View Full Version : ABU DHABI | Etihad Towers (5 towers) | 218m - 305m | 715ft - 1001ft | 56-79 fl | Com
malec August 28th, 2007, 01:31 AM DBI Design has further cemented its status as a leading international practice by winning a world-wide competition
DBI Design has designed a 5-tower project in the Middle East, valued at more than A$860 million (AED$2.5 billion). DBI Design was awarded the lead design consultant contract for architecture, interior design and landscape architecture on the project. The project, Etihad Towers, will be located on a prominent waterfront site close to the central Abu Dhabi business district, at the end of the Abu Dhabi Corniche.
Compromising five iconic towers ranging in height from 55 to 77 storeys, in excess of 300 metres high, with a total built up area of 500,000m², Etihad Towers will feature an array of amenities, including an international five-star hotel, a boutique shopping mall, premium office tower, a hypermarket and quality residential apartments. It is set to be one of the most prestigious projects in Abu Dhabi.
The Etihad Towers development will consist of three residential towers, and one hotel/serviced apartment tower, centred by an office tower incorporating more than 65,000m² of lettable area. Including a retail podium, the group will be united by a basement car park of four levels, with a capacity for more than 3,000 cars.
All hotel rooms, apartments and office floors will have stunning sea views, overlooking the Abu Dhabi coastline. Etihad Towers’ signature building, the five-star hotel, will accommodate 400 rooms and 200 services apartments, to be operated by Jumeirah, operators of the seven-star Buj al Arab in Dubai and many other prestigious hotels around the world. The high-quality residential apartments will total 870, designed in a variety of configurations to suit all buyers.
The Etihad Towers complex will also house Abu Dhabi’s largest state-of-the-art convention centra and ballroom, at over 2,500m². Complementing these will be a retail center incorporating outlets for major international designer and fashion labels; and eight restaurants. Etihad Towers is scheduled to be completed by early 2010.

Arabian awarded record contract
CONSTRUCTION UAE
10 Nov 2006
The local/Lebanese Arabian Construction Company (ACC) has signed the biggest building contract ever placed in Abu Dhabi. The estimated AED 2,000 million ($545 million) contract covers construction of the Etihad towers, a mixed-use development on a site opposite the Emirates Palace hotel.
The project will have a built-up area of about 500,000 square metres. It will comprise five towers ranging in height from 50-75 floors. Three will be residential, one will contain a hotel and serviced apartments and the final one offices. The 40-month contract also includes the construction of an extensive retail podium and four basements of parking, as well as external and marine works.
The architect is Australia’s DBI Design, the project manager is the US’ Hill International and the client is a local private investor (MEED 3:11:06).

The only reason for this is because the dubai threads get regular updates. If this has as many updates as those then this too would have 10 pages.

I know that a couple of the smaller Island on the West Side of Abu Dhabi island are declared nature reserves and probably won't be touched. I think that most of those are included.
I have also heard that one or two which are not nature reserves have a couple high-end residential plans... only plans though.

krkseg1ops May 21st, 2009, 02:04 AM ^^^ So you're saying Abu Dhabi is a Dubai wannabe? I heard that emirate has its own vision for their cities, not neccessarily similar to Dubai's. Can you elaborate since you are a local ctizen :)
saeed May 21st, 2009, 11:20 PM ^^ No such thing as Dubai wanna be, its all about investment opportunities that are appearing in many parts of the world. Abu Dhabi has its own identity which includes a strategy not to go very fast and take things easy a bit.
I would say Abu Dhabi is at least 10 times wealthier than Dubai because of the oil revenues( probably one of the richest citis in the world by far), therefore Dubai is constrating on other sources of income to flourish, such as business and tourism. I really think many of the big projects in Abu Dhabi is just kindda message to others that we can do it too if we want to, which really they can! but many in Abu Dhabi dont want their city to be like Dubai!
Other emirates parts such Sharjah and Ajman, They are very close to Dubai, so the investment craves expanded to reach them as well.
Our region is very vital but if you take it from area and population wise its really small. So the effect of the booming economy will show clearly in all parts of the Gulf region: Saudi qatar bahrain Kwuait and so on.
The only difference I would say is that Dubai took 20 steps ahead...thats all!

Etihad Towers remind me more of spireless Federations Towers... with a bit of an also spireless Almas Tower (the shape, not the cladding).
Btw. I get 69 stories above podium levels for Tower 2... so the core could be almost at top floor already, with a height of about 270-280m IMO. :cheers2:

Agree about the praise - Etihad Towers already look so powerful and prove best the boom of Abu Dhabi.
Hard to compare them with Cuatro Towers... those are four different designed buildings in a row, here it's five similar towers in a cluster.

No, the glass will go higher. From the renders you can see two "fins" at the top. One inner short version, and a taller one. The shorter fin is formed. But the larger one is still to come.

FWIW the term 'topped out' generally refers to the structure only, not specifically the highest point. Usually it's when the lift motor rooms have been completed, or the jump/slip form systems are being dismantled.

Your right, but on this forum we consider "Topped Out" to be when it has achieved its full height. This way there is less confusion about a buildings actual height. Labeling a building "T/O" when in fact there is still a spire, or papapet to be added, just adds confusion.

AltinD September 16th, 2010, 12:38 PM Progress should have been much faster, but that's Abu Dhabi afterall. Their project traditionally haven't gone up fast ... actually even those they build elsewhere in the U.A.E. aren't.
saeed September 16th, 2010, 03:09 PM Why the hurry?! who is gonna rent them?!!!
AltinD September 16th, 2010, 03:43 PM ^^ Ok now, but not even during the boom. The 40 or so stories Etisalat tower near Trade Center took 5 years, the 2 x 54 stories twins in SZR next to Rolex Tower after 6 years they have yet to open.
Project Director September 16th, 2010, 03:56 PM ^^
even with this level of activity, the place has this tranquil feel about it that makes you wonder what all the towers are really for.
Its like comparing Joburg to Pretoria, one has a big vibe ie JHB, Pretoria a svelt diplomatic city ambiance. Similar to Dubai when compared to AD.
saeed September 16th, 2010, 09:10 PM To be frankly honest, AD lease and rent market is still in better shape than the rest of the emirates, prices hasnt droped that much in the crisis in comparison. It might not be that bad if all these units enter the market at this time!
I think the strategy of AD in construction is more like pay with no borrowing, if money there continue working, otherwise wait! safer but way much slower!
boschb September 17th, 2010, 01:23 AM i thought the original projected completion for these towers was 2012? but i may be wrong
Project Director September 17th, 2010, 08:13 AM if these jumped onto the market, where are the companies and people situated now, one hole creates another.
saeed September 17th, 2010, 03:33 PM Or maybe it will make renting options better for all companies. If you are stuck with a small office in an old building, then you will have a good chance to expand and move to a better and bigger office. your old one will be occupied by a smaller or new company which will be more than happy to have your old space. Dont forget that market is always growing and the need for new lease area is always there.
Or maybe your right, a hole will be there again!

saeed November 4th, 2010, 09:21 PM Why you say that? it look very tall actually!! I think the view of all 5 building completed together gives the feeling of not high enough!
spectre000 November 4th, 2010, 10:13 PM Why you say that? it look very tall actually!! I think the view of all 5 building completed together gives the feeling of not high enough!
I didn't say they don't look tall. The difference between ~299m and 305m isn't going to be much different. What I was getting at, is the final design doesn't match the renders. The "fins" at the top do not reach as high as the original design. So the tallest tower may no longer be a "supertall" IMO.

I had my doubts, what with the top fins. But looks like another thousand footer for the UAE.
luci203 November 21st, 2010, 04:46 PM I didn't say they don't look tall. The difference between ~299m and 305m isn't going to be much different. What I was getting at, is the final design doesn't match the renders. The "fins" at the top do not reach as high as the original design. So the tallest tower may no longer be a "supertall" IMO.
It's true, that the final design doesn't match the renders, but the "shorter tower" look taller than 218m. So the tallest is still 305m, but the shortest could be 255m or so... :dunno:

C_freakz November 22nd, 2010, 05:15 PM The other 2 towers are the Nation Towers.
Between these ones and the Etihad Towers the Adnoc Corporate HQ (342m) will start to rise next year (works are now ongoing in basement).
boschb November 23rd, 2010, 04:54 AM palaces next to soaring supertalls, abu dhabi is the only place you'll find that :)
firoz bharmal November 23rd, 2010, 07:47 AM NOW I KNOW STILL DUBAI FAR MORE SUPERIOR THAN ABU DHABI ...CONSTRUCTION SPEED IS SO SLOW THAT DUBAI CAN BUILD SAME BUILING IN ONE YEAR ,AT LEAST I HAVE SEEN THIS BUILDING FOR 4-5 YEARS TO BUILD......
TXSkyWatcher November 23rd, 2010, 08:12 AM OK...just for fun I'll bite....what building this size was built in a year in Dubai?

firoz bharmal November 24th, 2010, 09:31 AM OK...just for fun I'll bite....what building this size was built in a year in Dubai?
1.Rose Ratana hotel
2.Index
3.Burj Dubai
4.Groseover House
5.Almas Tower
6.Emirates Hotel and Tower
etc.
All these Towers are for sure not took as much as Etidad Towers need....take an example 2005-starting of Burj Dubai and 2009 completion.166floors and 818 meter height just in 5 years but Etihad started with the same year but yet to complete.....
Abu Dhabi not ever near to Dubai interms of speed. All about management....
Eastern37 November 24th, 2010, 11:49 AM Just to be annoying, none of those towers were built in a year like you said?
