Those houses are NOT korean traditional houses. Just illegal shanty town on the hillside in which old poor people live.

They are suffering.

Also. these areas are designated as a redelopment area by Busan city goverment.
That is the very notorious picture that Seoul or Daegu people usually try to bash Busan in Korean web sites. :ohno:

These kind of neighbourhoods are fast disappearing, but they are not nearly as bad as they look and the do have character. I have friends who lived in slightly newer/nicer places near here (though the buildings have now been levelled and replaced by modern high rises) and they were OK.

considering the economic growth south korea had in the past with other asian states that opened up for economy a lot before mainland china like hong kong, taiwan and singapore, the growth of supertall structures is nothing to be ashamed off, especially that even the country that invented them slowly fades away in all those chinese supertall projects.

not to mention the quality of living in south korea which raised a lot faster in south korea than in china.

In my opinion, actually, korea is not booming.
Korea is just continuing on her own way.

Just like that Korea is always there but World has NOT been carefuly keen on eye on her.

This site has been designated as a financial district long time ago.
The construction area is just close to the bordering line between office area and old rundown houses which were designated as a redevelopment area.

Also, there is an elevated road between them, not right next to the houses.

Many korean don't have obsession of height.
Rather, some people in Busan get angry if they see a tall building.
Their response is like that " Why we have to build so tall?"

People are diffrent. Some people love skyscrapers while the others hate. That's way the world works. I love skyscrapers but I respect them too. :)

Those area have already a skyline. Actually, it is the main downtown of Busan.

I will explain about Busan for someone who don't know much.

Busan have 3 skylines at the moment.

1. Seomyeon and Munhyn Financial area
This is the place where BIFC builidings are going to build.
There are many buildings over 150m(The current tallest tower in this area at the moment is a 200m building). Therefore, If BIFC will be added, It would be a great downtown skyline.

2. Heaundae and Centum city area

This is the place where LCT buildings are going to build.
There are already lots of buildings over 150m(The current tallest tower in this area at the moment is a 302m building). Therefore, If LCT will be build, It would be a great beach skyline.

3. Busan Port(Jungang-dong area)
This is the place where Busan Lotte world Tower is going to build.
There is also Busan Tower and this area will be designated as a redevelopement area which mean lots of new buildings poping up to make a new port skyline.
BTW, NEW Busan towe is also proposed.

As far as I know,these are the reasons. I will compare with Seoul.

1. Busan has less regulations when building tall towers while Seoul has so many regulations and building height restrictions.
2. Busan is cheaper than Seoul. The land price of Seoul is much more expensive.
3. Busan has nice beaches or ocean views which many customers are dreaming of.
4. The price of real eastate in Seoul are going down which means Seoul is becoming a not so good investment place while the price of real estate in Busan is soaring.
5. MICE industry and tourism of Busan is booming.
6. Busan was suffering for a long time, therefore Busan is trying to be a great city and want to step out of the shadow of Seoul.
7. Busan has so many run-down places which demand new constructions.
and many more.... :)
