT Managing Director Santosh Babu would present a project report at the function in which Salem Collector J. Chandrakumar, District Revenue Officer M. Rajarathinam and others would participate.

Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi had laid foundation stone for the IT Park and special economic zone (SEZ) some two years ago.

இத்திட்டத்தில் பல்வேறு சலுகைககள் அறிவிக்கப்பட்டுள்ளன. தொழில் முனைவோருக்கான விளக்க கையேட்டையும் தயாரித்தது. அந்த கையேடு தற்போது வெளியிடப்பட்டுள்ளது. தொழில் முனைய விரும்புபவர்கள் கையேட்டில் உள்ள விளக்கங்களை படித்து பயன்பெறலாம். சேலம் மாவட்டத்தில், அயோத்தியாபட்டணம், மேச்சேரி, தாரமங்கலம், காடையாம்பட்டி, கொங்கணாபுரம், ஓமலூர், பெத்தநாயக்கன்பாளையம், தலைவாசல், ஏற்காடு ஆகிய ஒன்பது ஊராட்சி ஒன்றியங்கள் தொழில் வளத்தில் பின் தங்கிய பகுதியாக அறிவிக்கப்பட்டுள்ளன. இப்பகுதிகளில் மத்திய அரசின், பிரதமர் சுய வேலைவாய்ப்புத் திட்டத்தின் கீழ் தொழில் துவங்க மானியக் கடனுதவிகள் வழங்கப்படுகிறது. 25 லட்சம் ரூபாய் தொழில் துவங்கவும், சேவைத்தொழில் துவங்க 10 லட்சம் ரூபாய் வரையிலும் மானியக் கடனுதவி வழங்க நடவடிக்கை மேற்கொள்ளப்பட்டுள்ளது.

இந்த ஒன்றியங்களைச் சேர்ந்தவர்கள் வாய்ப்பை பயன்படுத்திக் கொள்ள வேண்டும். வேலைவாய்ப்பு பெருக்க மானியம், மாசற்ற சூழலுக்கான கூடுதல் மூலதன மானியம், குறைந்த அழுத்த மின் மானியம் போன்றவையும் வழங்கப்படுகிறது. இதை அனைவரும் பயன்படுத்தி தொழில் துறையில் சேலம் மாவட்டம் முதன்மை வகிக்க பாடுபட வேண்டும். இவ்வாறு அவர் பேசினார். சிறு, குறு தொழில் சங்க மாவட்ட தலைவர் மாரியப்பன், இந்தியன் வங்கி மண்டல துணை பொது மேலாளர் மகாதேவன், தொழில் முதலீட்டு கழக கிளை மேலாளர் தினகரன், திட்ட மேலாளர் கண்ணன் ஆகியோர் பேசினர்.

May be, that is why the state level function happend to be like local function. For other places Poogothai was there, even Stalin was there. Here Mr. VSA is carrying alone. It seems like ,we just need to pray to hit a fortune for Salem for now.

SALEM: The creation of basic infrastructure facilities in the Salem Information Technology (IT) Park is expected to be completed by the end of July 2010, Agriculture Minister Veerapandi S. Arumugam has said.

Inaugurating the construction works at the park here on Friday, the Minister said that facilities such as roads, drinking water supply provision, street lighting, communication infrastructure and other basic amenities would be created in the first phase. The Electronics Corporation of Tamil Nadu (ELCOT) had taken up 53.30 acres in the park in the first phase for the creation of facilities. A sum of Rs. 9.44 crore had been allotted for the works. The facilities will also include a 50,000 sq ft building for ELCOT.

The Corporation had already deposited a sum of Rs. 28 lakh with the Tamil Nadu Water Supply and Drainage Board for supply of five lakh litres of water in a day.

A total of five acres had been allotted for the Tamil Nadu Electricity Board for the establishment of a new substation. Talks were being held with BSNL and two private firms to provide communication facilities to the park.

சேலம்: சேலம் ஏற்காடு மலைத்தொடரில் 5, 100 ஹெக்டேர்களில் காஃபி பயிரிடப்பட்டுள்ளது. இங்கு அராபிகா வகை காஃபி அதிக அளவிலும், ரொபஸ்டா வகை காஃபி மிக குறைவாகவும் பயிரிடப்பட்டுள்ளது. ஆண்டு முழுவதும் சீரான பருவநிலை இருந்து வருவதாலும், காஃபி உற்பத்தி நல்ல நிலையில் உள்ளது. தற்போது தோட்டங்களில் காஃபி பழம் விட தொடங்கி விட்டது. கடந்த ஆண்டில் 3,000 மெட்ரிக் டன் காஃபி உற்பத்தி செய்யப்பட்டது.

இந்தாண்டு 3, 500 மெட்ரிக் டன் காஃபி உற்பத்தி கிடைக்கும் என எதிர்பார்க்கப்படுகிறது. காஃபி தோட்டங்களில் நவம்பர் முதல் மூன்று மாதம் வரை பழம் வந்து கொண்டிருக்கும். அவற்றை செடிகளில் இருந்து சேகரித்து, உலர வைத்து, பதப்படுத்தும்போது காஃபி கொட்டைகள் கிடைக்கும். அனைத்து காஃபி எஸ்டேட்களிலும் பழம் விடும் பருவம் துவங்கிவிட்டதால், அவற்றை சேகரிக்க அதிக அளவில் ஆட்கள் தேவைப்படுகின்றனர். மலைக்கிராமங்களில் வசிப்பவர்கள் பெரும்பாலும் வேறு நகரங்களுக்கு வேலைக்கு சென்றுவிட்டதாலும், தோட்ட வேலைக்கு வருவதில் அதிக ஆர்வம் காட்டாததாலும், பழம் சகரிக்கும் ஆட்களுக்கு கடும் பற்றாக்குறை நிலவுகிறது. காஃபி எஸ்டேட் மேலாளர் ஒருவர் கூறியதாவது: பொதுவாக காஃபி தோட்ட ஊழியருக்கு ஒரு நாளைக்கு 115.85 ரூபாய் கூலியாக நிர்ணயிக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது.

தற்போது ஒரே சமயத்தில் அனைத்து எஸ்டேட்களுக்கும் ஆட்கள் தேவைப்படுவதால், ஆட்கள் கிடைப்பது குதிரைக்கொம்பாக உள்ளது. அதனால் ஒரு கிலோவுக்கு 3 ரூபாய் வீதம் கூலி வழங்குவது, வேன் மற்றும் வாகனங்கள் மூலம் தோட்டத்துக்கு அழைத்து வருவது உள்ளிட்ட சலுகைகளையும் எஸ்டேட் செய்து தருகிறது. ஒரு நாளைக்கு 100 கிலோ வரை பழங்களை சேகரிக்கலாம். அதற்கும் தற்போது ஆட்கள் கிடைப்பதில்லை. பல கிலோ மீட்டர் தூரம் வரை உள்ள கிராமங்களுக்கு வாகனங்களை அனுப்பி ஆட்களை அழைத்துவரும் கட்டாயமும் ஏற்பட்டுள்ளது, என்றார்.

ஐ.ஏ.எஸ்., அதிகாரிகளின் மனதில் ஆயிரம் கனவுகள் இருக்கும். அவற்றை நிறைவேற்ற அரசியல்வாதிகளின் ஒத்து ழைப்பு இருக்க வேண்டும். சேலத்தில் நிறுவப்பட்டுள்ள சிறப்பு பொருளாதார மண்டலத்தில் 163 ஏக்கர் நிலம் உள்ளது. முதல் கட்டமாக 53 ஏக்கரில் கட்டமைப்பு பணிகள் நடக்க உள்ளன. ஒரு ஏக்கர் 17.50 லட்சம் ரூபாய். சாஃப்ட்வேர் கம் பெனி துவங்கி மூன்று ஆண்டுகள் தொடர்ந்து இயங்க வேண்டும். மூன்று கோடி ரூபாய் டர்ன் ஓவர் இருக்க வேண்டும். 50 சதவீதம் ஏற்றுமதி செய்திருக்க வேண்டும் போன்ற விதிமுறைகளின்படியே நிலம் ஒதுக்கப்படுகிறது. தற்போது நான்கு கம்பெனிகள் விண்ணப்பித்துள்ளன. பரிசீலனைக்கு பின் அனுமதி வழங்கப்படும். சேலத்தில் சாஃப்ட்வேர் துறை வளர்ச்சி பெற்றால் பெங்களூரு, சென்னை செல்ல வேண்டிய தேவையில்லை. திருநெல்வேலி, திருச்சி, மதுரை போன்ற நகரங்களில் எம்பவர் ஐ.டி., மையங்கள் அமைக்கப்பட்டுள்ளன. ஆயிரக்கணக்கான மாணவ, மாணவியர் பயிற்சி பெறும் இம்மையங்கள் அமைக்க கூடுதல் நிதி ஒதுக்கீடு தேவைப்படும். சேலம் உள்ளிட்ட ஒன்பது நகரங்களில் தகவல் தொழில்நுட்ப பூங்கா கட்டமைப்பு பணிகள் நடந்து வருகிறது.

கிருஷ்ணகிரி மாவட்டத்தில், பஞ்சாயத்து அளவில் பி.பி.ஓ., சென்டர்கள் திறக்கப்பட்டு பயிற்சி அளிக்கப்பட்டது. அனைத்து மாவட்டங்களிலும் இந்த முறையை செயல்படுத்த அரசு திட்டமிட்டுள்ளது. சேலத்தில் 50 ஆயிரம் சதுர அடியில் எல்காட் அலுவலகம் அமைக்கப்படுகிறது. ஜூலையில் அனைத்து உள்கட்டமைப்பு பணிகளும் நிறைவடையும். பெரிய சாஃப்ட்வேர் கம்பெனிகள் வரும்பட்சத்தில் சேலம் பெரும் தொழில் நகரமாக மாறும். விமான நிலையம், ஆறு வழிச்சாலை, சேலம் சிட்டி என அருகிலேயே அனைத்து வசதிகளும் உள்ளன. தகவல் தொழில்நுட்ப கம்பெனிகள் மூலம் ஆயிரக்கணக்கானோர் வேலைவாய்ப்பு பெறுவர். இவ்வாறு அவர் பேசினார்.

சேலம், டிச.11: சேலம் அரசு மருத்துவக் கல்லூரியில் மாணவர் இடங்களின் எண்ணிக்கையை 150 ஆக உயர்த்தப் பாடுபடுவேன் என்று புதிய முதல்வராக பொறுப்பேற்ற டாக்டர் வி.கனசபை (55) தெரிவித்தார்.

சேலம் அரசு மருத்துவக் கல்லூரி மருத்துவமனையின் புதிய முதல்வராக டாக்டர் கனகசபை வெள்ளிக்கிழமை காலை பொறுப்பேற்றார். இதையடுத்து அவர் செய்தியாளர்களிடம் கூறியது:

சேலத்தில் சுமார் ரூ.150 கோடி செலவில் சூப்பர் ஸ்பெஷாலிட்டி மருத்துவமனை கட்டப்பட்டு வருகிறது. இப் பணியை தீவிரப்படுத்தி விரைவில் முடிக்க நடவடிக்கை மேற்கொள்ளப்படும். அதேபோல் சேலம் மருத்துவக் கல்லூரியில் இப்போது 75 மாணவர்களுக்கு மட்டுமே அனுமதி உள்ளது. ஆனால் இங்கு 150 மாணவர்கள் பயில்வதற்கான தகுதிகள், அடிப்படை வசதிகள் உள்ளன.

எனவே இதுகுறித்து அரசுக்கு தெரிவிக்கப்பட்டு மாணவர் எண்ணிக்கையை 150 ஆக உயர்த்த வலியுறுத்துவேன்.

Rail connectivity to city from various parts of State has vastly improved

Works on Salem-Attur-Chennai at a cost of Rs 136.36 crore are underway

SALEM: “Salem district is fast emerging self-content in infrastructure needs with good road, rail and air connectivity, which will be much conducive for sweeping industrial development in western zone next to Coimbatore,” according to Veerapandi S Arumugam, Agriculture Minister.

The Minister detailed various mega development works of the State and Central governments being executed at a cost of Rs. 3500 crore. He was addressing the media here on Sunday.

The development of IT Park had already begun. The ELCOT, the main executing agency of IT Parks in the State, would develop the plots and hand over the same to IT and ITES firms. “Besides four well-known firms, a few others have expressed their interests. We have decided to woo even smaller firms by allotting a minimum of one acre to 5 acres to develop,” he said.

With the commissioning of the Salem Railway Division, the rail connectivity to the city from various parts of the State had vastly improved. As Kingfisher Airlines had begun operating flights, the long time demand for air connectivity to this part of the State had also been fulfilled. “We have written to the Ministry of Civil Aviation to install warning lights atop the hills that surround the airport along with night landing facilities,” he added.

The road network had undergone a vast change with Salem-Bangalore, Salem-Karur-Madurai, Salem-Chengapalli-Coimbatore becoming four-lanes. “Works on the Salem-Attur-Chennai road at a cost of Rs 136.36 crore also are underway,” he said. While the Salem Steel Plant was on the expansion mode with Rs. 1750 crore, the construction works on the Super Speciality Hospital at a cost of Rs. 139.91 crore would be completed next year. The Thermal Power station at Mettur would add a 600 MW power in addition.

சேலம்: ""சேலம் மாவட்டத்தில், 12 பின் தங்கிய வட்டாரங்களில் நவோதயா மாதிரி பள்ளிகள் அமைக்கப்படும்,'' என வேளாண் அமைச்சர் வீரபாண்டிஆறுமுகம் தெரிவித்தார். வேளாண் அமைச்சர் வீரபாண்டி ஆறுமுகம், சேலத்தில் நேற்று நிருபர்களிடம் கூறிய தாவது: சேலம் மாவட்டத்தில் காடையாம்பட்டி, இடைப்பாடி, கொங்கணாபுரம், நங்கவள்ளி, சங்ககிரி, மகுடஞ்சாவடி, பனமரத்துப்பட்டி, பெத்தநாயக்கன் பாளையம், தாரமங்கலம், ஏற்காடு, பனமரத்துப்பட்டி ஆகிய 12 பின்தங்கிய வட்டாரங்களில் நவோதயா மாதிரி பள்ளிகள் துவக்கப்படும். பள்ளி அமைக்க மத்திய அரசு 75 சதவீதமும், மாநில அரசு 25 சதவீதமும் நிதி வழங்குகின்றன.

ஒவ்வொரு பள்ளிக்கும் கட்டிடம், தளவாடங்களுக்காக மூன்று கோடியே இரண்டு லட்சம் ரூபாயும், ஆசிரியர் சம்பளம், இதர செலவினங்கள் ஆகியவற்றுக்கு ஆண்டுதோறும் 75 லட்சம் ரூபாயும் வழங்கப்படும். இப்பள்ளிகளுக்கான பாடத்திட்டத்தை மாநில அரசு முடிவு செய்யும். பள்ளிகள் அடுத்த கல்வியாண்டில் செயல்பட நடவடிக்கை எடுக்கப்படும்.

சேலத்தில் 139 கோடியே 31 லட்சம் ரூபாய் மதிப்பில் நடக்கும் சூப்பர் ஸ்பெஷாலிட்டி மருத்துவமனை பணி 2010 மார்ச்சில் முடிவடையும். சேலம் அரசு மருத்துவமனையில் 10 கோடி ரூபாய் மதிப்பில் செவிலியர் விடுதி கட்டும் பணி 2010 ஏப்ரலில் நிறைவடையும். ஆத்தூர், மேட்டூர் அரசு மருத்துவமனைகள், மாவட்ட மருத்துவமனை அளவுக்கு தரம் உயர்த்தப்படும்.

சேலம் அரசு மோகன் குமாரமங்கலம் மருத்துவ கல்லூரியில் மாணவர் சேர்க்கை எண்ணிக்கை 75ல் இருந்து 150 ஆக அதிகரித்து, வரும் கல்வியாண்டில் மாணவர் சேர்க்கை நடத்த நடவடிக்கை எடுக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது. சேலம் தனி குடிநீர் திட்டம் 283 கோடியே ஒன்பது லட்சம் ரூபாயில் செய்திட, டெண்டர் கோரப்பட்டுள்ளது.

2011ல் பணி முடிக்கப்படும். மேட்டூர்- ஆத்தூர் குடிநீர் திட்டத்தை விரிவாக்கம் செய்து நரசிங்கபுரம், ஆத்தூர் நகராட்சிகள், 13 பேரூராட்சிகள், தலைவாசல், கெங்கவல்லி யூனியன் பகுதிகள், 928 கிராமங்கள் ஆகியவற்றுக்கு காவிரி குடிநீர் வழங்க, 295 கோடியே 55 லட்சம் ரூபாயை மாநில அரசு அனுமதித்துள்ளது.

ஃபுளோரைடு பிரச்னையை தீர்க்க, புதிதாக 2,078 குடியிருப்புகளுக்கு காவிரி குடிநீர் வழங்கும் திட்டம் ஜூனுக்குள் நிறைவடையும்.சேலத்தில் பாதாளசாக்கடை அமைக்கும் 184 கோடி ரூபாய் மதிப்பிலான திட்டம் 2011ல் முடிவடையும். சேலத்தில் திடக்கழிவு மேலாண்மை திட்டம் துவக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது.

சேலம் நகரின் முக்கிய ரோடுகள் அகலம் செய்யப்பட்டுள்ளது. போக்குவரத்து நெருக்கடி மிகுந்த ரோடுகளை அகலப்படுத்தவும், ஆக்ரமிப்புகளை அகற்றவும் ஆலோசனை செய்கிறோம். சேலத்தில் நிலத்தடி மின்கேபிள் பதிக்கும் பணி 2008ல் துவக்கப்பட்டது. அது 2012ல் முடிக்கப்படும்.மக்கள் நலனுக்காக சேலத்தில் விமானசேவை மீண்டும் துவக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது.

சேலத்தில் இருந்து சென்னைக்கு காலையில் விமானம் இயக்கவும், அங்கிருந்து மாலையில் சேலத்துக்கு விமானம் இயக்கவும் கேட்கப்பட்டுள்ளது.முதியோர் உதவித்தொகை, திருமண உதவித்தொகை உள்ளிட்டவை வழங்குவதில், இடைத்தரகர்கள் தலையீடு இருந்தால், அது கண்டிக்கத்தக்கது. அரசு அதிகாரிகளும் சிலரும் தவறுக்கு உடந்தையாக செயல்படுவதாக என் கவனத்துக்கு வந்துள்ளது. நடவடிக்கை மேற்கொள்ளப்படும்.மேட்டூர் அணை பவளவிழா நினைவுத்தூண் அமைக்க, டிச., 22ல் கால்கோள் விழா நடக்கிறது.

சென்னையில் இருந்து முதல்வர், வீடியோ கான்பரன்ஸ் மூலம் அடிக்கல் நாட்ட, மேட்டூரில் விழா நடக்கிறது.தமிழகத்தில் உரம் தட்டுப்பாடு கிடையாது. தேவையான அளவு உரம் விவசாயிகளுக்கு கிடைக்கிறது. அரசியலுக்காக சிலர் அப்படி பேசுகின்றனர். செம்மை நெல் சாகுபடி, டெல்டா மாவட்டங்களில் நல்ல வரவேற்பை பெற்றுள்ளது.

அரசின் சாதனை திட்டங்களால் இடைத்தேர்தலில் தி.மு.க., வெற்றிபெறும். பி.டி. பருத்தி விதைகளால் பக்க ளைவுகள் உண்டா? என்பதை வேளாண் பல்கலையில் ஆய்வு செய்து, மத்திய அரசுக்கும் அனுப்பினோம். அவர்களும் அதை பரிந்துரை செய்தனர். இப்போது விவசாயிகள் பயன்படுத்துகின்றனர். பி.டி. கத்தரிக்காய் குறித்த சோதனைகள் நடக்கின்றன.சோதனைக்கே எதிர்ப்பு தெரிவிப்பது சரியல்ல. அது நாட்டின் வளர்ச்சியை பாதிக்கும்.இவ்வாறு அவர் கூறினார்.

Minister has to do some bla...bla...Its all in the game. As Arul said, unless Salem-Karur line is completed, there is no change in the rail connectivity concerning salem.

The way the project is handled, it will be another 5 years minimum, to see connectivity to central and south TN from salem.

as of now attur side construction is still on. after completion, vehicles from kondalampatti side bound to attur can use the flyover.. vehicles from attur side can use the service lanes and underpass.
the Selvi mess building(white building) which is seen in the middle of the flyover is going to be demolished for free flow of traffic from attur side and for the city vehicles to take the service lane towards gajjelnaickenpatti..

Mostly there will be flyover at Udayapati and Ayodhiyapatinam.

But I remember some where we discussed that there is going to be a change in alignment of Salem bye pass stretch on NH 68. Not sure.. we have to wait for reports from papers.

Yes you are correct. There is a plan for laying new by-pass road near Holy Cross School ( in Udayapatti & Ayodhyapattinam strech). It is pending due to some land acquisition problem.

Today I traveled in this new flyover. It is very nice. The other stretch(towards Attur) construction is still going on, seems this one will take little more time.

^^ Jagee, even if the interchange is complete in 2-3 months, it can be thrown open to traffic, only when the entire stretch of the road from the Interchange to Uthamacholapuram gets complete.
I have seen works on Uthamacholapuram interchange also progressing very fast, but did not see any notable construction on either sides in constructing the road between the two interchanges. I also believe that the road will have a bridge across the Tirumanimuthar river, and we do not have any update on the status of the same.

I believe that the Kandampatty side interchange will get to ground level only after the Salem - Namakkal - Karur BG line.

Ya, it resembles Trichy's MG Gate signal. Trichy (Main) Road in Salem is an arterial road and deserves to be much broader. Ofcourse, there are challenges coz of commercial/residential buildings on either sides.

And a year back I was in Trichy and Mainguard Gate intersection is changed - signals in place and manifold increase in traffic all-day.

1. Very good response from Salem people for Chennai flight say KF official
2. Due to geographical location of Airport, service cannot be provided after 6:00PM (Is should be because of non-availability of night landing facility)
3. On the first day itself the flight was occupied by 72 people the full capacity in one direction
4. One month completed for this new service
5. Fare ranges from 2359INR to 5000INR
6. On an average 40 passengers use the flight in one direction. (It was more than 60 in weekends)
7. Jet Airways and Paramount airways also considering their service on Salem-Chennai sector.

Good updates on this grade separator. All those are suicidal candidates. But NHAI might have not installed any sign boards there. After a fatal accident in Kathipara, highways department installed sign board there. I hope they install big sign boards before any accidents happens there.

The Government of India through the Central Silk Board (CSB) is supporting for the establishment of multi-end reeling units and automatic reeling units for the benefit of Silk Industry under the Catalytic Development Programme (CDP). The Minister further said that with a view to facilitate production of quality raw silk of international standards, support was provided for the establishment of one automatic reeling unit in Gobichettypalayam under the X plan. The said automatic reeling unit was inaugurated during August, 2008 and has started commercial production. This reeling unit can absorb the cocoon produced in Udumalpet, Pollachi and Puravipalayam areas due to its proximity to Gobichettypalayam.

Under the XI Plan, Government of India through Central Silk Board (CSB) is extending support for the establishment of two automatic reeling units, one in Udumalpet (Erode District} and the other in Edappadi (Salem District), the Minister added.

The government is supporting for the establishment of multi-end reeling units and automatic reeling units for the benefit of sericulture under CDP, said Minister of State for Textiles, Panabaaka Lakshmi informed the Lok Sabha on Thursday.

Schools to get toilets, laboratories

SALEM: Department of School Education carried out an assessment study on the infrastructural needs of schools at a workshop at Golden Gates Higher Secondary School here on Friday.
Workshop

The workshop, conducted by Joint Director for Education (High and Higher Secondary Schools), S. Karmegam, discussed the issues relating to infrastructural needs of various schools including the staff strength.

Block-level engineers, Sarva Shisya Abhiyan (SSA) co-ordinators and head masters from each district participated in the workshop.

The participants put forward their proposals and the needs to which the officials replied. They said that 1,400 teachers would be appointed shortly in the State.

Laboratories, buildings, toilets and other facilities would be added to schools which did not have the same.

Girls hostels also would be built, the officials pointed out.

Mr. Karmegam said that 44 model schools would be opened during this fiscal while 18 of them would be opened under first phase with a total outlay of Rs. 3.77 crore.

Promoting development: A delegation of industrialists from Salem visited Gujarat and interacted with Chief Minister Narendra Modi on industrial needs recently. —

SALEM: A 20-member team from Small Scale Industries, Salem, which undertook a nine-day trip to Gujarat, returned here with a bagful of promises from the Gujarat Government.

The delegation met Chief Minister Narendra Modi who in his 30-minute interaction had assured the team from Salem that his government would extend all assistance in areas of technology transfer and also “to expand and set up new industries in the district, particularly in agro-based, chemical, textile and engineering sectors.”

The Chief Secretary D. Raja Gopalan, on whose invitation the Salem team undertook the Gujarat tour, had also endorsed the Chief Minister’s promises.

He told the delegates that the Gujarat Government would be ready to assist the entrepreneurs in Salem district for the promotion of new industries with export potential in the small scale sector.

The team also visited industrial estates at Bavla, Ahmedabad, Rajkot, Jeipur, Morbi Vadodora, etc., and a Special Economic Zone at Suzion near Baroda. They inspected a foundry cluster at Ahmedabad.

D. Thara, Managing Director of Gujarat Agro Industries Development Corporation, briefed the team about Gujarat’s various agro-based industries and export items of agro products, and also arranged for industrial visits to modern rice mills and spices processing industries.
Technology transfer

She promised help for technology transfer on tomato puree, mango pulp production, etc. B.B.Swamin, Industries Commissioner, H.D. Shrimali, Additional Commissioner of Industries, R.N.Raval, Deputy Commissioner of Industries, S.A.Dula, Advisor, Industrial Extension Bureau and M. V. Thiruppugazh, Commissioner of Information, explained the success of Gujarat industry. Association President Mariappan, who led the team, told The Hindu that the State had no power cut and no stabilizer was needed even for home appliances.

To promote the industry a new incentive scheme – ‘Interest Subsidy Scheme’ - was being implemented by which any MSME unit was eligible to avail itself of the interest subsidy at Rs.25 lakh per annum for five continuous years, subject to the only condition that the beneficiary had to submit a confirmation letter for the remittance of the interest by the bank manager concerned.

Mr. Mariappan said that he would soon submit a report of the tour to the Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu urging them to usher in such an industry-friendly climate, particularly for small scale and tiny industries as in the state of Gujarat.

Mettur dam’s platinum jubilee celebration to begin today

CHENNAI: The Stanley reservoir or Mettur dam, which symbolises the lifeline of Tamil Nadu agriculture, has completed 75 years. Its platinum jubilee celebration will formally begin on Tuesday with Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi inaugurating work on a couple of monuments to be built.

Built across the Cauvery river, the dam, which directly feeds water for irrigation on 16 lakh acres, has been in the spotlight ever since the Cauvery dispute has become more intense.

A 75-foot-tall tower at the right side of the dam and an arch will be constructed. The State government has sanctioned Rs. 1 crore for the celebration.

Through video-conferencing, the Chief Minister will kick off the celebration at the Secretariat. At the dam site, a function will take place with the participation of the Agriculture Minister Veerapandi S. Arumugam and Deputy Speaker V.P. Duraisamy.

The dam, named after George Stanley who was Madras Governor during 1929-1934, measures 5,300 feet in length and 176 feet in height. The construction work, which commenced on July 20, 1925, was completed on July 14, 1934. A sum of Rs. 6.12 crore was set apart for the construction of the dam.

The idea of building a dam was originally mooted in 1904 by H.A. Moss with a capacity of 40 thousand million cubic feet (tmc ft). Six years later, W.M. Ellis, who was made special superintending engineer, submitted a report, proposing a higher capacity – 80 tmc ft. By then, the government of the Mysore State, which started working on what came to be known as Krishnaraja Sagar dam of 11 tmc ft in the initial phase, wanted the permission of the British government at the Centre for increasing the storage to 41.5 tmc ft.in the next stage. Sir M. Visveswarayya was the architect of the KRS dam project.

However, at this point of time, dispute arose between the Madras and Mysore governments. This was resolved through the 1924 agreement.:lol:

The design of the dam underwent a major change as the Cauvery witnessed unprecedented floods of about 4.5 lakh cubic feet per second (cusecs) on July 26, 1924. This factor made the authorities to increase the flood discharge of the proposed dam. Eventually, the officials zeroed in on the present location.

It was only after the Madras-Mysore agreement that the nod came from London in March 1925 for building the Mettur dam. The approval came through a cable, A. Mohanakrishnan, Advisor, Water Resources of the State government, says. Four months later, Viscount Goschen, Madras Governor, inaugurated the scheme. Nine years later, the dam work was completed.

The component of hydropower generation, though originally envisaged, became a reality only in the late 1930s. The east and west bank canals of the dam were constructed in 1955 to feed farmers in Salem and Erode districts.

பவளவிழாவை முன்னிட்டு, அணை வலதுகரையில் சுற்றுலா பயணிகள் உச்சிக்கு சென்று அணையை பார்வையிடும் வகையில் ஒரு கோடி ரூபாய் மதிப்பீட்டில் லிப்ட் வசதியுடன் கூடிய 75 அடி உயர பவள விழா நினைவு கோபுரம் கட்டப்படவுள்ளது. அதற்கான அடிக்கல்நாட்டு விழா இன்று நடக்கிறது.

Senthil, yes there is one more Salem is western hemisphere.

But our history claims the word Salem is derived from Sailam which denotes the places surrounded by mountains.

The name Salem appears to have been derived from hai or Shalya or Sayilam which are found in inscriptions referring to the country around the hills. Salem and the hilly region around it were part of the Chera and Kongu country in ancient times.

And one more claim says Avvaiyar called the three great kingdoms of ancient tamils viz Cholas, Pandyas and Cheras as part of peace program among tamil kingdoms, so the cheras built Cheram (then got seram and then selam), pandyas built Veerapandi (5KM off NH47 Salem 25KM approx) and Cholas built Uthamacholapuram (on NH 47, Salem 10KM approx)

SALEM: Police Commissioner Sunil Kumar Singh has asked citizens to wear helmets while driving two-wheelers from New Year Day.

Pointing out that helmet should be treated as a life-saving gadget instead of an object of ‘inconvenience,’ the Commissioner said that fatal accidents on city roads had occurred because of non-compliance of the helmet rule.

The city police would undertake various measures to create awareness among the people in this regard before implementing the rule from January 1.

The Commissioner said that the city police had so far registered 38,197 petty motor vehicles cases and had disposed off 3,214 cases thus realising revenue of Rs. 4.80 lakhs towards fines. He said that after January 1, traffic rule violators would be severely dealt with. Strong deterrent action would be taken against signal jumpers, drivers under alcoholic influence, helmet-less riders and rash driving.

The Commissioner made arrangements to make available the relevant papers to register these petty traffic crimes. He asked the citizens to adhere to traffic rules very strictly. The Rural Police would also implement the helmet rule.

Helmet Club at its monthly meeting held here recently had welcomed the decision to make compulsory the wearing of helmet.

It asked two-wheeler riders to purchase ISI-marked helmets only. The Club asked its members to wear helmets. It will take out a rally in the city.

400 houses for slum dwellers under construction in Kitchipalayam

SALEM: The State Government has taken steps to implement a dedicated water supply scheme to ensure round-the-clock supply to the people in Salem City, Agriculture Minister Veerapandi S. Arumugam has said.

Participating at a free colour television sets distribution programme held here on Thursday, the minister said that the scheme would be implemented at a cost of Rs. 283 crore.

Assurance
Mr. Arumugam assured that all the eligible families in the district would be given free colour television sets within June 2010.

Earlier participating in another function, the minister said the State government was constructing 400 houses for the slum dwellers at a cost of Rs. 10.26 crore in Kitchipalayam.

The works were expected to be completed by the end of 2010.

The government also took up the laying of power cables underground at a cost of Rs. 204 crore, he added.

Development works
He also listed out a number of development works being carried out in the Salem Corporation limits including Tirumanimutharu River improvement scheme, solid waste management programme, construction of super speciality hospital, new Collectorate complex and additional buildings in Salem Government Medical College Hospital.

The minister handed over 25,000 colour television sets to beneficiaries in wards 9,10,11,26, 27, 28, 29,30,31,32,33,35 and 36 in the two functions.

District Revenue Officer M. Rajarathinam presided over the function.

Mayor J. Rekha Priyadarshini, Deputy Mayor C. Panneerselvam Corporation Commissioner K.S. Palanisamy and senior officials were present.

SALEM: Various ways are being explored to “modernise and revive’ the powerloom sector in Salem district with experts and bankers analysing the causes that led to its deterioration and also suggesting remedies for its revamping.

Organised jointly by the Salem District Small Scale and Tiny Industries Association, Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Development Institute (Chennai) and Salem Unit of Textiles Association of India, the day-long seminar - “Modernisation of Powerloom Sector for high performance and various incentives of Government of India” , held recently, attracted more than 200 powerloom entrepreneurs from Rasipuram, Vennandur, Ilampillai, Komarapalayam, Jalakandapuram, Edapady and other places in Salem and Namakkal districts.

Lajrash M. Parmar, Senior Scientific Officer, Madhya Pradesh Weaving Division and Ahmedabad Textile Industries Research Association listed out various Technical Upgradation Fund Schemes (TUFS) of Government of India for saving and reviving the struggling powerloom industry in Salem district.
Expenses

The scheme would provide administrative expenses such as Rs.15 lakhs for ‘A’ class cities, Rs.10 lakhs for ‘B’ class cities like Salem and Rs.5 lakhs for ‘C’ class cities for 5-day programmes.

Exposure visits to powerloom clusters and technical sessions also would be encouraged, he pointed out.

Further to install modern machinery for quality and maximum production and for better utilization and efficiency, which in turn would enable the Indian Textile Industry to compete in domestic as well as in international markets, subsidies were also available.

this message is not true fully. until 1792, there is no salem district. Salem is under Dharmapuri district and headquarter also dharmapuri. In 1792, British changed dharmapuri district into salem district and also the headquarters from dharmapuri to salem. So salem district and headquarter is formed by British for administrative purpose. this is the real history as i had read.

சேலம்: வட மாநிலத்துக்கு சென்றுவிட்டு சென்னை திரும்பும் ரயிலை, சென்னை எழும்பூர்- சேலம் ரயிலாக இயக்குவதால், அடிக்கடி ரயில் சேவை ரத்து செய்யப்படுவது தொடர்கிறது. அதனால், சென்னை எழும்பூர்- சேலம் வழித்தடத்துக்கென தனி ரயிலை இயக்க வேண்டும்.
சேலம்- விருத்தாசலம் இடையில் அகல ரயில்பாதை அமைக்கப்பட்ட பின், 2007 நவம்பரில் பயணிகள் ரயில்சேவை துவங்கியது. சேலம்- விருத்தாசலம் இடையில் அகல ரயில்பாதை அமைக்கப்பட்ட பின் சேலம்- புதுச்சேரி, சேலம்- கடலூர், சேலம்- சென்னை, சேலம்- திருச்சி வரை நேரடியான ரயில்பாதை வசதி உருவானது.

கொச்சி, கோவை, ஈரோடு, சேலம் ஆகிய நகரங்களை சென்னையுடன் இணைக்கும் முக்கிய வழித்தடமாக சேலம்- உளுந்தூர்பேட்டை தேசிய நெடுஞ்சாலை உள்ளது. மொத்தம் 136 கி.மீ., நீளமுள்ள சாலை, நான்கு வழிச்சாலையாக மாற்றப்படுகிறது. நான்கு வழிச்சாலை திட்டத்தில் ஏழு பை- பாஸ் ரோடுகள், மூன்று ரயில்வே மேம்பாலங்கள், மூன்று பெரிய பாலங்கள், 26 சிறிய பாலங்கள், 27 குறுகிய பாலங்கள் அமைக்கப் படுகின்றன. இதற்கென, ஏற்கனவே இருக்கும் சாலையை ஒட்டி, 60 மீ., அகலத்துக்கு நிலம் கையகப்படுத்தப்படுகிறது.

None of the projects are approved on flyovers and Salem corporation so far never uttered anything about their plans with jnnurm funds! Because of NHAI we are getting few flyovers in outskirts.

First all the city roads should be made free from railway crossing as the Salem Junction-Vridhachalam line passes through heart of the city and cutting into two halves. SR/Salem Division has to work on this just like they made plans for making Coimbatore as railway level crossing free city.

Arul, The dumb Salem Corporation will not ask the Udayapatti - Ayodhyapattinam - Karipatti stretch of current NH-68 on its hands for sure. It will in all probability go to the State Highways department.

And I am very sure that Corporation Authorities will have absolutely no idea about the execution of the new alignment as they lack the vision to build a better infrastructure.

BS reported that the Indian government is to shortly consider the recommendation to sell three units of Burn Standard Company Ltd, an ailing public sector undertaking.

The Board for Restructuring Public Sector Enterprises has, as reported earlier, approved the sale of its wagon units at Howrah and Burnpur in West Bengal to Indian Railways and that of its refractory unit at Salem to Steel Authority of India.

Mr Nitish Sengupta chairman of BRPSE said that “A note regarding this is being prepared and should be placed before the Cabinet in the next 15 to 20 days.”

Burn Standard is under the Ministry of Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises and has been making losses for years. However, the real estate value of the units for sale is expected to be substantial.

The Howrah Works cover 16.2 hectares with covered accommodation of 80,215 square meters and Burnpur Works have an area of 21 hectares, with a covered area of 45,000 square meters.

Major products made by the company include wagons, structurals, point and crossings and coaches.

SALEM: The death of two Rotarians from Kumbakonam when their car rammed into a State Transport Corporation bus on the Salem-Madurai National Highways 7 at Mallur on Sunday, has laid bare the danger that lurks behind the speedy travel on the newly-laid four-lane expressways in Tamil Nadu.
Service road

The long-distance bus from Salem to Madurai made a sharp right curve from the opposite direction of the highways and cut into the left lane before entering the service road to Mallur, a small suburban town.

The driver of the car cruising at a good speed in its designated lane on the left was caught unawares when the bus suddenly turned right and cut into his lane.
Efforts

Despite his efforts, the survivors claimed, the car had a brush against the rear of the long-chassis bus, capsized, killing the two and injuring others.

Such fatal accidents are not uncommon today on these newly-laid speed tracks, which ironically should ensure safe and speedy traffic flow.
Delayed

The works on the Bangalore-Salem-Madurai and Salem-Coimbatore sectors on the National Highways have been delayed for more than a year now.

The service roads also have not been formed at many places.

Overbridge works at many important junctions have not been taken up.
Firms

Mallur junction is one of many ‘dangerous’ spots where road overbridges are yet to be constructed to avoid head-on collision.

“Unfortunately though these highways ensure speedy traffic, they have failed to vouchsafe safe travel. Many of the firms that have taken up the works are lethargic and have compromised on quality.

Travel between Karur and Dindigul sector in the National Highways 7. You can feel the shoddy work,” says a taxi driver who regularly uses the highway.

“We witness at least two accidents a week at the junction where the Mallur service road and the National Highways meet,” an official at the Mallur police station points out.
Identify

Vehicle users feel that the authorities should identify dangerous spots like the one in Mallur and take steps to improve traffic safety immediately.

The construction of a flyover in Mallur would help avoid fatal accidents.

School to get new classrooms

SALEM: The Fort Government Girls Higher Secondary School here will soon get 41 new classrooms and various other facilities.

A sum of Rs. 2.42 crore has been allotted for the construction of the classrooms, 10 toilets and a compound wall to a length of 560 metres.

Besides, the government will create adequate drinking water supply provision for the school. Plans have been made to sink two bore wells and construct a sump and an overhead water tank on the school premises, Agriculture Minister Veerapandi S. Arumugam said here on Monday.

No proper drainage facilities in many residential colonies

‘Bring in an effective mechanism to carry out sanitary works’

SALEM: Overflowing sewage on roads and streets remains a perennial problem in Salem city, posing health hazard to thousands of people.

A number of residential colonies in the city, which has a population of over nine lakh, do not have proper drainage channels and storm water drains.

Sewage from the households and commercial establishments are let into the streets and roads in these colonies.

The colonies, which have a proper drainage system, are not ensured regular cleaning.

This has resulted in blocks in the channels, which leads to overflow of sewage.

“Several drains in the city continue to overflow as the Salem Corporation has grossly failed to ensure regular cleaning,” people charge.

It is very common to see sewage getting stagnated on the streets and vacant lands.
Mosquito menace

The prolonged stagnation of sewage on the streets in colonies like Chinnapachakadu in Ward 59 has led to the increase of mosquito menace to alarming levels.

The dirty water ponds have become favourite breeding grounds for mosquitoes which spread diseases.

“Young children often play near the stagnated sewage. Many children in our ward have fallen sick with respiratory disorders and are constantly under medication,” a senior citizen in Ward 59 says.

“The civic officials and elected representatives have not bothered to take any serious steps to improve the sanitary condition.

“The Corporation’s Under Ground Drainage (UGD) Project, which would help solve a number of issues related to sanitation, has commenced after a prolonged delay,” residents point out.

The project, which was originally conceived a decade ago, underwent many revisions and the Chief Minister laid the foundation for its implementation a year ago.

But the civic body has commenced the survey work a few weeks ago.

The Corporation had also failed ensure fruitful results after it privatized the sanitary works in 21 wards.

“The Bangalore-based Swatchatha Corporation, which bagged the contract for carrying out sanitary works in 21 wards, could not ensure proper cleaning of drains and removal of garbage,” people complain.

People urged the Corporation to bring in an effective mechanism in order to carry out sanitary works in the city and speed up the implementation of the underground drainage project.

Cashing in on the popularity of 3G mobile connections, Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited will roll out FTTH (fibre to the home) facility that offers a higher bandwidth for data transfer, said its Chairman and Managing Director Kuldeep Goyal. He was speaking on the sidelines of a felicitation function organised for the 10,000th customer of 3G mobile services here on Monday.

In the first phase, a total of 100 cities in the country would be equipped with FTTH and the rest would be covered in phases. BSNL’s recently launched Wi-MAX, an area-wide mobile internet facility, would cover 1,000 block headquarters across the country in the first phase by the end of 2010. In an attempt to tackle stiff competition from private service providers, BSNL is strengthening its marketing and service department by designating 10,000 staff for this purpose, he said.

On the growing demand for 3G services, Mr. Goyal said BSNL had set a target of 10 lakh customers by the end of this fiscal year. It would cover a total of 740 cities including Coimbatore, Madurai, Tiruchi and Salem in the state. “We are also looking at offering better connectivity in every city to ensure customer satisfaction. As our 3G infrastructure can accomodate 50 lakh more connections, we are focussing on the marketing part,” he said.

Hotels in Yercaud gear up for New Year celebrations

YERCAUD: The hotels in Yercaud are gearing up for New Year celebrations.

With tourists from Karnataka, Kerala and Tamil Nadu pouring in, the hotels in the hill station have started giving final touches to the New Year Eve’s preparations. Many of the hotels, which boast of more than 500 rooms, are overflowing.
Tourist inflow

“The season is very good this year. Besides, the flow also has increased than last year since the IT Industry has started showing a bounce back with recession also withdrawing,” a hotelier said.

Packages

The industry has two 3-star hotels, many resorts, private estate houses and many budget class hotels. Shevaroys Hotel, Grand Palace and other hotels offer interesting packages for New Year’s Eve.

B. G. Gopi Viswanath, Resort Manager, Lake Forest Resorts, affiliated to Club Mahendra group told ‘The Hindu’ that all cottages had been booked since the day after Christmas.

“Many of us are hosting fashion shows, late night dinners, dances with music and games for children with exciting prizes,” he pointed out.
Heritage hotels

Visu Kaliappa, another resort owner said that the tourists preferred to stay in hotels with rich heritage.

“Many British built mansions had been converted into resorts offering the guests a sense of heritage touch. We give Italian and French cuisines too for which special cooks also have been brought,” he added.

With the mercury dipping below 15 degree Celsius, the hill station is now brimming with New Year Eve activities.

The building to house 46 government departments under one roof
SALEM: Agriculture Minister Veerapandi S. Arumugam has said that the ongoing construction works of the new integrated collectorate complex would be over as scheduled – September 14, 2010.

After inspecting the works here on Wednesday, the minister said that the progress of the building was good.

The Rs. 27.50-crore four-floor project for which Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi laid foundation stone on Sept 14, 2007, would house 46 government departments under one roof.

At present roofing works for second and third floors were progressing while brick works on ground and first floors had been taken up.

Till today a sum of Rs. 11.5 crore had already been spent on the project, which had 2.54 lakh square feet with 6 lifts.

Special architectural design for its front elevation also had been incorporated into the building.

A conference hall with 4775 square feet and a capacity of 600 persons was being built.

Collector J. Chandrakumar, District Revenue Officer M. Rajarathinam, PWD Superintending Engineer S. Sampath, executive engineers and other officials accompanied the minister. Later the minister also inspected new works in Government Medical College Hospital and Fort Boys Higher Secondary School.

Nod for Salem water scheme

CHENNAI: Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi has given approval for the Rs. 283.09-crore drinking water supply scheme for the Salem Corporation.

In a statement here on Thursday, Agriculture Minister Veerapandi S. Arumugham said the government gave an administrative approval in September 2007 for the Rs. 168-crore drinking water supply scheme for Salem town. Based on recommendations from the World Bank, some changes were made in the scheme and the new scheme was approved by the Chief Minister. The scheme had taken into account per capital consumption of drinking water in 2039-40. — Special Correspondent

சேலம், டிச.31: சேலம் மாநகரின் நெரிசல் மிகுந்த பகுதிகளில் தனியார் பங்களிப்புடன் உயர்நிலை நடைப்பாலம் அமைக்கப்படுகிறது.

சேலம் மாநகரம் நாளுக்குநாள் வளர்ச்சியடைந்து வருகிறது. இதன் காரணமாக வாகனங்களின் எண்ணிக்கையும் அதிகரித்துள்ளது. பெருகிவிட்ட வாகனப் போக்குவரத்தால் நகரின் முக்கிய இடங்களில் தினசரி போக்குவரத்து நெரிசல் ஏற்படுகிறது.

இப்பகுதிகளில் செல்லும் பாதசாரிகள் சாலையைக் கடப்பதற்குள் பெரும் சிரமத்துக்குள்ளாகின்றனர். இதனால் நெரிசல் மிகுந்த முக்கியப் பகுதி சிக்னல்களில் பாதசாரிகள் சாலையைக் கடப்பதற்கு உயர்நிலை நடைப்பாலம் அமைக்க வேண்டும் என்று பொதுமக்கள் தொடர்ந்து கோரிக்கை விடுத்து வந்தனர்.

இந்நிலையில் சென்னையைச் சேர்ந்த தனியார் விளம்பர நிறுவனம் சேலம் மாநகரில் இரண்டு இடங்களில் தலா ரூ.25 லட்சம் செலவில் உயர்நிலை நடைப்பாலம் அமைத்து தர முன்வந்துள்ளது. இரும்பு மூலம் அமைக்கப்படும் இப் பாலத்தை கட்டிக் கொடுக்கும் அந்த நிறுவனமே அதை 20 ஆண்டுகள் பராமரிப்பு செய்து கொள்ள முன்வந்துள்ளது.

அதற்காக பாலத்தில் விளம்பரம் செய்து கொள்ளும் உரிமத்தை தங்களுக்கு வழங்க வேண்டும் என்று அந்த நிறுவனம் கோரியுள்ளது.

அதன்படி, சேலம் புதிய பஸ் நிலையம் மற்றும் 5 ரோடு சந்திப்பில் பாலம் அமைத்துத் தருவதாக அவர்கள் கூறியுள்ளனர். ஆனால் சேலம் மாநகராட்சி நிர்வாகம் புதிய பஸ் நிலையத்திலும், 5 ரோடுக்குப் பதிலாக சாரதா கல்லூரிச் சாலையிலும் இந்த பாலத்தை அமைக்கலாம் என்று ஆலோசித்து வருகிறது. மாநகராட்சி அனுமதி கிடைத்த பிறகு நடைப்பாலப் பணிகளைத் தொடங்க தனியார் நிறுவனத்துக்கு சில நிபந்தனைகள் பேரில் அனுமதி வழங்கப்படும் என்று தெரிகிறது.

^^ Very nice initiative. Sarada College Road badly needs FOB's at various places as it does not have the median and crossing the road is really tough (especially for children and old) during peak office hours, and in the evenings as the road houses several shopping complexes. I think the Corporation plans one right in front of the Sarada College around Kandaswarna Shopping Mall and Kandaswarna Mega Mall.

NEW DELHI: SAIL has revived its plan to develop a special economic zone (SEZ) at Salem in Tamil Nadu by starting afresh with a steadfast partner, as
India’s largest steelmaker tries to match a voracious steel demand in domestic and foreign markets.

The state-run company has invited fresh expressions of interest (EoIs) for the joint venture project that was stalled in the first half of 2009 after the exit of IL&FS Infrastructure Development Corporation. IIDC, the advisory and project development offshoot of infrastructure major IL&FS Group, had cited the then crisis-racked economic scene for its decision to walk out of the MoU.

“The process should be over in a couple of months,” SAIL chairman SK Roongta told ET.

SAIL hopes to land a more sedate partner this time as the economy has vastly improved since IIDC’s departure, with sectors such as construction, automobiles and capital goods propping up demand. Indian steel consumption is estimated to rise over 12% compared to a global demand hike of 9.2% in 2010.

Analysts presage India emerging as the world’s second-largest producer and consumer of steel in the next decade. The state-run steel company is bracing for that run with a Rs 60,000-crore expansion plan focussed on nearly doubling capacity.

“SEZs were not the flavour last year due to sluggish market conditions. But things are changing now,” said a steel ministry official, adding that a bull run in the sector in 2010 looks imminent.

At the time of IIDC’s exit, a SAIL official had said the company would implement the project afresh once the economy improves.

The Salem SEZ was to come up on 250 acres of surplus land near SAIL’s existing stainless steel facility. The MoU with IIDC in September 2007 envisaged the formation of a special purpose vehicle (SPV) to develop, operate and maintain the SEZ.

The project will continue to be developed as a 50:50 SPV floated by SAIL. The SEZ proposes to develop manufacturing facilities, architectural facades, railway applications, dairy plants, chemical and pharmaceutical plants, machines for the food processing industry, tubes and pipes, auto component and panels for lifts.

Wearing of helmets made compulsory in Salem

SALEM: The Salem City Police has begun the implementation of the helmet rule in the city on Friday.

The rule making the wearing of helmets compulsory for two-wheeler riders was imposed to enhance traffic safety on city roads.

While a majority of the motorcyclists in the city were found wearing helmets, a few riders did not comply with the directive.

Traffic personnel warned the riders and asked them to start wearing the helmets from January 2.

Meanwhile, employees of T. V. Sundaram Iyengar and Sons Limited took out a rally to create awareness among people on the importance of wearing helmet.

Over 70 persons participated in the rally, which was flagged off by Assistant General Manager (Sales and Service) S. Murugadass, on Omalur Road.
Slogans

Participants raised slogans urging the motorcyclists to wear helmets.

The rally passed through important thoroughfares in the city including Omalur Road, Five Roads, Sarada College Road, Ramakrishna Road and Four Roads.

Meanwhile, the Helmet Club had decided to conduct programmes to create awareness among two-wheeler riders. Handbills carrying information on the benefits of wearing helmets would be distributed to the riders.

A resolution to this effect was passed at a meeting held here recently. Club members wanted the district administration to publish a detailed announcement on those who were exempted from wearing helmets.

The club also urged the traders to sell only ISI certified helmets to the consumers.

Club Vice-President J.S. Padman presided over the meeting.

சேலம், டிச.30: சேலம் புதிய ஆட்சியர் அலுவலக கட்டடப் பணிகளுக்கு மேலும் ரூ.11.50 கோடி நிதி தேவைப்படுவதாகவும், கட்டடப் பணிகள் 2010 ஆகஸ்ட் மாதத்தில் நிறைவடையும் என்றும் வேளாண்மைத் துறை அமைச்சர் வீரபாண்டி ஆறுமுகம் தெரிவித்தார்.

ஆட்சியர் அலுவலக கட்டுமானப் பணிகளை புதன்கிழமை ஆய்வு செய்த (படம்) அவர் பின்னர் செய்தியாளர்களிடம் கூறியது:

சேலத்தில் புதிய ஆட்சியர் அலுவலகம் கட்டுவதற்கு கடந்த 2007 செப்டம்பரில் முதல்வர் கருணாநிதி அடிக்கல் நாட்டினார். இப் பணிகளுக்கு ரூ.25 கோடி முதல் கட்டமாக ஒதுக்கீடு செய்யப்பட்டது. பொதுப் பணித்துறையின் மூலம் இக் கட்டடத்துக்கு விரிவான மதிப்பீடு தயாரிக்கப்பட்டு ரூ.27.50 கோடிக்கு தொழில் நுட்ப அங்கீகாரம் வழங்கப்பட்டது. பணியின் ஒப்பந்த காலம் 17 மாதங்கள் என நிர்ணயிக்கப்பட்டு ஈரோட்டைச் சேர்ந்த ஒப்பந்ததாரரால் கட்டடம் கட்டப்பட்டு வருகிறது.

2.54 லட்சம் சதுர அடி பரப்பளவில் தரைத்தளம் மற்றும் 4 மாடிகள் கொண்டதாகவும், ஆட்சியர் அலுவலகத்துடன் 46 பிற துறை அலுவலகங்களும் இயங்குவதற்கு ஏற்றபடி அமைக்கப்படுகிறது. தமிழகத்திலேயே சேலத்தில்தான் இவ்வளவு துறை அலுவலகங்களும் ஒரே கட்டடத்தில் அமைக்கப்பட உள்ளன. இந்த கட்டடத்துக்கு 6 லிப்ட் வசதிகளும், 600 பேர் அமரக்கூடிய வகையில் 4,775 சதுர அடியில் இரண்டாவது தளத்தில் கூட்ட அரங்கம் அமைக்கப்பட உள்ளது. அதே போல் 1,400 சதுர அடியில் நான்கு சிறிய கூட்ட அரங்கங்களும் அமைக்கப்படுகின்றன.

இதுவரை ரூ.11.50 கோடி செலவிடப்பட்டுள்ளது. இந்நிலையில் இந்த பணிக்கு கூடுதலாக ரூ.11.50 கோடி தேவைப்படும் என்று பொதுப்பணித்துறையினர் மறு மதிப்பீடு செய்துள்ளனர். இதற்கான கருத்துருவும் அரசுக்கு அனுப்பப்பட்டுள்ளது. இக் கட்டடத்தின் அனைத்துப் பணிகளும் 2010 ஆகஸ்ட் இறுதிக்குள் முடிக்கப்பட்டுவிடும் என்றார்.

இதையடுத்து அரசு மருத்துவக் கல்லூரி மருத்துவமனையில் ரூ.14.66 கோடி செலவில் நடைபெற்று வரும் கூடுதல் கட்டடப் பணிகளை அமைச்சர் பார்வையிட்டார்.

Polimer channel aired a special programme on the topic yesterday , where Hon Min for agriculture, Mayor, Commissioner of police, and oter officials participated. Leading citizens participated and there were discussions on the immidiate and long term needs of the city. The programme was for one and half hours , recorded specially for the new year. At the end minister summorised his priorities for Salem 2010 as below..

1. New ring road from arabic college thro chinna tirupathy to ayothyapatnam.
2. Flyovers at 5 places of which one at five roads junction and other ROB on all the crossings from shevapet thro the railline.
3. shifting of lorry shed to a new place identified near sago serve.
4. simultaneous implementation of underground drainage lines, dedicated watersupply lines and other electrical/telecommunicationcables in the city and relaying of the city roads..
5. Identifying land and alloting the same for establishment of textile park.
6. establishment of mini parks in residential area with walkways..

^^ Nice to hear this. All the ones participated in the meeting should make sure that all those wishlists are fullfilled this year. When such initiatives are sent to state/central government for approval - they are always put in cold storage. These ministers and officials should proactively follow-up and explain the very need of these projects and get them approved. They should not just stop with sending the proposals to the government.

Concrete steps and much needed ones. The points are much fined now, with Railway divisional office in the city, all the 4 flyovers (guess Shevapet, Mulvadi gate (2) and Bala bharathi school) should get approval fast. Even if they could get the approval in first half of 2010 and start building in 2010 end, flyover should get opened in 2012 new year.

Ringroad should be tied up with NHAI there by Salem will get complete ring bye-pass. Now this 1/4th is missing.

Good move to de-congest Shevapet lorry market. With JUUNRUM funds they could build a truck terminal. But railway should also join with them so that we will get integrated trunk and railway freight terminal.

Textile park! But looks TM has not visited Salem even one time after taking in charge. :ohno:

^^ Arul, I think NHAI will not get itself involved on the ring road, if the stretch is not part of any National Highway. Either the state highways department or the Salem Municiapl Corporation will have to initiate this process and own the road. This could very well be done using JNNURM funds as the corporation cannot spend such a huge amount from its project.

^^ Their calculation seems to be heavily using the previous trend of growth % (from 1991 to 2001) to arrive at a project for the current year. Madurai, Erode have had a negative growth from 1991 to 2001 - which is reflected again in their projection for 2010.

Erode's actual number will be much more in 2011 census because it has become a municipal corporation with several area added to its limit.

I dont know what would be the reason for the decrementing population forecast for madurai alone?????

If this is the case,trichy would beat mdu in few years or might be next yr itself. Eagerly waiting for the official census.

As we discussed lot of time, Madurai's Corporation limit is too small when compared to Coimbatore or Salem or Trichy.

2001 census released showed the negative growth for Madurai, but census was made again and it was +ve growth. Madurai's corporation limit has to made bigger. Surely Trichy and Salem cannot beat Madurai's population. If Madurai's corporation limit was around 100Sqkm surely it will regain its 2nd biggest city of TN and Coimbatore will go to 3rd place.

But when comes to Metro population Coimbatore will be 2nd and Madurai will go to 3rd.

The calculation/projection will be correct only for Chennai and Coimbatore.

Madurai, Trichy, Salem, Tirunelveli, Erode, Vellore, Tiruppur, Thootukudi is not correct.

Reason: Madurai was shown -ve growth from 91 to 00, that is wrong. So the entire calculation is wrong for 2010.

Tirunelveli, Salem, Trichy corporation limits were expanded in 1993-94, so 2001 it reflected higher growth rate when they consider it from 1991. So same no. cannot correct for 2010 calculation

Erode, Vellore, Tiruppur, Thootukudi reflects the muncipality's population and not the present corporation limits population.

Not long time! It will cut the Yercaud traffic and vehicles will take new ring road instead of taking congested Sarada college road and Hasthampati circle.

Hi to all,

This is muthukumar, i am new to this forum, i feel so happy to share my thoughts.

The new proposed ring road is very must and useful. and the interior places like alagapuram pudhur,nagaramalai adivaram,yercaud foot hills, kanankurichi and veeranam will develope better than this.And this road will make easy to reach there from omalur and ayyothiapattinam.

Likewise, Thinnapatty to karuppur road should be laid, if so, half-an hour journey will be less from thinnapatty to salem travellers.

And it helps in developments of mines areas as well as Yercaud foor hills. Chinathirupathi, Kanankurichi has become dense residential area, I doubt whether corporation or SH can place an alignment there now!

If it is realised, one more round good developments could be seen in Salem. Similarly on the Seelanaickanpatty to NH68 link road also we can see more developments, if the roads are widened (4 laned).

SALEM: The Tamil Nadu government is keen on setting up business process outsourcing (BPO) units in rural areas, Information Technology Minister Poongothai Aladi Aruna has said.

The government was already successful in setting up a rural BPO in Krishnagiri district, which had generated employment opportunities for the rural youth. The Chief Minister was keen on setting up similar BPOs in the rural areas of Tamil Nadu. A policy was being worked out in this regard, she told media persons after inspecting the construction works in Salem Information Technology park on Monday.

Agriculture Minister Veerapandi S. Arumugam, Collector J. Chandrakumar and senior officials accompanied the Minister.

She said that the construction works in the park were taken up on 53 acres initially. Roads, power supply, water supply and other basic amenities would be created at a cost of Rs. 10 crore. The construction of a building for the Electronics Corporation of Tamil Nadu on a 50,000 sq. ft. land would begin in April. Four companies had expressed interest for setting up their units in the park so far, she said. Tamil Nadu was ranked second, after Karnataka, in software exports, she added. Mayor J. Rekha Priyadarshini was also present.

SALEM: Information Technology Minister Poongothai Aladi Aruna has urged IT students to have a positive attitude in terms of job placements as the industry shows signs of growth.

She was addressing students after inaugurating a research centre for Photonics and Nanotechnology and Centre for Research and Development of Free and Open Source Software at Sona College of Technology here on Monday. India and the entire international community had tied over the recession and campus recruitment was operational in full swing all over the State, she told the students.

The National Association of Software and Services Companies projected that the worldwide spending in the business process outsourcing (BPO) area would increase by 12 per cent. Direct employment in the IT sector was expected to reach 2.23 million, an addition of 2,26,000. India would have a major share in this job pie as it was in an advantageous position due to the easy availability of cost effective and quality talent, young demographic profile and the country churned out more than 3.5 million graduates and postgraduates every year, she pointed out.

Ms. Poongothai, however, said that the students should become job providers instead of job seekers. Entrepreneurship was the key to sustainable development.

Agriculture Minister Veerapandi S. Arumugam said that nanotechnology offered tremendous job opportunities. Huge investments were being made to carry out research in nanotechnology across the world. The Government of India and the Tamil Nadu Government also allotted funds for research in this field.

Nanotechnology applications were used in a number of fields like medicine and biotechnology, he said and urged the students to come forward to take up research in this field.

Over 300 students who were placed in various companies were honoured during the programme. Regional Director of NASSCOM Purushothaman also spoke.

College Chairman C. Valliappa, Secretary A. Dhirajlal and Principal P. Govindarajan were present in the function.

Not long time! It will cut the Yercaud traffic and vehicles will take new ring road instead of taking congested Sarada college road and Hasthampati circle.

And it helps in developments of mines areas as well as Yercaud foor hills. Chinathirupathi, Kanankurichi has become dense residential area, I doubt whether corporation or SH can place an alignment there now!

In addition to that, It seems like there is a NEW BYEPASS proposed from Uthamasolapuram (Coimbatore road) to Nadikal patty (Trichy Road). Anybody is aware of this. I heard from somebody that land acquisition is in progress. But not sure... Anybody knows about that?

these routeds will provide good revenue. for moufsel buses, 2*2 seater, superdeluxe buses can introduce. lot of south dist connectivity can estabilish.
i dont know why our (ATC)tnstc-salem depot act as idle.

Salem Corporation laying link road to new bus stand

SALEM: The Salem Corporation is building a new link road connecting the Omalur Main Road and the New Integrated Bus Stand in order to ease traffic congestion near the bus stand.

The road will allow the buses coming from Four Roads to enter the bus stand without going through the main entry point. Currently, all the buses coming from Four Roads and Five Roads use the main entry point. This causes congestion near the bus stand.

Vehicle users find it very difficult to travel on the busy Omalur Main Road.

If the link road is constructed, the buses coming from the Four Roads area will not have to go through the main entry point.

This will reduce the traffic congestion near the bus significantly, civic officials pointed out.

The civic administration allotted a sum of Rs. 50 lakh for the formation of the link road. It had started the earth works a few days ago. Officials said that the works would be completed by the end of March this year.

Instructions were given to the contractor to speed up the work, they added.

The civic body also approached the State Highways department for the construction of a traffic island near the main entry point of the bus stand. It would improve traffic safety, officials said.

Vijayan after reading this post, I found in google earth that it is highly possible to make another new road from central bus terminus entry road - new alignment road junction to Meyyanoor bye-pass road.

Some lands may be owned by the private! Anyway this could be a good proposal for connecting the new alignment road with Meyanoor bye-pass without touching congested CBS which will be useful for traffic heading to ARRS Multiplex and other up coming shopping complex in that road.

Aspasia Group has launched the first organic restaurant “Modak’ in Bangalore.

According to Satish, chairman of the Aspasia group, this restaurant’s focus is to make organic food affordable at affordable costs. The restaurant offers two types of vegetarian spread at Rs 50 and Rs 80 respectively.

The Modak food sans chemicals and vegetables are sourced through the Unity Foundation which are promoters of organic farming.

Much of the products are sourced from Era Organics, vegetables from Hosur, rice from Sirsi, finished products like pickles, papads from Thirthalli, Dhal from north India, rock salt, salt from Adi Naturals in Bangalore.

Once the restaurant consolidates operations in Bangalore, it will extend to Tier II and III cities of Nagpur, Nanded, Aurangabad, Hubli, Salem, Coimbatore by 2010. Options of franchisee mode are also under consideration. However, the Group is confident of attracting customers from Bangalore and therefore efforts are on to open another 20 outlets here, he said.

^^ There is a direct line from Salem to Karur via Namakkal under construction for the past several years. By looking at the progress, it might take several more years for the line to be completed.

But once completed, it will cut short the distance between Bangalore/Salem and southern TN by about 50 kms. Trains can directly go to Karur instead of going via Erode.

I welcome modern facilities, but the farmers market are typical Indian standard and in another 10-15 years it is bound to change like existing central markets in down towns of all the cities of TN. First provide/maintain neat and tidy market, then bring these fancy amenities for the public.

The satellite picture seems to be older one. So constructing a new road as per your proposal is not feasible. Because by this time more buildings would come up in the empty land behind TNSTC Depot.

FYI, in the satellite image, the additional parking bay not seen in right hand side of the CBS and newly constructed Water Tank in left hand side of the CBS is also missing. So it looks the picture is too old.

That is good, corporation is installing the median lamps all along the bye-pass. Hope they along with TN gvt do it for Steel Plant road till Tharamangalam and Sitharkovil road till Illampillai, NH 68 till Ayodhyapattinam.

Lamps are installed all the way upto Panamarathupatti Junction on NH7. The stretch is completely access controlled between Seelanaickenpatti and Panamarathupatti. One gets the feeling of driving inside the city throughout the stretch as its completely developed.

Few years back, we will get an urban feel only when Seelanaickenpatti is reached. That clearly shows how fast the city is developing.

That is surprising. But minster interested mean, it is being done by state highways? NHAI should built that with 4-lane so that Kerala, Coimbatore, Tiruppur, Erode traffic to Chennai, Cuddalore, Pondycherry goes completely through this when NH68, 4-lane completes.

SALEM: The Panamarathupatti Lake, a picturesque water spread located near the city, will complete 100 years this year.

The lake, which has a massive water spread area of 2,139 acres, was built during the British period. The government in 1908 approved the scheme primarily to make it as a source of water supply. It was an engineering marvel in those days.

The municipal administration had manually dug the massive lake at Panamarathupatti and brought water to it from near-by Varattaru river. Intake tower and filter beds were established. The project was completed in 1911 at a cost of Rs. 9.68 lakh.

Residents in Salem town received protected water supply for the first to the tune of 10 gallons a day from the lake. It remained a major source of supply till Cauvery water from Mettur Dam reached Salem in 1952.

Then, the successive municipal administrations paid very little attention for the development and protection of the lake. This has led to massive encroachments on the lake bed.

At one point of time, about 50 per cent of the lake fell into the hands of encroachers. The lake was retrieved from the clutches of encroachers only in 2004.

After repeated representations, the district administration along with the Salem Corporation took up a massive exercise of clearing hundreds of encroachments from this sprawling water spread. The civic administration then initiated a development programme for the lake and strengthened its bunds.
Office

It also built an office to monitor the lake and prevent further encroachments. It came up with a comprehensive plan to make Panamarathupatti a hotspot for eco-tourism.

When the city reeled under severe water scarcity, the civic body chalked out a plan to revive the old water scheme of brining water from Panamarathupatti Lake.

It also started repairing the old pipeline from the lake. But this project was abandoned for reasons best known to the officials.

Along with this project, the eco-tourism plan was also abandoned, with the officials failing to make any serious steps to get funds and start the work.

People in the city and Panamarathupatti block repeatedly expressed their wish to protect the pristine surroundings of the lake and turn the water body into a hotspot for eco-tourism. “Our demands are yet to be heard. We hope that the elected representatives and officials would come forward to improve the lake surroundings, as the water spread is going to complete its 100 years of existence,” the people say.

The government should organise a celebration to mark the completion of 100 years of the lake’s existence. It would help the younger generation to learn the history of the lake and realise their responsibility to protect it, they add.

Hope before election, government sanction some funds for the lake restoration with its source and eco-tourism. It could definitely emerge as tourist destination next to Yercaud and Mettur in Salem.

இந்த கட்டுமானப் பணிகளை மாவட்ட ஆட்சியர் சந்திரகுமார் வியாழக்கிழமை பார்வையிட்டு ஆய்வு மேற்கொண்டார். ஆனந்தா இறக்கத்தில் கட்டப்படும் உயர்மட்ட பாலத்தை பார்வையிட்ட ஆட்சியர், இந்த பாலம் கட்டுமானப் பணிகள் அக்டோபர் மாதமே முடிவடைந்து இருக்க வேண்டும், ஏன் தாமதம் என்று கேட்டார். மேலும் இப்பணிகளுக்கு குறைவான ஆள்களை வைத்து வேலை செய்வது போல உள்ளது. ஆள்களை அதிகப்படுத்தி மார்ச்சுக்குள் அனைத்துப் பணிகளையும் முடிக்க வேண்டும் என உத்தரவிட்டார்.

மேலும் பழைய பஸ் நிலையம் அருகில் நடைபெற்று வரும் ஆள்கொல்லி பாலம், குண்டுபோடும் தெரு அருகில் ரூ.66 லட்சம் மதிப்பில் கட்டப்பட்டுவரும் கன்பாயிண்ட் பாலத்தின் கட்டுமானப் பணிகளையும் அவர் பார்வையிட்டார். இப்பாலப் பணிகளை விரைவாக முடிக்க வேண்டும் என உத்தரவிட்டார்.பாலம் கட்டுமானப் பணி ஒப்பந்த நிறுவனத்தின் திட்ட மேலாளர் இந்திரகுமார், ஆள்கொல்லி பாலம் மற்றும் கன்பாயிண்ட் பாலம் ஆகியவற்றின் பணிகளை பிப்ரவரி மாதத்தில் முடித்து விடுவோம் என்றார்.

ஏற்காடு, ஜன. 7: சேலம் மாவட்டம் ஏற்காட்டில் தாவரவியல் பூங்கா அமைப்பதற்காக அரசுக்கு சொந்தமான நிலத்தில் இருந்த ஆக்கிரமிப்புகள் வியாழக்கிழமை அகற்றப்பட்டன.

÷ஏற்காடு ஏரியின் அருகில் உள்ள முருகன் கோயில் பகுதியில் சுமார் 60 ஏக்கரில் ஊட்டியில் இருப்பது போல் தாவரவியல் பூங்கா அமைப்பது என்று தோட்டக்கலைத்துறை முடிவு செய்தது. இதற்கான 40 ஏக்கர் நிலம் தோட்டக்கலைத்துறை வசம் உள்ளது. அப்பகுதியில் உள்ள அரசுக்குச் சொந்தமான 20 ஏக்கர் புறம்போக்கு நிலத்தில் சுமார் 10 ஏக்கரை சிலர் ஆக்கிரமித்து பல ஆண்டுகளாக பயன்படுத்தி வருகின்றனர். அந்த நிலத்தில் இரண்டு வீடுகள் கட்டப்பட்டுள்ளதுடன், காபி தோட்டமும் அமைக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது.

÷இதையடுத்து இந்த ஆக்கிரமிப்புகளை அகற்ற வருவாய்த்துறை முடிவு செய்தது. ஆனால் இதை எதிர்த்து அங்கு வசித்து வந்தவர்கள் நீதிமன்றத்தில் வழக்குத் தொடர்ந்தனர். இந்நிலையில் கடந்த 10 நாள்களுக்கு முன்பு நீதிமன்றத்தின் இறுதி உத்தரவு அரசுக்கு சாதகமாக வந்தது.

÷இதையடுத்து ஆக்கிரமிப்பு அகற்றம் குறித்து வருவாய்த்துறையினர் சம்பந்தப்பட்டவர்களுக்கு நோட்டீஸ் அளித்தனர். ஆனால் இடத்தை யாரும் காலி செய்யாததால் புதன்கிழமை முதல் ஆக்கிரமிப்புகள் போலீஸôர் உதவியுடன் அகற்றப்பட்டு வருகின்றன.

÷வட்டாட்சியர் ரமேஷ், மண்டல துணை வட்டாட்சியர் லோகநாதன், கிராம நிர்வாக அலுவலர்கள் சிம்மரசன், பெரியசாமி, மாதேஸ்வரன், சேகர், வருவாய் ஆய்வாளர் பொன்னுசாமி ஆகியோர் முன்னிலையிóல் ஏற்காடு போலீஸ் இன்ஸ்பெக்டர் வெங்கடேசன் தலைமையில் போலீஸôர் பாதுகாப்பு அளிக்க, இரண்டு வீடுகளும் பொக்லைன் எந்திரம் மூலம் இடித்து தரைமட்டமாக்கப்பட்டன. இதனால் அந்தப் பகுதியில் பெரும் பரபரப்பு ஏற்பட்டது.

இது குறித்து ஏற்காடு கிராம நிர்வாக அலுவலர் சிம்மரசன் கூறியது: அரசுக்குச் சொந்தமான புறம்போக்கு நிலங்களிலேயே பட்டா வழங்கக் கூடியது, வழங்க முடியாதது என்று இரண்டு வகையான நிலங்கள் உள்ளன. ஆனால் ஏற்காடு முருகன் கோயில் அருகில் உள்ள நிலம் பட்டா வழங்க முடியாத நிலம். எனவே இவர்கள் பல ஆண்டுகளாக இங்கு வசித்து வந்தாலும் பட்டா வழங்கப்பட மாட்டாது. ஆக்கிரமிப்புகள் முழுமையாக அகற்றப்பட்ட உடன் இந்த நிலம் தோட்டக்கலைத்துறை வசம் ஒப்படைக்கப்படும் என்றார்.

Good to see this Botanical garden project is alive. Map like this almost shows Yercaud is a suburb of Salem. But Yercaud still comes under rural category even though now it has got almost most of the Urban facilities.

An article about Salem infrastructure and traffic issues..

சேலம்: சேலம் மாநகராட்சியின் பரப்பு, மக்கள் தொகை, வாகனங்கள் எண்ணிக்கை வேகமாக அதிகரிக்கும் நிலையில், அதன் போக்குவரத்து நெருக்கடி விபரீதமாக வளர்ச்சியடைந்து வருகிறது. சென்னை மாநகராட்சியை பின்பற்றி சேலத்தில் விரைவாக புதிய மேம்பாலம், சாலை விரிவாக்கம் போன்ற திட்டங்கள் செயல்படுத்த வேண்டிய கட்டாயம் எழுந்துள்ளது.சேலம் மாநகராட்சி 100 சதுர கி.மீ., பரப்பளவை கடந்து விரிவடைந்து கொண்டே செல்கிறது.

சேலத்தின் மக்கள் தொகை எட்டரை லட்சத்தை கடந்துள்ளது. வெளி மாவட்டங்களை சேர்ந்த மக்கள் வணிக நோக்கம், கல்வி, மருத்துவம் உள்ளிட்ட தேவைகளுக்காக தினமும் ஒரு லட்சத்துக்கும் மேற்பட்டவர்கள் தினமும் சேலம் வந்து செல்கின்றனர்.சேலம் மாநகர ரோடுகளில் இருசக்கர வாகனம், ஆட்டோ, கார், டெம்போ, பஸ், லாரி என நான்கு லட்சம் வாகனங்கள் ஓடுகின்றன. வாகனங்கள் எண்ணிக்கை ஆண்டுக்கு 16 ஆயிரம் என்ற ரீதியில் அதிகரித்து வருகிறது.

மாவட்ட தலைநகரம் என்ற சிறப்பும், வேளாண் விளை பொருட்கள் வர்த்தகம், ஜவுளி உற்பத்தி, வெள்ளிக்கொலுசு உற்பத்தி, சேகோ உற்பத்தி, எஃகு உற்பத்தி போன்ற தொழில்களின் வளர்ச்சி, ரயில்வே கோட்டம், விமான நிலையம் என மிகப்பெரும் நகருக்கான வசதி சேலத்தில் பெருகி வருகின்றன.விரைவில் தகவல் தொழில்நுட்ப நகரம் என்ற சிறப்பும் கிடைக்கவுள்ளது. சேலத்தில் இருந்து பிற மாநிலங்கள், மாவட்டங்களுக்கு செல்ல நான்கு வழிச்சாலை வசதி உள்ளது.

சேலத்தின் வளர்ச்சி காரணமாக, சேலம் மாநகர எல்லை, மக்கள் தொகை, வாகனங்கள் எண்ணிக்கை வேகமாக அதிகரித்து வருகிறது.ஆனால், சேலத்தின் தற்போதைய தேவைக்கு ஏற்ற அளவில் கூட, சாலை வசதி கிடையாது. நகரின் முக்கிய ரோடுகளில் ஒன்றிரண்டை தவிர, மற்றவை ஒற்றை ரோடாகவே (சாலை பிரிப்பு இல்லாமல்) இருக்கிறது.நகரினுள் ஐந்து ரோடு, நான்கு ரோடு, பழைய கலெக்டர் அலுவலகம், அஸ்தம்பட்டி ரவுண்டானா, கமிஷனர் அலுவலகம், திருவள்ளுவர் சிலை ரவுண்டானா போன்ற நெரிசல் மிக்க சாலை சந்திப்புகள் உள்ளன.

மேலும், சேலம் புது பஸ் ஸ்டாண்ட் அருகே ஓமலூர் ரோடு எந்தநேரமும் நெரிசல் மிக்கதாவே இருக்கிறது.நகரிலுள்ள பெரும்பாலான ரோடுகளில் சாலையின் குறுக்கே மக்கள் நடந்து செல்ல வசதி, சாலையோர நடைபாதை வசதி, சுரங்க நடைபாதை வசதி கிடையாது. மேலும், அகலமில்லாத சாலை, சாலை பிரிக்கப்படாததால் ஒழுங்கற்ற போக்குவரத்து, நகரின் மையத்தில் செல்லும் ரயில்பாதையை கடக்க மேம்பாலம் இல்லாதது என சேலம் போக்குவரத்து நெருக்கடி மிகுந்த தாகவே உள்ளது.

இந்த நெரிசலான நிலையில், சேலத்தின் மையத்தில் புதிய கலெக்டர் அலுவலகம், சூப்பர் ஸ்பெஷாலிட்டி மருத்துவமனை ஆகியவை அமைகிறது. சேலத்தின் மையத்தில் உள்ள பழைய பஸ் ஸ்டாண்ட் விரிவாக்கம் செய்யப்பட வேண்டிய கட்டாயத்தில் உள்ளது. இப்படியாக, சேலத்தின் பிரம்மாண்ட வளர்ச்சி ஒரு புறம் மிரட்டி வர, அதை விட அதிக வேகத்தில் சேலத்தின் போக்குவரத்து நெருக்கடி பல மடங்கு மிரட்டி வருகிறது.

போக்குவரத்து நெரிசல் கட்டுப்படுத்த முடியாத அளவுக்கு கைமீறி செல்லும் நிலையில், இப்போது திட்டத்தை துவக்கினால் கூட, அதை நிறைவேற்ற இரண்டு அல்லது மூன்று ஆண்டுகள் தேவைப்படும். ஆனால், நிலைமை விபரீதமாகி கொண்டிருக்கும் நிலையில், புதிய திட்டங்களை செயல்படுத்தாமல் மாநகராட்சி நிர்வாகம் அலட்சியமாக உள்ளது."எழில்மிகு சேலம்' என்ற திட்டமும் பேப்பர் அளவிலேயே உள்ளது.

சென்னை மாநகராட்சியில் மூலைக்கு மூலை புதிய மேம்பாலங்கள் கட்டப்படுகின்றன. அங்கு எதிர்கால போக்குவரத்து நெரிசலை கட்டுப்படுத்த இப்போதே திட்டங்கள் வகுக்கப்பட்டு செயல்படுத்தப்படுகின்றன. சேலத்தின் எதிர்கால நலன்கருதி, சென்னை மாநகராட்சியை பின்பற்றி சேலம் மாநகராட்சி துடிப்பாக செயல்பட வேண்டியது காலத்தின் கட்டாயம்; அவசியமும் கூட.

Salem has got a new landmark for tradefairs.. National consumer fare with amusement games opened in the newly developed Jawahar Mills Ground near the bye pass yesterday. Looks set for a new location for trade fairs, with eloborate street lights around the ground . This could be a location for future trade centre venue like CODISSA of CBE.

சேலம், ஜன.11: சேலம்-விருத்தாசலம் மார்க்கத்தில் திங்கள்கிழமை முதல் மங்களூர்-புதுச்சேரி வாராந்திர எக்ஸ்பிரஸ் ரயில் இயக்கப்படுகிறது. ஆனால் இந்த ரயில் அதிகாலை 2.45 மணிக்கு வருவதால் பயணிகளுக்கு குறிப்பிடத்தகுந்த அளவு பயன் இல்லை என்றும் இந்த நேரத்தை மாற்றி அமைக்க வேண்டும் என்றும் பொதுமக்கள் கருத்துத் தெரிவித்துள்ளனர்.

சேலம்-விருத்தாசலம் மார்க்கத்தில் சென்னை எழும்பூர் எக்ஸ்பிரஸ், விருத்தாசலம் பாசஞ்சர், யஷ்வந்த்பூர்-புதுச்சேர் ஏழைகள் ரதம் ஆகிய 3 ரயில்கள் இப்போது இயங்கி வருகின்றன.

இந்த ரயில் பாதையில் கூடுதல் ரயில்கள் இயக்கப்பட வேண்டும் என்று சேலம், ஆத்தூர், கள்ளக்குறிச்சி பகுதி பயணிகள், விவசாயிகள் கோரிக்கை விடுத்து வந்தனர். இதையடுத்து மங்களூரில் இருந்து சேலம் வழியாக புதுச்சேரிக்கு சூப்பர் பாஸ்ட் ரயில் இயக்க ரயில்வே நிர்வாகம் முடிவு செய்தது.

அதன்படி 6044 என்ற எண் கொண்ட ரயிலை, திங்கள்கிழமை மாலை மாஹியில் நடைபெற்ற விழாவில் ரயில்வே இணை அமைச்சர் அகமது தொடங்கி வைத்தார்.

இந்த ரயில் ஒவ்வொரு திங்களன்றும் மங்களூரில் இருந்து புதுவைக்கு புறப்படும். மறு மார்க்கத்தில் புதன்கிழமை தோறும் புதுவையில் இருந்து மங்களூருக்கு புறப்படும்.

திங்கள்கிழமை மாலை 4 மணிக்கு மங்களூரில் இருந்து புறப்படும் இந்த ரயில் மாஹி, வடகரை, கோழிக்கோடு, பாலக்காடு, திருப்பூர், ஈரோடு வழியாக அதிகாலை 2.45 மணிக்கு சேலம் வந்தடையும். பின்னர் சேலத்தில் இருந்து 2.55 மணிக்குப் புறப்பட்டு சேலம் டவுன், ஆத்தூர், சின்னசேலம், விருத்தாசலம், விழுப்புரம் வழியாக காலை 8 மணிக்கு புதுச்சேரி சென்றடையும்.

மறுமார்க்கத்தில் புதுச்சேரியில் புதன்கிழமை மாலை 4.35 மணிக்கு புறப்படும் இந்த ரயில் விழுப்புரம், விருத்தாசலம், சின்னசேலம், ஆத்தூர் வழியாக சேலத்துக்கு இரவு 9 மணியளவில் வந்து சேரும். பின்னர் இங்கிருந்து 9.10-க்கு புறப்பட்டு மறுநாள் காலை 9 மணிக்கு மங்களூர் சென்றடையும்.

இந்த ரயிலில் இரண்டாம் வகுப்பு தூங்கும் வசதி கொண்ட பெட்டிகள் 12-ம், மூன்றாம் வகுப்பு குளிர்சாதனப் பெட்டி ஒன்றும், மற்றும் ஒரு பெட்டியில் இரண்டாம் வகுப்பு மற்றும் முதல் வகுப்பு குளிர்சாதன அறைகளும், 4 பொதுப் பெட்டிகளும் இணைக்கப்பட்டிருக்கும்.

சேலம் - விருத்தாசலம் மார்க்கத்தில் இயக்கப்படும் 4-வது ரயில் என்பதால் சேலம் மற்றும் விருத்தாசலம் செல்லும் வழியில் உள்ள பல்வேறு பகுதிகளைச் சேர்ந்த பயணிகள் மகிழ்ச்சி அடைந்துள்ளனர்.

இருப்பினும் இந்த ரயில் சேலம் ரயில் நிலையத்துக்கு அதிகாலை 2.45 மணிக்கு வருகிறது. இதனால் அதிகளவில் பயணிகள் செல்ல முடியாது என்றும் எதிர்பார்த்த பயனை அளிக்காது என்றும் பயணிகள் கருத்துத் தெரிவிக்கின்றனர்.

எனவே இந்த ரயில் சேலம் ரயில் நிலையத்துக்கு சற்று முன்கூட்டியே வரும் வகையில் நேரம் மாற்றி அமைக்கப்பட வேண்டும் என்று பொதுமக்கள், பயணிகள் கோரிக்கை விடுத்துள்ளனர்.

^^ I seriously don't understand why there are still no concrete efforts made to construct ROB's across the major crossings within the city. Being a city of 8+ lakh population at present, we can not afford to have level crossings on arterial roads and busy streets. The line bisects the total city into two halves, with the lower half being commercial centre and the upper half hosting lots of educational institutions, offices and banks - the traffic across the railway track is much higher and definitely qualify for ROB's under any standards.
Dumb corporation and useless railway authorities never try to voice for ROB's. Ministers and the MLA's never fail to make a statement in every single press meet about ROB's but they just forget until the next press meet.

Also, the citizens of the city remain idle without voicing for any demands. We need to take from what the people of Thuvakudi region in Trichy did to get the service road all along the Trichy - Tanjore highway.

People should make strong protests for the ROB's. It is the people who suffer so we need to putforth the demands. Until that point we will never see anything done quickly.

I also thought, Salem By-pass being congested day by day. there is no proper service roads for local traffic. And highway users also lose their travel time when they reach our congested by-pass.

Atleast good to see the service roads for few meters after seelanaickenpatti.

^^ Loggy, Service roads are not problem. I just took that example to site that by consistent demands and protests we can definitely get things done.

With regards to Service Roads, I could see wide service roads are being laid upto Ariyaanooor on NH-47.

^^ Arul, since there is a mention about a by-pass road for Ulundurpet, we can rule out any guess of a different Kallakurichi - VIllupuram alignment. It must have been a print mistake, or the reporter is not having sufficient knowledge about the NH-68.

Actually there is a by pass signal shown in NH-45 stretch immediately 2-3 kms after Ulundurpet which goes to meet at a village near by Elavanasoor Kotai. I saw a very big Road Over Bridge under construction at this meeting point.

1. NH 68, 4 lane works are carried out in two phases, Seelanaickenpatti-Kattukottai and Kattukotai-Villupuram (should be Ulundeepettai), so any guess alignment change for NH 68 from Kallakurichi to Villupuram??

2. Seelanacikenpatti-Kattukotai 30% works completed. Other phase 70% works completed.

3. 2011 Jan is the target date for completion.

4. Toll plaza coming up at Veracholapuram, Mettupati, Nathamkarai

5. Valapadi, Thalaivasal and Chinasalem will have ROBs

6. Kooturoad (Cuddalore road) will have "Y" shaped flyover

7. 5 more road flyovers

8. Udayapatti, Valapadi, Attur, ChinnaSalem, Kallakurichi, Elavarasanur Kottai, Thyadurgam and Ulundepet will have bye-pass road.

Also there is a major bridge at Talaivasal on River Vashista is under advanced stage of construction.

Nathakkarai is about 5KM after Talaivasal. Meetupatti and Veeracholapuram where are they ?

As regards the Y-flyover at KootRoad ( actually it is called V-Kootroad ) the Underpass portion has been completed long back. The approach ramp from Talavasal side is on full swing. The other two legs on the chennai and cuddalore side, nothing has been done. ( Of course this some 2 month old status)

Any way this report also confirms the Seelnaickenpati to Udayapati bye-pass stretch will be 4-lane and new bye-pass for Udayapati also coming up.

Hope they build the flyovers considering the future doubling and electrification of Salem Junction-Vridhachalam line.

Seelanaickanpatty to Udayapatti portion getting 4-laned is really good move.

That means, people/vehicles bound for Coimbatore (Tiruchy too) from Chennai side can bypass the city and go straight.

^^ Yeah... Even at present vehicles take the Udayapatti - Seelanaickenpatti to bypass the city, but now its just a 2-lane road.

Stalin to inaugurate new buildings for DMC

DHARMAPURI: Deputy Chief Minister M.K. Stalin will inaugurate the new buildings and hostel (part-1) constructed at a cost of Rs. 55.14-crore at the Dharmapuri Medical College (DMC) on Tuesday (January 19) in Dharmapuri, a release issued by the Collector, P. Amutha, here on Wednesday.

He will also lay foundation for the additional buildings for the medical college to be constructed at a cost of Rs. 43.67 crore.

During his visit to the district, he would inspect the site for commissioning the treatment plant for the Hogenekkal Drinking Water Scheme and review the development schemes with the district-level officers.

In the evening, he would inaugurate the upgraded District Headquarters Hospital at Pennagaram and flag off 108 ambulance services.

Association urges SAIL to allocate 30 per cent of SEZ area for small units

SALEM: Salem District Small Scale and Tiny Industries Association has urged the Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) to allot 30 per cent of area in the Special Economy Zone being developed by the Salem Steel Plant (SSP) here for setting up micro and small scale industries.

A team of delegates from the association led by its President K. Mariappan met its Executive Director Pankaj Goutham on Tuesday and discussed the issues related to the development of small scale industries in the SEZ, which the SSP had been developing on its premises.

The delegation pointed out that nearly 1000 acres of land for the development of down stream industries had been allotted by the Steel Ministry of which 277 acres of land was under development in Phase I in for SEZ.

SAIL had also already called for tenders for expression of interest to promote it as a joint venture. Tamil Nadu government had made it mandatory that in all Industrial Estates, 30 per cent of lands should be provided for setting up micro and small scale industries. The delegation said that SAIL also should provide the same in its industrial area in the proposed SEZ primarily for the benefit of micro and small industrialists. The members urged the SSP Executive Director to organise an interactive meeting with the industrialists of Salem and neighbouring districts to enlighten them about the various stainless steel products, which had high demand not only in the domestic market but also in export markets.

“It is high time that the SSP management should join hands with local entrepreneurs to identify the down stream industries and your invitation shall certainly bring good results and also instil confidence in technocrats who are willing to utilise the opportunity to go for self-employment,” they told him.

Salem Steel Plant was the only major Public Sector Industry which is currently expanded at about Rs.2000 crores. They also urged the SSP to have frequent interaction with the media so that the government’s development projects could be made known to public.

SSP must undertake the skill development training to the unemployed youth and Self Help Groups so that rural-based industrial activities could be generated. “Our association and Salem Productivity Council are ready to support the SSP for implementing various training programmes,” they pointed out.
