Most of Skopje commieblocks are fairly new and in great shape. They started building them in the early 50s, but the majority was built from the 70s onward. We are still building them, although not as much as in the past.

Here are 30 pics!

Enjoy:

If Greece really wants to help the Balkans, they should fund the demolition of these monstrosities that ruined the upper Balkan towns and cities.
Thanks for pics.

There are far more monstrosities in Greece if you talk about architekture

Hi Realek, thanks for the show! All these blockbuildings look a bit similar - in that thay are not simple and box-like but complicated. It makes a bit weary and pressured feelings in me because of that... Strange.

You should start with cleaning up pretty much all the ugliness that streches throughout Athens which has given it a typical middle-eastern look:cheers:

actually they do not look bad even quite attractive... these commieblocks useful and effective if they build in sub urban area but they ruin the city if they build them in the middle of city centre... Large and developed cities like Paris, London, Berlin all have these type of blocks and even it seems blocks are more tasteful in Balkans!

I'm sorry but what does this have to do with anything? Seriously....

Because he is Greek he is not allowed to make a comment on a type of architecture he doesn't like (Commieblocks)? Did he design Athens? Is he responsible for any faults the city may have? No. Therefore, it makes so sense to bring up Athens in a conversation about Skopje. Whether you agree with his opinion or not, he is entitled to it, and instead of making childish remarks about something that has nothing to do with the topic (Athens), if you disagree, make a real argument.

Thank you.

It's ok for someone to say that these cities have been "destroyed" by commies and that they look like monstrosities but it's not ok for someone to say that they should start by cleaning up in their own country first? Nice.
And giorgos, how can greece help these countries in ANY way possible? I know greece's economy is 5-10 times where the rest of the balkans is, but the demolition, replacement of homes for the people living in, and the re-building of these commie blocks isn't exactly cheap.

Anyway as for the pictures, i don't have a problem with commie blocks, at times they have a certain charm, however, at times they look very depressing and dull...idk what it is about them, it may be the similar building patterns. And is it just me or does it seem like every picture of commie blocks is taken out in the cold? Something about the pictures is VERY grey

Reminds me of apartments I've seen in Germany and Italy rather than true Eastern European commieblocks.

Actually I would say there are far more worst commies in the eastern countries of Europe like Poland, Bulgaria or Russia.

Why is this topic misplaced here?

Why isn't it in the Commieblock Fan Club?
